THE CANNON RULES!!!

October 29th, 2009
9:02 am

The RAIDERS from EP have Cherokee coming to “THE BONEYARD” this week and this will be the make or break week that “should” decide the final spot (#4) for region 5A playoffs.

Harrison plays Marietta in a game that I guess you could call a “toss-up” but the only hope EAST has for the final playoff spot lies in Harrison getting beat.

Harrison has Etowah next week and EAST travels to Woodstock so baring upsets in the final weeks games tomorrow night seems to be the 2 games that tell the outcome…Then the #4 winner gets the PRIZE of playing Grayson AT Grayson in the first round so want that be fun…!!!!!

In another BIG game the UNDEFEATED 8/0 Hornets of Hiram travel to Sprayberry 6/2 for a game that will decide the Sub- REGION champion of 7B AAAA!!!! For a Hiram team that only started playing in 2000 this is UNCHARTED WATERS!!!

Good Luck Hiram & GO RAIDERS!!!!!!!

You should add the Northwest-Dalton games to your “Games to watch” list. We’re projecting 15,000 people to be there, and it’s for the 7A-AAAA title. It’s going to be an awesome game. The Northwest/Dalton winner will play the Hiram/Sprayberry winner for the 7AAAA title.

Here we go Northside!! Tomorrow is the BIG night…

I also wanted to comment on a post from earlier in the week, being a smart *** and asking what channel is the game being televised??? Many NS-WR games have been televised in the past… and actually I was wondering WHY the Lowndes-Valdosta game was even televised??? Just because Valdosta won a heep of championships 20 years ago??? I mean really, come on… WINNERSVILLE???? LOL… I mean I do have to give props to Valdosta for being a great team of the past… but just remember Lowndes… the television station wasn’t there because of you.. but because of your red headed step sister… =) Have a great day!

If Tucker plays a solid game against SWD they have a shot at winning. I’ve been following this team for the past three years and know the strengths and weaknesses. The defense have gotten better since the beginning of the season. We lost the running ability of QB Chris Beck last year but have a better passing game with Norman Hayes. This game hangs mainly on the play of Tucker’s offensive line.

I’ll be doing the Hiram/Sprayberry clash for the Region 7B-4A sub region title. I’ll keep you in the loop as it should be an interesting and high flying football game.

Nice to see that someone out there noticed the play of Chris Beck for Tucker last season. He was overshadowed by all of the other “talent” on the field and received almost no publicity. But his ability to cooly run the offense without mistakes, make the correct reads/fakes/handoffs against defenses in money situations and break runs from the QB position were a huge key to the team’s success. He had a standout game vs Marist in the Dome and repeatedly gashed them for key 1st downs with his legs and his arm.

On top of that, he carried a 4.0 average. He is the prototype leader and student athlete.

West Point got a good one.

eagleforlife: I was the (to quote you) ” smart *** ” who asked where the game is being televised. Since you sidestepped and did not answer my question, the question still stands: Where will the game be televised? Maybe there are people out there who would like to watch it.

I also asked other questions that no one has answered yet: 1. How will the four teams share the MAC next year when Veterans High opens. 2. Are there any plans to build a new stadium? 3. Are the WR/Houston schools administered by one County Board of Education, or are there separate city and county systems?

Rather than rant on about red-headed stepsisters, can you please just answer my questions? There’s no diabolical plot at work here.

SWD vs Tucker

Both teams have outstanding speed but I believe SWD’s size and physical play will win out. Over 4 quarters their experienced seniors and lines should gain control of the game.

Tucker will have to play 4 quarters of mistake-free football and force some turnovers. And that opportunity may be there for them in the kicking game. SWD’s kicking game looked pretty bad on CSS last week. They will need to find that part of their game as they move into the playoffs. It becomes more important in terms of field position, because the teams you face get tougher every week.

Shiloh vs. Parkview Take Parkview

Parkview’s QB back and able to play this or next week? Parkview will be a dangerous team if their senior is at QB.

Brookwood will lose to South Gwinnett making their last game at home against Parkview a must win. Number 4 seed from 8 AAAAA will go into playoffs with losing record. Will it be Brookwood or Parkview in week 11?

Goober……..Very good questions…….. 1. How will the four teams share the MAC next year when Veterans High opens….(Ans ) Hoco ,Northside and Warner Robins will continue to share the Mac and rumor has it Veterans will share the Field with the Perry Panthers……. 2. Are there any plans to build a new stadium? (Ans) Hadn’t heard anything ,If there is a stadium built ,surely it will sit south of Highway 96 ,all in Warner Robins will agree…..3. Are the WR/Houston schools administered by one County Board of Education, or are there separate city and county systems? (Ans) One school system ,located in the county seat of Perry Ga, not only the Warner Robins schools also the Perry schools… the HCBOE , better known as the Gestopo, because if you should ever voice a complaint or gripe you’re quickly escorted from the premises and never heard from again…..

GOOF… sorry, I meant GOOBER- You always amuse me.. Thanks for making me smile!! =) I believe that you must be ENR’s alter ego!!

I am soo sorry that I didn’t answer your questions.. so here goes (1) I am not sure how the BOE intends to share the stadium, however I am sure that either HoCo or Veterans will get their own stadium before either NS or WR does.. because that is how it goes in Warner Robins.. (2) I am not aware of any plans to build a new stadium.. I haven’t heard anything about it.. but like I said.. I am almost certain that it would not benefit NS or WR in any shape form or fashion… =) (3) The game is not being televised that I am aware of.. {I am sure you already knew that… but just to make you feel better} it has been in the past however.. (4) We only have one BOE and it is in Perry.. Ok.. any more questions that I can help you with??? I will be happy to assist you.. and Thank you for giving me a good laugh almost daily.. hehe

To eagle and Reeze: Thanks for the info. Before I proceed, since I am on probation I must inform Hiz Honor the Blog Policeman that my following questions/comments do relate to football, as I hope he will be able to discern:

1. In all seriousness, will the game be available anywhere on TV or on the web? Many of us would like to watch it or record it.
2. Do y’all know yet how the new district boundaries will be drawn for the four high schools next year, and how they might affect the populations of WR, NS and HoCo? Does Watson Blvd. still divide NS and WR high schools?
3. Do you know what the expected population and Class (AA, AAA, etc.) will be for the new Veterans High, and where is it being built?
4. Both of you made comments that indirectly indicate some issues with the Board and the football teams / high schools / stadiums, etc. Care to elaborate? (provided Hiz Honor approves!)
5. It seems there are very few WR Demons posters on these blogs, especially compared to the enthusiastic Eagles posters (or in the case of ENR, RABID posters!). Where are the Demons?
6. What’s your prediction for the big game tomorrow night?

Good forture and health to both teams and may the officials call a good game.

84Viking- I look back at the records kept by both schools sites for this season and it looks like the Eagles defeated the Vikings. I think i’m safe when I say that team the Eagles THINK they beat was the one they did beat. When you see that 1 in the column to the right, think of us kindly. Its already been done, and odds are we wont play again this year. If we do, it will probably be different, thats the nature of football…its rarely the same. BTW, I REALLY enjoyed that game.

Hey Sportsfan31313, were you afraid to pick roswell big over walton ? No problem; I will pick it for you. Also, the upset special on Friday night will be Centenial over Lassitter 34-27. Buford wins BIG over the soft preppy westminister boys. and its a long shot for both lowndes and Northside to get to the finals and we havent even started playoffs. the likelyhood of that happening is very low. and most region 1AAAAA posters are assuming they will probably play again. both teams gotta win 4 tough rounds before that can happen

Goober- idk where the demon posters are.. I guess they aren’t as supportive of their team.. They have their tail between their legs. Also, the BOE just tends to favor the south side of town when money is the issue (that being Bonaire, Kathleen – hoco and vet. High districts) bc the money is centralized in that part of town and our kids suffer bc of it. Its ok though… We r used to it.

I am having a hard time understanding why AJC has any interest in the game NG vs. Duluth with so many great games out there. This game might not be a blow out, but it should not be in close, either.

Unfortunately, this year’s Norcross seems to be a shadow of their former glory so Peachtree Ridge should have an easy contest. Perhaps Norcross views this as a line in the sand on the way to the playoffs, but I just don’t think they have the tools to mount a challenge this year.

BullDawgBites, ummm, I do not think anyone should ever hope for an injury to one of these high school kids. Our society places undue emphasis on football. We place the athletes on pedestals and some people spend hours and hours analyzing performances, discussing possibilities and predicting results. But they are still just kids. I hope that every single one of them does their best and stays healthy, so they can live productive healthy adult lives long after fans have discarded them as yesterday’s news. You have no idea how many former football players will nurse permanent injuries that are both minor and major throughout the rest of their lives. To go further and actually wish an injury on one of these kids, is just sick. Sorry to be so harsh, but I really cannot support that sort of sentiment in any way and I think your comments reflect poorly on your team, on Suwanee, on Gwinnett, and on High School football fans in general.

The P’tree vs North game at the end of the season should be an epic battle, and I hope that both teams bring their “A” game.

You are right SouthGA, I think Parkview can win out if Senior QB plays last game. If not Brookwood takes home game next week and goes into playoffs as number 4 seed at 5-5, they will not beat South this week. And 5-5 to me is losing record. South will surprise a lot of teams in playoffs if their defense steps up.

I have been quite this week, and been reading all the posts you guys have put up. As for the WR/NSWR game…….the eagles will win and set up a prize fight next weekend at the MAC against the Packers (assuming Colquitt wins tonight against Houston)
I see some of you Eagle posters already staking your claim to the Region 1AAAAA title, this will likely not happen guys. The Eagles have a long winning streak at the MAC and like all great streaks they are broken, and I think it will broken next week. Giving Lowdnes the region title.
I do not normally get on here making bold claims about anything, but I do see this happening. Colquitt is as good as anybody in the state right now, including Lowdnes and Northside. I do not think at this point that the Viking would like to face the Packers again, as Colquitt gave them all they wanted but just turned the ball over too many times.

EAGLEFORLIFE – You DO need a new stadium. The MAC is a terrible place to watch a football game. The stands are too verticle, and too far away from the field of play. I can’t believe you still have tickets available of the day of the big game. Our games with Valdosta are always sold out by Tuesday or Wednesday of the game week.

And as follow up to when you told someone when he needed to get to the game to get tickets. You said by 6 o’clock. That’s when the ticket gate is unlocked and opened. Course people can stand in line before then.

I don’t see Ep losing tonight to Cherokee, but it may be closer then you would think.
I do think the Harrison game could be interesting. The Marietta RB will be the best player on the field, and anything could happen with these two mediocre teams.
If Marietta wins tonight, Etowah should be able to handle Harrison next week allowing EP and their Cannon to make the playoffs through the back door.

That’s not gonna happen…I look for EP to take care of business with Cherokee at “THE BONEYARD” tonight…might be something like a EP 17 / Cherokee 10 type thing but a win will be a win!!!

The ISSUE is the Marietta / Harrison game and while Marietta “SHOULD” handle Harrison anything can happen and for EP to have any reasonable shot at the #4 seed / 5A Harrison has to lose (or EP beat Woodstock next week & I don’t want to have the season come down to that…not THIS year!)

I can’t wait to get on here next Saturday night… but I am sure that you will be hard to find.. just as VikingDad was after he let his mouth override his ***.

If you want to compare scores……Grayson beat WR by a smaller margain than Colquitt beat them, so does that mean Colquitt is as good or better than Grayson? The game is played on the field and will be decided there, not on this board.
No I am not jealous of anything that NSWR has done, and Yes I will be around next weekend after the game……hopefully you will be.

Hey with WR, NS, and HC, dropping to AAAA (That darn Veterans High School), what will become of 1AAAAA? Do you think that will force the GHSA to put Camden in region 1?–then, forcing the Savannah schools to play in AA and AAA where they belong.

Pops…

Back door…Front door…Side door…While it would be fun to al least PLAY in one playoff game, remember that #4 seed is going to draw Grayson AT Grayson…

EP went down that road last year with a MUCH more talented team. Grayson is a HANDFULL even when the teams are equally matched up and this year is very much a learning / growth year for a young EAST team with way to many jrs. playing key positions.
It’s still a “see and wait game” until tonights over anyway…

GO RAIDERS!!!

Brookwood Mom – How about a scouting report on South Gwinnett after tonights game? It looks like Etowah will get them in the playoffs.

Cannon – I am with you. We have our share of Sophomore’s and Junior’s at key skill positions, including QB, as well. I have definatley seen improvement though. If Etowah could put together four quarters, and play like they did against EP in the second half, we could be dangerous come playoffs.

Here’s some answers to a couple of questions posed to NHS fans.

Wolverine…There was plans to build a badly needed stadium at the new Veteran’s High School, but those plans have been put on the “back burner” because of money. It ain’t happening soon!

Goober…The four Warner Robins schools will all be in a AAAA region next year because all will be below 1,800 students. Rumor has it that Westside and Rutland of Macon, along with Jones County and Upson-Lee will be the other members of the region. A map of the new proposed school districts has been published, resulting in a rebellion by parents (and other relatives). For instance, my grandson is a sophomore at Northside (he lives less than 2 miles away). He will now be zoned for Houston County (more than 10 miles away). To some it is a racial thing, but not in my case. My grandson is white, Northside has the largest percentage of blacks, but we are all happy with his current situation. Some of the folks (mostly Houston County) are upset because their kids are being rezoned for Perry (which has a much higher black population). I know from personal conversations of the past, that many of them moved to their current location strictly because of race issues, and that’s a shame in 2009. The board of education also lied to the residents by saying they were under court order to “racially balance” the schools. That was not true. Bottom line, there are a lot of upset people around here right now.

As far as a prediction on tonight’s game…I HOPE the Eagles pull it out. I’m not dumb enough to say the Eagles have a sure victory. I fully expect a hard fought game (it always is) with very little scoring, so I will say Northside by 3 points. Time will tell.

Hey POPS! will do! I will tell this already, South has a fantastic quarterback! I know because he was our backup quarterback last year! IF he was our quarterback this year, we wouldn’t have the record we have now. I’m just saying……

Pops: South Gwinnett runs a spread offense with Kent Rollins as their QB. I saw them against Dacula & Grayson, both road games. They were able to move the ball on both Grayson & Dacula. However, Grayson was able to control TOP with a 33 to 15 minute advantage. South also has a WR, Krause, a Vanderbilt commitment. A team that can run the ball well & is ball control oriented should be able to beat South. I will say, do not get into a shootout, you will lose because South can put points on the board.
BROOKWOOD MOM: Plan to be there & packing the rain gear. Hopefully the heavy stuff will hold off until midnight.

NHS Eagle Fan: That promises to be an interesting region. Westside & NSWR will probably dominate. I know Westside & Jones County will see significant travel savings with trips to Thomasville & Bainbridge going away.

Yo, you scream your score, one of your few over Northside. (We still lead the series and it’s not close). That Camden road trip can be hazardous, Northside found that out last year, your turn this year. We’ll ride the MAC attack as long as we can.

Brookwood may get a break. It’s wet and could slow down souths passing game.

VIKINGFAN: I was recently at the stadium in Warner Robins and thought it was a great place, also the people down there were super friendly.
i would love to go there for a game anytime i get the chance.

NHS Eagle fan: Thanks for the good info. Sounds like some tough issues to deal with. One thing jumps out that will affect who moves from 5A to 4A: The GHSA voted in March this year to increase the cut-off margin between 4A and 5A to 1900 students. The following is a true copy of that vote, and here’s the link:

http://www.ghsa.net/files/documents/newsletter/NewsApril09.pdf

RECLASSIFICATION COMMITTEE: Report presented by Earl Etheridge
The Committee recommended:
Adjustments to 2010-2014 cycle: (based on the previous passage of implementing the four-year cycle)

(a) Class AAAAA will consist of schools with an FTE of 1900 or greater, and Class A will consist of schools with an FTE of 525 or less.
(b) At the mid-term of the cycle, a school shall be moved to a higher or lower classification if it has had an increase or a decrease in FTE of 20% or more, and the new numbers would move the school to a different classification.
(c) Private schools may enter the GHSA at the “mid-term” period.
(d) Policy for public schools entering the 2nd and 4th years of the reclassification cycle:

(1) In sports where the region has two-year scheduling, the new school will not be able to play a complete region schedule at the varsity level. In those sports, the school could play a varsity non-region schedule or a JV schedule.
(2) In sports having year-to-year schedules, the new school will have full membership once it has been assigned to a new region by the Reclassification Committee.
(3) In sports that have a region tournament to advance to post-season play, the region may allow a new school to accept a low seed in the tournament even though they did not play a complete region schedule.
That is a decision of the region.

Motion Passed (voice vote) Each of the above items were voted on individually and all passed.

Hope you guys have a great game tonight at the Mac!

Go Roswell,
You must be out of your mind. Sounds like your scared of the of the high octane Trojan Air Raid. Last week your upset sepical was Walton over Lassiter and this week Centenial over Lassiter. Sounds like you know Roswell isn’t going to stop All-State, should be All- American QB Hutson Mason and the Trojan offense. You just keep someone else will do what Roswell can’t. Just except the fact Roswell is going to be the #2 team in 6AAAAA.

EP Crew – how can you keep saying Marietta “should’ take care of Harrison. I haven’t seen Harrison play… but Marietta is rather weak at the line of scrimmage. If Harrison will play containtment on the stud RB and a “little” pass defense… I have to believe Harrison takes care of business. Is your prediction wishful thinking, or one based on fact?
