It’s almost midseason, enough time to recognize that some teams are much better than they were in 2008. Rather than risk our bias on selecting the most improved teams, the GHSF Daily staff decided to take a scientific approach. We asked Loren Maxwell, who does the Maxwell Computer Ratings, to compare teams from 2008 and 2009 and give us a list of the most improved.
First, a little explanation. We’re going to have two kinds of most-improved. The first is for teams that were below .500 last season. The other is for teams .500 or better. Why? It’s easier to improve on a bad team, and we want to recognize both kinds of improvement.
We’re not giving you the complete computer breakdown, as Maxwell actually quantifies how much better (or worse) each team is. Lowndes, for example, is 8.28 points better than last season.
Congratulations to these teams that appear to be much improved in 2009:
Class AAAAA (.500 or better in 2008)
Class AAAAA (sub-.500 in 2008)
Class AAAA (.500 or better in 2008)
Class AAAA (sub-.500 in 2008)
Class AAA (.500 or better in 2008)
Class AAA (sub-.500 in 2008)
Class AA (.500 or better in 2008)
Class AA (sub-.500 in 2008)
Class A (.500 or better in 2008)
Class A (sub-.500 in 2008)
