Region 6-AAAA,
That was a typo, It was suppose to be Sandy Creek. I was always thinking Sandy Creek for the win.

Region 6-AAAA,
I also picked Evans at the time because Statesboro has been upset (hammered) by a School in a lower classification, and they have lost a few games. Evans are normally a one and done school but I will give Evans the edge because of Statesboro being down this season, and Evans playing at home. I could be wring about Statesboro but at this time, I just don’t think so this year.

SportsFan,
Marist was hammered by St. Pius (a AAA school), but you cant tell me that they wont contend for the State Championship this year. Statesboro, like Marist, is one of those programs that always finds a way to show up come playoff time. You feel me?

Region 6-AAAA, Marist fan here: While Stone Mountain is having a good season for that school, I’d be surprised to see it win in the first round. Tucker may win its first round game, but it likely will not go much farther. I think that Sequoyah will be a tough first round game for Marist — they played us tough last year, and Sequoyah will be a better team in 3 weeks than it has been because its star running back is now playing after having been suspended for much of the season.

Ed,
How could you be from Marist and not support the whole Region? When you guys were in the Dome last year, we werent only happy for Tucker; we were happy for the region as a whole. That was similar to two SEC schools playing for the National Championship. How much better do you think Hiram is compared to the BIG THREE in our Region?

I agree, Hiram does have a good team. But remember that Sprayberry only lost 14-7 to a very good Lasiter team (8-0 / AAAAA). I think Sprayberry beats Hiram in a very close, hard fought game.

Region 6AAAA: Don’t get me wrong, my man — I want Stone Mountain, Tucker, and SWD, along with Marist, to win in the playoffs — let’s have an all Region 6 Final Four!! I’m just stating my honest opinion about what I think will happen, but you never know . . . .

Region 6-AAAA,
I feel you. But I know this Statesboro Football program oh so well. I am from Bradwell Institute, and we use to play against Statesboro for many years. They were also in our region when we (Bradwell Institute ) was in Class AAAA, which was the States highest Classification at the time. I’m telling you we use to beat each other. But the Statesboro I know regular season was never like this as far as i can remember. I believe Statesboro is down this year, and will not go far in the post season. Next year will be different, and you all had better watch out.

Region 6-AAAA,
I believe South West Dekalb, and Tucker, and Marist will have no problem advancing. I don’t think that a Stone Mountain will get past a Hiram if they play against each other though.

Hawks, I will take lucky any day if it gets me a victory in a tight subregion. Last I checked, turnovers are part of the game. Hiram’s defense was all over the QB. He threw that INT because of pressure. Days had been getting hit all game long. At halftime I knew that we had seen the best that Hillgrove had and the score was only 13-7.

What do you base your assessment upon regarding the outcome of the Stone Mountain/Hiram possible match-up? Do you think that Stone Mountain, although having a good year, is just a fluke? Or do you really believe that Hiram has the size and speed to beat Stone Mountain? I have seen Stone Mountain play a couple of times this year. Offensively, they have the most balanced attack in DeKalb county, which includes MLK, Stephenson, Tucker, and SWD. They lead the county in total offense. Defensively, they are in the top 5. Now I know those are just “stats”, but competing in 6AAAA, that means a lot. Trust me.

ED on your comment that Stone Mountain is having a good year for that school is too funny. I think any school in Region 6AAAA with a 6-2 record is good. I mean you have Tucker, Marist, SouthWest, Miller Grove, Chamblee, and Lithonia, all school that you have to come play ball against. So whatever Stone Mountain did to get where they are I commend them and I think they have a very talented well coached team because form what I hear their head coach didn’t get hired until the summer time meaning they his coaching staff didn’t even get spring ball with those kids. I don’t know if Hiram and that region plays the ball like 6AAAA but I wouldn’t sleep on not one team coming from region 6AAAA

And?? That was at the beginning of the season. Hey, but I guess you have a limited memory. Marist hung 30+ on Tucker last year. What happened later in the season? Do you think Marist could repeat their performance against Stone Mountain in the playoffs?? I don’t think so. But you keep on saying what you are saying. Stone Mountain is the real deal and you will see in the playoffs. Hey….still on earth.

Ed,
That’s true, but that was the second game of the season. Marist handed it to Stone Mountain, but that means nothing now. I would think you knew that after the Title game last year. I know that SWD team doesn’t have you out of touch with reality. Also, those stats are accurate and if you need proof, you can check out http://www.dekalb.k12.ga.us and go to Instructional services then Athletics for the stats. Stone Mountain is a top 3 offense in Dekalb County(not just Region 6AAAA) and top 5 Defense. I know you don’t think they play in a suspect county, do you? Stone Mountain, this year, is a better 4 seed than Chamblee was, last year.

Stone Mountain had to sit out two “Difference Makers” (big play starters) in the Marist game. One on Defense and one on Offense. Stone Mountain isnt the same team and neither is Marist.

Region 6AAAA — those stats do not include teams other than DeKalb County public schools — excludes Marist, excludes St. Pius, and does not include all other AAAA schools in the state. If you look at the top 10 AAAA schools for point differential, Stone Mountain is not in the Top 10.
The Tucker game last year is irrelevant — Tucker was a 1-loss team last year and made it to the State Finals. If Stone Mountain makes it to the State Finals, then your point will be valid. Stone Mountain already has two losses, and has not played SWD yet. You cannot seriously be saying that Stone Mountain is as strong this year as Tucker was last year. Come on!
Bottom line: It is great to see Stone Mountain doing so well, but let’s not get carried away into thinking that the 4th seed in Region 6 is among the 4 best teams in the state. Region 6 is awesome, but I’m not ready to disrepect every other top seed in that way.

Pirate Fan,
No I don’t think that Stone Mountain is a fluke at all. However; I don’t think that Hiram is either, and I’m sorry but I don’t think that Stone Mountain’s defense equal to or any where near Stephenson or Martin Luther King. Stone Mountain was hammered by Marist, and you lost to Tucker. (Two Ranked Teams) Hiram is ranked number 5 in that State might I add. I believe that Hiram is the better team. You should count your blessings that Stone Mountain secured a 4th place slot. If Lithonia didn’t have to face Marist, I would have put them before Stone Mountain as the number 4 seed.

sportsfan31313: Stone Mountain (2 region losses) beat Lithonia (3 region losses), and thus not sure how Lithonia could secure the 4th seed even it were to beat Marist, unless you think there is a chance that Stone Mountain loses to Chamblee and SWD.

If SWD beats Tucker, I believe they would win the region and make the Stone Mountain game almost meaningless to them. It is good to see Stone Mountain having a good season and I hear they have some young players starting. The Westside Macon-TCC game should be very interesting. We should learn a little bit more about how good Westside is.

Ed,
I saw who Lithonia plays in their final two games and I don’t think they will win those games. bottom line is that Stone Mountain will lose three Region games by the time the season is over. But I was just suggesting IF that was to happen, (Lithonia win the remaining two games. Nevertheless, the tie will still go to St. Mountain for the number four seed. Bottom line is that Stone Mountain will be one, and done anyway when it is all said and done…..

I hope Hiram beats Sprayberry and Northwest beats Dalton. I want NHS to have another shot at Hiram. We had some stupid mistakes in that game (7 turnovers) and Northwest has gotten SO MUCH better since the Hiram game. Our defense only allowed Hiram 12 points. I think Northwest beats Dalton, but I think Sprayberry will beat Hiram. Then Northwest will play Sprayberry in the 7-AAAA title game. Dalton will play Hillgrove (Dalton wins). Sequoyah will play Hiram (Hiram wins).

All Im saying is that our Region has good teams and not just athletes. I know nobody gives our 4th seed a chance, but it is my job to pull for our teams and argue that our Region is amongst the best in the state. If you research the dome and finals over the last years you will find that our Region has put out teams that go far. I’m not saying anything like “our worst will beat your first,” but know that if a team comes out of this Region with a playoff spot they have to be a quality squad. I’m not sure how well a Hiram would fare if they had to play programs that are in our Region week in and week out.

Northwest, Hillgrove, and South Paulding all turned the ball over on Hiram and just like any other good team Hiram captilizes. Thats the difference between Great teams and Good teams. Northwest, Hillgrove and South all good teams but if they were great they would hold on to the ball. And if any of you saw the Hiram/Hillgrove game you would know that Hiram put a hurting on the GT commit. Hirams Defense is very fast and has been undersized in most of their games but they always have a way to keep Hiram in the game. Thats the difference maker. Defense wins Championships. GO HORNETS!!!!

“I know football” said ” I mean you have Tucker, Marist, SouthWest, Miller Grove, Chamblee, and Lithonia, all school that you have to come play ball against.”: You do realize that Miller Grove has only won 12 AAAA games since 2006 (half of them against North Springs and Forsyth Central, who are extremely weak). Lithonia has only won 5 AAAA games since 2008, all but one this year; in 2006 and 2007, Lithonia went winless both seasons in AAAAA ball. Stone Mountain? — great year this year — great success story given coaching situation; before this year, won 10 AAAA games from 2005-2008. Seriously, I love Region 6AAAA, think it is the best in the state, and I hope that all the 6AAAA teams that make the playoffs dominate, but let’s not overstate the depth of the region — it is usually Marist or Tucker at the front, with SWD back to being a force as well (and Mays or St. Pius in the past thrown into the mix, before realignment)!

Turnovers are a part of the game, a fumble and an interception will cost you a game if it occurs against a good team. That game is over though, learn from it and move on.

That Marist game was in week 2 and Stone Mountain’s defense was missing a couple of key players. Not an excuse, but just stating the facts. The defense is much stronger now. Only one team after Marist scored more than one touchdown against Stone Mountain and that was Lithonia in a rainstorm and they only scored 15 points. Even in the lost against Tucker(ranked team), they only managed one touchdown off of a freaky botched punt. Tucker normally steamrolls team with their running game. They had 168 yards in total offense. Not a bad for a bunch of “upstarts”.
Don’t get too caught up in those rankings because they don’t mean squat in the playoffs. It’s a new season. I’m sure Stone Mountain won’t be concerned with their #5 ranking. If they meet, Hiram better get ready for a balanced attack and a nasty and fast defense. Can they handle that??

All teams coming out of our Region, for the playoffs, have high quality coaching staffs as well as superb athletes. Mix that together and that spells TROUBLE for you teams outside our Region. Some of you wish you could play in our Region because it would make your team better, while others are glad because you might not see the playoffs if you were. Some of you unbeatens are just HYPE cause you don’t play anyone until the playoffs. Meanwhile we beat on each other and get better and tougher.
