Congrats to Northside on the victory over Lowndes. Some would contend that Northside should be No. 1 now, but we moved up Grayson, a team that’s now 19-1 over the past two seasons and beat Lowndes in the AAAAA quarterfinals last year.
More important than the rankings for Northside and Lowndes are the implications of this game in the region standings. Remember that the No. 2 seed from 1-AAAAA likely will be playing at Camden County in the second round. Not that Northside or Lowndes couldn’t win there, but you know they’d rather be somewhere else in November. Further, a No. 2 seed also figures to be on the road for the quarters and semis. Can Lowndes win at Camden, at McEachern and at Grayson (or Newnan) in consecutive weeks?
My gut says Lowndes still is the best team in AAAAA, but the odds of going 3-0 through that gantlet is well below 50-50, IMO. We’ll see how it plays out.
In other news, Westminster’s victory over Lovett rends Class AA very difficult to rank. Do I put Westminster (3-2) ahead of Lovett (4-1)? Westminster’s losses are to Class AAA teams. But if I do that, shouldn’t Westminster go ahead of Buford, too? In the end, I just have a lot of faith in Buford, Region 6-AA and also Region 1-AA (Thomasville). That influenced the rankings.

31,
I’m sure that you are also aware of the contraversy that happened because of 1 player, after being removed from the team, was allowed to come back, although the Head Coach never made the decision to let him return. If you think about it, you’ll realize that’s when Hiram lost games that they should have won. It wasn’t until late in the season that we got a glimpse of what this years team could be. I’m not taking anything away from last years seniors, but when no one allows you to lead, it’s out fo your hands. Everything that I’ m saying here is the way that I heard it from my son. I hope you and others from Hiram will be on here helping me support our Hornets.

Wolverine Fan, Haha…maybe. but serious after playing Harrison twice and one of them at their place and knowing how they play normally at home, and how much of a home field advantage they have specially if it rains before the game. It just worries me. Specially with Harrison having a slow start knowing they have nothing to loose right now and eveything to gain plus its extreamly easy for our players to write them off. IDK, visions of the fog rolling down the south endzone and off the roof of their locker room just spook me out and have me wondering. Maybe it has something to do with the 3 times i’ve gone there not once has Woodstock driven away with a W

Hey Yo, the godfather of Lowndes opinionators. lol I know that Tyler Hunter is the son of Bryce Hunter, a former outstanding Lowndes/Valdosta/UGA receiver. He wears #15 in the D-backfield. I was looking for him to play a lot of offense since he played some QB and RB when we played in 2008. Do you know why not? Tyler is fast but his built is more like a linbacker. #31 was one tough open field tackler. Khary Franklin is a smart runner. Glad to see him gone should we play in 2010. Even in 4AAAA Nix and McP could still schedule a game.

Northside Observer….I think Hunter will be used offensively more in 2010. Having said that I think he is better served on the defensive side of the ball for the long hall. From the skill set side of the ball Lowndes will return Parker QB, Hunter and the wing back #29 Braswell. Braswell has actually looked better at RB in my mind than Hunter. #31 Stanley is listed as a junior CB/RB also.
I see Hunter as a safety in college.

Well we didn’t do too well either, even though we actually led the game at halftime and still found a way to give it up. Our coaches don’t have an answer right now, this is the head coach’s first year(Quarterback Coach at Newnan) and he’s tried to bring the spread offense here but he quickly found out this isn’t Newnan. The best athletes here are in the hallways all day and either don’t have the grades or don’t have the money to pay the astronomical dues to play. Our programs can’t run without dues, just don’t have the money. After the first few games they switched back to wing T in which the previous coach ran for 7 years. That’s what they ran last weekend and finally were able to score some points. Our school can’t wait for basketball season, that’s the truth.

Grayson student: In no way is our offense like WR, we run two or three different sets. And to whoever it was that said our coaching was weak in the seacond half is crazy. We did what was needed to win, nothing more nothing less, we did control allot of the clock and our defense played strong. In no way did they mess up on play calling. Coach Nix has finally figured out how get it done (for many years we made it there but couldnt pull it off). There was always some changes he wanted to make in the playoffs, he would run trick plays and all kinds of other stuff that wasnt needed. Northside needs to do what they do best play hard smash mouth footbal it works for them so why change it. And to all that recognized the team for the great win against Lowndes………… Thank You!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay I’ am going to admit now Todd is right by not having Mays in the top 10 of 5-AAAA. I’ am always going to hope for the best for Mays cause I’ am probably one of the biggest fans of Mays I bleed blue and gold I love my Mays Raiders. The thing is Atlanta City Schools will never be able to win the state championship because the schools talent is so spreaded out throughout the schools it’s not even funny especially with the schools being so close together. The reason why most of the times the county schools win the state cause it’s like one big school with most of the talent is just at that one school. The reason why schools like Parkview and Brookwood have fallen off is because the best talent aren’t going to those schools anymore North Gwinnett and South Gwinnett is getting better talent now. In the city Douglass & Washington have fallen off cause the best talent is going to either Westlake, Tri-Cities, Mays, Banneker, Creekside & North Clayton. Valdosta High have slipped cause the best talent is going to Lowndes. High school football not predictable cause you never know who is going to be good each year it usually just depends on what school has the best talent which you never know until the games get played.

the reason Washington and the rest of these city schools aren’t winning isn’t because they don’t have talent. Its coaching I support Wash., have seen Mays play 3 times, Doug 3 times, and it comes down to bad coaching. I like Coach Pritchett @ Wash, but he needs some real high school asst coaches. The coaches on his staff are terrible off.coord, def. coord, and spec teams. To be down to Therrell last week 20-0 in the first qtr is down right crazy. They had Grady and Carver beat but bad coaching cost us those two games, lucky for us we beat Therrell 28-20 or things would be alot worse. We have a senior qb # 9 Q. Forte. He has looked good at qb his whole career until this year. Somethings not right so again the city schools have talent just need quality coaches.

NTH trojans,
I have to agree with you about last years team. Once the injury to Marcus happened after the second game, no one really took the leadership role. This year there is leadership and big play ability. I think the seniors did a good job and played outstanding and I thought the Sequoyah game was an indication of things to come. Hiram is still a young team that makes mistakes but can match up with Hillgrove. I would not be surprised with a win against Hillgrove. They have the talent and the defense is better than I thought they would be.

I agree the coaches of Mays, Douglass & Washington are terrible all three of these great city schools should be in contention every year. It also has to deal with the talent that the three schools have that are spreaded out throughout the three schools if each school had their own talent that when they graduate from middle school they go to their zoned school instead of going to schools outside of their zone each school would be great cause they would all have their own players.

Decatur4Life,
I understand your point. You know, it saddens me when you see talented kids out there, and they don’t have the support from either their parents or the school. When I was growing up, my MOM kept me involved in activities. She made me do something even played instrumental music. Yes, I played sports and played instrumental music. I started out on Tenor Saxophone and then moved over to Percussion.
So I know what it is like to Play Football, Run Track, ( It was a Rule that if you played Football, you also ran Track) and I also marched In the marching band playing drums. There is an old saying that Idol Time is the Devil’s Workshop. Someone ( Coach, Parents, Boosters) need to grab those kids up that attends Columbia Of Decatur, and put them in a Sports program before they fall succumb to the streets.
Also, everyone there at Columbia should support the new Coach. The Spread offense will work great if you have speed. The faculty, parents, and Boosters should get more involved. This is not just a Sport for the School, but it is also Big Business. Winning Football games increase fan support, thereby increasing cash revenue at the gates for the School. With no wins, then you wont get much Fan support. In the State Of Georgia, Football definitely bring in cash revenue for the school followed by basketball.
With cash revenue, Fans Support, and a good Boosters Club or something relative to that, you can definitely augment your program, and get new equipment, facilities and etc. You know, a lot of the South Georgia teams runs the Wing T offense. It’s effective.
As far as Bradwell Institute goes, I wont comment too much as the reason why other than I will say that the players wet in over confident against an 0-4 Jenkins of Savannah in addition to them playing at home. They continue to run repetitive running plays over and over again. The Team is very young and inexperienced but I wont use that as an excuse. Bradwell Institute played very poorly and that is the results and ramifications when you don’t take your opponents seriously.
In one of the blogs on page 4, Holklabackk had a lot more to say about Bradwell Institute. You should read his comments. A lot of the fans feel the same way Hollabackk feels.

NTH Trojans, Good points. And furthermore you are right. Region 7AAA is the toughest region in AAA. What has happened down here in 2AAA is that Muscogee County, which is the home of 5 of the 7 teams in the region has allowed rampant recruiting and unapologetic transfers of most of the best athletes in the county (of about 11,000 high school kids) to play for one school with an enrollment of less than 1,000. Guess who? Consequently aside from LaGrange and Troup the rest of Region 2AAA might as well be JV. Of course except for “you know who”. What is even more troubling is that Muscogee County has also set up Columbus High as a magnet high school. They are the beneficiaries of the best students in the county which has in turn lowered state testing standards for most of the other county schools. Columbus High is basically a tax payer funded private school. The Muscogee County school board is a shameless throwback to “old south” politics. On a different note, didn’t you tell me that your son is a LB for Hiram? Good for him and congrats to Hiram for their success in 2009.

leechampion, Nice job in pointing out the losses by LaGrange and Carver to Newnan and Northside. If the young Granger defense can grow up and Gunsby can heal up, this Granger team has the potential for greatness by season’s end. So far it has been an inconsistent ride.
Someone suggested to me that any county who allows random transfers from one school to another should be required to play in AAAAA regardless of the school’s enrollment. I agree with that concept.

East is the team most likely to get upset by Harrison, although if we don’t get by N Cobb this weekend it won’t really qualify as an upset. The team that looked competitive with McE looked pitiful last Friday and changing QBs in the 2nd half is never a good sign. Maybe Idris was injured. Anyway right now I’d have to say the 4th playoff spot in 5-AAAAA is up for grabs.

Hey Fellow GHSF Supporters! I took the Griffin Bears bye week to do some “scouting”. I went to the Dutchtown – Alcovy Game in Hampton, and What a great game it was. I made some new friends and was impressed by the talent of both teams. I do think Dutchtown got out-coached in the end however. A few of the bulldog coaches had visible meltdowns towards the end of the game, while Alcovy remained calm and confident, and mashed the final scoring drive into the end zone for a HUGE 19-18 win for the Tigers. Now to business at hand….The Mighty Griffin Bears are rested and ready to break out the Beast Claw again this week vs.a good North Clayton Eagle squad. It will be Griffin Bears first road game this year thanks to some beneficial scheduling by whoever does that stuff. We play what they give us! EP did have an embarrassing showing last friday, but how many games are left in the season? Winning the region is all well and good, but the playoffs are what count. I do think that East Paulding cannot loose another game this season, and they most likely won’t. I know the coaches and they will not allow another loss. Once, EP makes it to the playoffs though, thats when the football starts. The kids from EP these last 5 years or so have had all the heart in the world and will not give anything less than their best.

How about McIntosh County Academy in the top 10? They went on the road and beat an undefeated Benedictine team this past weekend. They have lost one game, a close one I might add. Newton Parent, we aren’t whining. We know that we have to have good games with POWERFUL Stephens, Newton and MLK to get some love. I read one of the posts by the AJC where they were explaining to one of the posters that the reason that they were not in the top 10 is because they did not make the playoffs last year even though they were doing well this year. They needed to prove themselves first. We did make the playoffs last year after finishing the season 8-2 and played a very good NSWR team and unfortunately, lost. This year we are 5-0 so far giving up very few points. If we cannot play with Stephens, Newton and MLK then we don’t deserve to be ranked. If we do well then everything else will fall into place.

Lissa: Glad to see you back. Where have you been?
AntBAll: Re Collins Hill: They should take care of Duluth, South Forsyth & Mill Creek. If they can take care of P’Tree Ridge (and that’s a big if), they will get love. Their other game is against Norcross, which will be a toss-up. Due to a scheduling quirk, they don’t play North Gwinnett. When Region 7-AAAAA put together their schedules, it was determined that there would be 2 out of region games & there would be 1 region opponent that would be played.
Raider to Blazer: Very well put. I take it you are a VSU student. How do you like going to school in Valdosta? I attended in early 80’s & my wife is a 82 grad. Back then it was VSC.
Brookwood Mom: Where are you? I just looked at the schedule for Gwinnett & found a game better than Grayson-Brookwood Friday night. I think I’ll check out Meadowcreek-Berkmar Friday instead. Carver-Columbus is still the team to beat in AAA. That 21-12 loss against NSWR in WARNER ROBINS doesn’t look so bad now, not saying that it was bad in the first place…. But, NSWR scored all of their points in the first half. Carver made their adjustments and shut them down in the second half, and the offense got going a little too late. Yes, NSWR played their starters the whole game. Carver has always started slow against the upper echelon teams and they seem to get things together in the second half. They no longer have the luxury of the big time playmaker at receiver, e.g. Jarmon Fortson – now starting at Florida State, but they do have the best Junior tailback in the state and some some scouting reports have him in the top 5 in the nation. Just ask NSWR…. Carver has produced a couple of All-Americans over the years (Jarvis Jones 08′-USC[Southern Cal.], Jasper Sanks 96′-UGA) and talent is something that they are not short of.
Warner Robins is also in middle GA and you placed Grayson ahead of NSWR??? But, NO one should be surprised about the metro-Atlanta bias that you continue to show within your polling system.
Matter of fact, you can pull Carver-Columbus from your ranking. It won’t mean a thing in December. The state champion is going to come from either region 1-AAA (Peach County or Cairo) or 2-AAA (Carver or LaGrange). Gainsville was undefeated last year… Until they met up with Carver… Enough said.
