First call for ENR! Wherefore are thou, ENR! Calling ENR … hello ENR?! Is there any life on the planetoid called ENR?!

Northside beat Lowndes in 1966. According to ENR, the Genius of the Universe, everything that has happened on Planet Earth since then is a direct result of this event 43 years ago — perhaps even his own birth?!

Colquitt County 21, Warner Robins 20

Tift Co 87, Northside 0

Valdosta 24, Coffee 7 (Tomberlin begins his lame-duck run at the state playoffs, as all of his bosses hope like hell that Valdosta loses so they can save face).

Lowndes 52, Houston 7 (at the MAC!, ENR)

Come on out and regale us, boy!

Take Newnan over Pebblebrook, Collins Hill over Mill Creek, Gwinnett over Forsyth in the battle of the North’s, Brookwood over Dacula (that’s for you BROOKWOOD MOM), Colquitt over the Demons (hope my wife doesn’t read this-she won’t) & Parkview over Idle.

No one is on Grayson schedule that will upset them. The toughest part of their schedule is behind them. But what can happen is a team that runs the spread effectivley and gets a 2 touchdown lead on them would give them trouble. Both South Gwinnett and Parkview run the spread and giave them fits until the 4th quarter where Grayson showed their mettle and pulled away to win each. Grayson’s strength is their defense hands down.

Westminister with Ralph David Abernathy has a chance to upset Buford on Oct 30th. That will be a game to watch.

LaGrange over Carver next week. Even with the home field advantage enjoyed by Carver-Col, the Grangers win. (unless the officials play a HUGE factor), which they are more than capable of doing in Columbus, Ga. The Grangers are a better team led by the 2 most under rated players in the state: RB Ocie Salter(5′5 162) and QB Jamius Gunsby(6′5 229).

Left out a few other reasons for the upset. Next to Newnan’s Ransby, LG’s Josh Manning is the best multi purpose DB/Return man/receiver in the state. Throw in LB/RB Xavier Heard(5′10.5 190 lbs), LB Devon Smith(6′0.5 223) DT Jarrell Williams (6′1 275) along with a host of other talented well coached Grangers. The Grangers are a better team than Carver-Col. Just hope the officials will let the kids play.

Considering the Mighty Griffin Bears meteoric and well deserved rise to the top of the AAAA ranks this year, it seems to have some of you self-deemed high school pundits in a “crumpled drawers” attitude! The Alcovy types seem to be the most wrinkle-rashed and craw-gnashed of the bunch, with all the “what about me” (waa-waah.snif snif-sob-waaaa) “why are we not considered in the rankings”??? rantings and carrying on….PUH-LEEEEEZE… good grief Alcovy…it’s like this…Once you establish a TRADITION of Winning YEAR after YEAR and playing the BEST the State has to offer then and only then may you even be mentioned in the same sentence with the likes of GRIFFIN, SWD, BAINBRIDGE, MARIST, TUCKER, WESTSIDE MACON, NORTH CLAYTON, etc etc….just be patient…try to keep winning in your GRIFFIN OWNED region, and USE SOME OINTMENT FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!!!!! Oh and by the way…when you get slammed and hear the “bear-meat” chants from the most loyal fans in the State of Georgia, don’t feel too bad about it…many good teams have heard it over the years, right after the Mighty Bear Claw hammer smack engulfed them.…Griffin is THAT good t his year…seriously…. buy extra ointment.

Just a question that needs to be asked. What is up with all the sensitivity this year that wasn’t around last year or previous years with regards to politics, etc.

I understand we no longer have Bush as president, so is that why we now have all the sensitivity? Seems to me a different standard being set here. Reverse Racism? Just asking?

Is this the real problem or are we now just deciding to enforce something we feel we should have been enforcing all along?

A curious mind want to know.

I understand my thoughtful question may cause thought police action,
but I’m cool with that too.

Colquitt beats WR, and at least by 10 points. No one has run the ball on Colquitt this season, not even Lowdnes posted huge rushing yards against the Packer D. Offensively the Packers have only stopped theirselves, no Defense has shut down that offense, and it will not happen in Moultrie tonight.

Cherokee is a nice place to watch the game being that close to the field…But 2 negatives:

1) No Cheerleaders to stir up the crowd…they have to be on either end and not in front of the visitors stands…

If Walton beats Lassiter (and they will), & Milton beats Roswell (which they can), who is the favorite to win 6-AAAAA?
And…does it even matter who finishes 1-2, because either way, both teams would avoid North Gwinnett & P’tree Ridge in the 1st rnd of the play-offs.

After that, the 6-AAAAA teams will get waxed anyway, so I guess it’s kind of irrelevant except for local bragging rights.

Black and Gold24: If what you’re saying is correct & I have no reason to doubt you, then Warner Robins is in for a long night. They simply can not throw the ball. Stop the run & you beat the Demons. It has been that way in the past, it is now & will be in the future. Outside of Bob Davis (son of the coach), when has Warner Robins had a QB that could throw?

Cannon – I agree Cherokee is a great place to watch a game since you are so close to the field especially on the Visitor’s side. You can hear just about everything the coaches are saying on the sideline… too much somtimes for the sensitve ears.

The negative about the cheerleaders is true, but what bldg are you talking about? I have been to many a football game for Etowah and there is no bldg blocking the view. The bleachers are low to the ground and that can cause some sight line problems.

Todd: Nice preview on the Marist vs. SWD game. You noted that both schools have produced a lot of D-I players. Here is something that might surprise even you — both teams have produced the same number of NFL players, but Marist has the most currently in the NFL (and indeed Marist currently has among the most players in the NFL as any high school in the country). I may be totally missing the boat here, but this Colquitt county team is better than what most are giving them credit for. Lowdnes put up their points on the Packers, because of turnovers and the short field. Lowdnes drove the field once on the Packers all night. This defense is physical, I believe that anyone that has seen these guys play know that they are for real. I will say it again, Warner Robins will not stuff the ball down the Packers throat. This will be a great matchup tonight.

They returned to the Palace and destroyed Valdosta Wildcats. The Eagles maya be the TOP DOG now but you have the toughest games remaining. I will have to agree. Mark Crews and his staff are perhaps the worst coaches I’ve seen in a decade. They have pretty decent talent but they don’t seem to know how to coach the boys up. The kids have digressed under Crews and the boys. The defense is horrible. They have an offense led by a quarterback that’s horrible. He is the worst in the league. I would hope that the college scouts are not that gullible. The McClane and the Moore’s probably cost Brookwood a chance at a championship….. Dacula 35 – Brookwood 7…..

EagleNationRising

Northside is in a “trap game” tonight in Tift County. All Eagle fans need to travel to Tifton and support our young Eagles. This is the type of game where young players can look ahead and get caught in the crossfires of a proud program with nothing to lose. I expect the Blue Devils to put their heels in the ground tonight.

Warner Robins 28, Colquitt 7. I do not know how to make this any clearer. Warner Robins is literally going to get on a bus, go to Moultrie, and display to the state of Georgia what Warner Robins football is all about. Warner Robins has done everything to prepare for this kind of a finish. Colquitt County, Northside, and Lowndes County posters should be on “Big Red alert.” Warner Robins is big and physical. Their defense is as good as Northside’s or Lowndes County’s. They are one dimensional on offense. However, they can still WIN the region. Colquitt County gets a reality check tonight.

Stephenson 21, Union Grove 7. Stephenson continues to disprove the critics with another easy win over a Region 2-AAAAA foe.

McEachern 35, Harrison 7. McEachern sends a message to everyone in the state willing to pay attention to a team averaging nearly 43 points per game in a very good region. My instincts tell me that it is going to be worse. However, I have respect for Harrison. I would not be shocked if McEachern “Peachtree Ridges” Harrison, juest because they can. It might get nasty for the Hoyas tonight.

North Gwinnett 17, North Forsyth 14. Bells of a State Championship ring in the heads of Bulldog fans and Bob Sphire as NG beats only the second Georgia opponent with a winning record during this season…both with at least 3 losses by the time we are eating breakfast on Saturday morning. Make sure you purchase, “How to Schedule Cupcakes” by Bob Sphire…in paperback.

Hillgrove 35, Hiram 14. It is officially girl’s basketball season in all of Paulding County after Hiram’s dreams are squashed by a very talented team from Hillgrove.

Hmmmm..T.C.: I looked at the brackets. It appears that if Northside wins Region 1 and Grayson wins Region 8 and Lowndes is Region 1 #2, Camden would play Lowndes in game 2 most likely so one of them will be eliminated after week 2. That game would be at Camden. Northside and Lowndes would be on opposite sides of the brackets so they wouldn’t meet until the championship game provided both make it that far.

Vikes69: HoCo is playing like a middle school program. I would not even waste my time on that game. You can go to the following site: http://www.wnngthepatriot.com/News-Talk_WNNG,_The_Patriot_(AM/wnng_streaming.html. You should be able to hit the Warner Robins Demon icon and it will go to their radio broadcast of the game.

Plowboy: What evidence shows you that Colquitt County is prepared to compete against the top teams in the region? Did you listen to a Rush Propst press conference. Alabama football is not close to Georgia football from top to bottom. This guy Propst is a legend in his own mind. Lowndes County VIOLATED Colquitt County. Warner Robins runs a similar offense. It baffles me that you simply assume that this guy, Propst, has figured out how to stop the Wing T. Either you get it like the coaches at Grayson and Warner Robins or you do not get it like the coaches at Colquitt County and Peachtree Ridge. Colquitt is not prepared to stop Warner Robins. You will see. Last season Lowndes County put up 51 points on Colquitt. Warner Robins scored 39 points and their team was not good last season. Lowndes put up 30 on Colquitt. I expect Warner Robins to have no problems scoring tonight.

NHS Eagle Fan and ENR, I hear what you are saying, and all the chest thumping in the world about Warner Robins football, will not change the result on the field. Sorry but the Packers will send the Demons, and the Bears back to Houston county with a loss, then you can flip a coin to pick the winner of NSWR and Colquitt.

Viking Dad: It is great to see that you are alive and have crawled from under your Lowndes County rock of pride. I was afraid that you had choked on crow or something. Look, everyone knows that Lowndes County is a great program. The fact that they struggle on the road, doesn’t mean that the Vikings are not clearly one of the the best programs in the nation. Most road games a long trips. Valdosta is practically North Florida. We understand. That is why most Eagle posters correctly believed that Northside was going to beat any team that had been on a bus for two hours. The MAC is too loud and too intimidating for the average high school kid to ride a bus for hours and then have the resolve to win there.

You are going to have to give a little respect to a program that is 115-12 since the turn of the century!!! You are going to have to give a little respect to a program that has been Nationally ranked for the past four straight season. You do know that football is really big in Warner Robins, GA. You do know that winning is really big in Warner Robins. It is not an accident that the most powerful Georgia senator in history is from Houston County. It is not an accident that the Governor of Georgia is from Warner Robins. It is not an accident that Warner Robins athletes win big in Little League (baseball and softball…the only city to ever accomplish the feat). Winning is a way of life in Warner Robins.

You have to clearly know that it is not be chance that Northside has not lost at McConnell-Talbert since 2004 or lost at the MAC to a visiting team since in the regular season since September 20, 1996. Come on Viking Dad, you are better than that.

The truth is Northside is in rebuilding mode, which is reloading mode. We have a few senior starters. However, all of our primary players are sophomores and juniors. Therein, lies a problem for the entire Peach State. Our kids are still learning the spread offense. It was evident when we played Lowndes County, as we drove down the field every time we used it. When we took the lead, Coach Nix went back to a power I set. Something tells me that Northside’s Resident Football Genius has something up his sleeve. The future is NOW at Northside!

Don’t worry VikingDad. Northside will be out of the region soon. You will not have to hide and live in fear of Northside for very much longer.

BlackandGold24: You are absolutely correct! Football games are won on the field, not in chat rooms. There is no doubt about that. I just wanted you to know what train is headed your way.

Black&Gold, you know that I love our Northside Eagles. I mean this honestly. I will not be surprised if Warner Robins wins the region or finishes in second place. I know that you are laughing. However, I have seen these guys from Warner Robins play. I think their brand of football is VERY boring. However, I think their brand of football is hard to beat. Colquitt County has NEVER beaten their smashmouth (Wing T) brand of football under Rush Propst. Furthermore, the Packers have not even been competitive against such offenses giving up 40 or 50+ points. Travel is the only thing that is going to stop Warner Robins from really embarassing Colquitt. That is why I am saying Warner Robins 28, Colquitt County 7.

I could be wrong. I just think that Warner Robins has played and competed against Grayson already. If you can get on a bus and compete against Grayson, why would you struggle against Colquitt County? I just don’t see it. I think Grayson is better than every team in our Region, including Northside, Lowndes County, Valdosta, and Colquitt County. I could be wrong. However, I think Warner Robins has played the best and will beat every team that does not play up to those standards. The Valdosta game was a series of misfortunes for Warner Robins. The soundly outplayed Valdosta. They are going to outplay Colquitt County too.

You are correct, Black & Gold 24. Games are played and won on the field of play. Chat rooms mean nothing. Of course, in our world we can only look at what has been done on the field.

On the field Warner Robins has already played at the best team in the state and arguably the nation by playing at Grayson. On the field, Warner Robins runs a wing T offense. It is boring to me, but it is hard to stop. On the field, Colquitt County has displayed an inability to stop the offense and given up huge yards in points to the teams that run the wing T (Lowndes County and Warner Robins) over the past year.

In a chat room, there is no reason to believe that Colquitt coaches are going to magically figure out how to stop the offense. Furthermore, it is even more unlikely that Colquitt players are going to know what to to. It is going to be a long and hard night.

I really believe that Warner Robins can win Region 1-AAAAA. I know that you are laughing. However, to assume that they are going to finish 5th is wild speculation. In my view, it is more likely that Warner Robins will finish somewhere between 1 and 3. Those who underestimate Warner Robins, who has already played the best team in the state, are fooling themselves.

I tease Todd Holcomb for drinking the Peachtree Ridge Kool-Aid. I have drank the Warner Robins Kool-Aid.

ENR: Evidently you do not read the history books. When Warner Robins & Northside win as many state titles as Valdosta & Lowndes, then your posts may have validity. Believe it or not, the sun does not rise and shine on NSWR as you would have it believe. With a team that has won over 100 games, you would expect them to win more than 2 STATE titles! Just because you beat Lowndes this year, don’t go wearing yourself out patting yourself on the back. (Disclaimer-I did not go to HS in Georgia, My wife is a WRHS grad, but that’s beside the point.) There is a reason they call Valdosta Winnersville. Did you not see the special on ESPN last year? Well, we might as well cancel the rest of the season & anoint MIGHTY NSWR STATE CHAMPS.

ENR No doubt this is a huge game for both Colquitt and WR. I agree that WR is a very solid team, they proved that with Grayson. I am simply saying these Packers are for real. I have been watching 1AAAAA football for years and have seen some of the better Packer teams of the 90’s, and these guys are getting there, if not already there. I believe that any of the top 4 teams from this region will beat 75% of the other teams in the Playoffs.

SouthGARules: I am not of the opinion that State Championships in the 1940s, 1950s, 1960s are something to do cartwheels about, due to skewed school attendance policies. Society was not represented by the people who were crowned state champions. Those state championships really do not apply to football today in the state of Georgia. For a matter of fact, since the state playoff format was changed comparing State Championships prior to 1990 is similar to comparing a playoff run in MLB today, with multiple rounds of playoff series, to the old days of MLB when a team won the pennant based upon their regular season record and only two teams made the playoffs which were the World Series. You are comparing apples and oranges.

Today, Grayson is a better program than Clarke Central. Grayson has no state championships. Nonetheless, they are a better program on and off of the field than Clarke Central, a traditional power. Grayson is better at this moment. Today, at this moment, Lowndes County is a better program than Valdosta. The Vikings have better facilities. They have better coaches. They have better players. It is not even close. Valdosta has more state titles. Valdosta is not better at any level of a high school football program than programs like Lowndes County or Northside today. Northside is better than Warner Robins. Peachtree Ridge is better than Parkview. I could go on and on.

Valdosta HS does not win in anything…not one sport…not one GHSA event. We can get involved in some sort of pissing contest. However, if your wife really went to Warner Robins, she will inform you that Northside has won multiple GHSA State Championships in many areas. The success on the football field is more recent.

Since our school opened in 1963, Northside High School has more GHSA State Champinonships trophies at our high school than Warner Robins, Valdosta, Lowndes County, Colquitt County, Coffee, Houston County, and Tift County combined over the same period of time. WE ARE THE WINNERS! End of story.

Northside has 27 different GHSA State Championship trophies that sit in our high school over the past 51 years. You are simply familier with two recent football state championships. I do not believe that you can say that about Lowndes County or Valdosta or any other one dimensional (football only) school within 100 square miles of Valdosta. Find 27 GHSA State Championships at Valdosta and Lowndes County (COMBINED) and get back to me.

I do not want to hear about Winnersville. That is a 1970s PR campaign that does not resonante in today’s world.

By the way, I would be SHOCKED if Northside won the GHSA state championship in football this year, since our team is loaded with 15 year old starters. I would be equally as shocked if Northside did not win the GHSA One Act, State Literary, or Debate state championships. That is because as the sun rises in the east, Northside wins GHSA State Championships.

Unfortunately, for schools like Lowndes County and Valdosta, you better win in football or you chances to compete on the big stage dimishes SIGNIFICANTLY. Can you imagine Lowndes County or Valdosta winning the GHSA State Literary Championship? That is laughable! It is why you guys from Valdosta hate Northside so much. We have destroyed the one dream you have of winning at the highest level of competition in this state. Football is just one of many GHSA events that Northside Eagles expect to compete in.

That is correct. You are welcome to combine the school’s GHSA state championships together. Keep in mind that Northside HS is smaller than either Valdosta or Lowndes County.

Take the approximately 4700+ students who attend Valdosta HS and Lowndes County HS. Heck you can throw in another 4000+ from Coffee HS and Colquitt County HS. I will take the approximately 1900 students who attend Northside HS. I can find students who compete for GHSA State Championships in a variety of areas and show documentation for 27 GHSA State Championship trophies that sit at Northside High School in Warner Robins, GA

You find just 20 GHSA State Championships at Lowndes County, Valdosta HS, Coffee, and Colquitt County combined. Heck, you can even throw in Tift County HS. Let’s have this conversation, Mr. Winnersville.

Just a few years ago conrad nix was about to be run out of town b/c Ns had all this talent, but no state titles…it was said he couldnt win the big game. Besides some punctuation and overall tact, your so eloquently stated analysis was missing another “tid-bit.” You mentioned the losses in ‘96 and ‘04, but surreptitiously evaded the “glorious” season of 2003. An undefeated regular season situated the eagles at #2 in AAAAA, between Camden Co. and Parkview (who just so happened to win the 3 previous state titles). In the second round of the playoffs, the “always physical” and talent laden eagles (led by a top QB prospect) faced the unknown Newnan Cougars at the imposing MAC. Northside’s quarterback wanted to quit football by the end of the 1st quarter, and Newnan punished the eagles relentlessly. 24-0. 1 pick given up. 1 Fumble lost. One pick 6 for Tift called back by penalty. QB also fumbled another time but NHS recovered. So in a quarter and a half, 2 real turnovers that could have been 4. Sloppy with the penalties too.

I bet Nix goes with his backup QB soon. Brunt was VERY green going into this year and had a problem with nerves. He pulled him in the first game for a couple of quarters, then put him back in and he was fine. Unfortunately, that may be whats needed right now.

Cant see the calls but it certainly sounds like a lot of flags. Usually this broadcast crew is pretty legit and calls a spade a spade, and they are starting to get pretty frustrated. Between both teams that is probably 12-15 penalties.

IMO, Tift is playing too conservative right now. They should be going for the throat. Northside has played as ugly and sloppy as possible and are still only 2 TD’s and conversions away from being ahead. Tift got their 13 point lead and have kind of backed off the perimeter run game. Not what I would do if I was their coach.

It will be interesting to see if Nix is able to pull this one off too. This whole season has been all on Nix IMO. People can say young doesnt mean anything(as I have seen on this forum), but this Northside team was WAY more green than we were used to. Anyone who has ever coached on any level understands the importance of having guys who have been there and done that. Hats off to Nix on being undefeated up to this point. I certainly didnt expect it this year. Hope he does his thing some more in these last 2 quarters.

Well, the secret to Northside (or Warner Robins in their hayday) is the Air Force Base. We kind of do our own pooling of players from a smaller pool. When a great athletes parents get stationed at Robins, they typically ask where they need to move (which part of town) based on which team is the biggest contender. Thats why its so hard to get over the hump. Right now Northside has it.

Even if they lose to South, as long as they beat Parkview, the Broncos will be the #4 seed by virtue of beating Parkview. South will be the #2 seed unless Brookwood wins out, which would have South, Brookwood & Dacula with 6-2 records. Dacula has Berkmar & Meadowcreek left, so they should be no worse than #3 seed.

G-Lion: I saw the Marist vs. SWD game. Refs made some petty unsportsmanlike conduct calls against Marist — just kids being kids after a big play, not really taunting. Did not make same calls against SWD. But, Marist can’t blame the refs — just can’t put yourself in that position in a big game.

It was a good game. Weather sucked, especially in 2d half after SWD’s impressive opening drive. Both teams are very fast and very good. Someone on the board suggested it was a beat down. Hardly. Marist led 7-6 at half, but mistakes and penalities killed it in the 2d half. Ken Malcome played great. Both of these teams are legit contenders for state title.

Dude, you really need to get a life. This is a game, played by kids, and everyone has their tradition and pride and history and so on. The fact of the matter is that it is settled every week on the field in the spirit of competition and sportsmanship. The fan that said that Colquitt County is good as the teams from the 90s
you are correct this team that i have been talking about is a championship caliber team; but if you are from the moultrie area then you know what I am talking about then when it comes to the Packers of
Moultrie. Colquitt County is a dangerous team ask Lowndes even though
Lowndes won; even thier coach said quote, “Colquitt is going to Surprise some people.” because the Packers ran the ball all over Lowndes but to make crucial fumbles (5) in the red zone within 5 yards
of the touchdown. So Now I think Colquitt County has now started to get back it’s respect among the elite.

Great game last night between roswell and milton. The score did not indicate how close the game was throughout. Both defenses were very physical. Milton quarterback and receievers were very good and were matchup problems for roswell all night. Roswell starting qb play was and continues to be not very good. Roswell line and linebackers really played well in the 2nd half. I honestly worry about having to win the last 2 games on the road against walton and lassitter. Beating walton mighht be realistic, but with our starting quarterback play, its unlikely that we run the table unless the defense carries us. Defense wins championships anyway, right??? ProudViking: I live in Atlanta, GA, recently rated as the top singles’ city in the United States. My Friday nights include high school football and then “socializing” on many of my weekend evenings. You may be unaware due to the fact that most restaurants are closed after the high school football games in Valdosta. In Atlanta, many social outlets are just beginning to open.

I had a wonderful opportunity to see a really good football team, maybe great team, at McEachern. I had to see a team averaging over 43 points per game in person. Since I was in Cobb County, I decided to stop by an area called Vinings, just west of Buckhead.

All of you married guys in the suburbs, please stay out there. There are homewreckers in this city. Trust me. You guys watch the high school game and go home. There are guys in the city that will represent you on the Atlanta social circuit.

ProudViking, why are you looking for me? Colquitt beat Warner Robins. OK, I overestimated the sense of urgency at Warner Robins HS. I thought that the Demons might have a little pressure with what appears to be their playoff lives on the line. I do not know what back-to-back seasons without reaching the playoffs means to Warner Robins head coach Bryan Way. Way does have a 2004 State Championship at Warner Robins. Still, the losing is piling on. The Demons still have a chance. I don’t see it though.

FYI: If anyone doubts the McEachern Indians, reevaluate your naysaying. I had an opportunity to see McEachern live. By the way, that is a really, really nice high school campus. The place looks like a small college. As for football, if there is a better offensive football team in the state of Georgia, I would like to see it. These guys are averaging over 43 points per game and can really do what they want to do on offense.

Yes, Harrison is in s down season and it was certainly a down week. However, I have watched some top tier teams in Georgia. When you see Northside play, their defense has a confidence as though they can stop anyone. If you ever have an opportunity to sit behind the Camden County sideline, you will see the same with their defense. The Lowndes County offense has a pep in there step with optimum confidence. McEachern can score any time they step on the field and they know it.

The AJC has had a regular new flavor of the month. Why they have not simply sat still on the Grayson bandwagon is a little surprising. However, I just do not see any team that can stop McEachern from scoring. They have super athletes. It is like watching Stephenson or Lowndes County. The athletes just keep coming. MCEACHERN IS THE REAL DEAL. :-) You heard it from me.

***Northside posters I told you that the Tift County game was a “trap game.” I just knew it. Young teams rarely have their minds right throughout the entire season. We can only be happy that it happened against Tift County, instead of Lowndes County, Carver-Columbus, or Valdosta. It is actually a blessing in disguise. They should be ready for Warner Robins, Colquitt County, and the playoffs. As always, it is great to be a Northside Eagle. That was a nice “character game” for our young Eagles! :-)

EagleNationRising

October 24th, 2009

Dustin: The only team that could possibly outscore McEachern is Lowndes County, Stephenson, or maybe (I stress maybe) Newnan. Of course, you NEVER know what is happening down in Kingsland with Camden County. The AJC will not spread the word. Therefore, I will. Without becoming an East Paulding poster and riding someelse’s bandwagon, I do not see a team that can not regularly score 28-35 points beating the Indians. Their offense is sick.

Defense is the only question mark with the McEachern team. How they respond to playing a top tier defense in the state playoffs will be interesting. Will McEachern hang their heads if have three or four straight 3 and outs? Will the McEachern defense be able to respond consistently if they have to stay on the field? Those are questions that will be answered. However, the Indians are serious!!!

No Cobb County school has won a state championship in football since Marietta High School since 1967. There are some good teams in Cobb this year. We will see.

Warner is history unless the Cats can’t beat the worse 2 teams in the region to close out the year.

Colquit will give Northside all they want and if Northside lets Warner take to much out of their sails the previous week, then look out.

I see Northside winning the region in a close one though.

McEachern….we’ll have to wait and see what happens when they play some teams that don’t routinely give up more than 10-17 pts. a gaeme
and are used to scoring 35 plus points a game themselves.

I still doubt the McEachern defense.

Offense gets everybody excited about championships, but defense wins championships.

North Georgia I was at the Colquit/Lowndes game and we obviously saw 2 different games. But you keep on thinking what it is you want to think.

Having said that, Colquit has a fine team and any one trying to match up to them should be concerned. Travel will end up being Colquit’s achiles heel in the playoffs. After the long ride to Northside the last week they then are looking at 5 more straight weeks of 3 to 6 hour bus rides.

Unless you can pull off the Northside upset at the Mac and then who knows how the region will seed from there.

ENR, it was just a few short years ago that North Gwinnett was scoring at will also. They ran a spread offense with a farce of a quarterback that everyone in Atlanta hailed as the next Joe Montana. I kept telling Todd Holcomb and his cronies that Mikey would not be recruited by a major program and he wasn’t. Anyway, NG was the pride and joy of the metro and was scoring 40 and 50 a game until they came to the Concrete Palace. Since you are the statistical genius that you are, do you recall the result? Sorry if this winds up being a double post but it hasn’t shown up yet.

SERIOUS GRAYSON HATER, were you at the game? Didn’t think so. I was and Coach Conn did everything he could short of just handing Meadowcreek the ball on every Grayson possesion. With all due respect for the Meadowcreek players for doing the best they can, it is a crying shame about their program. For a 5A school, it looked like they were lucky to field 30 players – some of whom were so small they had to be freshmen. There were maybe 50 people on the Meadowcreek side of the stadium. The band came out and while small was awesome! Long and short, there just doesn’t seem to be a lot of support for football and I agree that it is time to look at moving them down in classification until they can bring the program back. It is just not fair to the kids playing their heart out.

Grayson never punted. We turned the ball over on downs to give them a shot. 2nd string was in and playing midway through the 2nd quarter. It was raining off and on all night and yet I always saw Grayson players with clean uniforms coming in. That says they were definately not starters and had not been in the game. None of us in the stands could understand why the running clock was not in effect in the 3rd quarter. Are we just supposed to tell our kids not to try? Even the 2nd and 3rd string? Ean Pemberton had his jersey and pads off with 4-5 minutes still to go in the 2nd period. Our big defensive players were standing on the steps to watch instead on playing. On kickoffs, our kicker who consistantly kicks them 5 yards deep in the end zone was taking 3 steps and kicking to about the Meadowcreek 35. He is stong enough that on the first PAT, he kicked it over the net in the endzone and bounced it over the top of the fieldhouse into the parking lot on the far side of the building! It could have easily been 100 – 0 had Coach Conn wanted it to be.

Meadowcreek had several players going both ways out of necessity. I point all of the above out not to trash talk them but just to point out that #1, Grayson tried hard not to run the score up and #2, Meadowcreek in their current state does not need to be in 5A. Nothing is accomplished in having the kids come out and do the best they can and have these kinds of results.

Lets put McEacherns most likely playoff run to the state championship into perspective.

1st round – 4th seed region 8
2nd round – loser of North Gwinnett/Peachtree Ridge
3rd round – winner of Lowndes/Camden
4th round – winner of Newnan/Grayson
State Championship – winner of Northside/North Gwinnett/Colquit/Stephenson

Good luck McEachern because you will be facing a gauntlet of teams
that do know how to play defense and can run with your offense
and will hit you in the mouth and make you think twice before you
attempt to catch the next pass.

And most of them play just a little offense too and are very capable of putting up some serious points themselves.

@SERIOUS GRAYSON HATER – I have tried twice with somewhat lengthy explainations for the score but they did not get through for some reason. I’ll make it short and say that Grayson did everything short of coming off the field totaly to keep the score down. The Meadowcreek kids just couldn’t keep up. The program really needs to get some help. It is a shame that a 5A school cannot generate more interest in the football program.

As to your other comment, some of the kids probably are rednecks based on the trucks in the parking lot but I really doubt any of them are hillbillies! :)

Good job Stephenson, your running backs ran hard and they fought for extra yardage, great team and band. I cannot for the life of me figure out why we did not use our playmaker #5. You cannot run east/west on a team with the speed Stephenson has. We were in the game until midway 3rd quarter when we came up short on 4th down, it went south from there. Defense played hard but you have to stay home on those corners.

Stone Mountain understands NO STRUGGLE, NO PROGRESS. We still focused on this journey. 10-30 in the previous four years and our kids are taking on a winners mentality quickly with key players returning next year. Might be because key players are on our basketball team that has tasted some success. But keeping watching THE BIG THREE (SWD, Marist, and Tucker) we have more to do. There is so much more football to be played.

Here is a summary of the terrible loss: (1) #5 who just got offered by Ga. Tech Thursday got maybe 3 touches all game. (2) #20 who punished the Stephenson defense the entire 1st half did not touch the ball much in the 2nd half. (3) The coach wanted the parents to stay away from practice because he did not want them to distract the kids because this was such a big game and he wanted them to be focused – FOCUSED NOW COACH? (4) We made no adjustments at half time and went back to the idiotic play calling that we have done all season that these talented young men have had to play through. (5) We did not open up the playbook like the boys were told because????????????? WHO KNOWS BUT THE COACH!! These kids deserved better than this from their coach and was absolutely FAILED by him and there should be some consequences behind this incompetence.

Question for those in the know a Stephenson. I saw number 56 go down with an injury in the game. What happened? Was it a cheap shot or not? Also, is that kid ok? I know he did not return to the game. Hopefully it was nothing serious and that he is good to go. Also, what about the RB that was hurt late in the 4th?

UG, your team looked good early; all of the misdirection and “trick” plays seemed to keep SHS in check, but once they started playing assignment football, your night was over.

GREAT GAME JAGS! Also, great showing by the “Sonic Sound” band from SHS

Since Mays beat Villa Rica, Villa Rica beat Banneker, and Banneker beat Mays, how does that work out for the #1 and #2 in 5-BAAAA?

The Grove – Let’s not put all the blame on the coaches. The fact is we got beat by a much better team. We got beat all night on the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. The coaches did make some big mistakes but we just simply don’t have the same kind of play makers that Stephenson does. Oh by the way I loved the way #20 showed the quaterback up on the sideline when we didn’t get him the ball in the second half. Some people need to realize that footbal is a team sport!

PLEASE tell me why #5 who is absolutely our biggest play maker did not touch the ball. I am having a hard time with that one today and why we quit giving it to #20. Truth is #20 was getting positive yards going north and south. Everyone knows (well almost everyone) knows that a team cannot run east/west on a team with a lot of speed UNLESS the running team has tremendous lead blocking, we did not. When Stephenson ran to the outside they did have a good lead blocker who did his job well. Stephenson you have a good team but as you could see our guys were not the least bit intimidated; kudos to your coaching staff who did a better job at play calling than we did. Our first drive of the game was awesome but things started going wrong in the 3rd quarter when we went for it on 4th and 4, we felt like the refs spotted the ball short, about an inch too short. We proved that we did have the moxy and talent to play on the same field as a nationally ranked team; we fell short in the coaching department.

To all the Union Grove fans sorry that parents and boosters can’t make play decisions. Of course you all have some good athletes, but it all boils down to the coaches trying to please your kids when they play football. Yes no.5 No. 20. No. 71. No. 63 they are good players along with some who didn’t play in the game against Stephenson, but the fact of the matter until you let those African Americans players play at some of those skills positions and not let your personal feelings come into play and say (my son deserve to be out there), then Union Groove will always be a second or third tier team. Face it Union Grove your team is only going to be as good as your players and coaches. If I were the coach, I would put in more plays for No.5 and No. 20 and not worry about you parents because you want a balance of both blacks & whites on the field and you don’t want to blacks kids to get more publicity than white kids. you all don’t want to hear it buts it’s the truth and whether you like it or not just ask some of players on the team. This is not a disrespectful comment but this is what I heard being said by some of your players and parents

Black Angel, you are trying to make this a black and white issue and I don’t think that is the case at all. Donovan Johnson is black and he got the ball more in the second half than anyone else. I don’t remember any white kids getting the ball in the second half, do you? In all honesty I have heard that our QB’s dad is HUGE in the booster club and that is why he gets the call ahead of #5. Take black and white out of this, bottom line is that our play makers are #5, #20 and #4. I agree that we needed to throw the ball some to loosen up their defense but we needed to pound them with our running game and we didn’t.

You might need some help so what you do is take the first number and put it over the second number, draw a line under it and put a plus (+) sign to the left, get your total then take the next number and add to that total and so on until you get a grand total. The only year MLK didnt make the playoffs was their 1st year and they have only lost in the first round once. Outside Lookin in, do you know where Henry or Dutchtown is in relation to Union Grove? Most of the students that attend Union Grove live within a certain radius of the school just like the Henry County students do. They had to redraw the lines to alleviate some of the overcrowding at Union Grove. We had trailers everywhere and one problem that we were having is we had a lot of students going to Union Grove who did not live in our district. I realize that when your school is rated in the top 5 to 6% of high schools in the nation everyone wants to be there. I hated it when we lost all those students to Woodland. They have a pretty good football program going to be as young as they are. I can only imagine how much better we would be if we hadn’t lost them. At one time we were exploding with growth but not anymore. We could probably do away with one of the schools and redistribute the kids out to different schools. It just frustrated me because we are talking strictly football here but some people want to make it a black/white issue like Black Angel did earlier. White and Black folks are more than welcome to move inside the Union Grove school district. We don’t have any rules that say they can’t. One last thing, I cannot imagine when they redrew the lines they were going hey, draw the line around this house because black folks live there.

I know u guys are having a heated “debate” about ur respective teams and all, but my opinion is this: Stephenson won the game. Plain and simple. Nobody is trying to say that Union Grove is a horrible team. But at the same time, UG has a valid point. This is about Stephenson and Union Grove.. not SWD and not MLK. We all know Dekalb county is pretty good in football.. We ALL know this.. But I really wish u guys would stop focusing on the past. There is no way tht Union Grove can take tht win away from Stephenson unless they did sumthin illegal which i kno they didnt.. Jus focus on the playoffs. Thats all you guys can do.. At the end of the season we shall who goes all the way and who is sitting at home watching on tv. Good Luck to both of your teams…

It is pretty laughable that UG fans would be ragging on Stephenson. Yes, Stephenson has not won a state championship, but they are several million like years ahead of Union Grove. Whatever UG says, they will always be a bottom-feeder. Regardless, I am sure more coaches in the state would rather not play SWD, Stephenson or MLK in the playoffs than Union WHO? Look at Stephenson, SWD and MLK’s playoff losses and they are definitely not against no names. JUST face it, Union WHO? has never beaten any one of these teams, and from the looks of it, probably never will. It is amazing that these teams can come into the season and garner respect from coaches and media poll, while Union WHO? has to wait until they play one of these schools before they are rightfully declared no good. Union WHO?, you had your 48 minutes of fame for this season, give it up and worry about Newton, and avoiding a loooooooooong, and embarrassing trip to Camden County. I went to school at Stephenson and now live in Henry County. I was at the game Saturday night as a football fan. UG kids played their hearts out and have nothing to hang their heads about. At the end of the day its only one loss. I know they have put it behind them and will be ready to play Friday night. UG is a quality program. They should consider taking the advice from an earlier post and schedule tougher teams for their non-region games. No knock against Vigor but there are probably 20 teams in Ga Class AAAAA that could beat them. You need to be tested early and often every year so that you know where you need improvement before the tougher region and playoff games. I went to school at Stephenson and now live in Henry County. I was at the game Saturday night as a football fan. UG kids played their hearts out and have nothing to hang their heads about. At the end of the day its only one loss. I know they have put it behind them and will be ready to play Friday night. UG is a quality program.

Thanks. and I was looking at the projected playoff teams.. Stephenson and Union Grove are pretty much going to make it to the second round guaranteed since your going to be paired up with region 3. Im a student at Savannah State and trust me: I’ve seen these high schools in savannah play. Not to take anything from camden county but i see exactly why they win the region every year.

AJC SPORTS, I must take the side of my estranged brother “YO” in asking about all of the political correctness here in 2009 GHS football. Sometimes politics play a HUGE role in the outcome of games in GHS football. Take the officials in GHS football as an example.I wish someone here would take the time to explain to me how home grown officiating is tolerated by the GHSA. Transfers as well. I believe these are valid points of concern and yet the GHSA seems spineless in becoming proactive in addressing these issues. What about “wrong calls” by the officials resulting in a suspension of a player not only for the game at hand, but for the following week as well? Has any wrong call by an official EVER been over-turned on appeal? I don’t think so. This post is about GHS football politics, not politics in general. Hope you will post it and hope I will get some legitimate responses.

Carver-Col Fan, 30-0 Carver, right? It probably should be that if not more. When you look at the depth and size of the Carver roster, they should be able to play with anyone in the SEC. Is there ANY team in the state in ANY classification with players as big and fast as those at Carver? Don’t think so.
Lucky for Coach McGee he has the best athletes in all of Muscogee County.(somewhere between 11,000-12,000). Yet the Carver enrollment has dropped below 1,000 in 2009 due to poor testing results academically. Where are all of the super stars recruited by Dell McGee now? In 2007, I believe Carver had no less than 15 players with college offers. Again, “where are they now?” An even bigger question is, “What has happened to all of the other Muscogee County schools?” (Shaw, Hardaway, Northside, etc.) Answer: “All of the best athletes in Muscogee County are attending Carver”. It saddens me to think that these kids who transfer to Carver to have a moment “in the sun” are giving up the rest of their lives due to the poor academic standards. Check it out. Carver-Col rates in the lower 10 in the state in terms of combined SAT scores. As for the game, the Grangers have the better team. They will win, provided the officials do not play a major role in the game.

Slalom1: I know of two times where the GHSA has overturned an officials call. One happened a couple years ago with either Norcross or Dacula (not sure which one, but know it involved one of the Maloof brothers). Forget the details, but I know a few minutes of the game had to be replayed. The first time I know of was in the 1975 state semifinals involving Lakeside-DeKalb and Douglass. Again, forgot the complete details, but GHSA ruled that a few seconds of that game had to replayed because of officials error. If Todd Holcomb is reading, please refresh my memory on that one. That Douglass-Lakeside game is still a sour spot for many that were associated with that program back then.

I’m glad that I will only have to sit through 2 more games of Crews, McClane and the rest of those sorry coaches mistakes. I have supported that program since i coached those senior when they were in the 6 grade and now i will never coach a BROOKWOOD team again. I’ve had enough. I sent them to the high school as winner and Crews made those kids loser. They don’t have any emotion nor fight or will to want to win. I remembered when those kids loved to play football and look what happen. He’s lost 75% of the kids that started out as GFL youth players in the 6 grade. What happened to them? What coach can’t keep at least 50% of his player? Why are there only 22 seniors left to an 8th grade class that was over a 100 in the 8th grade. Brookwood Mom, i’m sorry I offended you but did you see the game? How do you continue to make the same mistakes because of you arrogance. We all know the kid in the quarterback positin can’t quarterback and most of his receiver have to make spectacular catches to make him look good. His best passes have been to the other team’s players. How do you give someone something that he didn’t compete for? Sad thing is that because of that, those coaches son’s will sit on someone bench there entire college career if they make a team. PS. I tried to get my son to go to South but he chose to stay at Brookwood. I will support him but for the money I have invested in that program I will say what i ……. well please…….

Yes he does and for all that money that i have invested in that program all these years and this is what we get…A bunch of cronies as coaches trying to make our kids feel like loser while they are giving their son’s all the plays, all the positions and wonder why most of the kids have quit the program. Crews lost 70% of the players on the 8th grade team now are about 24 seniors… sad.. Who would want to play for a program that doesn’t compete….. the losers are your coaches… not the kids….and for my money I will do like most of the people in the community.. stop supporting them and that’s the only way Crews and his cronies will go.. Give no money to the Touchdown club and watch just how soon Crew will follow…….

Hiram should get alot more attention than they do right now. Everyone shoots them down. Before the Hillgrove game, they said that Hiram hasnt played anybody and struggled with bad teams. They beat Hillgrove Friday and are now 8-0 and still under the radar. Dont understand it.

To Big J and Go Ug… I never made this a black and white issue. It’s a fact no secret that your football program gives every advantage for whites to play before blacks.. Now if you all want to deny it I can prove it by the different students who moved away to get the chance to play football.. As I stated before I speak facts & figures your team is good but until you look at your program, coaches and boosters then please don’t make me out to be the villian.. As I stated ask some of your football players which players on the bench that DO NOT PLAY THAT SHOULD BE PLAYING AND THOSE ON THE FIELD THAT SHOULD NOT BE SUITING UP FOR A JV TEAM.

@ 31.

Trust me. Hiram isnt going to get any kinda respect until they go deep into the playoffs. The way the AJC rates teams is by their history. Lets take Camden County 4 example ( I so love this team btw). If they had never won any state championships, or been ranked nationally b4, or gotten farther than the 1st round of the playoffs, but wins their division every year, they would not be looked at because of their region opponents. Im not 100 perrcent sure on who is in your region, but it might be that your region isnt that strong. Dnt quote me on it though

i think thats the reason that u guys arent ranked. Its probably nothing personal, but I think the AJC staff is trying to wait until the playoffs to see how u guys do before they make any rankings. Go deep into the playoffs and next year u will probably be ranked.. if not then they are not goin to give u the respect tht u deserve

Blackangel – It is pretty obvious that you have no idea about things at UG. Name one good player that has moved away since our current staff has been in place. Also we seem to have a number of very good black players move in over the summer and they all are playing a big role for us. So please take your racist comments so where else becasue no one on here wants to hear it.

Close your visitor seating section for Friday’s Game. Hillgrove High School would not offer your fans a decent place to sit if you were away.

Black Angel, I know that if a Coach wants to get the very best out of what he has to work with then he MUST play the best kid in any particular position. I have seen a whole lot of daddy ball and those teams usually don’t go far. In all fairness to these coaches they may really think that they have the best kids in each position. It is easy for any of us to sit in the stands and second guess and scrutinize their decisions. Me personally, I think they should have #5 at QB, but I am not privy to all the information that they have. I am sure they have good reasons for not having him there. I would really hope that a Coach would not play a kid ahead of a better kid because his parents contributed more to the booster club, but we all know that it happens everywhere. There are white kids that sit on any given bench that are better than the kid on the field for any given reason. I don’t think this is a black/white issue.

UG Sucks, if I were you I would do a little more research before I showed any more ignorance. Union Grove beat MLK in 2002 31-12!

The Northside Eagles are the most underrated team in Georgia. They are much better than I ever imagined. I can only hope that I can be around a team as consistent as they are at some time in my zero contribution life. When I referred to britches being caught around the ankles, I was referring to a position I played with my father on several occasions.
