Virginia Tech’s band will be playing in Augusta at halftime of tonight’s Evans – Lakeside game in honor of Ryan Clark. Clark graduated from Lakeside and was a member of the Marching Virginians at Tech. He was one of the 32 victims of the VT shooting. There’s a great video news segment on wdbj7.com (Roanoke).

I’ve lived and followed high school football in states that play better overall quality of football than Georgia. That’s not necessarily bad since every state can’t be the best but the dumbest thing I have noticed since moving to Georgia a few years back is this north vs south trash talk coming from mostly the southern part of the state. What gives? Do you folks have nothing else to do? The only thing this does is make you look and sound stupid.

Well SWD trumps Miller Grove 21-7 now its back to business sometimes the pressure to regain that #1 spot can make you better. MLK was a setback but now we are looking forward now Forsyth Central is next and oh yeah Tucker didn’t prove they were number 1 by bullying Lakeside everybody in Dekalb usually bullies Lakeside what was different Lakeside beat Columbia last week and now they are legit I doubt it. Oh yeah Avondale is having a good start but legitimate contenders in 2A Im skeptical. Oh yea Stephenson Trounced Columbia what a shame. McEachern Fans – hats off to a great game. I said it before that this game would have a huge impact on the Region 5-AAAAA race. My gut said McEachern had a good team and would be in the running. Boy was I wrong! McEachern has a great team… and I think is now the front-runner in Region 5-AAAAA. Watch out Wolverine Fan!

For me tonight makes Lowndes far and away the number one team in the state. Grayson barely beat Camden (who struggled mightily against an average First Coast team) and only put up 10 against Warner Robbins. I don’t want to hear about how much possession and how many yards they had against Camden and Robbins, Lowndes got it done tonight whereas Grayson has just been squeeking by.

Also more on Camden, I think they’ve probably had the best pass defense in the state most if not all of the past six years. That is not the case this year. Camden will be very vulnerable to any pass offense this year, and that vulnerability will be a big issue verse Hoover.

WHERE IS TODD HOLCOMB? I expect a metro Atlanta program excuse thread to come at any moment. I am certain that Todd Holcomb will be reporting about a Wednesday afternoon outbreak of the swine flu at Peachtree Ridge HS which hindered P-Ridge’s best effort.

Todd, a great Georgia High School football game pairs the top two programs in the state. Let’s agree that Peachtree Ridge is not one of the top two programs in the state. As I told you, the Camden County/Grayson game deserves real ink. Peachtree Ridge traveling to Lowndes County does not deserve ink. Ironically, I expect very little ink from you or any of your partners at the AJC since Peachtree Ridge did what most metro Atlanta teams do when they travel south, which is getting the score run up on them. Lowndes County 51, Peachtree Ridge 17. The Vikings play the third stringers in a game that Todd Holcomb proclaims is a potential Georgia classic. What P-Ridge team are you watching Todd? Admit it, you drank the Kool-Aid…the AJC/metro Atlanta hype!

Yes, we are struggling this year but, we must take the pain that comes with a young team, Grayson and PeachtreeRidge are vastly overrated. They struggled greatly with two teams that are in the process of rebuilding. Good job Northside. Wonderfull, job Lowndes. The trophy seems as if, it may stay in the south again. Coach the fans in Camden County love and respect you, but its time to make a quarterback change. I respect what are doing but the kid is holding back our offense back, please, play Ruiz. Coach you’re the one with the three State Championships so i will trust your judgement. Ruiz just plays and look better.

Problems through the 2009 season alert: Tift County. What has happened down in Tifton? Does anyone know if they have opened a new school or something. Tift County is one of the great historic programs in Georgia with big time facilities, athletes, tradition, and everything needed to win.

Brooks County 27, Tift County 7 (in Tifton). Seriously??? This is the second straight season that Brooks County has easily beaten Tift County. What is the problem down there?

I’m impressed that your young men could come to the Concrete Palace (hard for any visiting team to win here) and maintain their composure and sportsmanship. Well coached team and good hard nose players. Your program deserves respect and we give it. The Ridge has a Championship history and for the Grayson fans out there, that’s what matters. Get some history under your belt and then start talking. Maybe then you will get some respect.

Due respect to more seasoned teams- Grayson High School has been in existence for 10 years- about 5 years in AAAAA. We don’t have bragging rights from the past to pull from. Three of our past 4 games (playoff games last year & 2 openers this year) have been wins against Lowndes, Camden & Warner Robbins. I don’t care who you are or what program you are supporting, you have to admit that is something to respect– even from you South Georgia Powerhouses.

One more question for the great historians– Just wondering?? When was the last time a Warner Robbins team was shut-out two years in a row? Get back to me on that one if you don’t mind–

Thought on “the game” last night. Until he went out with a slight concussion in the second quarter, Tyler Hunter (junior) showed why he will be playing in a Div1 college and most likely as a safety some where. He returns the opening kick off for a touchdown. On 1st offensive play for Ptree he yanks the ball from the ball carrier and romps 40 yards for another TD. Next posession for PTree on 3rd down he pops the receiver who had caught the ball on the sideline and the ball pops free and into the hands of Michael Copeland. All I can say is Wow! Maybe a good thing for PTree he didn’t play any more after midway through the second quarter.

If there ever was a game in which statistics didn’t mean any thing this was the game. Yes Ptree had more offense than Lowndes in the first half. That would be because Lowndes defense would not let Lowndes offense get on the field pretty much the whole first quarter. Our defense was scoring so many points I was beginning to think PTrees offense was going to wear our defense out with Time of Possession. LOL

The 2nd quarter was the only boring quarter of the game.
PTrees offense in the first half primarily consisted of one long run in which the full back broke free up the middle (allah GT’s Jonathan Dwyer). Unlike Dwyer and due to Lowndes speed he couldn’t take it all of the way and PTree had to settle for a field goal. 24-3 Lowndes at half time. Story of the first half…Lowndes defense dominated.

Second half.
Ptree (just like Lowndes in the first half) returns the opening kickoff for a touchdown. It was a very nice determined run be the Ptree kickoff returnee. That was it for PTree for the rest of the game until Lowndes put in second stringers in the 4th quarter on defense.
Lowndes showed who they are on offense in the second half. The offense took control of the game and quickly answered the opening second half kick return. The Lowndes offense would go on to post 246 yards rushing in the second half and finish the game with 297 rushing (according to the Valsosta Daily Times). Lowndes offense put up 27 points in the second half. Story of the second half…Lowndes offense dominated.

Ptrees lone offensive TD came against Lowndes second string defense.
Until Lowndes second string went in the only substantial offense PTree had up to that point was the one run up the middle that set up the first half field goal.
A large portion of PTrees offensive yardage for the game came against Lowndes second string defense. So ignore the stats of this game.
Lowndes defense was on the field and dominated the first quarter.
Lowndes offense was on the field and dominated the second half. Lowndes defense continued to dominate in the second half and kept giving the ball back to the offense.

Ptree is as advertised. Lowndes is not a routinely 51-17 point advantage team over PTree as this game would show. Ptree is BIG.
Especially on the offensive line. Ptree will be there at season end.
Normally Lowndes would not be able to match the size of Ptree offensive line but we can this year (at least close enough). PTree is a wounded and hungry lion and is to be feared for the remaining of the season for any one who should have to come up against them. Having said that, ignore the stats of this game…Lowndes dominated just like the score showed. Ptrees turnovers were the result of a hard hitting Lowndes defense that was bringing the wood Friday night.

2009 Lowndes can be the best Lowndes team ever. It is up to them.

Congratulations on good wins last night for both Lowndes County and Grayson. These two teams play contrasting styles of football. From the descriptions of the games, it sounds like Lowndes is explosive and can strike at any time. Grayson plays with a powerhouse defense and a ball control offense that runs the clock.

If they have the opportunity to meet again it should be a very interesting game to watch.

Hey I made the trip to Loganville since my Eagles were off last night and I was impressed with Terry Williams and the rest of the Grayson defense , But really ,not hating on Grayson ,I really like what Conn is doing up there…….If Grayson’s offense doesn’t come around , not the offense i should say the offensive line , and the stale play calling ,You could sit in the stands and predict accurately Grayson next call, they won’t have a chance to win the state title. The Warner Robins defense was in Grayson’s backfield busting up plays all evening .I didn’t expect to see this from the #2 team in the state….The Grayson defense had WR in check all night ,I don’t think the Demons past their own 40 yard line….But the game was in reach the entire night , a miscue ,fumble ,blocked punt and WR could have walked away with a win ,even with only 50 yards total offense…… Grayson’s defense is one of the best in AAAAA ,but the offense is lagging far behind….If you’re nationally ranked and #2 in the State you have to make a bigger statement than a 10-0 shutout on an average AAAAA team, not saying you have to run up the score ,but make it clear to all who Grayson is….Lowndes 51 – Ridge 17……..MLK 49 – N Cobb 12……MacEachern 49 – Etowah 10, this is what you call making a statement.

I think everyone knows and is saying the same thing. Grayson is not there yet and Lowndes is the number one team until someone beats them. I just watched Lowndes game. All I have to say is WOW. I watched Grayson game, wheres the offense? I watched Stephenson, I see why there are so many being recruited there.

I want to throw another discussion point out there. How many times has Lowndes/Valdosta redistricted and split up schools and players? I think all the Gwinnett schools split and devide almost every 8 years. How can you build a dynasty and win when schools split and make new schools every 5 to 8 years in Gwinnett. And that hurts when your school opened their doors in the last 8 to 10 years. Not taking anything away from the South, they build them strong down there and wins are wins. But history lessons hold no water to me, only current season matters to young programs in Gwinnett. And everyone suspects it will be one Gwinnett team and Lowndes in the Championship this year. I think all the Gwinnett schools split and devide almost every 8 years.
How can you build a dynasty and win when schools split and make new schools every 5 to 8 years in Gwinnett. **Yes you do and correct you can’t. Besides a now good football program, what has made Grayson competitive (population growth) will eventually be Grayson’s downfall. Until Gwinnett population growth Gwinnett was never competitive. Population growth is what has enabled Gwinnett to be competitive. Population growth is your blessing and population growth is your curse.**

And that hurts when your school opened their doors in the last 8 to 10 years. **It is population growth and good coaching that has enabled Grayson and PTree to become so good so fast.**

Sure seems to be a lot of bragging from the Lowndes fans. I’m not denying they aren’t a great team, but didn’t a metro Atlanta team (Grayson) go into TITLETOWN last year and beat one of the supposed best teams in the country?

Better watch out for Grayson, they look even better this year.

As a Lowndes booster,had to be pleased and impressed with vikings effort. The kids played hard and stayed focused even with the early lead. Way to early to give us the championship, 1-aaaaa is not a walk through region, it will be challenging. Also expect to see Peachtree Ridge in the playoffs. They got stunned but they are big and talented.

SouthGARules, thanks for breakdown of Gwinnett school splits. I think Parkview and Brookwood will be back in a few years. Grayson will hurt after this group of seniors leave, but not for long, those coaches know how to pull them together. I am wondering, what is up with South Gwinnett, 49 points in each of their games.

I thought P. Ridge was mostly seniors?

Ok ok ok, all this Grayson is overated and Lowndes is the best. look Lowndes in The Powerhouse of Georgia an Grayson is the Powerhouse of Metro Atlanta, But both teams need to focus on there own schedules because they dont play each other when playofss come around then u can talk but till then we can just keep watching and see what happens. by the way someone in region 8 needs to step up and put up a fight against the Rams, I say The Comets will do that in week 4.

TrueBlue, I don’t really understand your rhetoric,but I am gathering that you want to know how many black kids go to college on football scholarships. I am pretty certain that Lowndes doesn’t keep a running tally on that, but I do know that down here in Hooterville we have the opportunity to use something they call the HOPE GRANT. If a student has a good enough GPA in high school, they can go to college for free! I have had three kids go to college this way and none of them ever touched a football. I’m going to go out on a limb here, but I think that folks down here in the boondocks consider the football players as a team or family, not as black or white. If one of the kids gets a Div 1 scholarship or any scholarship for that matter, we all are proud, whether they be black or white.

TrueBlue you are making the argument of a “I have to find some way to be better than Lowndes” loser. To answer your question, yes, if a kid wants to go on and play football at a lower level and a NAIA school or whatever school wants them, then the coaches help to get them a scholarship. Of course at Lowndes we do expect our kids to actually graduate as seniors first. Lowndes had very few seniors last year. Valdosta (I believe) didn’t have an abundance of seniors but did send a number to smaller colleges besides the 2 they sent to Ga and Ga Tech.
Lowndes will have more going to college than you can name after this year. Many will be Div1 and even more will be smaller colleges. Let me give you a small math lesson, if you don’t have 10 or 15 seniors graduate from your football team that want to conitune playing football every year, then you can’t put 10 or 15 on a football scholarship. As viking lover has stated, some of our football players choose to give up football after high school (Hope, etc.). The real question is does the kids in your school (including your football program) have the grades to get a scholarship without having to continue playing football. You do understand it only takes a B average in Georgia, I hope.

We know everybody can’t go to the NFL , but you can major in anything in college and get a degree. Very few kids anywhere get a true free education in football or anyother sport. Most of the scholarships are partial one. Schools are given so much money each year for scholarships and they spread the money out to get as many players as possible. When you are told that a kid got a scolarship you need to ask if it is a FULL scholarship because they tend not to tell you that you will have to pay room and board, food and books. We all know that this can cost thousands more. Not all kids want to play football after highschool, but get acidemic scholarships in the olace of a football one. but still again it is not always a “FREE EDUCATION”.

I knew the ridge was somewhat overrated when Southwest scrimmaged them and we shut their varsity out 7-0 they had no real chance of beating us with their offense I will go out on a limb and say SWD has one of the best if not the best defenses in the state. Challenge me on that. Peachtree is big and thats about it I really thought they would whoop us but nope their large line man and big backs were way too soft for us not to take advantage.

7-0 after the third and final varsity quarter. 7-7 when the JV stepped in and mr footballer it wasnt worth wearing our new jerseys for a scrimmage and yes dont get mad because you all are overrated and couldnt stick with a AAAA team and SMH Lowndes definitely tore you all a new one.
