Go UG! Hey Bubba I didn’t mean the total number of students. I was referring to the attendance zones and the way the lines were drawn to exclude different areas. Look at the maps before you comment and then tell me why 3 schools as close together as these have such a different demographic. I’m not a racist I’m a realist. You need to keep it real as well.

Stephenson Supporter – What makes you think you can compete on a championship level. How many times have you advanced far in the playoffs? So just shut your mouth and quit making Stephenson fans look like idiots because they deserve better.

Good game UG. I know someone who starts on Stephenson’s defense. He said at half time they had to make a few ADJUSTMENTS and after that the game became much easier. He said they came out a lil flat but the coaches got on them pretty good at half time and they responded. He also said he thought UG played them better than MLK.

UG Fan, Stephenson has advanced to the quarter finals twice and the Semi finals once. SWD’s history speaks for itself and includes a State Championship. MLK a school only 8 years old has already been to the quarter finals twice, the semi finals once. The only year MLK didnt make the playoffs was their 1st year and they have only lost in the first round once. Union Grove made it as far as the Quarter finals in 2002 and was blown out 57-9 that was the only time you have been past the 2nd round. You will never be as good as the “BIG 3″…

Outside Lookin in, do you know where Henry or Dutchtown is in relation to Union Grove? Most of the students that attend Union Grove live within a certain radius of the school just like the Henry County students do. They had to redraw the lines to alleviate some of the overcrowding at Union Grove. We had trailers everywhere and one problem that we were having is we had a lot of students going to Union Grove who did not live in our district. I realize that when your school is rated in the top 5 to 6% of high schools in the nation everyone wants to be there. I hated it when we lost all those students to Woodland. They have a pretty good football program going to be as young as they are. I can only imagine how much better we would be if we hadn’t lost them. At one time we were exploding with growth but not anymore. We could probably do away with one of the schools and redistribute the kids out to different schools. It just frustrated me because we are talking strictly football here but some people want to make it a black/white issue like Black Angel did earlier. White and Black folks are more than welcome to move inside the Union Grove school district. We don’t have any rules that say they can’t. One last thing, I cannot imagine when they redrew the lines they were going hey, draw the line around this house because black folks live there.

To UG Fan and Stephenson Supporter

I know u guys are having a heated “debate” about ur respective teams and all, but my opinion is this: Stephenson won the game. Plain and simple. Nobody is trying to say that Union Grove is a horrible team. But at the same time, UG has a valid point. This is about Stephenson and Union Grove.. not SWD and not MLK. We all know Dekalb county is pretty good in football.. We ALL know this.. But I really wish u guys would stop focusing on the past. There is no way tht Union Grove can take tht win away from Stephenson unless they did sumthin illegal which i kno they didnt.. Jus focus on the playoffs. Thats all you guys can do.. At the end of the season we shall who goes all the way and who is sitting at home watching on tv. Good Luck to both of your teams…

UG Sucks

It is pretty laughable that UG fans would be ragging on Stephenson. Yes, Stephenson has not won a state championship, but they are several million like years ahead of Union Grove. Whatever UG says, they will always be a bottom-feeder. Regardless, I am sure more coaches in the state would rather not play SWD, Stephenson or MLK in the playoffs than Union WHO? Look at Stephenson, SWD and MLK’s playoff losses and they are definitely not against no names. JUST face it, Union WHO? has never beaten any one of these teams, and from the looks of it, probably never will. It is amazing that these teams can come into the season and garner respect from coaches and media poll, while Union WHO? has to wait until they play one of these schools before they are rightfully declared no good. Union WHO?, you had your 48 minutes of fame for this season, give it up and worry about Newton, and avoiding a loooooooooong, and embarrassing trip to Camden County. While there is no football championship banner at Stephenson, there are some track and field and basketball hardware in the trophy case. Union Who? show us yours.

Just Get Along: Good point. It’s over with. We all know who won and this debate will not change anything about either teams. UG has a big chance this weekend to still play for a No. 2 seed and a first round home game. A loss could seen them for that looooooong bus ride to a STATE CHAMPIONSHIP program – Camden County. Can’t worry about the shoulda, woulda and couldas because that is over.

Just get along…You are absolutely correct. It’s just a little trash talk. Union Grove is a fine school with high character kids both on and off the field. I went to school at Stephenson and now live in Henry County. I was at the game Saturday night as a football fan. UG kids played their hearts out and have nothing to hang their heads about. At the end of the day its only one loss. I know they have put it behind them and will be ready to play Friday night. UG is a quality program. They should consider taking the advice from an earlier post and schedule tougher teams for their non-region games. No knock against Vigor but there are probably 20 teams in Ga Class AAAAA that could beat them. You need to be tested early and often every year so that you know where you need improvement before the tougher region and playoff games. You won’t be undefeated every year but what’s more important advancing or having a pretty record and seasons end?

Im a student at Savannah State and trust me: I’ve seen these high schools in savannah play. Not to take anything from camden county but i see exactly why they win the region every year.

AJC SPORTS, I must take the side of my estranged brother “YO” in asking about all of the political correctness here in 2009 GHS football. Sometimes politics play a HUGE role in the outcome of games in GHS football. Take the officials in GHS football as an example.I wish someone here would take the time to explain to me how home grown officiating is tolerated by the GHSA. Transfers as well. I believe these are valid points of concern and yet the GHSA seems spineless in becoming proactive in addressing these issues. What about “wrong calls” by the officials resulting in a suspension of a player not only for the game at hand, but for the following week as well? Has any wrong call by an official EVER been over-turned on appeal? I don’t think so. This post is about GHS football politics, not politics in general. Hope you will post it and hope I will get some legitimate responses.

Carver-Col Fan, 30-0 Carver, right? It probably should be that if not more. When you look at the depth and size of the Carver roster, they should be able to play with anyone in the SEC. Is there ANY team in the state in ANY classification with players as big and fast as those at Carver? Don’t think so.
Lucky for Coach McGee he has the best athletes in all of Muscogee County.(somewhere between 11,000-12,000). Yet the Carver enrollment has dropped below 1,000 in 2009 due to poor testing results academically. Where are all of the super stars recruited by Dell McGee now? In 2007, I believe Carver had no less than 15 players with college offers. Again, “where are they now?” An even bigger question is, “What has happened to all of the other Muscogee County schools?” (Shaw, Hardaway, Northside, etc.) Answer: “All of the best athletes in Muscogee County are attending Carver”. It saddens me to think that these kids who transfer to Carver to have a moment “in the sun” are giving up the rest of their lives due to the poor academic standards. Check it out. Carver-Col rates in the lower 10 in the state in terms of combined SAT scores. As for the game, the Grangers have the better team. They will win, provided the officials do not play a major role in the game.

Slalom1: I know of two times where the GHSA has overturned an officials call. One happened a couple years ago with either Norcross or Dacula (not sure which one, but know it involved one of the Maloof brothers). Forget the details, but I know a few minutes of the game had to be replayed. The first time I know of was in the 1975 state semifinals involving Lakeside-DeKalb and Douglass. Again, forgot the complete details, but GHSA ruled that a few seconds of that game had to replayed because of officials error. If Todd Holcomb is reading, please refresh my memory on that one. That Douglass-Lakeside game is still a sour spot for many that were associated with that program back then.

I’m glad that I will only have to sit through 2 more games of Crews, McClane and the rest of those sorry coaches mistakes. I have supported that program since i coached those senior when they were in the 6 grade and now i will never coach a BROOKWOOD team again. I’ve had enough. I sent them to the high school as winner and Crews made those kids loser. They don’t have any emotion nor fight or will to want to win. I remembered when those kids loved to play football and look what happen. He’s lost 75% of the kids that started out as GFL youth players in the 6 grade. What happened to them? What coach can’t keep at least 50% of his player? Why are there only 22 seniors left to an 8th grade class that was over a 100 in the 8th grade. Brookwood Mom, i’m sorry I offended you but did you see the game? How do you continue to make the same mistakes because of you arrogance. We all know the kid in the quarterback positin can’t quarterback and most of his receiver have to make spectacular catches to make him look good. His best passes have been to the other team’s players. How do you give someone something that he didn’t compete for? Sad thing is that because of that, those coaches son’s will sit on someone bench there entire college career if they make a team. PS. I tried to get my son to go to South but he chose to stay at Brookwood. I will support him but for the money I have invested in that program I will say what i ……. well please…….

October 26th, 2009

Yes he does and for all that money that i have invested in that program all these years and this is what we get…A bunch of cronies as coaches trying to make our kids feel like loser while they are giving their son’s all the plays, all the positions and wonder why most of the kids have quit the program. Crews lost 70% of the players on the 8th grade team now are about 24 seniors… sad.. Who would want to play for a program that doesn’t compete….. the losers are your coaches… not the kids….and for my money I will do like most of the people in the community.. stop supporting them and that’s the only way Crews and his cronies will go.. Give no money to the Touchdown club and watch just how soon Crew will follow…….

Hiram should get alot more attention than they do right now. Everyone shoots them down. Before the Hillgrove game, they said that Hiram hasnt played anybody and struggled with bad teams. They beat Hillgrove Friday and are now 8-0 and still under the radar. Dont understand it.

To Big J and Go Ug… I never made this a black and white issue. It’s a fact no secret that your football program gives every advantage for whites to play before blacks.. Now if you all want to deny it I can prove it by the different students who moved away to get the chance to play football.. As I stated before I speak facts & figures your team is good but until you look at your program, coaches and boosters then please don’t make me out to be the villian.. As I stated ask some of your football players which players on the bench that DO NOT PLAY THAT SHOULD BE PLAYING AND THOSE ON THE FIELD THAT SHOULD NOT BE SUITING UP FOR A JV TEAM.

@ 31.

Trust me. Hiram isnt going to get any kinda respect until they go deep into the playoffs. The way the AJC rates teams is by their history. Lets take Camden County 4 example ( I so love this team btw). If they had never won any state championships, or been ranked nationally b4, or gotten farther than the 1st round of the playoffs, but wins their division every year, they would not be looked at because of their region opponents. Im not 100 perrcent sure on who is in your region, but it might be that your region isnt that strong. Dnt quote me on it though

Black Angel, I know that if a Coach wants to get the very best out of what he has to work with then he MUST play the best kid in any particular position. I have seen a whole lot of daddy ball and those teams usually don’t go far. In all fairness to these coaches they may really think that they have the best kids in each position. It is easy for any of us to sit in the stands and second guess and scrutinize their decisions. Me personally, I think they should have #5 at QB, but I am not privy to all the information that they have. I am sure they have good reasons for not having him there. I would really hope that a Coach would not play a kid ahead of a better kid because his parents contributed more to the booster club, but we all know that it happens everywhere. There are white kids that sit on any given bench that are better than the kid on the field for any given reason. I don’t think this is a black/white issue.

UG Sucks, if I were you I would do a little more research before I showed any more ignorance. Union Grove beat MLK in 2002 31-12!

I can only hope that I can be around a team as consistent as they are at some time in my zero contribution life.
