Griffin takes over No. 1 at AAAA

Griffin is the new No. 1 in Class AAAAA.

Not sure it shouldn’t be Westside, though. That’s a real toss-up. We let Westside jump Southwest DeKalb, so if Griffin slips in its game vs. North Clayton in a couple of weeks, Westside likely would be the team to take Griffin’s place. But I don’t see Griffin losing through the regular season.

Griffin was No. 1 in preseason and for a couple of weeks in 2005. Griffin’s two losses that year were to the AAAA finalists, Northside and Statesboro. The last time Griffin has been ranked No. 1 this late was 1980.

Speaking of Northside, the Eagles have a big game this week vs. Lowndes. I don’t think there’s been a true road team to beat Northside at home since the mid-1990s. I believe it was Peach County in 1996. (I’ll look it up here shortly.)

Meanwhile, Lowndes is crushing its opponents. Lowndes has scored on the first play from scrimmage in three of five games, according to the Valdosta Daily Times. I’m going to ask for a Lowndes volunteer to document how many times Lowndes has scored on a run from scrimmage of 50 yards or more, or on defense or special teams. It’s remarkable how this Wing T team breaks so many runs on people.

In other news, McEachern jumps a little at the expense of Stephenson, which needed overtime to beat Newton.

Tucker remained ranked after it got smoked by Marist. That’s news because Tucker dropped out of the rankings last year when it lost to Marist 38-0. Franklin Stephens reminded me of that last week and hoped it wouldn’t happen again.

And finally, Grayson. I know the Rams are good, but it’s interesting that Grayson has trailed or been tied in the fourth quarter of three of its five victories. Is that meaningful? I don’t think Lowndes has trailed or been tied after the first two  minutes.

Agreed Sportsfan,
region 5 is looking kinda soft this year minus mcEachern and woodstock. but both defenses could be an issue. I dont know how camden looks but if they still have some talent then they could easily beat every team but McEachern. and that would be a good game

Dang ENR is soooooooooo annoying! Shut up please!!!
NO one game is the same and the make up of everyteam is different.
This lowndes team might not be as bad on the road as you think they will be… maybe their good on the road? how could you possibly know. your meaningless stats provide no insight to the game

EagleNationsRising: I’ll make you a wager on Friday’s Lowndes vs NSWR game. If Lowndes loses I will not post again this year. If Lowndes wins, will you agree not to post again this year?

Bulldawg Bite,

As far as Camden County goes Coach Jeff Herron always seem to pull something out of his book of tricks to beat a team. The only team has ever beaten Camden County in Region 3-AAAAA is Bradwell Institute, and that was a while ago, and after Bradwell Institute lost a lot of talent due to the building Of a new County High School (Liberty County Region 3-AAA) Bradwell Institute have not beaten Camden County. However; this year is very interesting… Both Teams are rebuilding. Bradwell Insititute has a lot of young inexperienced players (sophmores) on both sides of the ball yet they have still managed to remain number one in Region 3-AAAAA. Bradwell Institute and Camden County meet the very last game of the regular season, and it will be for the Region Title. Anyway you look at it, either Team will finish either the number one seed or the two two seed in the Region entering the post season playoffs. For region 5 this week, I believe East Paulding will pull one out over Etowah due to home field advantage that East Paulding has. This will be a good game though.

keep fooling yourself Griffin fans: oooooohhhh they are physical, yea, yea, yea, and they won’t make it to the dome. Their personal habits and demons will catch up to them, Don’t forget they do have a week spot, and the name of that week spot is CreekVeiw, and that name will take Griffin down to where they really are.
If they are that good, then somewhere in the play-offs, the Griffin fans must realize, they are in the same brackit as South West Dekalb, and they are big & physical, though neither team will beat high ranked teams from North or South Georgia, I hope in the first round they match them up against low record teams, so Griffin And South West dekalb, can advance to the second round:
If one of them makes all the way, I don’t think neither team will stand up to Marist, Tucker, or West Side Macon: In fact I’m putting it out there score wise concerning possibilities:

State Champioship:
West Side Macon 48 – South West Dekalb 13
West Side Macon 55 – Griffin 7

Tucker 28 – South West Dekalb 24
Tucker 42 – Griffin 14

Marist 31 – South West Dekalb 28
Marist 38 – Griffin 20

Yepppppppp – You got it:

People don’t forget about Colquitt County in 1AAAAA; they gave lowndes
county hell even though they lost 31-6 but colquitt county ran and threw the ball all night against the Vikings; Colquitt County had all 5 fumbles in the red zone which lowndes converted to touchdown; but I think Colquitt County should be recognized as a elite in 1AAAAA.

DJ Kwan, just one question. Who in the heck is Creek View? And if Griffin and SWD are so horrible, then how do you think one of the two will play for the State Championship.
