Unbeaten, untied, unranked: Where’s Lassiter? Roswell? Hiram?

Before we get to the rankings, which didn’t change a bunch this week, let’s give some credit to those unbeaten teams that aren’t ranked.

In fact, it might be fun if I went out on a line and ranked them:

Class AAAAA: Roswell, Lassiter, Collins Hill, Walton, Creekside, Union Grove

Class AAAA: Hiram, Dutchtown, Lakeside-Evans, Hardaway

Class AAA: Jackson, Grady, Monroe, Mary Persons, Elbert County, Jackson County

Class AA: Blessed Trinity, Swainsboro, Appling County, Chattooga, East Jackson, Benedictine, North Oconee, Berrien

Class A: Greenville, Marion County, Mount Paran

To the real rankings, we jumped McEachern a spot for its fourth straight victory over a 2008 playoff team in AAAAA. Should Peachtree Ridge and Camden County hold on to Top 10 rankings when a half-dozen unbeaten teams are unranked?

Apalachee and Marist joined AAAA in place of Clarke Central and Mount Zion. Will someone bravely post this week that we were right not to rank Mays last week?

In AAA, WaCo jumped a spot for blowing out what we thought was a very good Troup team. No change in AA.

In Class A, if anyone would like to take a stab at it, be our guest. After Wilkinson County lost to Savannah Country Day, you might as well draw names from a hat after Wesleyan and Savannah Country Day to rank them 3-10.

With questionable officiating, South barely gets beat by #2 Grayson and only has one loss. I’d put them in the poll ahead of Camden, but there are many other deserving teams. Camden may of had a tough schedule, but they lost. Last I checked, it was about winning the games, not could of won the games.

*Note* Peachtree Ridge lost to the #1 team in the state, Camden lost to the #2 team in Georgia and a top 5-10 team in Alabama. It’s not like they went out and lost to easy opponents.

I’m not a Camden county fan, but their losses have been at the hands of powerhouses from other states, not some local regional rival. Do they deserve to be in the top 10? Time will tell.

To those disrespecting Camden at #10 — they will not lose again in the regular season and should be in the quarter finals.

To those saying Lowndes is over rated — of course they can’t be under rated!!!

To Roswell and Walton Fans wondering why they are unranked at 4-0 — only Roswell has beaten a team with a winning record (Centennial). Whoever comes out of this region unblemished (which I predict will not happen) should be a top five team. But there is a lot of football to be played. Don’t be surprised if three teams come out of region play at 8-1.

For those criticizing the choice of Camden at No. 10, let me ask you this.

Rank every team in Georgia 1-400. Would you rank Mount Paran Christian (4-0) ahead of Camden County (1-2)?

If so, you’re saying W-L record is more important than considering strength of schedule and common sense. Which is fine. But it doesn’t tell readers the truth.

If you rank Camden ahead of Mount Paran, you’re conceding that some 1-2 teams need to be ahead of some undefeated teams. That’s the route I choose.

None of those unranked unbeatens (Lassiter, Roswell, etc..) has done anything to indicate that they are better than Camden because, unlike Camden, they have not played two teams that are ranked in the top 20 nationally by some polls.

Camden County has performed as one would expect the No. 10 team in Georgia to perform through three games. It’s a team that consisently finishes in the Top 10 that has lost two games to the No. 2 team in Georgia and the No. 2 team in Alabama, each time down to the wire.

I see there’s a lot of Camden bashing going on today and there’s nothing wrong with that, remember this site is for fun right. I live here in Camden and we’re not use to losing like we’ve lost this year, our record could very well be 0-3, but then again it could be 3-0. All the games have been close and a play here or there has determined the outcome of each game this year. Should Camden be still ranked in the top 10 with a 1-2 record? Probably not, but that doesn’t really matter right now it just makes good online talk for those who dislike the Wildcats.lol Hopefully the two early season loses will bring this team together and come Nov. as Mr. Yo stated Camden will be a team that not many teams will want to see on the other sideline.

Todd:
Also, when looking at ranking teams you have to look at future potential, and Camden is definitely a team that should be around for a while in the playoffs. We all know that Camden will now run the table in Region 3-AAAAA and grab the top spot. They will play the No. 4 team from Region 2-AAAAA, which will be either Redan or Union Grove (sorry, but I still think MLK and Stephenson are the teams to beat). They will win and then face the No. 2 team from Region 1-AAAAA, which they have a good shot at winning and from there they will meet McEachern, which they can also beat.
In all, Camden is a top 10 team in AAAAA on this day and they will be in the top 10 when the season is over. Some of these teams that people are lobbying for with the unbeaten records, will they be around come the second or quarterfinals round of the state playoffs? Probably not.

reguardless of the record, Camden County deserves to be in the top 10. They loss barely to a strong Grayson team and to Hoover Alabama. Both of those teams are tough teams to beat in the country. There aren’t too many teams that you can put in front of them that could be any better. Now that they are into their regional games, you know they aren’t going to lose anymore game. You have possibly the toughest team in the state in Camden, playing in the worse conference in the state with all of these Savannah teams.

Chattooga may have a little something for a change, new coach may have lit a fire under their butt. Still it is early in the year, let’s see how the sub region games start to shake out. Anyone with their mind on something other that the current game can lose on a Friday night.

The rankings are supposed to be the ten best teams in the state. Nothing has happened this year to show that Camden isn’t one of the ten best teams in Georgia. Ask any of those teams people are talking about because they aren’t ranked if they think they could seriously beat Camden. I’d put my money on Camden vs Roswell, a slow Walton team, or any other team in region 6-AAAAA. Year after year after year!

YO – Colquitt was pretty good don’t you think? Their line stood up to Lowndes better than Peachtreee Ridge’s did. They have a very fast running back. They will surprise some 1-AAAAA teams before the season is over. They should beat WR, Houston, Tift, and Coffee, and maybe upset either Valdosta or NSWR. I look for them to finish 3rd or 4th. in the region. But their stadium still sux! Worst in the region.

Griffin’s the fastest team in the state- and it’s not even close. Their OLine and DLine dominate, their running game is great and their QB’s (that’s right-multiple QB’s) can run and sling it. Can’t wait for Griffin to actually play someone who will force them to play their starters more than one or two quarters.

For the sake of argument, let’s change the rest of Camden County’s schedule so that they play the other teams in that Top 10 list. They could finish the season as 1-9 in my revised schedule. But remember, they played Grayson close, and came within a gnat’s eyelash of beating the #2 team in Alabama. I dare say, Camden County could beat any team not on that list, and they might be able to beat several teams on that list. P Ridge is in a simlar situation.

Believe me, either P Ridge or Camden County would make short work of Roswell or Lassiter. For that matter, I suspect both teams could beat Newnan, McEachern, Stephenson, or MLK. And we are going to get to find out, when P Rdige plays North at the end of the season. In my view, that game is a toss-up. Losing to Lowndes does not mean you are an awful football team. Pretty much any school in the state would have a loss if they put Lowndes on their schedule.

It pains me to speak well of Lowndes and Camden County, but those are just the facts. For those arguing how great their teams are, just hope you do not have Lowndes, P Ridge, or Camden County as an early playoof opponent, or your team will look bad also.

If anything, the early tough opponents will make these teams even MORE formidable in the playoffs. There is a lot of football left to play. Even a team like Washington can beat a team like USC on the right day. Let’s wait and see how the season unfolds.

Kir. Have never smoked and I don’t drink just watch a lot of football. To answer your question yes I think any team that has good talent and a solid coaching staff can beat the jaguars. Everyone across the state knows the jaguars as well as swd have plenty of talent but lack coaching. So yes union grove can win. I will be there

Tell The Truth

September 21st, 2009

Drock09: You make it seem like just any team can beat Stephenson. I think they deserve a little more respect than that. Look at their playoff losses since 2000:

2000- Collins Hill 20-0
2001- Valdosta 31-28
2002- Camden 21-20
2003- Camden 26-0
2004- Lowndes 43-0
2005- Lowndes 20-0
2006- Peachtree Ridge 12-9
2007- East Coweta 14-7
2008- Coffee 17-14

Not exactly the Little Sisters of the Poor. There is not a team on that list upon who make you scratch your head and say, “How did they lose to them.” Stephenson very rarely loses to a team that it should beat during the regular season. From 03-’06 they lost to the team that won the AAAAA championship. In ’04 they did have a win over your Newnan team in the first round of the playoffs. Remember Union Grove started last season 7-0 before running into Stephenson and MLK, and the games weren’t even close. In fact, Union Grove closes of the three previous meeting was 13-3 in 2006.
Please offer some facts of why we should expect a Union Grove win. No, I am not affiliated with Stephenson, just curious to see why everybody thinks they are the worst AAAAA team in the state. From looking at there record by opponent, I haven’t found a bad team that they have lost too.

Enough of justifying Camden in the rankings… Todd asked the question in the original post. Most of us in the North/Metro area (primarily R5 & R6) would prefer to see one of the undefeateds take Camden’s place. It will sort itself out at the end. Kudos to Camden for playing a tough out of region schedule. Had they won those two games, we would be haggling over whether they should be #1. Instead they lost those two games and it should cost them a Top 10 ranking, IMHO. They can certainly get it back come playoff time

I agree with Todd Holcomb.. Not only do you look at the team win loss record, but you also look at the strength of schedule. Camden County played and lost against nationally ranked teams. And for all of those bloggers speaking so badly about Region 3-AAAAA. Bradwell Institute is number in Region 3-AAAAA right now anyway. (Todd, you should do a post about the best traditions like this in the state) Ask your seniors who painted it highligher yellow over the weekend. Which was dumb because the game isn’t even at Woodstock this year. Made sense to do it the morning before in ‘06 cuz you didn’t know if we could repaint it and knew we wouldn’t dare run out from a gold and royal woodshed. Dumb move on ya’ll part this year. And yes, The Battle for TLP has fallen on fall break and during the 2nd flooding of the world it seems. But I know that all the Woodstock and Etowah Alumni down here at V-State will be making the trip up to see the game. Some are even skipping some classes. haha. So its going to be crazy as always =) . Woodstock and Etowah and in the same city, on neighboring hills less than a mile apart. We share the main road. Both kids go to the same Chick-fil-a every morning. They have to start Etowah a hour early so that the traffic wont be packed for when Woodstock starts. It gets intense up in the Wood this week. Believe me when I tell you, Etowah will be ready, and they match up very well against Woodstock. Reeze, I agree with your statements. I just wanted him to know that Hiram actually had some players over there. Last year, the team was young and you never knew what team what show up. This year, they have put it together, they have senior leadership and some guys that can flat out play. The coach hasn’t opened up the playbook yet but they are still avg 40 pts. They had to respond to adversity(bad off play) against NW Whitfield but overcame that and scored 19 unanswered points after halftime. I expect both teams to be undefeated when they meet.

The 2009 Lowndes Vikings seem to be on a mission. In 10 years as a season ticket holder, I have never seen a more unified team. They are playing this year with something that was lacking last year. After watching the first 4 games, I’m not positive they will go undefeated in region play, but I do feel they will be wearing the ring come Christmas. It’s like watching a fine tuned machine. We will see what happens with the NSWR and Valdosta games, both could go either way.

I would feel better about the NSWR game if it were being played at Martin Stadium. As far as Valdosta, I don’t care if they are 0 and 9 going into that game, they always play the Vikings like they are out for blood.

Greetings VikingsOnAMission,

I have to agree with you. This 2009 Lowndes County Football Team is the team to beat this year. I doubt if anyone in the State or any where else could beat them this year. This Lowndes County team this year is like the Camden County team of last year. I said it all season long last year about Camden County, and was right. Even Lowndes County of last year would not have beaten that Camden County team if they played each other. Now, I am saying this:

No one this year will beat Lowndes County. That Lowndes County Viking football is Mammonth in size, they are very strong, they are very physical, they are very fast. I’m telling you now that no one will beat them this year. In addition; they haven’t forgotten about last year when they played Grayson. They had to carry that lost on their shoulders for an entire year, in addition that was a very tough pill that Lowndes county had to swallow.

Now I am from Region 3-AAAAA, and I am a Bradwell Institute Fan. I am being very realistic here, and I’m telling everyone that if you really think that Grayson will beat Lowndes County this year, you had better think again. I wouldn’t bet on Grayson beating Lowndes County this year, and that’s for sure.

Wolverine2Blazer calls this week’s game between Etowah and Woodstock the battle of the TLP. Does that mean “THIRD OR LAST PLACE?” Only two things I know about Woodstock is the coach used to coach at Valdosta and won a title there, and the other is Janis Joplin. (That is the same Woodstock, right?) Never heard of “Etowah” till they had a pretty good team last year. East Paulding will probably beat both of’em. Especially if they let HeadEast suit up.

VikingsOnAMission – this is about the most versatile team I’ve ever seen Lowndes have, besides being its biggest and fastest.
