Besides, Sgt Chris,

Camden Country is aligned in Southeast Georgia as the Savannah Schools, and Bradwell Institute.

Michael Carvell, I know you are much more knowledgeable than I in regards to High School football, however, I beg to differ with you concerning your analysis of Stephenson and MLK. I do think Union Grove has a good team, is getting better and on the right track but we do struggle with the aforementioned teams. They are both pretty physical with a lot of speed. Let’s put this in perspective, we scored on NSWR in the playoffs last year but were blanked by Stephenson and we all know that NSWR has a phenomenal program. We like to razz Stephenson and MLK but the truth of the matter is we know that they are tough. You talk about the North and Northeast teams, do you remember back in the 70’s when McEachern High School was always rated pretty high and only played competition North of Atlanta? What happened to them when playoff time came and they played teams further south? They got whooped!!! What did their coach do after that? He incorporated some teams from outside of his region, namely Lagrange and Clark Central so his team could see some real competition before playoff time rolled around. He figured out that most of the stronger teams were south. I am not saying that Grayson and some of the other teams are not good but I do think you are really overestimating some teams and underestimating others. BTW I really expect to see Lowndes in the dome this year.

dekalb fans,
either way both dekalbs MLK and stephenson and gwinnett teams such as grayson, NG, PTR and Collins HIll this year seem to be off to a good start. Hopefully Region 2 can set region 1 straight this year and end all the yapping that there fans do. Talking about a nationally ranked team such as ptree ridge being winless in there region. they act like they play in the NFL while the rest of us are in pee wee. it wasnt by accident that no one got past the third round last year from region 1. this year will be no different. if you got a good fieldgoal kicker you can beat northside. and lowndes has all road games. the rest of the teams are just like any other regions 3 and 4 teams. decent but probably not gonna upset anybody.

yes indeed, and those were some battles we (LaGrange) had against McEachern..Glad to see them back on the map after a few down years. Do they still have that big indian at the end of the end zone??

Sgt Chris – MLK has gotten way past that…the question have you? Can’t live off tradition forever…Lagrange’s recent history post State Championship is not much different then the rest of us that have won the big one…remember; just like all the wins count so too do the losses…can I also add that 2004 in the DOME was year 4 of the MLK football program…3rd year with a functioning weight room…so essentially you beat up an the new kid on the block…had we not upset Peach County….how much would your schools history have changed?????

slalom1 – You’re a great detective. Yep, I was lucky enough to go to Morrow when it had a great football program. This was Region 6-AAAA in 1987 (thanks to Ga. HS Football Historians Association). Riverdale, Fayette Co. and Forest Park were the only losing teams that season. Morrow and Griffin both went 9-1-0 in regular season, with Newnan, LaGrange, Jonesboro and N. Clayton going 6-4-0. But I remember that season was a lot rougher than it sounds. None of those games were easy.

Griffin
LaGrange
Newnan
Jonesboro

Slalom,

Which Gainesville did you watch? If you were in the stands, I wish I would have known so that I could have looked you up. If it was the one that was televised, then you saw Gainesville at their worst. As far as 7AAA goes, there’s a very good chance that Flowery Branch could be the #4 seed out of that region. How would you like to be the #1 seed that has to play them in the first round?

SGT CHRIS

k–yes we have gotten past that, and while you guys were making your early exit out of the playoffs last year, we were makin a playoff run NO ONE thought we would make while your guys had an early start working out in that functioning weightroom…..speaking of championship runs yes LaGrange’s run of state titles this decade is a LOT different that MOST..how many schools won 3 TITLES in 4 years??? The only schools that come to my mind are Parkview and Lowndes….Trust me we KNOW our football history so there is no need to relive it. I was just pokin a lil bit at the MLK posters on here thats all..No harm no foul!!!

You said Camden County as if it they have a say in it. Oh atleast thats how it was recieved for those of us reading it. While yes it would be amazing for a football stand point to have camden in region 1, but thats like saying Southern Cal should join the SEC. Its called a region for a reason. Plus the regions are for all sports not just football. SO yes, the football team might be able to afford the trip over to 75, the girl’s LAX team wouldn’t be so fortunate.

AND K–To answer you question, MLK, PEACH COUNTY, WASHINGTON COUNTY,…with the defense we had that year it wouldnt have mattered who we played…Im sure you were at that game in the dome, you tell me who would have beat us lol!!!!

SGT CHRIS

Haha, you know they’res alot of money down in wildcat country. Maybe they could afford the trip. haha. We had a random team (Murry County) in region 5 my soph and jr year. So its not like it doesn’t happen. Maybe we should start something?

The ultimate reason for Camden county not to join 1AAAAA is the logistics of travel not only for the football teams but other sports as well. Who would want to make that long ride for a soccer match or a basketball game. The amount of money to bus the kids that far for every event would be tremendous

I’d like to see Lowndes come up to Suwanee and play 100% against the Lions. Travelling is not an easy thing to do. Very few teams can travel a long distance for a game and play their absolute best. This explains a lot of the losses for North GA teams in South GA. If PRHS were in Region 1. They’d probably be a #2 or 3 seed team. In their best years, we could possibly win the region. Eagle, stop the propaganda, it’s quite obnoxious.

BulldawgBite Since you like to harp on the past include all of the past for Stephenson like the 3 3rd round losses and the 1 semi loss. Our past records against everyone with exception of lowndes and camden is a winning one so stop trying to come on the blog and bash us like your would really want to play us. Dekalb vs Gwinnett pub it up.

OK So if money is a factor, was it a factor for Camden to make the trip to Hoover last year? or Buford to go to Texas?? If it was, no one on the outside of those schools knew about it??

SGT CHRIS

sportsfan, i do understand when it comes to the economy and travel, BUT teams ALL OVER the country are doing it, now take for instance the kirk herbstreit sponsored games, im sure he is paying those teams to come play, but what about when mater dei (CA) plays don bosco prep (NJ) every year it seems like …im sure those teams are footing the bill to play those games..i get it every team can’t do it, but im sure the more traditional powers, the camdens, bufords, lowndes, even valdosta can do it..i just think they’d have to WANT to do it…

SGT CHRIS

SGT CHRIS,

yes but look that their Fans Support, among other things. Lowndes County, Camden County, and Valdosta have huge support there. I was just reading the news where it was stated that Hinesville are among the top 10 in the County being impoverish, and number 2 in the State Of Georgia, and you have two surrounding Military Installations there. Ft Stewart and Hunter Army-Airfield.
