Time to step up: SWD, Lassiter, Union Grove, Grady

A week ago, I called it a week of reckoning for Stephenson, M.L. King and Collins Hill.

This week, it’s Southwest DeKalb, Lassiter, Union Grove and Grady.

Lassiter might get extra motivation at not being ranked again in Class AAAAA this week despite M.L. King’s loss making room in the Top 10.

The spot went to Woodstock, a team with one loss. I’m wearing armor this week in anticipation of the criticism, although come to think of it, Lassiter doesn’t complain here as much as Walton and Roswell. Nothing wrong with complaining. Just an observation.  : )

Other thoughts …

Stephenson looked great last week. Top-flight defense, a top back in Raymond Sanders. I wondered as I walked out of Hallford Stadium how many times the best back in the state (if it’s Mack Brown) has played on a team that got shut out. Then I remembered Herschel Walker’s Johnson County team in 1979 was shut out by ECI but won a state title that year. Stephenson re-jumped McEachern in the rankings this week.

Yo and Avikingfan are back in full force after sucking their thumbs down to the bone after losing to the Eagles…….It’s far from over in Region-1 ,I wouldn’t be surprised if the Vikes are on the road in the 1st round of the playoffs……. Randy Mac needs to wake up and pass more ,a good defense shut the run down and will keep the Vikes out of the End Zone. Now I am sure that Nix went over the Lowndes/Grayson game with a fine tooth comb…… And Way will do the same with both the Grayson and Northside games vs the Vikes …….As ENR would say “UPSET ALERT’ for the Vikes and the Eagles vs the Demons

To “Reeze”. The Northside bloggers keep talking about certain Dekalb teams not winning titles with all the talent they supposedly have, well let me tell you if you make 20 trips to the Dome and come away with only 2 titles, what the heck do you call that. Stop downing other programs if you dont have the “Titles” from all your trips to the Dome to back it up. I think Northside is a great program and absolutely love every time I get to see them play. But 2 titles is not a dynasty.

Decatur 4 Life, I think you speak fact but not necessarily the truth. I would guess that APS knows that the majority of people attending will only be there for one game and will casually catch part of another. It sounds better if you can call it a package deal or a bundle.
When they have multiple games at Grady or Lakewood, ticket prices are not raised. Truth probably is that they have to raise the ticket price to offset the cost of the GA Dome Authority and the loss of concessions
and HOPE to make it break even.
Turns out with the weather coming in that it will be nice to be dry and watch a game, and that will be worth the premium. But, they squandered the gate ($8 per ticket) and concessions $ they could have had if they had been ready for Grady Stadium. Who got hurt? The kids and taxpayers.

Anyway, good luck to Grady HS and St. Pius. It should be a good game no matter where it’s contested.

eagleforlife: Just curious. If you are a NSWR grad, then what in the world are you doing with a Demon sweat shirt? I know my wife (who graduated from WR before you were born (1977)) would not be caught wearing anything blue or orange. However, with some of her fellow classmates having kids at HoCo & NSWR, I’m sure its confusing.
AVikingFan: Your info is correct. Tamburo is at Boise State.

Reese – Who do you see winning regions 6 and 7? I see NSWR in Region 1, Stephenson Region 2, Camden 3, Newnan 4, McEachern 5, and Grayson in region 8.

I’ve been studying my Crystal Ball. I see Warner Robins beating Colquitt but losing to NSWR and Lowndes to finish 4-3. Valdosta will finish 4-3 also. Colquitt will also lose to NSWR and will finish 4-3. This means a three way tie. Another post explained Region 1-AAAAA’s tie breaker as points allowed among the three teams tied. Valdosta gave up 7 to Warner Robins and 14 to Colquitt for a total of 21.
Colquitt gave up 7 to Valdosta. Warner Robins agve up 14 to Valdosta. So, this means the score in Friday’s Warner Robins and Colquitt game could decide which 3rd and 4th place teams go to the playoffs from region 1-AAAAA. (I bet neither team will play their subs on defense this week.)

Hey Todd – this might make the Colquitt vs Warner Robins game the biggest in the state this week. You and ole Carvel need to ponder that.

If Union Grove unleashes the good running backs that we have in D. Johnson and T.J Moon we have a good chance at being 8-0 after the game this weekend…The offense took a hit after last year’s superb offensive line left..That’s why the ground game hasn’t been as spectacular as it was last year..defensively UG and Stephenson are evenly matched..Stephenson is loaded on D and decent on Offense..Union Grove is outstanding on D and Ok on offense..QB Ty Moore has improved but only with the help of ATH Jordan Akins..When Akins is in the game there is always potential for 6 points..Akins is the one of the best in the state and can hang with anyone (including the Jags)..we will see though..this game rides on the O-Line of UG and the speed of Stephenson..Could get interesting in a hurry

In other news, North Gwinnett is making a good run for State this year alongside NS Warner Robins..Lowndes Co. can forget it this year..not enough fire power as usual..Grayson has a good team but not a GREAT team yet..They are over-hyped and geared for a playoff upset in my opinion..im taking NSWR and North Gwinnet in State..that is “IF” my Wolverines don’t luck up and make it..God bless them and the ol’ Collinater

Long-Time Dekalb Fan I agree the the other counties don’t have a clue how lucky they are not to have to deal with DeKalb country approproations of funds. Tucker biggest weakness is who ever is calling the plays for the offense. Very predictable and not very imaginative considering the talent and speed Tucker has.

Considering the Griffin Bears strength of schedule (or lack thereof) this season, their meteoric rise to the top of the AAAA ranks seems to have some folks in a “crumpled drawers” attitude! Alcovy folks seem to be the most wrinkle-rashed with all the “what about me” (waa-waah.snif snif-waaaa) “why are we not considered in the rankings”???….PUH_LEEEEEZE… good grief Alcovy…it’s like this…Once you establish a TRADITION of Winning YEAR after YEAR and playing the BEST the State has to offer then and only then may you even be mentioned in the same sentence with the likes of GRIFFIN, SWD, BAINBRIDGE, MARIST, TUCKER, WESTSIDE MACON, NORTH CLAYTON, etc etc….just be patient…try to keep winning in your GRIFFIN OWNED region, and USE SOME OINTMENT FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!!!!! oh and by the way…when you get slammed and hear the “bear-meat” chants, don’t feel too bad about it…Lots of teams have heard it over the years, right after that Bear Claw hammer slam…they are THAT good…seriously. buy extra ointment.

HomeFieldAdvantage…………Region – 1 Northside , But its still up for grabs ,the Eagles are in the drivers seat ,but we still have the Packers and Demons in the next couple of weeks….I think Northside will get past Colquitt ,The Demons ,I don’t know …..They are a lot better than people think…they are very good against the run… As good as Lowndes is ,they may be on the road for the 1st round…..It wouldn’t surprise me if they handed Lowndes and Northside losses……….Region – 2 Stephenson…..I hear Union Grove screaming on this blog , The Grove could only muster up 80 yards of total offense vs Northside in the 2nd round last year ,I really hope the 2009 squad is better….Region 5 , MaCeahern…….It will be a couple of knock out drag outs in the first round region 5 vs 8 matchups………Region -6 , I don’t know much about this region………Region – 7 NG…..can’t get over the 51 given up to Lowndes by the Ridge……Regions 3 , 4 , 8 are no brainers

The Cannon Rules!!

October 22nd, 2009
8:59 am

Well we started the Countdown Clock and loaded the cannon a few weeks ago for McEachern and when the clock wound down, the cannon misfired and EP left the shadow of the big Injun’ in Powder Springs with a loss…

Then came Etowah and we again loaded the Cannon and wound up the countdown clock…this time the clock exploded & the cannon misfired all night as Etowah turned the cannon on EP and had us ducking and running all night long!!! EP was lucky to get out of that Eagles Nest at all, those were some VICIOUS eagles that night!!!

Then came last week and we started the countdown clock and loaded the cannon for Harrison as they came to “THE BONEYARD”…again the cannon misfired just enough and Hoya Chuck and his crew left EP with a victory!

So now comes Kennesaw Mtn. tomorrow night, don’t think this one rates the countdown clock and just hoping the Raiders from EP have enough pride to at least play a complete game this time and finish this game with a win!!!

This years team IS NOT as good as we had thought, but IT IS NOT as bad as they have played in several games this year!!! Finishing at 6/4 on the year is still doable and a good goal at this point!!! Probably not worthy of a playoff spot but it builds for next year as EP is playing with a LOT of jr. starters this season who will be back next year…

GO RAIDERS!!!

B-Nasty. You are somewhat correct in the key will be in UG’s running game. Last week we had two starters out as well as another tackle who see alot of time. I have to disagree that we lost a superb o-line from last year. They did a good job but I believe the o-line is just as good they only problem is our offense is sooooo pedictable. Let’s go out and shock the world the Saturday.

Hrmmm… there is such a thing as a humble EP Fan. ;-)

Cannon – I wouldn’t leave the cannon tradition (on this blog) behind just yet. I have rather gotten used to it and might actually miss it.

Pops – not sure where the Wolverine crew is headed except for a little worry that their heads have gotten too big with their new found (and deserved) ranking. I think Coach O’Brien will keep them grounded. To quote another rather successful coach from the North Avenue Trade School: “[They] haven’t won anything yet.”

Reeze – I would put Region 5 (McEachern) in your no-brainer category… if the Region Champ and homefield advantage for at least the first and second round are your metrics.

McEachern has already run the gauntlet in our Region and “should” win out to claim the Region title. Harrison tomorrow night is really McEachern’s only remaining test… and it should be no problem as long as they don’t beat themselves. First round, McEachern should draw Brookwood, Dacula, or Parkview… and they beat Brookwood earlier this year.

Etowah Fan…

If the McEachern team that played EP so hard shows up and the Harrison team we saw at “The Boneyard” shows up McEachern will win easily…McEachern is a VERY physical team and EP had a good game against them a few weeks ago…That game was a HARD loss for EP as they really wanted to win it and EP cam to play that night and could have stole one from McEachern but let it get away…

Last wek was totally different and EP kept Harrison in the game all night…GIVING them a gift with seconds to go before halftime of a TD when EP fumbled a STUPID play in its own endzone!!! The Harrison team we saw at “THE BONEYARD” last week will have a VERY tough time against McEachern!!!

It still looks like #1 McEachern, #2 Woodstock, #3 Etowah & #4 Harrison…

Cannon – Agreed! Not sure why Reeze hadn’t already put Region 5 (McEachern) into the no-brainer category. The commentary on Harrison was not to imply that McEachern will fall… my guess is that McEachern wins going away.

At this point, I want to close ranks and hope Region 5 bodes well in the playoffs. A little sorry to not see EP going to the post season… as you guys have historically traveled and played well in the playoffs. I am guessing our #3 (hopefully Etowah) draws South Gwinnett in the first round…

I understand what you’re saying with trying to make up for the cost of the dome but multiple games at Grady stadium and multiple games at the Georgia Dome the prices will never be the same. One is a professional venue and the other is used for prep sports. It’s the same in basketball, the ealry rounds of the state playoffs(hosted by the higher seeds) would never be the same price as the admission at the finals.(Neutral Site-Gwinnett Arena or Macon Coliseum)

“Truth is, if my team had to win at the expense of shamefully recruiting players from outside of their respective districts,I would find it difficult to enjoy the wins.”

Yeah right, you would take them either way. Everyone does it whether you get caught or not. It’s sad but now teams have to do it just to compete. Being honest and working with what you have will get you fired now a days if you’re not winning.

Finally, rumor has it that good ole Charles “Magic Bus” Flowers is coming back to coach Central of Phenix City,(right cross the riva from Columbus) so Dell McGee better grease up his van cause he and Flowers both play that “what district” come play for us game.
