Michael Carvell’s Prep Zone Video Blog: The biggest and baddest football team in metro Atlanta is…?

Lowndes is the No. 1-ranked team in the state’s largest division (Class AAAAA). But which big metro school is the best?

Grayson is No. 2, and appears in many national polls, along with Lowndes. Grayson got a scare from South Gwinnett in a 27-16 win on Friday. North Gwinnett is probably the next best thing, and not yet is much known about Stephenson or M.L. King.

You could also throw McEachern, Peachtree Ridge, Newnan, Collins Hill and Parkview in the mix. It’s early in the season, and a lot of things are likely to  happen before playoff passes are handed out.

Who is your pick for the metro’s best Class AAAAA team? State your team and your case below.

BulldawgBite,

This year, it doesn’t matter where Lowndes County play. The outcome will remain the same. No one will beat Lowndes County this year in the Post Season.

everybody heard that last year too… til yall lost to grayson.
Im positive lowndes will win state if they play every game at home, concrete palace is way too tough environment. but on the road i think they are way more susceptible to a loss

Bulldawgbite,

I’m sorry to have to tell you but I NEVER said it. I ALWAYS stated last year that 2008 Region 3-AAAAA Perinnial Power Camden County (South Georgia) will be the undisputed Class AAAAA State Champions. I also said that no one in the State would beat Camden County no matter who it was. If you don’t believe me, ask some of the bloggers that was on here last year such
EagleNationRising, Reeze, Yo, AVIKINFAN, ACAMDENFAN, Camdenwildcat, and even Sports Writer and Editor Todd Holcomb. I was right. they became the undisputed Class AAAAA State Champions.

Now I am saying this year, that Lowndes County will be. The reason being is that….
1. That Lowndes County Team is a Mammonth size team.
2. That Lowndes County Team is Fast on both sides of the ball.
3. That Lowndes County team (Defense) is very physical and they bit hard.
4. That Lowndes County team is playing with a lot of emotion.
5. That Lowndes County team had to carry that embarrassing upset / loss on their shoulders for one year handed to them by Grayson. Remember?
6. That Lowndes County Team taking that lost was tough pill for them to swallow.

You can rest, and assure that the Lowndes County Team of this year, is better than the Lowndes County team of last year. They walking softly and carrying a big stick. They are destroying ever team they have faced this year, including your North Georgia Teams. Remember Woodland of Stockbridge this year? Ask some of these other North Georgia fan. Maybe they can share their thoughts of that brutal punishing game they got from Lowndes County. How about the fans of Peachtree Ridge, and I like Peachtree Ridge. Bottom line is that no team in the State will beat this ferocious Lowndes County Monster of a team this year. Mark my words….

When I compare North Georgia football to South Georgia football I look at 2 key machups. I see Colquitt County driving 3 and a half hours up to Lassiter and beating them handedly in their scimmage match (most of you have over-looked this obviously). And I look at Lowndes laying the pine to PRHS. Both of these games make the statement that, yes the leagues ya’ll have in North Georgia are nice, but every once and a while some team from 1-AAAAA has to come and remind you where the real football is played.

Sportsfan,

I have no doubt Lowndes is a good team. the things i have heard from several ptree ridge fans is that the passing game isnt particularly strong and that they rely on the big play. Their defense is always staunch and hard to do anything against. If they win the state title this year i will give you credit but playoffs is a long way away. region 7 and region 1 #1 seeds play in the 3rd round this year… I think the two toughest regions will play a good game that night (with region one as the deeper region) and will be a rematch of the 07 final or the ptr game earlier this season. btw NG still has ptr at the end of the season. and I hear Lowndes goes to Northside this week. do you think the Northside game will be close?
