Should be a “Barn Burner” the EAST crowd is FIRED up for this game and it could only be better if we were playing at home in “THE BONEYARD”. Powder Town is VERY close to EAST “as the crow flies” I still think we can fire the CANNON at home and hear it at McEachern…Hmmmmmmmmmmm!!!!!
Here’s hoping for good weather (prediction is for 60% chance of rain) and for good referee calls on both sides of the ball…Let the players play and determine the games outcome.

4 very good games to report on this week. Interesting story lines. Will South step up and be a player in Region 8-AAAAA? Will Lovett suffer a letdown after beating almighty Buford last week? Will Grady improve to 4-0? Who will get a leg up on the Region 5-AAAAA playoff race? Among other games in the state, will Houston County get a region win tomorrow night? How bad will Lowndes get it done in the “Pigpen”?
Will Valdosta step up? Will Norcross continue the turnaround? Will the Demons hold serve at home?
I think Lovett could be prime for an upset Friday night.

“The truth hurts” so it is said, but I have to be honest. I pride myself on being a good evaluator of my alma maters talent from year to year. Yes I played for the mighty Bears back in the day, but i’m old enough now to separate reality from optimistic dreams. I’m sure most of you read my comment earlier about the speed and talent level of Griffin High this year, and that It saddens me to have to pick them to lose to a big and fast Mt. Zion team this Friday in the Bears own Back yard. We will have to bring an all out assault from the newly daunted “Air-Bear” arsenal, compiled with a rousing vocal shell shocking from the great Griffin high Fans who always turn up and are ready to rock! Coach Devo will have the whole teams necks bowed out and primed for some Bulldog bashing. I expect a real gnashing and grinding affair this time…Mt zion should prevail however if my prognostication and scouting is right…I sure would like to be wrong this time….I do Love those Might Bears and want to give kudos to a staunch group of players in clayco at Mt. Zion . I think they are underarated and the Bears are actually overrated. PROVE ME WRONG GUYS!! it sure wont be the first time…. May the best team win, Go BEARS!

Yeah I know everyone ignores Mays, but in order to be hyped up, you have to have beaten a well-ranked team, or have a great past history. Mays might have demolished everyone they’ve played, but their ranking isn’t going to change unless they beat a traditional powerhouse.

Mays—I witnessed your game last week over WHITEWATER… and I must say that your team does NOT belong in the top ten, or for that matter the top one-hundred & ten! They are so very undisciplined and not fundamentally sound what-so ever! They really need A coach who can do A better job with this bunch! They are lacking at all the skills positions and they are not fun to watch. They look like A B-team or something! SORRY…A lie dont care who tells it!

Mays does not deserve to be ranked. Schools are generally ranked because of their program more so than 1 or 2 good years. Until Mays gets a head coach, like they had in Solomon, who knows how to develop a program, Mays will never get any respect. Come to a Mays practice and you will not see any coaching or teaching going on with the JV. This is supposed to be the future of the program, but the coaches don’t even care about playing JV games. They have already had 2 of their 3 games cancelled this year. I think the coach just wants to win a few games and position himself to get a job at another school. MAYS DON’T DESERVE RESPECT FROM AJC UNTIL THEY MAKE A REAL COMMITMENT TO THEIR PROGRAM!!

Colquitt County Packers will upset #1 Ranked Lowndes; Colquitt County is a very talented and very scary team to very successful programs because of their history to play spoiler. Colquitt County you cannot fall apart early; if they do what they were program to do Colquitt should come out on top; if not then you should see Lowndes continue on their High Points Mission.

It has nothing to do with championships or playoff appearances the year before. I do agree that it has a lot do with who you’re playing currently. Once they start to win against some ranked or good teams, they’ll get some props. (Although I thought Whitewater was a good win for them)Thats how you gain recognition not by what someone’s done before you, it’s time we stop ranking on tradition and base it on what it’s really about how a team is playing currently. It’s a lot of teams ranked that haven’t won a championship. That’s the reason college football rankings are jacked up, too many traditional favorites.

Decatur 4 Life…I am glad that we all agree now. Since Stephenson has not played one ranked team or one team above AAA, Stephenson should stop whining about where they are ranked. You said it. Rankings should be based upon “how a team is playing” today. Right?
Therefore, a DeKalb homer like you would have to agree that Stephenson has accomplished nothing to even be ranked in the top 10. Beating two bad AAA programs does not merit being ranked when Stephenson could have played a strong out of region schedule. Instead, they are playing the same type of schedule which got them beat by a 4th place Region 1-AAAAA team in the 1st Round last year.
This is one of the worst Ware County (a AAAA program from South Georgia) teams in this past decade. I am telling you guys. Stephenson is on “upset alert” at 1-2 Ware County. If any of you DeKalb County guys want to witness first hand how a community gets behind a team travel with Stephenson to Waycross, GA tonight. You could also travel to any Region 1-AAAAA game, especially the Northside-Warner Robins at Valdosta game.

Greetings TrojanDude,
You know, I watched the excerpts of the Houston County / Bradwell Institute game because I was at the Hoover / Camden County game. LOL…. Houston County has a strong full back that knows how to run with the ball. That is what gave Bradwell Institute the problem in addition to Bradwell Institute having a very young, and inexperienced front line. They (Houston County) had Bradwell Institute 19-0 in the first half. Bradwell didn’t begin to get into their groove until the fourth quarter, and by then it was too late. Houston County looked just as sluggish as Bradwell Institute did, and with them playing in Region 1-AAAAA, I don’t see them ( Houston County) beating Lowndes County, Colquitt County, and Northside Warner Robbins. As far as Coffee County goes, well it’ s a toss up. I haven’t seen Coffee County this year, but I heard that they are also on a rebuilding year. I’m going to go out on a limb and say that Houston County will beat Coffee County giving that Houston County has the Home Field Advantage with their fan base to cheer them on.

fact is, mceachern has too much speed on offense for EP to contain while overpowering them with Bennet at the same time. offensively EP may put up 21 points with their balanced pro-style offense but in the end 21 points will not beat mceachern’s high powered offense. McEachern’s WR core and DB core are the keys to their success tonight. WAR EAGLE

You were right about that big old FB at HoCo. He was a load. I won’t critique your logic too much. Don’t know if you know or not but Coffee played last night and came out on top 16 – 2. The field was a mess. Standing water everywhere. Coffee rotated three QB’s the first three games but stuck with the big senior last night. He’s pretty much a load too. Made a big difference staying with one leader. The Trojan defensive line was outstanding. Hit hard and locked down. Still a long way to go but just maybe the Trojans will pull down a seed this year too. May be wishful thinking with all the young players. But,,, just maybe. Looking forward to following the action tonight. Good luck and safe fields to you and yours.

Guys remember the “Upset Alert” that ENR gave this board throughout the week. Ware County (1-2) 7, Stephenson (2-0) 6. Life is a little different metro Atlanta when you travel south and get hit in the mouth. I knew that the Gators from Ware County were going to give Stephenson all that they could handle in the Jungle in downtown Waycross. It is much bigger and louder than any other stadium that Stephenson will play in. It is no surprise to me that Stephenson is struggling against real competition.

What is really going on? ENR told you guys. Stephenson and my Northside-Warner Robins Eagles are on “Upset Alert.”
End of the 3rd quarter:
Valdosta 13, Northside-Warner Robins 9.
The game was about to be over. Northside scored on a punt return, which was called back for holding at the 11. Northside got the ball at the 21 and moved to the 5. It was 3rd and goal from the Valdosta 3 and Northside passed the ball. Valdosta intercepted a deflected pass for 100 yards and who took it to the house. Wildcats take their first lead. Murphy, no one in this state can refute that talent rests in programs like Stephenson and SW DeKalb. I am just one who thinks that Stephenson should play more difficult competition. It is a shame that Stephenson or SW DeKalb does not play a power outside of DeKalb County. That is just my opinion. Stephenson has equal or better talent than programs like Lowndes County, Northside-Warner Robins, and Camden County every year.

Lowndes had an opportunity to score another touchdown as time was winding down, but Coach McPhearson, being the class act that he is, had his quarterback to take a knee. One thing Colquitt can be proud of is that the starters had to play most of the game, unlike when we play other regions and our starters come out of the game chillin’ after the 1st half. Vikingsrule, I was the person who put Northside on “Upset Alert” because he had never beaten Valdosta on the road. Valdosta missed 3 field goals and had one field goal blocked. Northside also had a long punt return called back and another punt return for a touchdown called back. Northside also had the ball on the 3 and bobbled a TD away that Valdosta took back for 100 yards.
Personally, I do not want to hear all of Valdosta pointing at the kicker. It was the mammonth line that couldn’t hold Northside for the block punt. I do not need a the Northside is lucky speech from Lowndes people. Northside won. It was a hard fought game. Nonetheless, when the dusts settled the Eagles were on top.

Northside has now beaten one of the top 10 teams in the state (yes, Carver-Columbus is one of the ten best teams in any classification in Georgia). Northside has now beaten Valdosta. While there are some Lowndes posters screaming luck for a program with as many wins as any team in the state this decade, let’s get our arms around this reality (people like Vikingsrule).
Northside-Warner Robins has not lost a football game at McConnell-Talbert Stadium to a visiting team since 1997. That is not a misprint Vikingsrule. That is real talk!
By the way, you guys do know that most of the Eagles on the field are juniors and sophomores. It is great to be a Northside Eagle!

On the Stephenson scheduling: As you may know the athletic teams in DeKalb County share revenue and stadiums. There was a time, and I am not sure if it has changed, that the coaches didn’t have an input in their non-region schedules. The county AD likes for them to play other county schools because it generates more revenue and cuts down on travel cost.
The Ware County-Stephenson game came about because last season a team cancels on them just before the season. I don’t remember which team; I think it was a pretty good out-of-town team. Left with the prospect of having only nine games and two straight bye weeks, Stephenson went searching for a game. Ware was one of a few teams with an open date similar to Stephenson. The Gators were coming off an appearance in the state championship game and returned a lot of players. Coach Ron Gartrell thought it was a good idea to play a solid program on the road early. As you know, GHSA football contracts are done on a two-year basis.

Grayson won 27 to 16. Both teams had scores taken away by bonehead officiating. Also Grayson could have punched it in again, they were on the 7 about to score again when clock ran out. Outh did not call time outs and Grayson just let time run out.
I looked on Grayson web site and number 35 is a Sophmore JV player. He looks like their future to me.
South Gwinnet’s offense is a good one. I was impressed. Their defense needs more discipline.
So where does everyone see Warner Robins Demons now in Region 1 AAAAA. I knew that defense was stout. They are top 10 defense in state if not better.
Stephenson is looking to prove they are contenders!

Attended Grayson-South Gwinnett game. Grayson jumped on South early, scoring on their opening drive & scoring again when South fumbled the ensuing kickoff. South then scored 16 unanswered points until Grayson scored 13 unanswered points of their own. Penalities hurt both teams & South had 2 turnovers which led to 7 Grayson points. Impressed with South. They are a playoff team in Region 8-AAAAA. Grayson was able to make several key 3rd down conversions. South had 2 TD’s called back because of penalty. Grayson is deserving of their ranking & need to be ready to go next week against Parkview on the road.

Grayson- South Gwinnett Game
The South G TD that got called back was for an illegal block to the back I think. Happened in front of Grayson side. That South QB was very impressive. Great footwork and very accurate on all passes.
South D killed themselves in this game. 2 off sides late and an Unsportsmanlike all on the same Grayson drive to help seal the deal for Rams. Grayson ran the ball about 85% of the their plays. Rarely mixed it up. South stacked the box every play. It was a very good game to watch. Both teams are talented.

EagleNationRising your wrong, the Demons beat the Eagles in 04 at McConnell-Talbert, and a couple of times between 97-04. The Eagles have been dominant but not undefeated at home since 97. TJ: Agree with you about Warner Robins. However, the Demons concern me being so one dimensional.
Tift could be maybe the worst team in the region this year. Did some research on Stephenson versus Gwinnett & Region1-AAAAA schools. The Jaguars are 5-3 versus Gwinnett schools (0-1 vs Brookwood, 0-1 vs Collins Hill, 2-0 vs South Gwinnett, 2-0 vs North Gwinnett, 1-0 vs Parkview & 0-1 vs Peachtree Ridge)
They are 2-4 vs Region 1-AAAAA (1-1 vs Coffee, 0-2 vs Lowndes, 1-0 vs Tift & 0-1 vs Valdosta)

South O played a great game. The D was very undisciplined. Bonehead Official Call-Late in the game. 4 point game I think. The Ref throws a flag because the Press camera guys on the other end of the field were a foot or 2 inside the 20. Flag was eventually withdrawn. Very Bizarre. Officiating crew had an off night. Doesn’t matter if South has 11 players that play the whole game. It’s a team game. I wouldn’t say Grayson was not that good, but will say South is that good.

Still we were going in to take the lead with under 5 minutes to go and fumbled the ball on the Indian 3. Probably more accurate to say a great hit by your D created a fumble. Hagar, it is a matter of fact that Northside (Warner Robins) has not lost a football game to a visiting team during the regular season since Northside lost to Robert E. Lee of Alabama on September 20, 1996. Warner Robins HS is not a visiting team at McConnell-Talbert Stadium!!! For goodness sake, the stadium sits across the street from the main entrance of the Warner Robins HS campus.
If you find a regular season game that Northside has lost to a visiting team at McConnell-Talbert Stadium since Robert E. Lee of Alabama beat us 16-7 on September 20, 1996, you tell us Hagar. Your jealous demeanor smells very Warner Robins HS. If I were you, I would stop dancing about beating Tift County, who was also hammered by AA Brooks County. Hagar, if you are indeed a Big Red poster try to get focused upon a very good and athletic Valdosta team. and nothing would bring a bigger smile upon my face than Northside and Warner Robins finishing 1-2 in Region 1-AAAAA. Unlike so many people in the Wartown who cheer against their cross-town rivals. I love the Big Red every week of the season except the Friday night that they play Northside.
I was there for Warner Robins’ State Championship in 1988 and I have to admit that a part of me was sad when Northside upset Warner Robins when it seemed as though Warner Robins was going to win a third National Championship in 1989. Of course, 98% of me was celebrating our improbable 7-6 win.
Northside has NOT lost to any visitor during the regular season since 1996. That is not a misprint. There is too much Warner Robins history at that stadium for anyone to proclaim that Warner Robins is a visiting team to McConnell-Talbert Stadium. OK!…First Congrats to McEachern for a HARD fought win tonight…
Hoya Chuck, get a grip Harrison had it’s hands full with SOUTH COBB!!!
Jaybo and others who were not at the game…this was the game we all expected it to be and the score does not tell the story as it was McEachern 24 / EAST 21 with just over 4 minutes to go. East was on the McEachern 3 YARD LINE and about to go up 28 to 24 when we fumbled. On a 3rd down play McEachern scores on a long pass play to go up 31 / 21!! Time ran out with EAST inside the McEachern 3 yard line!!!!
This game could have been won by either team and two quality football teams played their hearts out tonight. McEachern scored 21 of their points off EAST turnovers so sorry JAYBO but nobody got anything “spanked” and EAST still has games with Woodstock and Etowah that will go a long way towards determining the 5A-AAAAA.

Jaybo: Cannon Rules is the prototypical metro Atlanta high school fan. The truth is it is unjustifiable for any big time program to lose to McEachern, one of the premiere basketball schools in the state. Of course, we are going to get long stories and “excuse threads” about what happened.
The bottom line is East Paulding is NOT a premiere program…EP has NEVER been a premiere program. The people of Hiram only believe EP is really good because the AJC gives them so much ink. I do not know if it is because Bill Richardson is the House Speaker of the General Assembly or what. However, EP along with Grayson and Stephenson get more ink than any programs in the nation that have NEVER won state championship. Now this. A loss to “basketball school” McEachern.
EP posters please do not sink to making excuses. 31-21 is not close. The score doesn’t represent the game is a pathetic excuse. The score does represent what happened in the game. McEachern scored 31 and the mighty EP program scored 21. That is exactly what happened. Eat your crow before you make another excuse about fumbling at the 3.
Down 24-21 with 4 minutes left is plenty of time to make a defensive stand, get the ball back, and at least come down and tie it up and force overtime. No excuses, EP!!! If EP was half the program East posters proclaim it to be, the silver and black would have made a stand and come back to win it. That did not happen. So eat crow and enjoy it.

Uh OH!!! looks like my son didn’t play tonight. Mays lost to who again! LOL See, this is what’s wrong with Mays and probably a few other APS schools. A person offers constructive criticism and right away someone who doesn’t want an improved program says “oh you just mad cause your son don’t play”. Actually, I have a daughter at Mays, but I’m a football fan, so I enjoy watching young men develop and sometimes watch practice while I am walking the track.
So, since you falsely accused me of being mad that my son wasn’t playing, I’ll just let the cat out of the bag about the rest of the shortcomings I’ve observed this summer and fall watching Mays practice.
Guess what AJC, Mays has players cursing the coaches out, throwing their helmets down if the coach says something to them they don’t like, and even getting in the coaches face and challenging them.
All of this behavior goes unchecked by the coach and is observed by the younger players. So guess what the younger players are going to do when they become seniors if this same coaching staff is kept in place. Yep you guessed it!
GO RAIDERS! LOL.

Just a question.
Was week 4 the end of the “smack talk” from: Valdosta, South Gwinnett, and Mays?
While it is fun to speculate about who is going to finish first, that seems to ignore all the fun watching Friday niight games during the journey. There are a lot of good football teams out there. It is hard to win a single football game, let alone run the table. If your team wins ANY football games, they deserve your attention and support. Winning a state title can come down to one or two players, or even something as simple as one bad special teams play. The flukes and coin tosses should not detract from anyone’s enjoyment of good games fought by hard working opponents.
Way to go Georgia High School Football! It is always fun to watch. The surprises just add to the enjoyment.
And now I can stop holding my breath, since North Gwinnett scored enough points against a typically outstanding Norcross defensive secondary. Excellent coaching. Excellent players. They have the best idea about how to stop the “Air Raid’ offense among all HS teams in Georgia. It isn’t “man for man” and it isn’t “Cover 2″. And fortunately, it will not be on the other side of the line of scrimmage again this season.
Good job holding it together, Lovett.

Take the time to actually READ what I posted…The FIRST post I made I congratulated the Indians on their win! I next said it was a hard fought game that either team could have won and THAT IS ABSOULTELY what it was. Regardless of what you want to say this game was NOT DECIDED until EAST fumbled with just over 4 minutes to go. Had EAST scored then the score would have been 28/24 and McEachern would have been chasing the clock to come back.
As it stand McEachern is now 4-0 in the Region but to hear Hoya Chuck tell it we all may as well fold our tents since we still havn’t played them yet. McEachern SHOULD now run the table and win the Region with EAST, WOODSTOCK, & ETOWAH battling for the 2nd spot BUT we still got a lot of football left!

Sorry Blake, this year North played the #1 team in Alabama; and yes Prattville has scraped their way back to a #1 ranking. Last year, we played the #1 team in South Carolina, Byrnes.
Stephenson looks to be for real, but if they play North it will have to be in the playoffs. The non- conference games are over.
SouthGARules: Stephenson is probably just as awesome now as they were 7 years ago, but this is NOT the same North team that lost to Stephenson 7 years ago. I hardly think you can refer to games that far back as a relative measure of current strength. All these teams wil get their chance on the field. It should be fun to watch.

look MHS has started off well, i mean beating the top three teams in region 5. with that said they still have six games left yes they should win them all but we dont wont a slip up. but for all you ep fans a W is a W no matter how you get it. may have been a good game but lets think about this. MHS rolled up almost 600 yards and yall only got 300 at the most. purnell had 4 completions for about 215 with two touchdowns and MR. BENNETT had 182 yards more than half of ep total yards. fumbles happen, its just how you respond to them is what makes the difference. good game but i think ep fans still need to remember who there daddy is before they start talking about last year win. i think paulding county the whole county might have six wins against MHS. That dates back to 1966 so do the math.

Pretty good game tonight between EP and MAC. A bit sloppy on both sides of the ball in terms of penalties(rightly or wrongly called). Also sloppy play with turn overs and special teams. For a 4th and 3rd game respectively I think both teams played extremely tight and not up to their potential.
All in all, the better team won tonight and a tip of my cap to the McEachern Indians fot the win.
Unfortunatley what I saw makes me concerned about the region when playoffs come around because if those were the best and 2nd, 3rd or 4th best teams in the region then I think the playoffs could end as quickly as they start for all in the region. EP’s pass defense was NON Existent for the entire game, and MAC’s defense was pretty much a sieve. The biggest difference I saw was that MAC out coached/thought EP’s coaches in terms of approach to the game. MAC came out throwing, and though not overly accurate initially, it accomplished the intention and that was to make sure that as the game wore on that the running gacme could be counted on for big first downs when it counted. The RB is infact extremely good and as fast as advertised.
No excuses here at all. As mentioned before the best team won, and congrats. I really really hope that MAC can shore up their defense, and if they can they would be pretty awesome. My fear is that a team like Grayson would just keep the ball for 75 pct of that game by gaining 3 yards every snap, and the MAC offense would never get untracked.
Side note: Speed: yes MAC is faster then EP, Size wise,,,it was pretty darn even with a slight nod to EP.
Last thing: EP Fans(only you 1pct)……..if you are one of the fans yelling and screaming at the EP QB to “do somthing”, or “throw the ball”, or “get rid of if you ball hog”,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,you all need to get a gripe and stop manifesting your racial bias with your ignorant remarks. Grow up !!!
Oops sorry,,,,,,,I just can’t stand it when fans from any side can’t win or lose with class.

UPSET OF THE WEEK–Savannah Country Day Hornets 29, #2-ranked Wilkinson County 22 at Wilco. The Hornets out-gained the Warriors 445 yards to 323, stopped the defending state semifinalists in the red zone three times on downs in the second half alone, and had 8 sacks of the Wilco QB. Wilco loses just one week after beating then-#2-ranked Wilcox County despite five turnovers.

On the comment that Warner Robins is not a visiting team, so ENR, you mean to tell me that EVERYTIME Northside and WR play, that WR is always the HOME team? I find that odd because, in LaGrange, Troup, LaGrange, and Callaway have all been the visiting team when they play each other. I find that hard to believe that WR has never been on the visitors side, even if it is “their stadium”. Just an observation thats all

I’m a neutral observer (being a coach at another high school) BUT south Gwinnett had the game TAKEN from them again and again by the REFs!
SOOOOOO many bad calls
And not just penalties…Grayson was given a 3rd and long pass completion when the ball obviously bounced 4 feet in front of the receiver.
Also before a Grayson score (down on the about the 5) the Rams’ QB fumbled the SNAP, SG recovered and the REFs waved it off as an incomplete pass
One other thing, on a late 3 and 1 for Grayson the REFs flagged them for five yards, marked it off, Grayson then lined up to run a play, their Coach called a timeout and talked to the REFs on the Grayson sidelines, and after the Timeout, the REFS came out and waved off the flag and moved the ball back up 5 yards.
I could not believe my eyes. As a coach I have NEVER seen that. What makes it worse is that when South’s Coach complained, they hit him for a 15 yard unsportsmanlike penalty
It was really disappointing to see a good game taken from kids that deserved to have a fair game

All of the thing that you saw have come back to bite us in the ass…Alexander is the SORRIEST team in the region and we should have beat them the way that we beat Therrell. SPECIAL TEAMS and Coach McGHEE need to be at practice RIGHT NOW because they embarassed all of the dang little league coaches of Ben Hill, Cascade, Adamsville and Welcome All…if you can’t catch the punt/kick-off and run the *ish back – DON’T TOUCH IT!!!!!! We gave up 3 field goals on basic fundamentals alone!!!!!! That shows a lack of discipline, lack of coaching and just over all stupidity! Would not be surprised if Calloway had to spend a few days at home without pay behind this BS!!!!! Every South scoring drive was full of missed holding calls, defensive linemen literally getting tackled! The first drive of 3rd quarter, long pass play, the right tackle was 15 yards down field 3 yards away when the receiver catches the ball (now I’m not a high school coach like you but in my rule book that constitutes illegial man down field)- not to mention defensive end getting tackled on same play, big run backs on punts had clips that were not called- all directly in front of the officals. The waived off flag was a bad call initially. The call was a sideline infraction against the news crew- not Grayson affilates. The call should have never been made which was why it was corrected. Common on coach, are you sure you weren’t just seeing what you wanted to see?
South is a great football team- probably the best offense Grayson has seen this season. They played a great game but Grayson won. I find it interesting that this forum is quick to say in the same breath that South is great team but Grayson is not that good. We did win by two scores didn’t we?

#25 for Stephenson has to be the most underrated RB in Georgia. This guy put on the Barry Sanders show with 4 TDs and about 150 yrds. I have to say this kid is a special player. The defense is solid too as usual. The score could have easily been 34-6.

Realepfan, finally someone who wants to talk intelligent football instead of outdated artillery. Ep has some really big kids (tall) kids on that D, a couple on the O, but the player that still sticks out to me the most is that #40(the smallest one on the field), what a great looking display he put on last night, and goes to show that the size of the heart in a player can make a difference.
I was however very concerned about the officiating in that game (on both sides of the LOS) Now for the one who says how can you see sitting up in the stands. There is holding on every play and last night, once an official keys in on a certain area of the playing field, the laundry will start flying. Several calls i question (as do most fans) but the pass interferance calls in most GHSA games is nonexistant. Some of us have been around awhile and are not ignorant to the game of football.
Anyway the 2 teams to watch in our region for this point forward are Woodstock and EP, regardless of where MHS is playing that weekend i will go see those 2 teams play each other, it should be a good one. I am not saying Etowah isnt good, but i think EP and Woodstock are better teams right now.

Grayson if everyone on this blog keeps saying the same thing about your team then it must be true. Nobody is praising you guys but yourselves because your team still hasn’t proven anything. So what you upset Lowndes last year? You guys still couldn’t get it done. You lost the very next week. If it wasn’t for us nobody wouldn’t even know who you are. So really you guys should be showing us some love for putting Grayson on the map. The whole Grayson beat Lowndes saga is so old. Lowndes has won titles in 80′ 99′ 04′ 05′ and 07′. So my point is that don’t be trying to just disrespect us like we don’t have a legit program. Yes Grayson beat us last year and I have no problem with that. If you beat us, you just beat us. But what I do have a problem with is all the Grayson people talking like they are the team to beat in the whole state and that everyone else is chasing them. Last time I checked Lowndes is ranked higher than Grayson in every poll in the state and nationally. Grayson isn’t getting much love on this blog because when the other programs like Northside, Warner Robins, Lowndes, Camden, and Valdosta whom all by the way have several state titles read about you guys at Grayson braggin about how good you are and how you beat Lowndes so now that must automatically make Grayson a contender for the title, well we all take that as a diss in AAAAA. Got to show us something is all I’m saying. I think most would agree.

We must have been sitting close to each other last night…I saw / heard the same EP fans screaming at the QB. I think a lot of it was in the frustration that he was NOT passing when he had open recievers (many times down the right side) and was holding the ball then trying to “make something happen” by running it himself. Several other times when he did pass it was late as he was scrambling away from defenders and didn’t have time to set up. We have been a bit spoiled with the past few years at EP having a couple of guys who COULD pass and recievers who could make a bad pass look good. So far this year I am not seeing the same type passing game from either of our QB’s. Just a thought! One other comment EP last night had NO PASS defense…NONE… and if we don’t fix that FAST, the Etowah’s, and Woodstock’s still left to play us will have a field day!
By the way for the one’s who keep calling last night “A BLOW-OUT” I call to your attention the headline in the AJC. below…
“McEachern hangs on, tops East Paulding
Indians improve to 4-0; Raiders drop to 2-1
By CHIP SAYE / For the AJC”

I think everyone is saying the same thing about Grayson and South Gwinnett game. The officiating sucked but when it is all done Grayson would have still won. Coach, it is Friday night, how are you watching the game? Recreation coach or Brookwood coach? Does not matter mark up another win for Grayson. Lowndes girl, does not matter about history, P. Ridge was double overtime game, Grayson has not been around that long so their history is now. Four years ago when Grayson started making the playoffs everyone was saying “Grayson who?” on these blogs, I remember. Now everyone knows them in Georgia, that is earning respect. Lowndes in my book and everyone elses is the #1 team and will be until somebody beats them, same can be said about the #2 team, Grayson. Playoffs will sort this out, that is what they are for.

1-AAAAA Rules the only problem with a Grayson/Lowndes rematch is that the most likely scenario of it happening is in the dome for the championship. Even if they are the 2 best teams in the state it is going to be a tough road for “both” of them to make it.
Here is my prediction for 1AAAAA standings now that I have seen a little
of all teams. In this order of finish. Lowndes, Northside, Valdosta, Colquit. Warner will make a run but I see Colquit coming out ahead.

Man-o ‘ LIVE…those mighty Griffin Bears broke out the BEAST CLAW Whooping Club against a gritty-tough Mt. Zion Jonesboro Team. I was WAAAAY off in my prediction of the Bears losing by 4. (I’ll keep my day job I ’spoze!). An absolute BONE-CRUSHING stop on a critical fourth down for Mt. Zion just deflated all Bulldogs this side of Athens, and the crunching thud generated from the shock-waves probably flattened South Clayton County as well. Trust me, that one hit was YOU-TUBE good. (hrrrm…maybe…naaa) Great game on TV (watched the replay at home) and the Bears Den was ROCKIN and the fans were into it. I’d venture as far as to say Mt. Zion will still make the playoffs, they are that good of a team, but this week they were no match for the Bears Arsenal. GHS was really out for revenge and got it! Trojan57………….Come on now , we all agree that Hoco’s running game and defense is better this year, but we are talking about Hoco ,it will probably be a good fight between Tift and Hoco when they play for the bottom spot in the region…….Coffee’s defensive battle with Hoco by no means solidify’s Coffee for playoff spot in the region…..gotta say this is a first ,times must be really hard in Douglas……..But I agree with you on one thing …The Cats and the Demons.are back…..This is the Valdosta team that Northside hated and dreaded to play years ago,…..Hadn’t see a team like this from Valdosta in years ……The Qb is fast and can throw pretty well ,lots of speed on both sides ,Rome and the recievers are good…..The Cats played hard ,they played to win , unlike the last couple seasons……This was the most excitng game for Northside since the Tucker game a couple years back…….Mad respect for The Cats…….Warner robins as well…..The Grayson folks may be right on….Warner robins defense is good….Malcolm Dixon the Qb is just as fast and has a arm just as good as the Valdosta kid ,plus they’ve got 2 or 3 backs that can kill a team……Lowndes will win the region ,but it won’t be a cake walk …..ill agree with you Northside is not a gimme for the 2 spot…..2,3,and 4 will go to Northside ,Valdosta and Warner Robins ,no particular order……..sorry man buy Coffee ,Tift and Hoco will be on the ugly ship looking out in November

ENR: Wheeler is the basketball school in Cobb, not McEachern.
SuwaneeOwnz: You are correct about the North/Stephenson matchups. I had assumed they were playoff matchups, but did see they were regular season games under Tim Hammontree. I know that the late Dennis Roland started the turnaround at North and Bob Sphire has taken the program to another level, but what happened to Coach Moore, who was there for 1 year before Bob Sphire took over. I guess the matchups with Stephenson should be taken about like the matchups with Buford. That was then, this is now.
Grayson basically has one hurdle to get over before they win the region & that is next week in the BIg Orange Jungle. That game will be on CSS for those who are unable to attend. Parkview has a good defense, having held a good Collins Hill team to 10 points, but Grayson’s offense is more balanced. I believe a closer game than expected, but Grayson wins to stay unbeaten.

Thanks for the history lesson. We are excited to try to put our name among the greats in high school football. The school has only been around for 9 years. We’re just trying to make a name for ourselves. You also make a good point about the other powerhouse programs like Camden & Warner Robins. By the way, we beat them too so Lowndes doesn’t need to feel like we’re hanging our hat on them alone. We’re not claiming to be a historical powerhouse. Just hoping to win our next game–

Reeze, you are right. Long as they win I guess they are happy. I started to watch and support Grayson 4 or 5 years ago because they are in my backyard and Brookwood was same old same old. One thing I have noticed, they do not run up scores for one reason or another. I do not think it is their style to do so. But what is their style is defense and running. Their time of possesion was 33 minutes to South’s 15 minutes. Total offense was 324 yards to South’s 218 yards. Grayson’s defense was exposed a little last night against spread. Their offense stepped up to the plate and surpassed South Gwinnett.

Im Not saying that Grayson needs to run the score up to prove anything …But when you’re ranked nationally and the # 2 team in the state . You are expected to have better wins against ,say Warner Robins who isnt ranked at all., and you win by a 10 point difference. We know now that the Demons defense is pretty good and still your kids put up good numbers ,, but the average joe won’t look at the stats ,they’ll only look at the score , even though the demons didn’t move the ball at all ,a turnover or even a punt return or any special team TD from the demons and their right back in it…Your game against South Gwinntte a nationally ranked team isn’t expected to trail a unranked team at any point of the game…thats all

Perhaps you all missed what really was the best game in the state of GA last night. The Fayette County tigers and the Luella Lions battled it out all night on the wet field. Literally all night. The first half runs kinda slow ending in a 14-7 lead for the lions. Half way through the third quarter the Tigers find themselves down 21-7. But then came the Tiger deffensive. Holding Luella to two straight three and outs and not to mention two straight blocked punts giving the tigers great field position. And running back Kendell Palmore took advantage of it. The tigers rally and score 21 unanswered points taking a 28-21 lead with little over a minute left in the game. But Luella has a little bit left up their sleeve, scoring after driving through the air to tie things up at 28 at the end of regulation. Tigers get the ball first in Overtime. The lions quickly hold Fayette County to a three and out. So here comes the field goal attempt and it is blocked. So the lions take the field knowing all they need is three points to seal the deal and walk off with a W. And almost like an instant replay the Tigers then hold Luella to a three and out. And Luellas kicker misses the field goal as his kick is to low. So yes we have Double OT. and Luella starts with possession and Scores on a second and goal from the 1 yard line. BUT the holder for the extra point is Hit by Fayette County’s Eric Lauderdale causing the score to be 34-28 Luella. So fayette county takes the field knowing this is it all or nothing. And the lions again hold the tigers to a quick three and out. So here it is 4th and inches to get a First and goal inside the five. And QB Justin Murray sneaks it and gets the first. On the following play RB Kendall Palmour uses agility and power to get into the end zone. So its all up to Kicker Ashton Hindman to win this game….Oh and let me add that Hindman has never played a game of football in his life, this is his first ever game as a football kicker. So imagine the nerves that the game would come down to him. The ball is snapped and he kicks a beautiful PAT and the Fayette County tigers rally to win the game. Fayette fans would rush the field picking up thir kicker and putting him high above the ground on their shoulders. What a night to be a Fayette Tiger and what a night for that kicker folks.

HiramHornets… I sure hope you are right! Harrison’s defense played well last night, but the offense needs some work. I hope they rise to the occasion against Woodstock and EP. They should be great games anyway. I just don’t see Harrison not making it to the play-offs. BTW, Hiram is awesome! They are definitely a force to be taken seriously.

Marist/Tucker could be a great game. And it ought to be, but if Tucker is as sloppy and undisciplined as it was last night, Marist will romp. The Tigers are very good, but so are the War Eagles. I’ve seen them both, and from what I witnessed, Marist isn’t as big, but executes better.

Woodstock played Mceachern alot tougher than East Pauling. The main reason that the game was not a blow out was because of the excessive made up plenty calls by the refs. The officiating was terrible. Mceachern moved the ball at will with big play after big play (some were called back by the refs which kept the score close). Woodstock should not have a problem beating East Paulding because E.P is a third seed playoff team at best.

EP doesnt have any respect and neither does Hiram for strating 4-0 im just saying you havent played anyone and the region you are in is weak(besides Hillgrove). EP has to fight in every region game just to win one of them.
EP is gunna be lucky for the 2 seed in region 5AAAAA or even to make the 4 seed.

Good point 84 Viking. But there are also plenty of great games left in the regular season. It should be very fun to wath.
Didn’t really mean to hold a private conversation, SouthGA, but …
More was my neighbor. He was brought in to run Mumme’s system when Dennis Roland left to coach at SouthEastern Lousiana. Turns out, that was not what he was running, so he didn’t last. At least he made money on the fast turn of his house. Sphire is running a similar version of Mumme’s system, and he has a permanent job.
Things may get tough again when the new High School is built. But I believe Sphire will continue to run a quality competitive program, and North’s first priority is academics, anyhow. We are continuing to make major progress in academics, and the new High School will actually improve our ability to respond to the community’s educational needs. By any measure, North is becomming a very successful Georgia High School.
You cannot even began to imagine how disappointing it was to see kids I coached in the North Little League chose to attend Buford to avoid Hammontree, but nobody blamed them. It is great to see our top talent stay at North, now. It is great to see the talent at Collins Hill stay there also. Too bad Duluth has been unable to take advantage of great home grown talent and great coaching at the little League level. It would be nice to see some corrections there.
It is a new era in the northern end of Gwinnett County. I am also pleased to see some incredible improvements at Flowery Branch and Gainesville. We are a long way from the historical dominance of State Football displayed in South Georgia. But we have a lot of great football games ahead of us that will be exciting to watch. Having played football in other states, I can honestly say there is nothing like Georgia football. It is exciting. It is fun. It is amazing that UGA lets so much talent escape the state. But that is a whole different story for a different day.
Whatever

Hey St Pius guy, you are a private school with close to 1100 students in grades 9-12. Since you can choose your kids from all over the metro area, if you want respect play up a couple of classes. I say even the playing field and play in 5A instead of 3A then come on here a brag. You should be running up the score on teams that have to play with what they get and within the budget they are dealt! Nothing to brag about if you ask me.

Well it’s been time for everyone to sit back and think about how the games went friday night. The McEachern game still seems to be getting a bit of talk, and I see some Hiram / Hillgrove folks getting in here. The fun is really starting now…
First one NO ONE “Thumped” anyone or ran over anyone as some McEachern folks have stated…Anyone who was ACTUALLY at the game knows this was a HARD fought fun game to watch that went back and forth with momentum shifting from one side to the other all night. REGARDLESS what anyone wants to admit to the game was still ON THE LINE with just over 4 minutes to go and EP on the McEachern 3 yead line. If EP had scored a TD here they would have gone up 28 / 24 and McEachern would have had about 3+ minutes to respond. That would have been an exciting finish to this game…BUT EP fumbled and McEachern recovered then made two GREAT plays and scored the winning TD for the 31 / 21 finish. BOTH teams moved the ball all night but EP’s non-existent pass defense was the biggest reason they lost the game. McEachern has a QB with a VERY good arm and he made good passes all night. As I said earlier this was nothing but a good football game that either team could have won and McEachern was the better team friday night.
MARIETTA FAN…
You keep believing the post and what you “THINK” Marietta can do but this friday you will see how good EP actually plays. Friday’s game at McEachern showed how good both these teams are, Region 5A-AAAAA is going to be McEachern, EP, Woodstock & Etowah at the end the only thing to decide is how they line up…McEachern RIGHT NOW has the best shot at finishing #1 but that could change (it would take to region losses) and EP still has to play both Woodstock & Etowah as away games so we still have a lot of football left.

Pity Poor Monroe Area: I think you have it nailed, and frankly that is how it is every year — Tucker (and SWD) has better athletes than Marist, but Marist is better coached and executes better. Last year, that is why Tucker lost the first game and why Tucker beat Marist when it mattered most. We’ll see what happens this time around. I know that I would always rather have the best athetes at the high school level, but if the execution is really poor then a team cannot win.
And for those private school haters, two things: (1) Marist plays up, and in fact petitioned last time around to stay up at AAAA; and (2) Yes, private schools can take all comers, but with more rigorous academic requirements, not everyone who is a great athlete can be at a private school while every great athlete can be at a public school — I think it evens out in the wash.

Cannondue, tick tick..gllooommm!! I was at the game and it wasn’t that close when you factor in all the big Mceachern plays that were called back by the refs (most made up). Also, Mceachern turned the ball over too like E.P. East Paulding could not run straight at Mceachern so they had to resort to trick plays like numerous double reverses and such. Mceachern dominated on both sides of the line of scrimmage and games are usually won in the trenches. I have played football (h.s. and college) and coached it too. The refs kept this game close. It was a dominate performance by Mceachern. No Doubt!!!! Get over it dude, your team is third at best in region 5 this year. All teams go thru a rebuilding process like E.P. Your team was better last year. For the record, the reason that E.P. beat Mays several years ago was because they had 9 starters suspended from their previous playoff game due to a fight with Cedar Shoals HS (I was at the game and witnessed the fight).

@ BERNIE MATT, K-MAN & MAYSALUM, I have the pleasure of teaching at MHS and I have to say that Bernie Matt is spot on. As much as I love working at Mays, those football players are terrible. And the sad thing about it is that they don’t have to be. While I don’t agree with all the coaches’ decisions as a whole, it’s not even really their fault. Check with some of the past coaches that have worked at that school. I’m not going to call out any names, but the problem goes much higher than the special teams, qb, defensive, and even head coaches. The problem is the culture of the school. When you pull the football players out of class to take them out to eat for a simple win, what do you think you are telling them? When a player has a problem with the coach and someone tells them that it is the COACH that has the problem what type of problem do you think you are creating? When things at the top change, we will get the disciplined team we deserve!!!!

TrojanDude and BluEagle I’m not quite seeing the parity you are seeing in 1AAAAA. I see 5 playoff possible teams for 4 slots at this point.
Coffee, HoCo and Tift are not in that category, unless there is some serious improvement on their part. I know you want to see Coffee as one of them, but I’m not seeing it. Coffee is down this year too. Just not as far down as HoCo and definitely not as far as Tift has dropped.

East Paulding and Region FIVE are a very strong region and will only get BETTER EVERY YEAR. Most of the Coaches in Region Five are some of the states best if not the best. Times are changing
One last thing……. There’s a little 2AA team ranked 59th of all teams in the U.S up north in East Tennessee that would run all over any team at any level in your almighty overrated football in Georgia,,,,,, PERIOD.
The Alcoa Tornadoes started as a small blip on the football radar in 2003, with consecutive State championships in 2004,2005,2006,2007,2008, they are a Force unlike anyone has seen from a small public school of 400 or so total enrollment. Prepfootball:
Tucker-Marist will be a matchup of great talent that played poorly against an overmatched team (Tucker) against a team that doesn’t necessarily have a bevy of great athletes, but has rock-solid execution (Marist). If Tucker can solve its problems with poor execution (procedure/offside penalties) and self-discipline (way too many PFs and unsportsmanlike conducts), it will be a heck of a game. If tucker executes and displays the lack of discipline that it did against Miller Grove, then it’s going to be a looong night for the Tigers.
By the way, my beloved Monroe Area Hurricanes cannot lose this week. They’re off.

Whatever: If your point is that Marist displays great pride and honor by choosing to play up two classes at AAAA, when it could play AA given its actual size, then yes your point has been made. I can’t say why other private schools don’t play up — just like I can’t say why Buford chooses not to play up either (and don’t tell me that Buford does not recruit — can you say Ryan Dillard?!).
