Good game MLK should have been better…Newton County was only able to score due to an MLK blunder! Two MLK touchdowns were called back due to ‘holding’ penalties. Next week these types of errors CAN’T happen! I also watched the Stephenson and Redan afterwards, Redan played as if they were very intimidated by the Jaguars. However, I disagree with Blake Ashmon’s statement, “This is a full package. Stephenson does not rely on one or two key players they are a team of 90.”; if MLK shut #25, and possibly #29, Stephenson won’t have a running game.

Northside Warner Robins played Coffee County last night and won. Lowndes played Valdosta and won. Next week NSWR will play an upstart Grovetown Hiigh School from the Augusta area. Lowndes will play Houston County. Now, why in the H—, Lowndes and NSWR people still talking about a game played nearly two weeks ago. Please, please, let’s move forward. NSWR is young, they play a few freshmen, more sophmores and juniors. A lot of seniors are reflected on the roster but many don’t play. Let the team grow up. The game between Lowndes and NSWR is over regardless of what would have happened if,.if, if, etc. As we said in the Marines, I have another batttle to fight on the next hill.

viking forever said ” we are 102-20(.836) and your are 69-32(.683) since 2000″. With all due respect, that is an unfair comparison. Your program was a well established program and Grayson’s was a startup in the same period. Heck, I think Grayson didn’t even have a dedicated weight room until 2005! (I could be wrong there but based on the touchdown club site I think that is correct.) I think it is fair to say Grayson has come a long way in the ten years especially given the low level of support from the school system. Did you know that the only thing the school system funded are the light poles and lighting at the stadium?
I think the “blowing our horn” is a function of excited fams. I know Coach Con would never do that. It just feels good as a young program without much tradition to be able to stand up and play with the storied programs in the state. It is also a little fun to be able to win after listening to more than a few vocal supportors of these programs talk about how they are going to bury us. The Lowndes-Grayson game last year had a lot of build up with a lot of trash talk about coming to Grayson and taking over and making the Grayson field into Lowndes country.
Any fair poster will recognize respect is owed to the long time successful prgrams while at the saem time enjoying the success of the younger programs. It is a game for kids and we adults need to remember that.

SERIOUS GRAYSON HATER, the behaviour you saw after the game last night is pretty consistant for Grayson. I have been impressed that after the formal lineup handshake, nost of the players will then mingle with as many of the opposing team as wants to and give further handshakes and pats on the back, etc. Grayson *always* gathers for a team prayer/moment of silence after the game and then mingles with the students and families before leaving. I have seen some of them still on the field for 20 minutes after a game talking. At the South-Grayson game, the band drums lines came out for a “drum off” and the students and players hung out to watch the friendly competition.
I guess this is why many of us don’t understand some of your previous comments. Anyway, glad you could make it to the game and had a good time. It was a good game on both sides!

Viking lover: I did put Lowndes County on “Upset Alert” for their game against Valdosta on Friday. I would honestly do it again if you guys played next Friday. I know about big intracity rivalries due to the HUGE rivalry between Northside and Warner Robins.
You will see that I am consistent. I am a Northside Eagles fanatic. I love the history of our program. I am a HOMER in that I always believe in Northside. I also tell the truth. I have said all year long that Northside is a young team and we have to take each game a week at a time. I will put Northside on “Upset Alert” when we play Warner Robins. You have to throw out the records and the team with the best record always had a tendency to get comfortable.
I am NOT going to apologize to you Lowndes County posters. I did not apologize when I told the truth and called Lowndes County out as a SUSPECT road team. Lowndes is a SUSPECT road team. I also honestly said that I believed Lowndes struggled due to the long travel. You guys forget about that part. My opinion is Lowndes is basically North Florida and the travel creates some challenges. That is my opinion. Lowndes County may be road chokers. I do not think so. It is honest to say that Lowndes County UNDERPERFORMS on the road. You may say that about many programs.
Lowndes was on “Upset Alert” and I would put them on “Upset Alert” any time they play Valdosta due to the storied rivalry…EVERY TIME. I will do the same when Northside plays Warner Robins…EVERY TIME. What you Lowndes County crybabies should scroll through and see is that I picked Lowndes County to win.
If you called Valdosta taking the worst beating in the history of Valdosta football in games against Lowndes County, then good for you. I did not. I expected a close contest. It seemed like many posters did. We all know that Valdosta has some highly rated players. I expected them to really show up and compete due to the importance of the game. The game was more important for Valdosta than Lowndes County. Valdosta is now 1-3 and must win out to have a prayer of reaching the state playoffs.
Valdosta did not compete. I will not take back my “Upset Alert” or my pick of Lowndes County over Valdosta. I really want to put you guys in a sensitivity class or something. I once thought that it was Grayson posters that kept the chatter going. You guys are so focused upon losing at the MAC to Northside-Warner Robins, you are missing the great season ahead. The truth is Lowndes has NEVER won at the MAC. Northside has beaten Lowndes County 6 out of 8 times. Logic should tell you that we OWN Lowndes County.
Northside plays Grovetown, who has a few big prospects, next Friday and hits the road to play in one of Georgia storied stadiums in Tifton. That is my focus. We have already beaten Lowndes County. No more attention for a game that was played 8 days ago. We won it…as I knew we would.

Viking Forever: You did not compare Lowndes County to Grayson, a new school that played it’s first game in 2000. Heck, Lowndes County had two State Championships by 2000. Come on Viking Forever. That is not a fair comparison. Let’s compare apples to apples.
Lowndes County HS was founded in 1966. Northside-Warner Robins was founded in 1963. In program history, Lowndes County has won just under 63% of their games going 310-184-3. Northside has won just under 71% of their games going 379-153-6. Since 2000, Lowndes County is 102-20. Since 2000, Northside-Warner Robins is 114-12. In program history Lowndes County have brought two top ranked Georgia teams to McConnell-Talbert Stadium and were unable to find the will to make a defensive stand as Northside won both games on their final drive. Northside has won 6 out of 8 games against Lowndes County. I guess if you are Lowndes County, 2-6 against a program like Northside is not bad.
If you are interested there are other top teir programs that have won as much as Lowndes County too. Marist was played in the inaugural season of the GHSA in 1948 and have won over 70% of their games going 496-207-14 since then. For anyone curious Valdosta also played in the inaugural 1948 season and have won approximately 81% of their games since then! The Wildcats are 616-140-9 since 1948. Warner Robins have won almost 70% of their games and were founded in 1953. The Demons are 448-192-11.
Notice Lowndes County posters how the Vikings trail practically every strong AAAAA program. Of course, Lowndes has won more games than Grayson. Are you guys serious…comparing yourself to a new school? All the more reason, the Grayson 17, Lowndes County 7 playoff game tells you all that you need to know about Lowndes County football and the Vikings on the road.
Truth be told, Randy McPherson clearly won the Buck Godfrey “Lump-In-My-Throat” Award for 2008. It is virtually IMPOSSIBLE to lose with that loading Viking team last season led by Greg Reid. After watching the Vikings play once, I am nominating McPherson for his second straight Buck Godfrey Award. Would Lowndes poster agree that if Lowndes County loses in the 1st or 2nd round of the playoffs that McPherson earns his second Buck Godfrey Award?

Come on Hoya posters. What is going on over at Harrison High School? Are players injured? Have players been suspended? It looks as though Harrison may finish 4-6. They have huge games approaching. Harrison has really been and up and coming program. It appears that the Hoyas have taken a MAJOR step backwards in the past two weeks. By showing players respect and not throwing a teenage amateur player under the bus, what is going on up there?

Love High School Football, I don’t know what game you watched but In the wing T Stephenson runs 3 different backs and all of them had a touchdown number 15 had 2 tds. # 29 plays receiver and doesn’t start. IMO MLK will have problems stopping Stephenson’s running game. But this year they can beat you alot of different ways. SWD defense gave MLK problems and I think Stephenson’s will give them even more.

LOL. I thought your wrap-up of the game was pretty much on the money. Troup is capable of being dangerous. Carver seems to find ways to keep their opponent in the game with penalties, poor special teams play and turnovers. I still believe that Carver has the most talented roster in the state. But to win it all this season, they are gonna have to correct some major mistakes. What do you think about the coaching change at Shaw?

VALDOSTA FANS, The big loss this weekend must be a hard pill to swallow. But give Tomberlin some time. Say 2 years for marked improvement. Having grown up during the era when Valdosta was king year end and year out, it is even hard for me,(who is not from Valdosta) to envision a routing from their cross county school who for years was a “gimmee” in Region 1AAAAA. Tomberlin will do just fine. Give him time. Best of luck “Wildcats”.

Congrats to the gutty performance from North Clayton last night. Also to Drew High School – what a great facility you have there. It is GREAT and set up fantastic. When they fix the “traffic egress” it will be even better. EXCEPTIONAL performance from both teams, and Griffin did have to dig deep to get the win. Our starting center was out with strep and some bad snaps early on caused some timing issues, but was corrected at half-time. I hope this game converts a few naysayers about our team this year.

a few years you should remember
1998 nswr chocked on road in playoff
1999 lowndes came back to break your heart 31-28( major choke)HUGE LEAD
2000 choked on road in playoffs
2001 choked at home in playoffs
2002 statesboro took it from you
2003 newnan took you at home
2004 statesboro again
2005 guess who again(statesboro)
2006 you went on to win 4a title(not 5a)
2007 you went on to win 4a title(not 5a)
2008 camden took it from you
looks like your boys have only 2 titles at a lower classification.oh yeah, until 2006 your boy nix was buck godfrey. he couldn’t win the big one. mcpherson has 3 at lowndes and 1 in florida in a whole lot less years.you are right about lowndes beginning in 1966, but they didn’t have a winning record until 1976 and joe wilson era. heck ron simmons’wr team had as many state titles as nswr has.your boys have been alot of hype for years and are the ultimate chokemasters and underacheivers since 1998. and you’ll probably do it again this year. so how do you like those apples.

how about those Colquitt County Packers? took care of business against Tift County and improved their record to 6-1. with Valdosta virtually being out of playoff contention now, Colquitt County has all but wrapped up a playoff spot in Region 1AAAAA. only Warner Robins, Houston County, and Northside left on the schedule. if they finish 8-2 or 9-1, Rush Propst should win state Coach of the Year!

Good post, Viking Forever. I just wish EagleNationRisingRunnethOverAtTheMouth would admit he was wrong when he said “LOWNDES COUNTY WILL NOT PEACHTREERIDGE VALDOSTA”. The 57 points Lowndes scored was the most ever scored on a Valdosta team by any team, and the win was the 1st time in history anybody has beaten Valdosta 6 times in a row. The game was live on Armed Forces radio network world wide, and on CBS nationwide TV. SOMEBODY, if not Mr. EaglaNationRisingRunnethOverAt TheMouth himself, thinks Lowndes is important and pretty doggone good.

Let me hear your answer Mr. Statistical Genius unless you are afraid for all on here to hear.

I saw the LaGrange team in the dome….they were good but your are only punishing your self with the thinking they were any more than a very good AAA team. Punisher, but you have 3 schools so it is what it is.
Take away the gazillion schools in Gwinnett and no one beats Gwinnett.
Besides ask your favorite Lagrange supporter Slalom and he will tell you numbers in a school don’t matter. That seems to be the thinking in that area of the state any how, at least when it is convenient for you to think that way.
ps-I am not saying Lagrange 2004 could not have beaten any team in the state on any give night but they were not the best football team in the state in 2004. Period. Probably no better than 4th or 5th best in the state. Better teams all in AAAAA that year would have been Parkview, Camden, Lowndes and very possibly Warner Robins. For that matter maybe even Charlton Cty.

In responce to “The Punisher” Lowndes High played it’s starters and their backups for only three quarters against Valdosta, turn sent in the BTeam. (Valdosta continued playing its starters the entire game.) A team simply has to play its starters at least that much to get the players into game condition, so when they play good teams they don’t get fitigued too soon. We even played the freshman team against Peachtree Ridge, Tift, and in another couple of games. I think the fact that Camden and Lowndes and Northside being good year after year proves they play the reserves enough to keep their winning programs going. If scores sometimes get out of hand because of another team’s ineptness, that’s too bad.

ENR….Please try to attand a Harrison game and watch our head coach on the sidelines. I have never seen a High School football coach, act so hostile and treat his players with such indignation. To constantly berate your own players in front of his peers is not beneficial to anyone. You have to motivate with encouagement to get a teenager to put forth an effort. Harrison lost alot of starters from last year, and are having a “rebuilding” year. Regeion 5AAAAA is not an easy schedule. Never count out Harrison, McEachern, Woodstock, Etowah, or East Paulding, in any given week. You can’t win them all. but the afore mentioned teams have won quite a few!!

I see it’s back to bashing Camden again this week, AJC do Camden a favor and drop them from the top 10 maybe then some off the people on here will find some other team to complain about. Hornestly until watching them play this past weekend I didn’t think they were a top 10 team. Yeah they beat Groves 76-0, but most of it was done by back up players getting valuable playing time that will only help come playoff time like it did last year when they went 15-0. For those who want Camden to join region 1, it will never happen (Sgt Chris). You must have some serious dislike for Camden, but it’s okay.lol Why it want happen, well I did a little research and the closest reg. 1 school is Coffee Co. which is 99 miles and the farthest is NSWR and WR 252 miles one way. As many others has pointed out to you football isn’t the only sport played. Basketball have very strict rules concerning starting time during the school week. Varsity games must start at 6 pm during the school week and as a official who have traveled to some of these long away games it’s not fun ending a game close to 10 pm then travel 3 hours by get a few hours of sleep and get ready for work the next day. So with that being said, let’s enjoy the remaining few weeks left in football and then let the playoffs determine who is best.

YO is ALWAYS right.LOL. YO, don’t know if you are aware of it or not, but Lowndes and LaGrange shared one common opponent in 2004-Kendrick. Kendrick head coach, Ahmad Tinker stated: “We have played Lowndes and Valdosta this year(2004). I have also seen Camden County. The Grangers are hands down the best team in Georgia”. Of course that is just one head coach’s opinion. Never mind Daryl Maxie of the AJC declaring that “at season’s end if there was to be a play-off between the state’s best, The Grangers would most likely be my pick to win it all”. Never mind that virtually EVERY national, state and local poll had the 2004 Grangers ranked higher than Lowndes. Of course, we will never know. But don’t you get tired of powerful Lowndes beating up on MUCH smaller schools week end and week out? Poor little Northside with an enrollment of about 1880 should have had ZERO chance against powerful Lowndes with an enrollment of 2,740. By your line of reasoning neither should ANY smaller school have a “chance” against a much larger school. Final question: If enrollment is such a deciding factor, what pleasure can any fan get from beating up on smaller schools? Secondly, here is an idea that should put things in perspective. Suppose Lowndes is playing against a school with an enrollment of say 2,000.(About average size for most teams in 1AAAAA except for Lowndes @ 2,740). That is a 27% advantage in favor of Lowndes. When Lowndes plays these smaller schools, in the name of “fair play”, remove 27% of all seniors, juniors and sophs just to be fair. Obviously Northside did not need the “neutralizing” factor and still whipped the Giant. Your prejudice toward smaller schools is becoming a bit tiring.(Even when Lowndes is about to become a #2 seed to the smallest school in a region where their enrollment is superior to all other schools in 1AAAAA.) Is it really that much fun to be a “bully” and can you blame fans across the state when the “bully” gets whipped by the “little guy”?

I should probably just shut up, but in the words of The 4 Tops, “Can’t Help Myself”. I have NEVER said that “enrollment does not matter”. It does. What I have said is that enrollment is just one factor that plays a role in success or failure. (Probably ranks about 4th on the list of “what it takes to win GHS football games”. I will use my beloved Grangers as an example. Enrollment : slightly less than 1400. Lost to Newnan in 2008 and 2009. Newnan has an enrollment advantage of about 25% over LaGrange. But that IS NOT why the Grangers lost both games. It was game preparation. i.e conditioning, execution and coaching in all aspects of the game.Talent wise and roster size was about even in both years. Newnan simply whipped a good Granger team for those reasons. Go back to 2004. Newnan enjoyed the same enrollment advantage. The Grangers won 35-7 for all of the same reasons. Granted there are years when one team may have more talent than another regardless of enrollment. And YO, my last post should have read, “Can you blame fans across the state who celebrate when the “bully” gets whipped”?
As for 2009, should the Cougars make it deep into the AAAAA play-offs, they will most likely have to overcome an “enrollment disadvantage” along the way. However, the enrollment advantage that Camden County enjoyed over Newnan in 2008 is not why the Cougars lost. They just played a bad first half. There is more “enrollment disparity” in AAAAA than in any other classification in the state. I believe that this is the year of the COUGARS. Should they go the distance, it will NOT be due to an enrollment advantage. To the contrary it will be the result of great coaching, great player developement and fabulous community support.
