Unbeaten, untied, unranked: Where’s Lassiter? Roswell? Hiram?

Before we get to the rankings, which didn’t change a bunch this week, let’s give some credit to those unbeaten teams that aren’t ranked.

In fact, it might be fun if I went out on a line and ranked them:

Class AAAAA: Roswell, Lassiter, Collins Hill, Walton, Creekside, Union Grove

Class AAAA: Hiram, Dutchtown, Lakeside-Evans, Hardaway

Class AAA: Jackson, Grady, Monroe, Mary Persons, Elbert County, Jackson County

Class AA: Blessed Trinity, Swainsboro, Appling County, Chattooga, East Jackson, Benedictine, North Oconee, Berrien

Class A: Greenville, Marion County, Mount Paran

To the real rankings, we jumped McEachern a spot for its fourth straight victory over a 2008 playoff team in AAAAA. Should Peachtree Ridge and Camden County hold on to Top 10 rankings when a half-dozen unbeaten teams are unranked?

Apalachee and Marist joined AAAA in place of Clarke Central and Mount Zion. Will someone bravely post this week that we were right not to rank Mays last week?

In AAA, WaCo jumped a spot for blowing out what we thought was a very good Troup team. No change in AA.

In Class A, if anyone would like to take a stab at it, be our guest. After Wilkinson County lost to Savannah Country Day, you might as well draw names from a hat after Wesleyan and Savannah Country Day to rank them 3-10.

I like the jump for McEachern. McE should now be able to coast to the Region 5-AAAAA title except that Harrison might be able to play spoiler.

Nice try on the honorable mention for the Region 6-AAAAA undefeateds. Didn’t you have Walton ranked in the beginning? The slight will only get worse as all three (Walton, Roswell, Lassiter) should still be undefeated this time next week… and all three have some recent playoff pedigree.

Interesting… the only difference (aside from the order) in the teams from this week’s rankings and preseason is McEachern for Etowah. I think you have drop Camden and pick-up one of the undefeateds.

Its possible that Hiram will go undefeated until the big matchup against Hillgrove on Oct. 23rd. Should be a pretty good game with Hiram averaging 40 pts per game on offense.

this is my take Hiram has 4 to 5 good players on there team where Hillgrove has 15 to 18 good players that make plays and 10 or more college players on the field at any given time.

johnson111, on offense I think all of Hiram’s skill players can break one at any given time. The 3 backs are good and all Jrs. The WR is 1st Team Region 7aaaa. The QB is a Jr and becoming more polished and is already getting looks from schools. IF there is a weakness, its at the line(undersized/young). Defense is better than expected with one 2nd team Region 7aaaa and one honorable mention. The defense is full of speed. Hiram has about 5 seniors that will play ball next year at some level.

I must admit that I haven’t seen Hillgrove play this year, but I know they are talented. I did witness the game last year, but the weather was horrible and Days got hurt. Living in Hiram, I have seen most of these boys grow up from playing rec ball, middle school and now high school and I am not shocked by the success of Hillgrove.

I can make an argument for union grove or creekside. I actually think the wolverines will win the region this year. Creekside returns 16 starters off a playoff team last year.

woah, woah, woah…how dare even put collins hill and ranked in the same sentence… they may been undefeated by squeezed by their first 3 games by unranked an terrible opponents by less than 7 points in nail bitters as easy as they are 4-0 they could EASILY have been 1-3.

I think those polls are pretty accurate, sure Camden and Peachtree should hold on to their #9 & #10 spots. Camden had the toughest first three game schedule than anybody in the state granted and granted they lost a lot players from the state championship team they played all those games tough & close the young cats just cant close a game out. And all those teams you’re considering for the #9 & #10 would have been blow out and would have been 0-3 if they would have played Camden schedule. Peachtree is still a good team and will make it deep into the playoffs again this yr, Lowndes is just on a mission this yr. If they have passing qb this yr like everybody says, then entire state better watch out.

john mayor: I don’t think I would call Parkview terrible. They are a playoff team in Region 8-AAAAA. As far as Collins Hill playing terrible teams, at least they have played AAAAA teams with a record of 7-9. The other teams mentioned have played cupcakes. Roswell (5-11), Lassiter (4-12, including a 2-2 AAAA Sprayberry), Walton (2-14), Creekside (6-9, with a 1-2 AAAA team) & Union Grove (2-9 with no AAAAA teams). I feel certain all of these will be playoff teams in their respective regions. We will find out about Collins Hill when they play P’Tree Ridge, Creekside when they play Newnan, and Union Grove when they play Stephenson & MLK.

It is very hard to take you rankings seriously or give creditability to them when you place a team with two losses at #10, while unbeaten teams are unranked. At this point they mean nothing.

footballfan….I agree, somewhat. Look at the teams that Camden County has played. Not an easy schedule for those guys. CC is still a very good squad with alot of talent. I wonder if some of the teams in the rankings could have faired any better with the teams CC had to play. The rankings are a good subject of debate. However, they are always changing, therefore, not infallible!
Etowah Fan…Thanks for the vote of confidence of Harrison being a spoiler. I sure hope you are right. I think the best week in football for the 5AAAAA teams, will be the last week of the season. Etowah at Harrison could decide the last spot for the play-offs, and East Paulding at Woodstock should have implications as well. Meanwhile, the rest of the season should be fun as well.

You were right to not rank an overrated Mays squad. They won’t make the playoffs this year either. Their sub-region has a couple of sleepers in it that will probably knock them off, too. In Georgia high school football you can’t win on talent alone.

Roswell looks very good so far. Power football with playmakers at the skill positions on offense and defense. They should win next week at Campbell and up through when they face Lassiter and Walton the last 2 games. The defense has been rebuilt into a formidable group. They will be a force come playoff time.

Pops, not sure where you got the idea from the posts that I would be attending the TLP rivalry with anyone other than the Etowah faithful and certainly not Wolverine Fan. Just commenting that the game falls during the Cherokee County Fall Break and attendance will be lower. Make no mistake, I only pull for Woodstock when it benefits Etowah (or Region 5 in general).

Hoya Chuck – Harrison is untested in the region and has to finish the season against arguably the top 4 teams in your last five games… with Etowah at the end. My bet is that it will have playoff implications. I can only hope that we are not just playing for the #4 seed (which likely means Grayson in the first round)!

Re the unbeatens (mainly in 6-AAAAA), it is true that neither Walton, Lassiter or Roswell have played tough schedules.
although Walton’s 1 pt win over Norcross was pretty impressive for a team that lost a lot of talent.

but shouldn’t at least one of them be ranked? you can only play who’s on your schedule & these 3 teams are all 4-0.
it will shake out in the end, as all 3 play each other late in the season, but it seems that either Roswell or Walton should be in there ahead of Camden Cty & P’tree Ridge.

once again, no love for 6-AAAAA from Mr. Holcomb.

Wins and losses are not based on what might have been if this team played that team on this night or that night. I’m sorry Camden had a tuff game but a loss is a loss. No one person knows who will win if any two teams play. You cannot predict turnovers, injuries, key plays that turn momentum in a prep school or even a pro game for that matter. These rankings should be for what DID happen, NOT for what might have been. IF Camden come back and finishes better than these unbeaten teams, give them their ranking then, not now just because they played a different team. The fact is they are 1-2…a loosing record.

Uncle Rico, Lassiter is lighting it up as well. Unfortunatley I don’t think Todd can rank all of them #10. He must be waiting for one of them to seperate. I have a feeling Roswell is the best of the group, with Lassiter and Walton surely able to win on a given Friday. Should be interesting.

BD – Lowndes QB, a junior and starting center fielder on Lowndes’ Baseball team, was 7 for 10 against Colquitt County last Friday with at least one dropped pass, and two TD passes. He is also a good runner (fast). Lowndes’ offense is the most versatile it’s been for a long time. Their defense is awesome!

To the guy who said Lowndes is overrated. Ask Peachtree Ridge’s coach about that and see what he tells you.

To all the Camden critics: a twice beaten Camden team is still better than most Metro Atlanta teams.

Region Six seems like the red headed step child. No love and no respect. 3 unbeatens and non in the top 10. Will wash out at seasons end, but the but based on this the polls the pollsters are just for a few who have thier predetermined favorites.

Pops – I guess we’ll just have to wait a few weeks then.
1 of those 3 teams will likely stumble over the next 3-4 games, & my guess is that the same will happen to some of the teams ahead of them in the rankings.

regardless, it will be fun to see who comes out of 6-AAAAA & makes it to the playoffs.

my picks are Roswell & Walton mainly b/c of their home schedules vs the other top teams.

Any team with 2 losses should be out of the top 10. I don’t care if they loose to the Dallas Cowboys. They are 1 -2 and don’t deserve to be there with so many other good teams 4-0.

Bottom line is they have lost more games than they won, good football teams figure out how to win regradless of the competition.

Being a 1AAAAA fan I’m not so sure but that by year end Camden
wouldn’t be playing for 2nd or 3rd in region if in 1AAAAA. No one wants to play Camden come playoff time…you can be sure. I’m pretty confidant Grayson doesn’t desire to see them again this year either.
Not saying Grayson isn’t better “right now”, but being young, Camden stands to do the most improvement by year end and they ain’t half bad right now.

Must really suck losing the two of the first three games of the season. With a small region, Camden will make the playoffs, only 8 teams in the region, 1/2 of them make the playoffs. Try playing in a 10 team region.
