WHAT A WEEK!!!…
Paulding County schools are STILL out today (Thursday) but according to everything I have heard the game against Region opponent Marietta is still on for tomorrow night at “THE BONEYARD”!!!…
All the Region 5A-AAAAA eyes will be watching the battle for TLP between Etowah & Woodstock as the winner of that game will probably be playing our Raiders for the #2 position in Region 5A later in the season…
Our Raiders get back on track against Marietta’s Blue Devils so you KNOW WHATS COMING NOW…
Marietta…YOUR countdown has begun…
TICK…TICK…TICK…BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!! GO RAIDERS!!!!

The Lithonia (2-2) vs. Stone Mountain (3-1) @ Panthersville 8:00pm should be a good one. My son text me and said Lithonia went and Spray Painted there field (Stone Mountain practice field). I think the Stone Mountain vs. Lithonia rivalry is back like in the 50’s 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s.

Stone Mountain is mad and you know how the saying goes “don’t fight someone madder than you!” Lithonia needs to do something to get themselves up to play this one. There hasn’t been a Lithonia/Stone Mountain rivalry since maybe the 80’s because Stone Mountain has dominated Lithonia since the days of Kelvin Kight.

Class AAAA showdown: #6 Bainbridge Bearcats vs #3 Westside-Macon Seminoles. I am a Bainbridge fan, but have to give way to logic rather thanfalse hope. Bainbridge hasn’t really put together a complete game and Coach Pilcher seems to realize it. Westside-Macon has great athletes, but so does Bainbridge. bainbridge could squeak out an upset or get run out of the stadium. Hope the first one shows up, but logically the second one will.

I love how Avondale is getting props for taking on Blessed Trinity this week. Why isn’t Decatur vs Buford listed. Decatur has beaten a AAA
46-00 and the 4AA Region champion. They looked pretty good in the 1-3 quarters of the Hillgrove AAAA matchup. I know Buford is going to be a tough game, but Decatur is not just going to roll over for those kids. Look for this game to be a thriller. I welcome your thoughts.

Here is something to fire Lithonia up. Lithonia has not beaten Stone Mountain in varsity football since 1988. I was just starting Kindergarten. The time before that was 1986 and before that was 1977. That program has not had any potential since 1998 football season where they still did not have what it took to beat SMHS’s fire power. To be honest Lithonia is bored with losing and trying to give themselves something to play for by painting our field last night. You guys have really bit off more than you can chew. We are none of Forsyth Central nor Chamblee. We intend on bringing our lunch pale.

Both Woodstock & Etowah ALSO lost to McEachern this year BUT one of the best games to watch this week is going to be the battle for TLP as Woodstock & Etowah match up tomorrow night.
Yes, EAST lost to McEachern last week but no one got as you put it “there buts handed to them” (by the way you spell that butts), that game came down to the wire and was not decided until just over 4 minutes to go when EAST fumbled on the McEachern 2+ yard line. Nothing but an exciting game for both teams and unless the Indians stumble they probably have the #1 spot in the Region locked up…and by the way, in NONE of my post did you EVER see me state EAST would “shut McEachern down”…Did I think EAST would win…YES…bottom line McEachern won and sooooooooo…
That leaves the 2,3,& 4 spots to be decided yet and since EAST, Woodstock & Etowah still have to play each other these games will have a huge bearing on who ends up where in our Region 5A. In case you don’t understand how these standings work, it’s better to be at the #1 & #2 spots based on teams you play in the playoffs and the number of HOME games you get, that’s why #2 is now so important!
Frankly if you don’t like reading about 5A and what we think is going to happen in it you probably shouldn’t even be on this blog as that’s what we do here…TALK FOOTBALL and what we think is going to happen week to week!!!

Man Lithonia is a joke HaHAha there’s no way My Alumni is going to lose the LIthonia. Lithonia has had some talent player Like Rod Brown,Marcus Camp, Reggie Bensley,Eric Hall,Bryan Appling, Reece Mccambell, Clifford Browning, Rober Freeman, Kelvin Kight you get my point they have had players but Stone mountain has always had better athletes and better coaching. What a minute three of Stone Mountain coaches are Lithonia alumni that goes to show you even Lithonia alumni want to be apart of that pirate pride. Lithonia C/O 93 how does Lithonia let three great players coach at your rival school. who is Lithonia head coach?

You must have beaten a team within the last 10 years at least for it to come close to being some sort of Rivalry. If Pirate Alumni is right about the history between Lithonia and Stone Mountain, then all Lithonia is is another team on Stone Mountain’s schedule. There is no rivalry because Lithonia haven’t won since 88. Micheal Jackson’s BAD was about the drop the last time the Bulldogs beat the Mighty Pirates. Dirty Diana was a new song the last time the Bullpups tasted victory. Word on the Texts is some of your players wish they can come to SMHS!!!

Yep….our head coach was head coach at Stone Mountain Middle School head coach for the past 6 or 7 years. His current roster is full of players he coached at the middle school. Maybe that’s why they are doing well this far in the season. And he was also the defensive coordinator at Lithonia H.S., Washington H.S., and Druid Hills H.S. He was also the QB coach at the now closed Harper H.S. in Atlanta. Dude has more football knowledge in one of his pinky fingers than White has in his whole old body!! What has White done?? He was a loser at McNair, even with all the talent they had. Your coach needs to retire. Football has passed him.

That would be HARRISON so if your going to talk crap over a blog please dont do it when your team is tied for 5th place. So until you BEAT HARRISON WOODSTOCK AND ETOWAH. I have to agree with Marietta Fan about the Boneyard. When we played there last year I expected a whole lot more than I saw. Sort of dreary and lackluster. The Raiders played a whole lot better than the stadium looked. I loved the game at Marietta, any closer and I could have made a couple tackles myself.

MARIETTA FAN…
Of course others are ahead of the RAIDERS at this point in the schedule as the RAIDERS have only played 2 region games where most teams have played 3 or even 4 at this point. The Raiders had a BYE week early and are just now playing the region opponents.
In spite of what you imply these blogs are for braggin’, some good natured dishin’, and discussing where everyone thinks our teams will be at week to week. With that said I still think McEachern is looking like the #1 for our region and the 2, 3 and 4 spots are going to be EAST, Woodstock, and Etowah with the order yet to be decided. If this bothers you…SORRY…if Marietta comes into “THE BONEYARD” tomorrow night and beats the RAIDERS I will be one of the first on here discussing the game and congratulating you so bring it on…
your COUNTDOWN HAS BEGUN…TICK…TICK…TICK…and you WILL
understand the BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!! after tomorrow nights game!!!
As for your Harrison comment…do your homework…they barely beat Cherokee 21/16 who is 0/4, barely got by South Cobb 17/14 who is 1/3 and beat North Cobb who is 2/2. They got WHIPPED BAD by the only team with a winning record they played Peachtree Ridge 35/13!!!! They still have to play EAST, Etowah, Woodstock and McEachern!!! If they end up .500 this year it will be by a stroke of LUCK!!!

“THE BONEYARD” is all about atmosphere and the community / fan support that our RAIDERS receive. EAST winning program run began building only in 2006 season so they have came a long way since then to be where they are now competing at the AAAAA level. A new athletic building was completed last year and improvements have been made each year to the stadium but you are correct that other schools have nicer / newer facilities. The biggest drawback to “THE BONEYARD” is size it’s not large enough to host playoff games, temporary stands (costly) had to be brought in the last few years.

Wolverine Guys – Our backs this year are more by committee, as your right the big power back is on to D-1. However, it all starts with the O-line, and ours is stout! They are really coming together and the backs are seeing the holes much better. Your linebackers are well noted, and tough, but they will have their hands full backing up your undersized D-line, which should open up an underated passing attack. Be careful eight in the box will burn you!

ALL ABOARD!! The Mighty Griffin Bears should break out the BEAST-CLAW BASH ATTACK again on Forest Park for home coming this Friday . I was WAAAAY off in my prediction of the Bears losing by 4 last week against Mt. Zion. (I’ll keep my day job I ’spoze!). An absolute BONE-CRUSHING stop on a critical fourth down for Mt. Zion just deflated any and all Bulldogs this side of Athens!! The crunching THUD generated from the shock-waves reportedly flattened South Clayton County as well. Trust me, that one hit was YOU-TUBE good. Great game though, as it was actually closer than the final score indicated (31-7). The Bears Den will be ROCKIN again for sure Friday. This weeks matchup should be no problem for the Bears super-speedy arsenal. Don’t DARE overlook those mighty Griffin Bears. I sorta feel sorry for poor Forest Park, but i’m sure they are gamers and will show up ready…..just sayin…Get on Board the AIR-BEAR EXPRESS!!!

Just for the record, wolverine fan- your defense is pretty good and your LBs are impressive…but I saw a different game than you in regard to our running backs. You boys made us work hard and had some nice stops…but I’d say overall we faired pretty well. Can’t recall our total rushing yards but I feel safe saying it was over 200.
With #5, it seems it’s not a matter of “if” but just a matter of “when” he’s gonna bust one. Got a nice long one against you boys and iced the game against EP with a 35 yarder late…which came after he made an uncharacteristic fumble. Just a special kid and a complete running back from a physical, mental and heart standpoint.
Nobody in Blue and Gold was still in ice a week after the WS game. You boys hit hard and played hard but IMO, EP hit just a bit harder. Gonna be a war between you two the last week of the season!

Bowdon @ Darlington is the game to look at in class A. Two teams fighting dog it dog style. Bowdon beat them 12-6 last year, but Darlington could have came back at anytime. Cannon – Come join the TLP party! You should sit on the Etowah side only because you will be sitting on the far side the following week. Tomorrow night will be a War in the trenches. IF Etowah can control the line of scrimmage and keep the “fabled” LBs in check with a few long pass plays, then Etowah will move the ball. We were able to move it on McEachern, just couldn’t punch it in.

Can’t wait to get back to see me some good ole ball.
Cannon/EP people. If yah do come to the game tomorrow I’d say sit on the home sides because you’ll see that the away stands are extreamly small and will be overflowing with people from Woodstock.
HomeFieldAdvantage. Thank you. Glad to see that O’B still has some respect down here. His defence is one of the reason’s we’ve truely done so well as of late. He’s also got a great Defencive cordinator in Coach Buddy who is just amazing. I played in the middle school team back when and they start teaching the defence to yah then so by the time your an upperclassmen you know it back and forth. Heck, I know it and i stop playing after 8th grade. haha. VSU is just being inconsistant. I’ve traded my marching uniform in for the flame head down here so I know the team a little and they’re got the potential. The game against Southern Arkansas proved that. Its alot of just if they push themself enough at the begining of the game and dont come out there exspecting to be handed the victory. But back to high school..haha. I’m pretty proud to say i’m going to the 2 best rivally games in GA which happen to be week after week. So where should i get tickets for the Winnersville match? I’d rather not get stuck behind the middle schoolers like i was for your first home game this year. haha.

Hey Wolverine Fan, what did you expect, a ticker tape parade? We take a lot of pride of our “BONEYARD”. What you see is what a few dad’s do for free. The field preperations, volunteers; the pregame festivities, volunteers, we love our Raiders. Don’t know what you expecting last year. I’m sure you were elated that we lost to McEachern. They are a very good football team. We were warned about their receivers and that’s what beat us. I don’t think we should have lost. We had fumbles that could have turned the game around but they beat us. That happens in high school football games. You fumble, you just may lose. I like to think we are a better team than that but that’s what happens.
I’ve seen Wolverine stadium. Wow, cookie cutter to say the least. I’m not even THE CANNON RULES but if this annoys you…TICK TICK TICK BOOM. It’s gonna suck when we beat you at the what? Wolverine Den? Is that the name of your cookie cutter?

Glad to see some EP fans on here defending the Raider honor. Yes EP may not have the nicest place in the state but hey guess what. A boneyard isn’t suppose to look nice now is it. I don’t see how Marietta is better than last year, but we will see Friday night. I’m gonna say those boys from the city get hit in the mouth and they go into hiding and don’t come out for anymore. As for woodstock and Etowah. I was at the Etowah/McEachern game this year. Etowah just looked smaller than last year and they aren’t as fast as last year. We will see if that Split Back Veer ever gets to running right. Woodstock yes you beat us at home last year, you do have bragging rights. As far as harrison goes, all ya have to do to beat them is put 9 guys in the box and make em sling it, they can’t, don’t see how they got past a fast south cobb team. But hey thats why they play the games. TICK TICK TICK BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

first off, how can you claim you are STILL the best when you were not even the best to start with? HA.. Secondly, your hilarious mis-worded quote shows you obviously went to SWD.. (notice I did not say “graduated”)
“….Just know that if Griffin is still in it come playoff time we coming for retribution and thats plain and simple”
Oh we’ll be in it (again!) And your retribution wishes shall be bashed (again!). We will get home-field advantage (again!). You have already been beaten once this year, and probably will be (again!). EP guys – The wolverine guys are right. If you want to see the game Etowah’s side works best, just not enough room on the visitor’s side, and they will bring fans like it is a home game. However seating will be at a premium. A good spot along the fence up top usually works, but may get two or three deep. The student fans may be a little lighter with school on break this week. We shall see?
You guys seem to like us better anyway, not sure why, you will see what you get to look forward to after we thump Woodstock.

Hey Bone Yard dad//////Sorry if I hit a nerve. I remember some of the EP bloggers last year making statements that the Bone yard was the Caddilac of High School stadiums. I just did not see it. You are correct in saying that the Wolverine Den (or the Rock as some people call it) is a cookie cutter. I am sorry you feel that you should not have lost to McEarchern, I am sure if you had 2 more quarters to play you would have probably won. When you visit the Rock get ready to hear HAIL TO THE VICTORS until ya can’t stand it.

To Bear Backer, Dekalb county will expose you for the fraud that you are again this year. You barely beat SWD on your home field with their leading rusher out for the season and soon as you played Tucker who was at full strength, well your high powered offense sputtered embarassingly I must say. You would not beat any of the big 3 in region 6AAAA this year Marist,Tucker or SWD so enjoy beating up the teams on your regular season schedule because if you meet someone from region 6AAAA in the playoffs the party will be over.

Most of you guys will be at the games tonight so record the Newnan and Creekside game . Alec Ogletree is the hardest hitting safety I’ve ever seen. He may not get much action because the defensive line and linebackers are so fast and not much get by them. Creekside are no stiffs but Newnan is so good it may seem that way.

Bear Backer:
I’ve been to Griffin and half of your city’s population are either in a gang or missing teeth. If anyone lacks education it is YOU GUYS. Your head coach doesn’t even speak proper ENGLISH. He speaks with somewhat of a REDNECK dialect. Projects are everywhere. SWD is almost as wealthy as Tucker and Dunwoody areas in Dekalb. Please believe you can get the whoop stick come playoff time. The only good thing to do in Griffin is play the lottery!!!
Southwest Dekalb Still Best in AAAA
September 25th, 2009
12:19 pm
Due to the fact that Bear Backer requests that I state my views in proper english, I will honor his request. Statistically at the beginnig of the season the experts rated us #1 in region AAAA. We lost our first contest against a AAAAA team in MLK 13-9 . MLK is AAAAA so to say that we have not honored our top ranking is inaccurate. We are 3-0 in region play and are not at full strength we have a QB who has yet to return. I will not get into the fact that we have Ken Malcolm , T.J Stripling, Jonathan Mincy,Sharrod Golightly, and Marcques Dixon who is proving to be one of the best athletes in Dekalb County. So Griffin we ready when yall want it come this winter whether its on our field your field or in the dome.

It’s way too early in the season to pick the order that the teams will finish in Region 5AAAAA but don’t count Harrison out. As for our non conference loss to Peachtree Ridge, I doubt any team in this region would have walked away with a win against them.

To rwdekalbfan : Hey, I sure got you guys riled up eh? It was what I meant to do. But yes you are right about most of your points. Griffin will probably get beat again this year in the playoffs, especially If history is any indicator. I am pulling for them anyway. I know SWD is a good school and has many fine athletes. I do not take it lightly when someone bashes our Bears or Griffin, especially when it is vitriol spewed like “Region 6AAAA” garbage. : I will not give you your due thanks to your racist comments. So what …we don’t have a Black coach…what difference does that make? You sir (or m’aam) are wrong for that. Plain and simple. I will put my degree and intellect up against your sophomoric attempts ANY TIME. And feel free to look up the big words you don’t understand. Or get someone who knows how to do it.
And finally to: Southwest Dekalb Still Best in AAAA : I also commend you on at least being civil about my intentions to get you guys riled up. I will be the first to apologize if my meager attempt to stir things up a tad hurt your feelings. We don’t want that now do we? All in FUN people….good grief. At any rate…Good luck to SWD this weekend (if you guys don’t have a bye). I will also admit that SWD is overall probably the better team this year, regardless of record to this point. Griffin is indeed in a weak region, but hey….we play EACH AND EVERY game HARD, and WE WIN A LOT. Do not begrudge the Kids for where they were born and raised. At least we are not is South GA harvesting yams or what ever it is they do down there! Oh my here we go again – lol!

All the smack talk is good, I enjoy it, but if things go wrong for your team, don’t join the Witness Protection Program. BTW, hope everyone made it thru the floods this past week.
Region 6AAAA: Did you grow up in the Birmingham area or did you go to Samford on scholarship? Curiosity compels me to ask because you don’t run into a Samford alum every day. I know they have a kid on the football team from P’tree Ridge.

So with tonight wrapping up looks like if things go right we move up in the polls due to the fact that the untested Tucker lost in its first true test of the season. But North Springs were great competitors true warriors fighters to the end. But our mixture of speed and aggressiveness on defense proved to be too much for the Spartans. Switching regions I am surprised at the success Avondale is having this year. Good luck next week to teams who came up short. As for SWD we have a bye week and we coming out of it better than ever. Tucker and Marist are going to be good games.

Marist game was not even as close as the score suggests. Marist dominated from the start (scoring on third play of the game), and Tucker defense was on its heals all night. Tucker offense looked out of sync — Tucker quarterback made some great throws when not under pressure, but his wideouts could not hold onto anything.

Take these post for what they are…Good natured fun blogging for and about our teams. I have not missed an East game in over 4 years now both Home & away. Tonights game was tough with all our county has just came thru and it showed on the kids. They fought hard and came away with a win against Marietta 9 to 0.
You are obviously NOT a RAIDER fan so why not post about whichever Paulding team you support. The Hornets are 4/0 and both North and South Paulding are playing good being still relatively new schools.
Paulding County High has the same issues they have had for years and without administration changes probably will not field a winning program for a while.

The Cannon Rules…..I was wondering when you would give me grief!! I still can’t believe it either!! The first sign that it was going to be a bad night, was when the scoreboard did not work!! Then we had two fumbles in a row!! Absolutely the worst I have seen Harrison play!
Congrats on the victory over Marietta. I hope in two weeks, we can give a better performance against a very good Woodstock team.

Maybe you can do like Doralee Rhodes suggested: “Why don’t we get a couple of rustlers & beat the **** out of that heifer. Am looking forward to Brookwood-Grayson tilt in 2 weeks. Have seen Grayson play twice, against Warner Robins & South Gwinnett. If the Broncos can mix up the run & pass as well as plug up their defense, they stand a chance.

actually, after about 2 minutes of the ball game and a quick 14-0 in favor of Lowndes, the vikings pretty much nonchallanted through the rest of the game. Especially on offense. Lowndes going through the motions. Qback was off target and when he was on target the receivers would drop the ball. Probably Lowndes worse played game of the season thus far.

Oh yeah! the Bears are 4-0 against AAAA teams. Burke ran Brunswick out of the Bear Den in swagger mood. After Brunswick scored their last touchdown with about 5 seconds left. Burke got the ball back on a onside kick, and did the best play of the game. Took a knee, Final 36-26. How you like that TODD? Who picked AAAA Brunswick to beat AAA Burke Co. Halla at him CHIP!

It was a classic Etowah, Woodstock game. It came down to the very end with special teams finally busting one for a 60+ yard punt return. Great defense won the game for us. Our offense had 4 turnovers and they still only put up 10 points, thats impressive. And EAST you only put up 9 points against Marietta… We put up 38 in less than 3 quarters, we always cruise with a 5 td lead for some respect.

For all those out there who think that the Rams aren’t all they are made out to be, take notice that Parkview had almost 0 rushing yards against them. Parkview’s quarterback threw some amazing passes, including a TD pass while being lifted in the air by a Grayson defensive player. Bottom line, in order to beat Grayson, you better have a quarterback who can pass accurately and think well under pressure, and about half the offense out there as wide receivers.
Teams are putting together everything they’ve got to try to beat Grayson. But the Rams are still winning. And they are winning by playing the same game, the same way every week. The Rams play good football, and they win with a team effort every week. Thats pretty respectable in my eyes.

Stone Mountain beat Lithonia 18 to 15 in one of the best games I’ve ever seen or coach in my hat goes off to my Lithonia boys I love you’ll and will always be my boys. The game was played hard by both teams it went in to over time stone mountain got the ball first and kick a field goal to go up 18-15 Lithonia got the ball drove down to the 2 yard line on 4th down last play of the game qb sneak stop on the 1 stone mountain wins but the hurtful part of that is Lithonia head coach didn’t shake our hands after the game he just walk off with no efforts of showing good sportsmanship and some other coaches and players didn’t either. High School football is a game coaches are in this business to teach young men to always have good character even when lose. But i have no hard feeling towards Lithonia or its coaching staff they have done a great job with those kids. Since I didn’t get a chance to tell the head coach I’ll say here Great Game coach you are doing a great job with those kids. Good luck on the rest of your season.

Wolverine guys – good comments without trash talking .
Hard fought game for sure. Very sloppy offensive play by both teams throughout. I have never seen, not just all the turnovers, but the ball consistently on the ground. A lot predicated by stellar defensive play of both teams.
I thought we had you as well with the late third quarter interception around your 35 I think, and a 10-7 lead. We just couldn’t do anything with it. Play calling, I don’t know? We have become a pass happy team at times. Can you believe how many times we threw in the first quarter alone? Our best receiver was shut down all night.
Finally, I am not sure how, but when you got the field flipped on us and we were pinned deep twice, we may have gotten a little to conservative. At that point, something bad would surely happen. Yes, a punt return for a touchdown. Great run several missed tackles.
Perhaps, we should have taken a safety and a fee kick from the twenty?

First off, Marist walloping Tucker did not surprise me at all. I saw Tucker last week, and even though the Tigers manhandled Miller Grove, I saw the handwriting on the wall. Tucker showed very little discipline, and that will get your butt kicked against a well-coached team like Marist any day of the week. Hats off to the War Eagles for proving my point!
When is anyone going to threaten North Gwinnett???? The Bulldogs dominated in every phase of the game last night – forced turnovers (turned two into scores), stopped Mill Creek three times on downs that I remember, and shut the Hawks down. NG’s offense wasn’t flashy, but it got the job done. Solid squad, and the crowd was into the game from the get-go. That never hurts, either….
North is strong and solid. PRidge, are you still out there?

Northside-Warner Robins 42, Houston County 7.
Will someone please put Valdosta HS on “Alert” for tonight’s game against Warner Robins? I expect the Big Red to bully Valdosta tonight. You heard it from me.
Northside continues the longest regular season home field run in AAAAA. The last time the Northside Eagles lost to a road team at McConnell-Talbert Stadium in Warner Robins was September 20, 1996 against Robert E. Lee HS of Alabama, 16-7. To all Lowndes County Viking fans and the metro Atlanta fans who have jumped upon your bangwagon, Northside is not Peachtree Ridge. There is no place more difficult to win a game than playing Northside at McConnell-Talbert Stadium. I promise you that.

On second thought, save it Tucker posters. Tucker is a public school from DeKalb County. No surprise with the Marist beating.

Sounds like Woodstock & Etowah had a good close game with maybe somes fumbles effecting the outcome and then a long run sealing the victory…that sounds like the EAST McEachern game last week!!!
Congrats to Woodstock for their Win!!!
I see a few post about EAST only scoring 9 points and yep that has got to be corrected fast. But last nights game was not your normal game as we also had scoreboard issues,it didn’t work from the start, and the folks at the game seemed preoccupied…this week in Paulding has just been unbelievable and the fact that the game was played at all was remarkable. The stands were not crowded and it was very quiet compared to a regular RAIDER game. I think the county (as did others) just went thru too much in the last few days!!!
So with that said we will take a win, however low scoring and move on to next weeks Region game with Etowah (at Etowah), looking forward to this one…never been to Etowah’s stadium…
With Woodstock’s win they move (for the time being) into the 2nd position behind McEachern…so next weeks game will have a lot of Region ramifications. South Cobb plays McEachern today at McEachern…let’s hope McEachern is looking ahead and South Cobb can pull of an upset!!!

ENR: I’m glad you clarified the streak, because I know that Parkview won the 2001 state championship game @ McConnell-Talbert stadium. You may want to add “not lost to a non-Houston County school” since 1996 in the regular season.
GoDAWGS: Grayson is very sound fundamentally. They run the ball well, pass infrequently, but efficiently and do not turn the ball over..
Defensively, they take away the run & force turnovers. I’m not saying they are invincible, but there are less than 5 teams that could beat them depending on where the game is.

ENR. I went to the game last night because it was the game closest to my house. As much as I hate to say it, you are right. Tucker lacks discipline and spent most of the game talking trash. How in the world the refs didn’t call some of the unsportman-like conduct is puzzling. I thought I was going to a game to see Tucker thrash them, but ended up being disgusted at the coaching staff from that team for ignoring blatant trash. I started watching the coaches closely when one of their players did some extracurricular stuff that didn’t get called. Not one time were they seen reprimanding the poor conduct. I won’t post numbers on here, but the free safety and one linebacker should have been sitting on the bench and probably would have been ejected if they were from a south GA team. I never have been and never will be a private school supporter, but I guess I should congratulate Marist.

Pretty sure the SMH/ Lithonia was the best game in Region 6AAAA. Even though Lithonia has to wait until next year to try and get their first win since 1988, I have a new found respect for the kids in that program. The head coach is a jerk as he encouraged his kids not to shake our hands after the game when all Stone Mountain did was win it in a hard fought OT game. I dont respect the coaches for being sore losers. That was a big win for the Pirates, which ties them with Tucker as they are both 4-1 and both lost to Marist. Playoffs look good for the Pirates who were 2-8 in 2007and 3-7 in 2008. This will be my last blog until the playoffs, but before I go let me say the REGION 6AAAA IS THE ROUGHEST TOUGHEST REGION IN THE STATE.

And Warner Robins has turned the corner since the Grayson game But i’m with ENR ,ive seen both play this year and WR is the better team on both sides,it’ll be a good one ….no blow out here…….I don’t think Valdosta’s defense has been tested yet , they will get tested by the Demons ,yes Northside beat them but This years Eagle offense is still under construction and we beat Valdosta with defense and special team play……Our QB Van Brunt ran for 106 yards against Valdosta…….Warner Robins wing T trio of Brian Sutton ,D.J Butts and Jonathan Jackson are each at 8 or 9 yards a carry , they will have a field day against the Cats…….Come on up Yo , you have time ,I have plenty of In-laws who are Cat fans who’ll be up tonight and ill be sitting with them on the visitor side ………Look for the only fool with a white Northside baseball cap mixed in a sea of Black and Gold.

Grayson is getting everything “thrown” at them and surviving everyones best games. Different this year being hunted instead of the hunter. I totally respect what the Grayson coaching staff has done there and their scheme. I do think they are beatable and hope in the playoffs they do not see North Gwinnett or Lowndes on their home fields. Hope they do see Lowndes in the dome. Nothing like a grudge match!!!
I heard Parkview could only practice twice this week with flooding and the head coach’s father passed away Thursday. Rough week for the Panthers. They played their hearts out and I wish them the best the rest of the season.
Brookwood turning a corner? Watching South Gwinnett and that quarterback I am wondering why Brookwood did not try to keep him. Someone said Brookwoods quarterback is a coaches son. I anticipate Brookwood loses to Grayson, Parkview, and South Gwinnett.

Parkview Forever, it sounds a lot like sour grapes on your part. Do you seriously believe a randomly assigned officiating crew could/would be paid off? I was not able to be at the game last night so I did not see the “trick plays” you decribe as “cheap” but I generally observe that people that think a play is a cheap trick are the ones that came out on the losing end of the play. When the play works for their team, it is a brilliant call.
SERIOUS GRAYSON HATER, I don’t know what has you so upset. It is a game for kids played by kids. The world does not revolve around high school football although it is great to enjoy and be involved in. Your anger appears to grow each week. Wouldn’t you much rather be for something instead of always against something?
A general observation for those that claim that Grayson squeeks by each week; a championship team is one that finds a way to win no matter what each week. The Grayson game plan, as others with a much greater feel for the game than me have stated, is to control the ball and run the clock while the defense shuts down the opposing office. This style of play will never consistently generate huge scores. At the end of the season, the win-loss column does not contain point totals, only win totals.
It is great to come hear and read the analysis of those who really watch GA high school football and offer balanced reviews, even when it is critical of the favorites.

“Whatever”: I’m glad you said it, because coming from me it would have seemed petty — some of the Tucker players (particularly No. 1) were as poorly behaved on the field as I have seen in a long time. It is never acceptable conduct, but when you are losing badly it is just plain embarassing. And while I did not see Tucker’s coaches generally trying to control those poor sports, I think Tucker’s head coach is a very classy guy and suspect he would not condone that conduct. And you need to give Marist its full due — not only did Marist win decisively, but its players stayed classy.

I see a few comments about EP only beating marietta by 9 points, well, guess what, they didn’t score any so I think we are ok. The scoreboard wasn’t working at all, so I knew from the start it was gonna be a crazy game. However, throughout the game it seemed as though Marietta wasn’t making any effort to score points except for a 41 yard field goal attempt, that is the deepest they got to in Raider Territory. So if the opposing team looks as if they aren’t trying to score points and are just waning to keep it close, EP ran the ball the entire night except for 2 passes and thats it. No use in trying to extend the game by throwing incomplete passes and such, just keep it on the ground and get the heck out of there. So if you folks think for one minute Marietta put up a fight, NOT SO FAST!!!!! Look forward to making our first trip up to the woodstock area next week to play the Eagles from Etowah. Hopefully our defense can shut down that vaunted Split Back veer triple option offense. Should be a fun game to attend. I know the Raiders will be bringing a slew of folks.

Dont let the score fool you on the stephenson and newton county game. The score could of easily been 35-0. Stephenson killed their self with fumbles(i counted as much as 4-6 fumbles). Including one fumble that they had on their own 10 yard line that led to newtons only score. Also they had fumbles on drives that looked as if they were going to lead to scores. It rained hard but you still cant make those kind of mistakes against a very much improved newton county team that looks very good and no team in region 2AAAAA should overlook. Also penalties killed the jags as they had touchdowns called back of penalties and huge first down penalties on plays that newton was in a 3rd and long type situation. But they wont make any excuses as long as they win. This was though one of the slopiest games i ever watched period by stephenson. They are going to work out the kinks though in practice and get prepared for luella. Oh yeah and dont forget- Do not overlook Newton County.

Nobody’s talking about the Eagles from N. Clayton. There now 5-0 after beating a good Mt. Zion team 34-13. Mt. Zion scored both of their tds after the game was decided in the 4th quarter. They got a RB that wears #10 who should have been a super 11 player coming into the season. I guess i’ll just have to wait until they beat Griffin on October 9th, just like they did last year before the whole state starts to take notice.

I snuck a quick peak at the State 5A playoff brackets.
The coaching staff at Lowndes might want to think about losing a game to avoid going out in the State Quarter-finals.
It would be just awful to see Lowndes go out in the quarter-finals 2 years in a row.
I am pretty sure nobody in the State wants to go play Gainesville, no matter what division they are in.

Well I predicted the Marist-Tucker outcome. This does go to show how the rankings are meaningless except for school pride. Georgia Sports Writers Association, Maxwell Computer Rankings and everybody else says Tucker number 1. The Tucker coach however had stated that they should not have been ranked so high because they havea lot of inexperienced starters and it showed. Tucker has a chance to work out kinks for second half of season, don’t count them out yet.

The cream is starting to rise to the top in AAAA. I stated before the sleepers in AAAA are Hillgrove and North Clayton. Not much is being said about them but they have 2 solid programs. Marist, SWD, Griffin, all playing well and even Stone Mountain starting to get confidence. ant Tucker will work things out before its said and done. Some key games to be played in region 6AAAA in the second half of season, LET THE PLAYOFF POSITIONING BEGIN.

Although Lowndes County posters will not admit it, this is not the first “supposedly” unbeatable and top ranked Viking team to come and face Northside-Warner Robins at McConnell-Talbert Stadium. The last time the Vikings rolled into Warner Robins to face the Northside Eagles with this much hype was in 1997. Lowndes County could taste a second State Championship after waiting almost two decades to jump out of Valdosta’s shadow. The 1997 team was it!
The Vikings had run over teams like Camden County (35-0), Warner Robins (24-14), and beat a strong Valdosta team (14-7). After hangind 36 on Griffin in the 1st round, the Vikings came to the MAC feeling very good. The Vikings left the MAC is a similar way that the Vikings left Grayson last season, although the 1997 certainly left with more dignity. The Vikings had a perfect 11-0 record and faced a 7-4 Northside Eagles team. The result: Northside-Warner Robins 13, Lowndes County 10.
Vikings posters we are not the metro Atlanta program intimidated by a jersey. We face state ranked and nationally ranked powers annually. This is our life! Northside has not lost a regular season game to a visiting team in the regular season since September of 1996. At the MAC, we talk loudly and carry a GIANT stick!
Go Eagles!!!

Congratulations to Coach Tomberlin and the Valdosta Wildcats, who capitalized on two mistakes to beat the Warner Robins Damons. Valdosta 14, Warner Robins 7.
The Wildcats took a fumble and returned it 68 yards for a touchdown with 6 minutes left in teh game. As most of you know Warner Robins runs practically every play. The Demons took the ball at their own 2 yard line and drove the ball all the way down the field, in what appeared to be a game winning drive. The Demons fumbled and the Wildcats returned it to the house.

I’ m glad you think EP is gonna get smacked around by etowah. Because I went and watched etowah and mceachern play earlier this year and etowah doesn’t impress me at all. they aren’t very fast and they have some inexperienced players on that team. If they can survive the first 5 minutes of the ball game they might have a chance. EP beat etowah last year, when they had that offense going, well this year the offense is missing that power back that can break it on the dive play up the gut. I see EPs defense dominating this game, very much so like the Indian defense did back a few weeks ago.

Cowbell – I think you are wrong… maybe not fast, but there is more experience and discipline than you think. The McEachern game was a wake-up call for Etowah. Etowah has fixed a few things defensively. Just ask Woodstock. The winning score was Punt Return. Admittedly, our special teams has some work to do. If the Marietta D held EP to 9 points, then I expect a major defensive battle. Game ON! You South GA bloggers, first let me say that you do have some really good football in the Southern part of the State. I have been reading the argument that football south of Macon is far superior than the metro area; so let me ask you why do you think that your football is better than the Metro Atlanta area? Is it because you think you have better coaching staffs, is it because your kids are fed a different diet, is it because your kids are more disiplined or could it be that you have fewer schools, therefore are able to have bigger programs? How do you think that you would do if you had say 9 or 10 high schools in one County? I am just curious!

Stephenson had too many turn overs and penalties and they played without 5 starters on defense and 3 on offense. Total of 8 starters being out. Injuries and some players being benched for discipline reasons almost cost Stephenson. Don’t count them out yet cause they suffered some key players being out for a game or 2. Newton is underrated I think or they played their best game in years.

Too subtle for Yo, I guess.
Gainesville is an awesome team in 3A. They are a nationally ranked football team that could beat many of the 5A and 4A teams in the top 10 rankings. They have nothing at all to do with the opponent from division 7AAAAA who will put Lowndes out in the quarter-finals again this year. Go take a look yourself. I have never EVER been a fan of Buford.
It will be quite fun to see how Lowndes plays after their 5 hour bus trip to one of the 3 7AAAAA teams in Suwanee GA. It remains to be seen, which team. We have some BIG, FAST “metro” players who are well coached. They have been eating “Wing T” teams for lunch since they were 6 years old. Been there, done that. Have you ever stopped to think about why winning college teams do not run the Wing T? Change your offense, or consider losing a game to get into a different bracket. It is going to be interesting.
By the way, we have book stores here in the Big City. You might consider buying one or two while you are here. Maybe you can get a few tips for your future in Bovine Management.

Anyone who knows GA football knows that the Red Elephants have consistently been a power for more than 30 years. Teams tremble at the thought of going to City Park, and for good reason. And let’s not forget the newbies at Flowery Branch who have done quite well for themselves since the school opened just a few years ago. We all know that Lowndes, N’side, WR and several other SGA teams are powerhouses. BigJag88 How were we outcoached? What can a coach do about 5 uncaused fumbles in the rain. We all see different things during a game and I think it is on the players when they fumble the ball. I was at the game and you are making an excuse if you blame coaching on an OT win on the road. As for Hey, Its funny how you leave out all of the play by play and only include what you want to include. For example the 80 yard KO return by SHS to start the game that was brought back by a penalty or the two fumbles that came inside of newton 20 yard line that would have led to scores. By the way you did not drop two TD passes they were overthrown. the four chances you had to score I believe itS called DEFENSE. If your coach had gotten remotely close to the endzone he would have tried to kick a FG. I will give you credit you have improved from what you used to be, but don’t think that you could pull that result off a second time.

Looks as though the Etowah and Woodstock fans have banded together as county buddies on the blog and that is almost sweet. Hearing Etowah fans say they will beat EP isn’t surprising, nor is hearing the same from the Woodstock folks, since an EP loss simply means they can slide into the region 2 spot a little easier.
I really think that EP doesn’t have a great defense,,,,,however I am primarily pointing to the pass defense which is pretty bad. But give the fact that the Cherokee county teams are really one dimensional (Woostock only attempted 4 passes: all incomplete against McEachern), it will allow EP to cheat pretty heavily against the run. Only if Etowah and Woodstock learn how to loosen a defense by attempting to throw the ball do I see them scoring much.
As far as stopping EP’s offense. Please don’t get overly excited about Marietta holding them to 9 pts. It was a rough week here in Paulding county last week with the flooding. Minds were on damage and losses more then football.
Actually I’d like for McEachern fans to weigh in on who they think might have the advantage of the EP/Etowah/Woodstock bunch, since they’ve played all three.
Looking forward to our first trip to Etowah this Friday. I sense the possiblity of a let down on the part of Etowah, knowing they probably can’t get home field advantage in the playoffs, and that win or lose they are mostly like still going to get in the playoffs. I see EP coming out on top 20-7, as I just don’t think Etowah has enough firepower to put much up offensively.

Sorry, Yo, my prior comments were harsh. I overreacted to your previous implication that I might be a Buford fan. I am willing to recognize the incredible coaching at Buford over the years, but I care nothing for the team due to their history of recruiting from the larger districts around them. The mere thought of being a Buford fan caused me to abandon civility.
I can say there are some pretty good football teams around here. The following school districts are all contiguous: Peachtree Ridge, North Gwinnett, Collins Hill, Buford, Flowery Branch, and Gainesville. 3 of those teams are unbeaten and the other 3 have only 1 loss each. Between them, those teams have 27 wins and 3 losses. There are several choices for fun games to watch on Friday Nights for the locals. Some of the local strength occurs as professional players settle in the area to have families. To deny there is some pretty good football in North Metro reflects poorly on the analytical skills of the poster.
At the same time, anyone with at least 2 brain cells has to recognize the strength and history of football in South Georgia, and the Valdosta area in particular.
I do believe the Wing T may be nearing the end of its usefulness as strong teams begin to exploit its weaknesses in the playoffs. I could be wrong, but it will be interesting to watch. On the other hand, if your favorite team is big enough and fast enough they could even run a Single Wing, and still win.
In the state playoffs this year, the 1AAAAA winner and 7AAAAA winner will likely tangle in the quarter-finals. That is going to be a very tough bracket, and I don’t think any team should count on emerging unscathed. There is a good chance the State 5A Champion will have to come through Suwanee. For that matter, there is a good chance the 3A and 2A champions will be playing quarterfinal games in my backyard also.
The playoffs will be exciting and very fun to watch.

rwdekalbfan: Tucker had a great run at the end of last year, but this year is different. Your team is not nearly as good as last year’s, and Tucker lacks a core of senior quality senior leadership to turn things around. The winner of Marist v. SWD will win 6AAAA, and those two teams might face each other in the Dome, as was the case with Marist and Tucker last year. Griffin is a very high quality AAAA team as well.

Well it looks like Etowah & Woodstock have decided that they are the # 2 & # 3 seeds for Region 5A BEFORE either of them have played EAST!!! Interesting to say the least…they are even talking about Harrison upsetting McEachern to give them a shot at # 1…LOL! Harrison, who barely got by South Cobb who McEachern just beat 48 to 7. Harrison, who just got whipped AT HOME by a winless Kennesaw Mtn. team!… Don’t hold your breath for any help as far as McEachern goes…they are basically on “cruise control” having played AND BEAT Woodstock, Etowah & EAST!
EAST has issues and they show up in every game, they are not as consistent as previous years and have a LONG way to go with their pass defense. But they WILL stop the Etowah run game COLD and force them to pass…with a bit of luck and some strong special teams play EAST should be OK. I look for a VERY close game, give Etowah the home field advantage, but crowds will be about the same as EAST travels HUGE, with good weather and good refs that call a fair game both ways…

Your right we see things different, what I saw was a team adjust to what we were doing and stop it,we had some big plays but so did they. There is nothing coach can do about fumbles in the rain, but it stopped raining in the 1st quarter and how many times did newton County Fumble? None if I remember correctly. We set our self up to get beat by not taking this team serious and we all know this team is on the come up. so if it was defense that kept them out of the endzone, then it was defense that caused all of our fumbles. Coach needs to stop making excuses why it was so close and realize he got OUT COACHED!
Mceachern has another great week

To be honest with you guys..Harrison does have a chance to upset Mceachern…No matter who is the better team that year…anything can happen. It happens all the time in this rival game. However, I believe east paulding is the next best but woodstock has a better defense to me…Still though, I think EP is better coached. Well hopefully powder springs can keep this win streak going! Go Indians and Hawks!!

Northside will beat Lowndes with a team full of junior and sophomore players. It is as simple as that. Viking posters get very sensitive when they have to actually look in the mirror and see the program staring back at them.
Northside is not going to get intimidated in the same manner that most metro Atlanta programs do when playing a program like Lowndes. Lowndes County is no more intimidating than playing a decorated program like Marist. Lowndes County is no more intimidating than playing a decorated program like Valdosta. Lowndes County is no more intimidating than playing a program like Camden County. Lowndes is certainly no more intimidating than playing a program like Warner Robins.
Northside plays these types of programs annually. Northside goes into this game playing a much, much more challenging schedule playing at Valdosta and against Carver-Columbus, who has more NCAA Division I prospects than Northside and Lowndes County.
Northside owns competition at the MAC. This is not trash talk…this is a fact. Why are Lowndes posters so sensitive about the facts. It is a fact that Lowndes has rolled into Warner Robins with similar, if not more, hype in the past. It is a fact that when Lowndes rolled into Warner Robins with so much hype that far worse Northside teams kicked the Vikings around.
It is very, very hard to beat top Georgia programs on the road. When you include travel, it becomes more challenging. Northside at Lowndes in 2008 is an example. Northside at Camden County in 2008 is an example. Lowndes County at Grayson in 2008 is an example. Peachtree Ridge at Lowndes County is an example.
Proclaiming that beating Northside at McConnell-Talbert Stadium is easy because we are the Lowndes County Vikings is borderline insane. If you struggle at Grayson High School, you are going to struggle at the MAC. End of story. Plowboy chatter intimidates Atlanta schools. We are perceived country in WR too.
Northside doesn’t lose to visiting teams at the MAC. That is not trash talk. That is a fact.

Be realistic as you usually are, RealisticEPFan- yes, you folks indeed brought a great crowd and nice sized band to fill the visitor side of Cantrell…but I highly doubt you had more in attendance than the home folks. Visitor stands seat around half of what the home stands seat and the Blue and Gold side was easily more than half full. Add in the students and band from the north stands and it was no contest.
It’s exaggerations such as your attendance comment that keep EP football from really getting the respect it deserves…many of the Raider posters seem to believe that making their program out to be more than it is is a good thing. Let your success on the field stand on its own.
A word to ENR, while I’m here: your comment a while back calling McEachern a “basketball school” shows a huge lack of knowledge on your part. For sure, we’ve been down for the past few seasons…but you must have jumped on the Eagle bandwagon after 1998. Otherwise, you would have actually been in attendance at Cantrell on that beautiful November night when the basketball school came from 21 down to beat your boys…and played for the title in Valdosta 2 weeks later. You were somewhat correct, though- we do tend to put a better than average hoops team on the court, both boys and girls. And the state title banners hanging in the gym reveal that we’re also a track and wrestling school, too.

RealisticEpFan- got long-winded on my first post but wanted to share my take on Woodstock/Etowah/EP, since you asked.
I think it helped getting Etowah early, as I am sure they have tightened up their defense. Two of our scores against them were from special teams, also. They got a drive or two going on offense but never showed any consistency in our game.
Woodstock just rammed it down our throats…and the fact we seemed to think we could just show up and hang 40 on anybody didn’t help us. They made crucial mistakes twice inside our 5 that could have made the comeback all but impossible. They had much more speed and hit much harder than Etowah, IMO.
EP used the Wing-T wisely, attacking our tendency to over-pursue with the counter and that sweet little inside reverse that we also ran so well back in the Dorsey era. I personally think your speed will be the difference against Etowah, assuming no foot-shooting happens with turnovers, etc. Ep vs. Woodstock will be a war…not gonna pick that one.
Our #5 got his against all three teams…but I’d say he will against almost anyone. Our ability to throw it and throw it well has been the difference in every game…and really allows #5 to run wild. The inability to throw it decently is what prevents WS/Et/EP from really being explosive…but that’s pretty much the case for anyone outside of Lowndes.

Enter your comments here Eagle nation rising you have matured into a complete idiot with all the trimmings. The game between Lowndes and Ns will be decided by maturity and mistake free football. Forget that it is a fact it is hard to beat teams on their own field. Lowndes has done it all year and i expect it to happen again. Excuse me mister idiot but what was last years score? Enough said!

Yo: whatever you habe to say to feel good about yourself, buddy. Nobody on this end’s buying a dam OR waterlogged real estate from you or anyone else. As Suwanee Owns has pointed out, the simple fact of the matter is that outside of Recruits-R-Us, AKA Buford, there is a cell of hellaciously good football in Gwinnett & Hall, and Jackson County is becoming a sleeper cell as well, with Jefferson on the rise again, Jackson County rising from obscurity and East Jackson kicking ass & taking names. Never ragged on s.GA ball, pal. Seen too much of it over the years not to have a great deal of respect for many programs below the Gnat Line.

It aint gonna be no cakewalk Lowndes, you will be in one hostile
environment, very few ever encounter, all the talking will be done on the field so we’ll leave it to them how it turns out, good luck to both teams and no injuries cause for playoff teams it is a long season and both these teams are playoff bound!

Usually your post are hard to respond to as you mostly like to condemn the EAST fans for VOCALLY supporting our team. But this time you actually tried to discuss the game a bit (after of course you took your shot at our fans again). Yes, the McEachern student section was fairly full but let’s be fair the band took half the student section up. The home side was a different story as it was maybe 60% filled and as you stated, the home side is much larger than the visitor section, also ya’ll had one of the QUIETEST crowds we have ever played against!!! The EAST side was much more supportive (read into that VOCAL) all night long than your home side.
Even your announcer at the end of the game stated this was one of the hardest fought games he had seen and all the players deserved to be congratulated. That by the way was VERY professional and classy on his part!
We don’t know what to expect at Etowah as EAST has not traveled there but to give you a good example of what happens at last years North Cobb/EAST game that was played at North Cobb, the EAST fans FILLED the stands to SRO early and spilled out around the fences. The concession stand ran out of hamburgers and hot dogs BEFORE half time and told us they were SHOCKED at the turnout EAST brought. WE support our RAIDERS and if that bothers you SO BE IT!!!!
GO RAIDERS!!! TICK…TICK…TICK…BOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!

Wolverine fan, I’m a Stephenson fan but i did see the MLK VS. NORTH COBB game at hallford in Dekalb, and MLK waxed North Cobb’s ass!!! I wasn’t that impressed with N. COBB, but then again MLK’s team is pretty TOUGH. They have some good players but MLK’s speed and aggressiveness was TOO MUCH for the warriors…That game wasn’t even close.. MLK blasted them 49 – 12!

Who cares how many hotdogs and hamburgers you can eat, If you want to continue to believe that ep fans outnumber MHS fans at MHS thats fine, but one thing i will say for sure, ep fans where bailing out well before the clock struck zero.
As for my pick for #2 i would have to say Woodstock, and for #3 i have no idea.

Cannon Rules-
I love it when a program- any program- has the intense vocal support from its fans that EP has. The only time I have an issue with such is when it deviates from the truth. Of course, I don’t generally accept ANY deviation from truth, no matter the cause or the means in which it is delivered. It seems you agree that the statement made about EP having more fans in Cantrell than the home team was an exaggeration; if you read that as me “taking a shot at your fans,” then so be it- it’s not intended to be but I can’t change you and ain’t gonna try. I won’t argue that you folks were more vocal on a per capita basis; your support is well known, like many other programs in Georgia. I would think the Mac crowd would be more rabid, seeing how we had fallen off for a few seasons from what we were used to. My only thought is that it must take more than 3-4 seasons of mediocrity for folks to forget how it used to be and really appreciate having things rolling again. Believe me- we were the EP of the middle 1980s, going from being a program that had a losing season generally every year and only a single playoff appearance in 25 years to one that made it to at least game 11 every year. Our fans were loud, early and often. Winning never, ever gets old…but ya do get used to it. This will be the next stop for your program and if your ever have a 5-5 or 4-6 season, that rabid fan base will be calling for heads to roll. With us, it didn’t happen until the man had been here 24 years and had already planned to hang it up.
Thanks for your comments about Coach Davis- he has worked the PA microphone at Cantrell for decades and yes, he is a natural for the job and a classy, classy gentleman. You can also hear him at the Georgia Dome for the Kell Classic at the beginning of each season and the Finals (used to be the semis) at the end. I agree completely with his take on our game- it was a hard-fought battle by both teams and every person who was a part of it should be thanked for the effort expended. It was the kind of game that sets our state apart.
