When watching Southwest DeKalb, you feel like you are watching an all-star team.
How loaded are the Panthers? They lost their workhorse at running back after three quarters last Friday, and put in a pair of backups who refused to let the offense skip a beat. This wasn’t against any team, but Marist, which played in last year’s state championship game and returned one of the best defenses around.
After watching many of the state’s elite Class AAAAA teams for most of the season, I’d put Southwest’s talent up against any team in Georgia. Here is a quick breakdown of the Southwest DeKalb all-stars:
Ken Malcome, RB: He is the straw that stirs the drink. He’s the team leader, and face of SWD. He’s also the state’s No. 1 tailback, and proved it with 182 yards rushing, including a 74-yard touchdown run, vs. Marist in three quarters. Malcome is strong (legs like tree trunks), fast, and powerful (loves contact). He runs strong between the tackles, and also had burst of speed to outrun the secondary. His only apparent weakness is when he runs East-West rather than North-South, while not much is known about his hands in the passing game. He is one of the few high school running backs who projects to play either tailback and fullback in college. He’s the state’s No. 1 RB (committed to UGA), followed by No. 2 Charles Perkins of Collins Hill (Georgia Tech), and No. 3 Mack Brown of M.L. King (Florida).
T.J. Stripling, DE: He’s the P-word, i.e. potential. He’s 6-6, 215 pounds. His enormous range of potential is a lot like two of the state’s top players from last year — Oconee County QB Zach Mettensberger (freshman at UGA) and North Clayton’s Emmanuel Dieke (freshman at Georgia Tech): Striping could either never play a down in college or end up being a first-round pick in the NFL. This year at Southwest DeKalb, Stripling is able to get by on pure athleticism, rarely using any technique or leverage. He is overly aggressive coming off the edge, and sometimes gets back there as quickly as the snap, to the dismay of quarterbacks. However, opposing teams have also learned it is best to run directly at Stripling. He often loses containment, and if you can get past his long reach, then it’s an automatic 6-7 yards. It is very dangerous to run away from Stripling, as he has explosive backside pursuit with his long strides. He has an imposing frame in high school, but will likely need to gain 15-25 pounds before playing in college.
Jonathan Mincy, DB: The Auburn-bound senior appears to be the total package. He’s got the quickness and speed, along with the best instincts on the all-star team for always being in the right place at the right time. He has good hips, but is rarely in the backpedal. He takes a lot of chances on pass plays, and looks more like a wide receiver on defense than a cornerback. He is most dangerous when he has the ball in his hands, either on an interception return, special teams, or spot duty at running back. Against Marist, he had a spectacular TD run, sprinting to the right, coming to a complete stop, then accelerating in the opposite direction to the end zone. Would not be surprised if other SEC schools tried to change his mind about Auburn before signing day.

Marques Dixon, WR-DB: It is baffling why Southwest DeKalb doesn’t give more offensive touches to Dixon. On a team of all-stars, he is the most explosive player, proven by his 85-yard kickoff return vs. M.L. King, along with a 43-yard run vs. Marist to set up the clinching score. He is a threat to score from anywhere on the field. He has speed, quickness, elusiveness and incredible vision. If Southwest DeKalb has “Mr. Inside and Outside,” it would be Malcome and Dixon.
Steven Coates, QB: It has not been a good year for Coates, who missed several games after suffering an ankle injury in the season-opener vs. M.L. King. He also reportedly got into trouble for senior silliness at school. Coates had his first chance to really showcase his skills vs. Marist, but left a negative impression with his show-boating on a 1-yard TD that somehow was not penalized. He also made poor decisions by throwing the ball into coverage, but that perhaps was out of eagerness to make big plays after being gone so long. He has all the tools to be a good high school quarterback, and will be counted on heavily down the stretch. He just needs to take a deep breath and be the leader he can be.
Buck Godfrey, coach: When Malcome went down with leg cramps in the third quarter vs. Marist, Malcome tried to return several minutes later. Unlike many other coaches I’ve seen in this situation, Godfrey ordered Malcome to the bench. This was SWD’s biggest game of the season to the date, deciding inside track to the region championship and No. 1 playoff seed, and the Panthers had to close without Malcome. Of course, the decision was made easier with the sensational play of replacements Dixon and Mincy. But it was still a gutsy call by the veteran coach. Godfrey will still have to figure out something about the kicking game, which is the team’s most glaring weakness. And many wonder why Godfrey doesn’t put Malcome, Mincy, and Dixon in the offensive backfield at the same time with a Wildcat or option formation. Godfrey provides confidence and leadership, telling the team that it would still win the state championship only minutes after losing to M.L. King.
Finally, we’ve talked a lot about the state’s largest classification (AAAAA). Now let’s talk about the next one down, Class AAAA.

Once again, Country vs. City. Griffin beat them last year and both teams are obviously better; however the country kids don’t look at the AJC and get the big head and see trash talking. Stay humble and take care of business and don’t deal with distractions. It all depends on the brackets and who has to travel.
Per this article the SWD QB has some leadership issues and that is the wrong position to have that problem.
Griffin should win the state championship, Great defense, team speed, and physical.

That region 6 has to play region 7. They got it predicted Stone Mountain @ Hiram, Tucker @ Northwest Whitfield, Seqouyah @ Marist, Dalton @ SW Dekalb. Those are all gonna be pretty good games and who ever wins out of those games will have a great chance to win state this year.

A few areas that are going to require some clean up prior to that state championship game. We(SWD) will have to manage the game alot better with speed of play calling, timeout usage, personel packaging, and mental lapses. The talent is state championship worthy, but it’s the small things that separate potential and execution. The staff will get it together for these kids sake to be sure that this season remains a magical one in the legacy that is SWD. Stay Focused- Seize the moment- tomorrow is promised to no one.

Southwest Dekalb – They defeated Peachtree Ridge 7 – 0 in pre-season and barely lost to MLK. Both of those schools play AAAAA and will challenge for the state title in the 5-A classification.

North Clayton does have a very good team and so does Griffin. I have not seen Westside Macon play. North Clayton, Griffin, SWD, Marist and maybe Westside seems to be the front runners. SWD dont get caught up in this hype, its great to be recognized but the game is played on the field not on this blog. The coaches did a great game of preparation in the last game but there were too many times where the players seemed to be confused after timeouts. The talent is there, a championship will come only if the coaches and players realize this, fight like hell and “seize this moment”.

You are right “Dekalb Fan”. SWD has to get by Tucker and Stone Mountain. The coaches had better get team focused on one game at a time. Although there will be some decision making to do for the coaches if SWD defeats Tucker. I believe they would be the #1 seed if they beat Tucker, so they do not want to get any key players hurt trying to beat Stone Mountain in a game that would only be academic for them, whereas Stone Mountain is still trying to hold off Lithonia, who could possibly sneak in at the 4 seed if Stone Mountain slips these last couple of weeks.

All I can say is… “I’m- so- glaaaaad/that I’m from Southwest Dekaaaaalb”. I’m a 1993 alum of SWD. The main thing to NOT feed into the hype. Fellas, it is a MUST that you all handle your business on every play, every game for the remainder of the way. It’s been a while since we’ve been in this position. You’ve done well to bring us back to prominence. Buck has put his entire life into our school, from English classes to the field. DO NOT LET HIM DOWN. He deserves another title before he leaves. This team can do it. The problem is no one else, other than your supporters, want that to happen. Big time players show up EVERY GAME, not just in big games. Do not out-think yourselves and play sound football. Keep doing what you’re doing, get to the championship game, and the state of GA will NEVER see a bigger crowd backing ANY team than the one you’ll summon. GO SWD!!! PANTHER PRIDE 4 LIFE!!!

Heres the deal…..Tucker, and Stone Mountain are Nice….Griffin is better than that.. But SDW will stand and deliver with all the class and spirit that is expected from the class program of Dekalb county. Coach Godfrey has had a hand in making football players and more importantly making MEN for 25 years… This years team wil reward him handsomely!!!

I attend to the Marist High Schhol versus Southwest DeKalb High Football Game on Friday, October 23rd, 2009. I was duly impressed. The Southwest Dekalb High School Panthers Football Team has size, speed, quickness, and believes in itself. Marist di not have the speed to compete. Speed kills. Absolut speed kills absolutely. This 2009 team I believe is better than the 1972 and the 1995 Southwest DeKalb State Championship teams. I belive that the running back for this year’s SWD, Mr. Ken Malcome is as good as mr. Gregory Graves of the 1972 SWD Championship team and while Mr. Quincey Carter of the 1995 team is the best quarterback in DeKalb County history (better than Charles Dudish of the great Avondale teams of the mid-1960’s) SWD’s speed on offense make up for any problems on offense. I hope that SouthwestDeKalb wins the 2009 State Championship Game. Their competion is the North Claton Team, the Griffin Bears of Spalding County, and the Westside Macon team. Marist seems to be smallish and slower this year and Tucker is year away after they won the 2008 AAAA Football Championship in Georgia. Let’s pray to God that all these teams have no severe injuries if it HIS/HER will.

Man, I’m currently working out of state, and will probably be for the next year or so. I’m really starting to miss being back home in the metro area. The high school football in the entire state and region is something to behold. You guys enjoy the up coming playoffs and root your team on to victory!

GRIFFIN and NORTH CLAYTON sort-of mirror eachother…they both have great running games (PLUS)..a serious passing attack…though they both need to work on their defense a little….I like teams that are well-balanced. You have to be able to do both to win a championship. SWD has a sensational run attack…but lack the passing game. I give the edge to the GRIFFIN BEARS.

You guys forgetting who is the defending champs! Tucker. Need I remind everyone that last yr after Tucker lost to Marist 38-0 they didnt loose another game. Beat SWD and had 10 penalties called on them that destroyed drives. Yes SWD is talented and returned everybody and Tucker lost damn near everybody but it still a Buck coached team. Which is very undecipline. Tucker coaches will out coach him. And yes Tucker is coming off a win against St Mountain. Tucker may or may not be a yr away from another state title. To “Griffin Bear” ask the Griffin players how tough region 6 is. They barely beat SWD who played without their leading rusher who was out with a broken leg and when they got to face a team from 6 that was at full strength “Tucker”, well when I saw the score I thought it must be a misprint. Man up and admit Griffin got beat in every phase of the game by Tucker it was over at half time. Region 6 has been represented in the Finals the past 3yrs in a row.

You are correct in your assessment as far as SWD is concerned. If they beat Tucker..and that’s a big if…their game against Stone Mountain won’t mean much. Stone Mountain has to win one of their last two games to get in…Chamblee and SWD. Trust me, Stone Mountain is focusing all their attention on Chamblee and when they beat Chamblee, all this will be moot anyway. As for Lithonia, their season ends Friday at Marist. Even if for some strange reason Stone Mountain slips up, they(Lithonia) won’t get in by virtue of their head to head lost to Stone Mountain. Chamblee has a better chance of getting in than Lithonia, but I don’t see that happening. Those Stone Mountain players are focused and know what’s on the line. They are not going to depend on someone winning(or losing) to gain entry into the playoffs. They are gonna take care of their own business like they have been doing all year.

The SWD High School Band was the only band to perform in the Opening Ceremonies of the 1996 Summer Olympics. They were also featured in the hit movie Drumline in 2002; the movie used students from the high school band as extras, as well as the school’s uniforms; in addition, a SWD alumni was featured as the drumming double for Nick Cannon.
After the success of Drumline, record producer Dallas Austin tapped the marching band for a sequel. Paramount Pictures was not interested in the production of a sequel, so instead Austin decided to produce a reality television show, titled “Drumroll: SWD.” The reality show premiered on November 27, 2007 on Peachtree TV’s — a new local Atlanta television station — first original television series.
The football team has won numerous region titles, winning the Georgia AAA state championship in 1972 and the AAAA state championship in 1996. The SWD Boys Track and Field teams have won 9 state titles with the most recent coming in 2007. The SWD Girls Track and Field teams have won 4 state titles with the most recent titles coming in 2008 and 2009. The SWD Girls Basketball team won the Georgia 4-AAAA state championship in 2008 and 2009.
Over 300 students are members of the band. Southwest DeKalb was the pilot school for the DeKalb County Teacher Cadet Program beginning in 1992 and still fosters this program today, with competition at a peak to be accepted into the program. SWD also houses a Navy Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps program.
Southwest DeKalb’s Advanced Placement students in U.S. Government and History, led by Mr. William Thomas, were the state champions in the 1998-99 “We the People . . . the Citizens and the Constitution” competition. SWD repeated as state champions for 1999-2000 and again in 2003-2004.
In February 2009, The College Board announced that Southwest DeKalb High School was recognized as the public school with the largest number of African-American students in the class of 2008 achieving success(with a score of 3 or higher)on the U.S. History Exam. Southwest DeKalb was the only school in Georgia recognized for achieving tremendous success in leading the nation in helping African-American and/or Latino students to succeed in AP subjects. Joining them in this recognition were schools from California, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Michigan, Tennessee and Texas.

You people are just afraid of DEKALB COUNTY FOOTBALL. We weren’t on ESPN for no reason. We have some of the most talented players in the state, as well as quality coaching. The days are over for dekalb teams only relying on their athletic abilities to get them through. Please believe that X’s and O’s are being taught at these schools and I guess thats why many DEKALB athletes are having success on the college and pro levels. If you are not winning in Dekalb you better fire and rehire your staffs because the talent is there! And though they are private schools, Marist and St. Pius are in Dekalb too. You guys in places like Griffin should have good teams. You dont live in a place where high school are literally 3 miles apart. Public schools such as Tucker, SWD, MLK, Stone Mountain and Stephenson are no more than 5-10 miles from each other. Consider yourselves fortunate that you live in the Backwoods!

The Question is which team do I pick to Class AAAAA?
At the beginning of the season, I predicted that Lowndes County will be the team to beat, and that no one could beat Lowndes County this year. I was proven wrong by Eagle Nations Rising. ( Boy Do I Dislike It Coming From Him) But this year in Class AAAAA just like it has already been commented on, In Class AAAAA it will be a serious battle / fight to the finish in the playoffs this year among Class AAAAA Teams.
Region 1-AAAAA All I can say is WOW!!!!! It is to be expected as any team from that Region could make a run for the State Title. Right now, you have Northside Warner Robbins who is number one in the Region, very close by Lowndes County in second, In third you have Colquitt County who has also made a serious statement of not counting them out, and in Fourth you have Warner Robbins who has quietly won themselves into playoff contention this year. Those four teams alone can and probably will create Havoc in the playoffs.
Region 2-AAAAA you have in order of seeding, Stephenson, Union Grove, Martin Luther King, who are very dangerous this year and capable of beating some top ranked teams in Class AAAAA and you have Newton.
Region 3-AAAAA you have Camden County who is Always making their mark for a Title and can not be under estimated, 2nd seed Windsor Forest of Savannah, who shockingly upset Bradwell Institute this year, 3rd seed Bradwell Institute who normally comes in 2nd in the Region behind Camden County, who are playing this year with a very young team to include 12 starters being injured in the regular season with 5 of the twelve being out foe the season. I have never seen anything like this in high school football. That may answer the reason why they were beaten this year by some non contender teams like a Jenkins of Savannah, and Windsor Forest, and the 4th seed Beach of Savannah. As much as I am a Fan of Region 3-AAAAA (Bradwell Institute) I am realistic. Every school I suspect to be one and done with exception to Camden County that may make it to round two this year. But I believe that their run will come to a screeching halt in the 2nd round this year.
Region 4-AAAAA you have Newnan, and then everyone else. Same here. Just like Region 3-AAAAA all except for Newnan will be one and done.
Region 5-AAAAA you have McEachern, whom has played very well this year as the number one seed. I put number 2 seed Woodstock to go further than McEachern in the playoffs. Etowah, and erast Paulding will be one and done after playing those teams in Region 8-AAAAA.
Region 6-AAAAA you have Lassiter may get by in the first, and you also have Roswell who may also get by, but Walton and Milton, may be exiting after the first round.
Region 7-AAAAA you have North Gwinette followed closely by the “Ridge” Peachtree Ridge will definitely advance to the 2nd round. Collins Hill and Norcross will more than exit after the first round.
Region 8-AAAAA you have Grayson or as AVIKING FAN put it, “GREYSON”
who we know will have no problem advancing to the 2nd round, South Gwinette will advance as well, but for Dacula, and Brookwood, call it a day after the first round.
So, there you have it after the first round. I will comment after that first round is over, and done with.
But the question is which Class AAAAA team do I think will win Class AAAAA? My favorite is Lowndes County, but I can’t conclude because of the way Grayson has been playing, and Northside Warner Robbins.

I watched the SWD/Marist game on CSS and was definitely impressed with SWD’s talent.
SWD was physically superior on both lines of scrimmage, and while the game was pretty even in the first half, Marist was eventually worn down and gashed by the big boys up front.
The sloppy playing conditions didn’t help either team in terms of executing their offenses.
A couple of observations:
There were far too many personnel mixups resulting in wasted timeouts from the SWD sideline – it’s one of those small things that can kill you the closer you get to the Dome. The coaching staff needs to get that cleared up.
Tucker lost a ton of seasoned, senior D1 talent from last year’s team. While they are a good team this year, they are essentially a rebuilding team.
If they play solid football, SWD should win this game.

My two cents. I have seen griffin and N Clayton…both are stud laden teams. Griffin’s defense is a beast. the two defensive ends #7 (georgia bound 6-4 ) and #47 (soph 6-4) are ridiculous. Nothing is going outside. their linebackers are ferocious. Now they are overly agressive, so a passing team can beat them. the problem…neither tucker nor SWD can throw consistently. The bottom line AAAA playoffs are gonna be a monster. Cant wait!

Oh yeah last year in the final four Tucker beat us 34-0 and Marist beat Jonesboro 20-19. Jonesboro is in our region. So its not like we dont play anyone. Clayton Co. does have athletes they just arent our athletes lol! All jokes aside Region 4-AAAA is not a pushover we are just that good this year.

Westside Macon is probably a little better this year than last. Losin to eventual state champion Tucker on an int. This young energetic coaching staff knows what it takes to advance all the way. Westside is better on defense and has two very capable QB’s, RB’s, and WR’s. There are alot of talented players on both sides of the football. I look for them to win their first state football championship.

You had better think again. I NEVER said that. You need to go back to my comments and re-read them again. I stated that in Region 4-AAAAA, it is Newnan, then everybody else. meaning, it just like region 3-AAAAA this year. No other team in that Region will advance other than Newnan, and that will be a hard fought game. Do you realize who Region 4-AAAAA will be playing against? In case you don’t know, they are up against Region 1-AAAAA. You tell me who will Westlake , East Coweta, and Chapel Hill is going to beat out of Region 1-AAAAA? The it looks like to me,
Newnan will face either Warner Robbins or Valdosta
West Lake will face Colquitt County
East Coweta will face Lowndes County
Chapel Hill will face Northside Warner Robbins.

I have seen Marist, Tucker, SWD, and Griffin this year. SWD talent is good enough to overcome suspect coaching and mental mistakes. SWD is clearly the most talented AAAA team this season. Griffin’s varsity was outscored by Marist in a pre-season scrimmage 14-7 with the night ending in a 14-14 tie after the JV scored in the fourth quarter. Griffin is quick, but undisciplined. Tucker is well-coached and has some great, albeit young, talent. They will need to overcome mental mistakes and a significant decline at quarterback from last year. Marist is an enigma. What they lack in size they make up in speed and scheme. However, this year’s team is making the mistakes that Marist normally exploits when they are made by the other team (untimely penalties, undisciplined play, and turnovers). Any one of the four could end up with the trophy depending on the draw, injuries, illness, and how things play out. If everything were like a track meet and based purely on physical talent, SWD wins without a fight. But they will have to overcome their coaching. I am amazed by some of the play calling, time outs, and personnel changes. Overall, this is a down year for AAAA.

Marcus dude you are the ultimate SWD fan. I love SWD and went there for a few years in the early 90’s. People forget back then how we spent time in the USA Today polls on a regular basis. The band was fire, all was good. But you got to admit, SWD ducked off for a minute. It wasn’t really about Stephenson opening; Stephenson took most of their enrollment form Stone Mountain, Redan and Lithonia. MLK had a little to do with it, but they also took enrollment from Cedar Grove and Lithonia too. So you can’t use school openings as an excuse for mediocrity, which is what you could call where SWD was from that heartbreaking state quarterfinal in 99 when they were 12-0 and lost to Lowndes over at Halford( then Memorial Stadium). SWD excels when they have a multitude of talented players, but straight up, if you stop the run you have a great chance against them. As a Decatur native I pull for the Panthers, and I agree that they are probably the team to beat in AAAA. IMO you guys need to stay grounded and leave the talking to the pads and field because a lot of these AAAA contenders/ pretenders are new schools and are trying to make history of there own. Take care of business next two weeks and don’t get caught looking ahead, Stone Mountain BEAT yall two years ago if I remember correctly.

I would bet the purty little baby blue toboggan I won in 2005 from a rather good looking Camden lady at the Georgia Dome Semis (we beat Camden 30-0) against our region being 1 and done in the 1st round. It’s hanging on the AAAAA State Championship trophy at Lowndes High School.

Hey Region 6AAAA. I said you are MISINFORMED about the FACTS. And No I am not the Mighty Bears official spokesperson, but I would take the job gladly if it were offered.They could probably do worse and still win. Listen, it is like this. I have come on here MANY times and applauded the greatness of SWD. They have a lot of talent and if they win the state It would be because they earned it, especially considering the brackets this year. I realize the likes of TUCKER, MARIST, and STONE MOUNTAIN have quality programs year in and year out. I am an objective individual who happens to enjoy pulling for my alma-matter whom I played for back in the day. You try and talk smak about my beloved Bears and you are gonna get it handed right back in your face, plain and simple. Show respect, and I give it. Show stupidity, and I will outwit you with intelligence EVERY TIME. Others from 6AAAA know I am a fair writer on here. Ask them, they are honest. Many fine folks up that way, why don’t you join their ranks? I do not wish any ill intent to ANY ATHLETE including CHEERLEADERS because I know how hard they all work. I RESPECT ALL MY STATE HIGH SCHOOLS. I have been around the world when in the military and know I am blessed to be from the great state of Georgia. If my original comments about SWD being put on the cover of Madden and Sports illustrated hurt your feelings, it was because you are at least smart enough to know what that supposed “curse” is all about. I thought it was kinda funny myself. You apparently took it the wrong way, ruffled feathers wont get you any respect on here. Griffin is on top right now and have earned every bit of it. . So Good luck to SWD the remainder of the year and I do know this: the rest of your opponents have better records than the rest of ours, I give you that much, but we will still play each game like we do all of them. I’ve enjoyed catching up with the comments on this blog, its been the most interesting all year. One thing for sure, no one has seen all of SWD’s offense due to the QB being out most of the season. I can assure you, they have a very poised QB,as stated by Marist coach, with a great arm! He also ran a 4.4 in the 40, so he does not lack speed. This is one of the advantages in which SWD have on the remaining teams, no one has been able to scout the QB. Watching this young man from his Glenwood Hills park days and winning a Championship there, he is very skilled. All he needs to do is settle down and make good decisions, because he is the missing link that the team has needed for the past few years. He is more of a silent weapon! I recalled someone representing Griffin stating that we can’t pass the ball, well when we pass, you are going to wonder where the passing game came from and I just want you to remember that the QB went down in the first game of the opening season, so all of pass plays were removed from the playbook, now that he is back, Steve “McAir” Coates is taking his team to the promiseland!!!

I played for SWD last year and we have a excellent passing game. Our QB has just been hurt and had he not gotten hurt we would be undefeated. Griffin is a good football team but SWD is better we are the better team we have a better coach and we have the best school sprit in all of georgia. Panther Pride!

I love and support Dekalb County football and believe we can a state title this year, but this wont be a cake walk by any means. This Griffin team is solid on defense and has an explosive big play offense. If both Griffin and SWD meet in the finals it should be an incredible game to watch as both teams are better than last year. I don’t see SWD winning because Buck is too predictable. If he gains good yards on one play he runs the same play again. He doesn’t manage the his time out well and city team like SWD can’t beat he country boys. Every coach in Dekalb county for the exxeption of Tucker and Marist coach the same way.Not SWD, but Marist or Tucker. Never SWD.

Stone Mountain has a defense and if they can muster some offense teams like SWD are in trouble. Tucker is hurting this year on offense, but Buck fold under pressure and you know what he’s going to run. I see tucker beating SWD because he will out coach Buck. That’s not hard to do. SWD secondary is weak!! Buck will never win another championship

Ya’ll beat a Tucker team that lost everybody and is rebuilding this yr. We have a foundation so be happy beating a team that is mostly 10&11 graders while ya’ll returned everybody. Better get your licks in now cause next yr when Vaughters and the rest of the guys are seniors and junior it’s going to be another Championship. We will return everybody except Devin #5. I hope SWD wins the state wit all that talk going on. If not the season is a waste and it dont matter if ya’ll beat us or marist. Cause we both have State Championships this Decade! Stevens didn’t get out coach. He just coaching young and dumb players right now. Don’t worry we will see what happens when the roles are reverse next yr. SWD looses everybody and Tucker returns everybody. Buck sucks as a head coach the championship he did win was in Davenport was the offensive coordinator! Ya’ll better win state that’s all I’m saying. If you don’t this season will be a disapointment. Tucker was/is not the favorite to win it all. Everybody knows this is their rebuilding yr and wasn’t expecting much. WE lost Johnathan and Drayton and our QB. And all of the DB’s most of the offensive and defensive lines. Im not impressed wit T.J Stripling or Malcome. I’m a big UGA fan and not excited that they are coming. TJ takes plays off and Malcome is big and slow. Might be a FB at UGA

Another thing D Boy last year are whole defense for the most part was juniors and sophomores but we didn’t make excuses and say we were rebuilding we just played and are defense gave up the least amount of points in the county. And even with a young team we still didn’t get BLANKED last years score was SWD 9 Tucker 13 and we were driving for the game winning td and threw a pick so it’s not like yall kicked our butts like we did yall.

As the parent of a 1995 grad and a 2000 grad of SWD we will always have good and lasting memories of a school full of pride and traditions. We started attending SWD football games in the early 80’s at Panthersville stadium and we are still attending! Thanks to the teachers,football staff and all the SWD family on Kelly Chapel. The Biggest S H O U T O U T to Coach BUCK for helping to instill leadership in our young men. Both of my children have master degrees-My 2000 grad in working on his DR. degree!!! The Blue and Gold! Congrats on your win against Tucker. I’ve been studying the brackets, and although it is a tad early to speak on this situation, it seems like North Clayton and Thomas County Central is going to end up on your side for the playoffs. Southwest Macon’s loss Friday put them on Griffin’s side, so that is a definite tough one for us. We have wrapped up our region, but have a real good Alcovy team coming to the den this coming Friday. You guys are a great team this year, but you still have a long road to hoe, so just keep that in mind. If you are lucky enough to meet up with the Mighty Bears of Griffin, you will have to go through some superbly good competition. Now if your self-appointed spokes person MARCUS could be civil enough to formulate a cognitive reply without all the mean spirited backtalk, it would be appreciated. Otherwise, good luck to you all the rest of the way. You have earned the respect of the State and I personally applaud your teams accomplishments to this point. GO BEARS!

Good to see one of our teams climb the latter. Griffin should be nervous because SWD is on your tail! Too bad for Tucker, but they will be back. Marist is still Marist, so dont put them under the radar. And our fourth spot is still up for grabs. SMHS needs to get their offense straight and Chamblee is picking up momentum. Lithonia is still in the mix as well. I expect typical Lithonia to be finished after this week though. A three way tie would come down to point differential and Stone Mountain has the upper hand in that case.

I have played more football and know more football than half the damn bloggers on here. Vaughters is more talented than any SWD player on there team. Yes better than T.J stripling. Like I said he takes plays off and thats never a good thing. All you have to do is run the ball his way and that’s his weakness. Run support. he is strickly a rushing from the weakside of the DL.

When you loose a player like Johnathan Davis who might I add was the best player in te state last yr and Drayton Calhoun you will loose a lot. We have guys that will replace them but they are in 9 & 10th grade. You all will see wassup. We still made it to the playoff this yr and our team is not that good. OK people as a player for SWD we have alot of supporters, critics, and fair-weather fans that turn into critics. Whether you love us or hate us, Coach Godfrey has a pretty impressive record on the field and off. Whether his play calling is outdated yet to have seen a game this year where a team has shut us down. Whether Malcolme is slow yet to have a seen game other than MLK where he didnt get 100 yds or better. Whether Griffin won last year or not doesnt matter what you did last year doesn’t mean didly squat towards what you would do if you play us this year. No one is perfect and without flaw its all about who prepares the best. Whether Tucker was rebuilding or not they were on our schedule and we had to play them what were we supposed to take it easy on them because they were 10th and eleventh graders. Poor little Tucker Cubs awww… I guess every team needs to sign a disclaimer and release it to the media before all their games. Stone Mountain is next and after that its time to start a new season the post season where records dont ITS WIN OR GO HOME. So if it comes Dec 11 and we are in the dome and Griffin, Tucker or Marist is in attendance whether it be as spectators or participators i hope you come ready for a good contest.

You are on it my man!! Me and my brother are SWD alums and we went to that rainy playoff game down in Griffin where SWD had every opportunity in the world to win that game and taking it to the Dome. Losing it in the 4th quarter is what hurt us with the “home field” made penalties and then see them get blown out of the Dome by Tucker. SWD has got to pass a little/lot more to get to the state championship game. What I am very scared of is the coaching staff. The players seem so disoriented about who’s in/who’s out and what’s really going to kill us are those illed TIMEOUTS!! Got to manage and maintain those my man to get to the promise land. I predict a SWD/Griffin championship game at Tara Stadium because there’s no way in the world Griffin Stadium will hold over 10,000 people. Panther Pride baby!! Ya better recognize!!

Personality0905 – Don’t know if you were at the Tucker game last Friday but to me SWD showed the ability to pass most of the game the QB was 10 for 15 passing the ball and this was with Malcome not playing a single down. I agree with you about them alway’s seeming to be disoriented about who’s in/out happens all the time. I don’t even want to talk about the use of the timeout’s…….hopefully as in the past we’ll have the talent to overcome the coaching deficiencies. Go Panther’s!!!!!!!!!!
