Due respect to more seasoned teams- Grayson High School has been in existence for 10 years- about 5 years in AAAAA. We don’t have bragging rights from the past to pull from. Three of our past 4 games (playoff games last year & 2 openers this year) have been wins against Lowndes, Camden & Warner Robbins. I don’t care who you are or what program you are supporting, you have to admit that is something to respect– even from you South Georgia Powerhouses.

One more question for the great historians– Just wondering?? When was the last time a Warner Robbins team was shut-out two years in a row? Get back to me on that one if you don’t mind–

Wolverine Fan – I am not speaking for Etowah Fan, but from my prospective, Etowah was mismatched to compete with this team. McCeachern’s team speed killed Etowah all night. Punt returns, fake punts, why not, they were way too fast to defend. I thought the game was over when Etowah kicked off to start the game with their patented pooch kick, clearly stating we are afraid to kick to you Why not let the opponnet start every drive at the 50? . I had thought they had finally put it on the shelf? Oh well, Wolverine Fan – today is depressing, for Etowah fans, coaches, and players. I still believe we are better than that performance, and a playoff team, but need to get better at everything, from blocking, tackling, running, throwing, play calling, and clock management, of course. It was just plain ugly from top to bottom. Then again, McCeachern made all of this happen, they are damm good, and look like champions already. I don’t see either East stopping them or Woodstock keeping up. Watch ou!

I like to read the football blogs but I have to say that I’m very disappointed with the grammar and sentence structure that comes from supposed High School students. Some of you really need to proofread your comments b4 hitting the submit button.

Go Lowndes, Northside, W.R. and Valdosta.

Thought on “the game” last night. Until he went out with a slight concussion in the second quarter, Tyler Hunter (junior) showed why he will be playing in a Div1 college and most likely as a safety some where. He returns the opening kick off for a touchdown. On 1st offensive play for Ptree he yanks the ball from the ball carrier and romps 40 yards for another TD. Next posession for PTree on 3rd down he pops the receiver who had caught the ball on the sideline and the ball pops free and into the hands of Michael Copeland. All I can say is Wow! Maybe a good thing for PTree he didn’t play any more after midway through the second quarter.

If there ever was a game in which statistics didn’t mean any thing this was the game. Yes Ptree had more offense than Lowndes in the first half. That would be because Lowndes defense would not let Lowndes offense get on the field pretty much the whole first quarter. Our defense was scoring so many points I was beginning to think PTrees offense was going to wear our defense out with Time of Possession. LOL

The 2nd quarter was the only boring quarter of the game.
PTrees offense in the first half primarily consisted of one long run in which the full back broke free up the middle (allah GT’s Jonathan Dwyer). Unlike Dwyer and due to Lowndes speed he couldn’t take it all of the way and PTree had to settle for a field goal. 24-3 Lowndes at half time. Story of the first half…Lowndes defense dominated.

Second half.
Ptree (just like Lowndes in the first half) returns the opening kickoff for a touchdown. It was a very nice determined run be the Ptree kickoff returnee. That was it for PTree for the rest of the game until Lowndes put in second stringers in the 4th quarter on defense.
Lowndes showed who they are on offense in the second half. The offense took control of the game and quickly answered the opening second half kick return. The Lowndes offense would go on to post 246 yards rushing in the second half and finish the game with 297 rushing (according to the Valsosta Daily Times). Lowndes offense put up 27 points in the second half. Story of the second half…Lowndes offense dominated.

Read the story here.

http://www.valdostadailytimes.com/sports/local_story_248050945.html?start:int=15

Ptrees lone offensive TD came against Lowndes second string defense.
Until Lowndes second string went in the only substantial offense PTree had up to that point was the one run up the middle that set up the first half field goal.
A large portion of PTrees offensive yardage for the game came against Lowndes second string defense. So ignore the stats of this game.
Lowndes defense was on the field and dominated the first quarter.
Lowndes offense was on the field and dominated the second half. Lowndes defense continued to dominate in the second half and kept giving the ball back to the offense.

Ptree is as advertised. Lowndes is not a routinely 51-17 point advantage team over PTree as this game would show. Ptree is BIG.
Especially on the offensive line. Ptree will be there at season end.
Normally Lowndes would not be able to match the size of Ptree offensive line but we can this year (at least close enough). PTree is a wounded and hungry lion and is to be feared for the remaining of the season for any one who should have to come up against them. Having said that, ignore the stats of this game…Lowndes dominated just like the score showed. Ptrees turnovers were the result of a hard hitting Lowndes defense that was bringing the wood Friday night.

2009 Lowndes can be the best Lowndes team ever. It is up to them.

Harrison won an exciting game over a team they should have breezed by. This will certainly be a “rebuilding” year for the hoyas. However, a win is a win! Congrats to the McEachern Indians. It looks like they are on a roll. Hey Wolvorine Fan; I’m not so sure that you should be looking forward to taking on the Indians.

No kidding MarkB.

Congratulations on good wins last night for both Lowndes County and Grayson. These two teams play contrasting styles of football. From the descriptions of the games, it sounds like Lowndes is explosive and can strike at any time. Grayson plays with a powerhouse defense and a ball control offense that runs the clock.

If they have the opportunity to meet again it should be a very interesting game to watch.

Hey I made the trip to Loganville since my Eagles were off last night and I was impressed with Terry Williams and the rest of the Grayson defense , But really ,not hating on Grayson ,I really like what Conn is doing up there…….If Grayson’s offense doesn’t come around , not the offense i should say the offensive line , and the stale play calling ,You could sit in the stands and predict accurately Grayson next call, they won’t have a chance to win the state title. The Warner Robins defense was in Grayson’s backfield busting up plays all evening .I didn’t expect to see this from the #2 team in the state….The Grayson defense had WR in check all night ,I don’t think the Demons past their own 40 yard line….But the game was in reach the entire night , a miscue ,fumble ,blocked punt and WR could have walked away with a win ,even with only 50 yards total offense…… Grayson’s defense is one of the best in AAAAA ,but the offense is lagging far behind….If you’re nationally ranked and #2 in the State you have to make a bigger statement than a 10-0 shutout on an average AAAAA team, not saying you have to run up the score ,but make it clear to all who Grayson is….Lowndes 51 – Ridge 17……..MLK 49 – N Cobb 12……MacEachern 49 – Etowah 10, this is what you call making a statement.

Ramfan24, Please…….. Grayson is no Lowndes!!!! So. don’t get it twisted. Only 10 points last night. And you almost lost to a depleted Camden team this year. We all know if Camden had punted they would of won. Their coach lost that game and he admitted that. Was at that game and your defense wasn’t exactly impressive to me. Even after defeating Lowndes last year you guys still haven’t showed me nothing is all I’m saying. Got to show me more to get my props. Yes, i do think Grayson is good but you guys haven’t made any statements to cement yourselves as a powerhouse in AAAAA.

why are all south ga teams so mad at atlanta area schools? yall always mad. nobody told yall to live in them country towns down there. theres one school for miles and miles down there, all the talent goes to that one school, so yall should be good. could you imagine if that were the case in atlanta? for instance, one school on the east side of dekalb county, SWD, MLK, AND STEPHENSON, were combined, that school would win state every year, so yall in south ga just be happy with the advantage you have.

I think everyone knows and is saying the same thing. Grayson is not there yet and Lowndes is the number one team until someone beats them. I just watched Lowndes game. All I have to say is WOW. I watched Grayson game, wheres the offense? I watched Stephenson, I see why there are so many being recruited there.

I want to throw another discussion point out there. How many times has Lowndes/Valdosta redistricted and split up schools and players? I think all the Gwinnett schools split and devide almost every 8 years. How can you build a dynasty and win when schools split and make new schools every 5 to 8 years in Gwinnett. And that hurts when your school opened their doors in the last 8 to 10 years. Not taking anything away from the South, they build them strong down there and wins are wins. But history lessons hold no water to me, only current season matters to young programs in Gwinnett. And everyone suspects it will be one Gwinnett team and Lowndes in the Championship this year. Question will be which Gwinnett team will it be. I hope it is Lowndes and Grayson in the dome on no soggy field…YO.

Look guys. I go to Grayson, and I have been for two years now. I’ve lived here all of my life and I’ve played football as long as i can remember. That being said, I’m very familiar with the offense. The way it is set up, it is not supposed to be a “run the score up” or “blow out” offense. It’s all about clock management and putting the ball in when we need it. Yes, we can work on this. And yes, Lowndes had a very great game against Peachtree Ridge last night too. Yes, I believe everything we’ve done is in the past now. In my opinion, The Ridge was probably the most overrated team in the state. Last night they were exposed for who they are. Lowndes people, you are a very good program. Stop hating on North Georgia and Gwinnett County just because you beat one team from here. Save all the trash talk for the field, not on an ajc forum guys.

MARCUS come on guy you act like thats the reason the only reason its like that is bc of the population up there its just like that in the valdosta area you have lowndes, valdosta, brooks, lanair, cook, echols, valwood 7 schools in the valdosta metro area. Now im not saying its like atlanta by no means but if u combine all that talent man we would never lose. Stop using that as a excuse

TJ asks:How many times has Lowndes/Valdosta redistricted and split up schools and players? **Other than Valdosta city annexing in some of the county lately we haven’t.**

I think all the Gwinnett schools split and devide almost every 8 years.
How can you build a dynasty and win when schools split and make new schools every 5 to 8 years in Gwinnett. **Yes you do and correct you can’t. Besides a now good football program, what has made Grayson competitive (population growth) will eventually be Grayson’s downfall. Until Gwinnett population growth Gwinnett was never competitive. Population growth is what has enabled Gwinnett to be competitive. Population growth is your blessing and population growth is your curse.**

And that hurts when your school opened their doors in the last 8 to 10 years. **It is population growth and good coaching that has enabled Grayson and PTree to become so good so fast.**

To the Grayson posters who believe that 4 or 5 well placed wins account for historical respect in 5A football, I offer my condolences. Sounds to me from the reports I’m hearing , the Grayson offense is sorely lacking. Lowndes has scored 126 points in two outings. I believe that comes to about 63 points per game on average. I believe our first string defense has given up a total of 10 points in two games. If my redneck math is right, that’s about 63-5 avg. per game. Perhaps the mighty Grayson offense can achieve a total of 63 points throughout the entire season. I wish you luck. At the end of the day the bloody, decapitated ram horns will still be solidly affixed the mighty Viking war helmet. We pray for another chance at Grayson. Your false assesment of yourselves will be your downfall, as well as your under achieving offense.

TJ: Valid points about redistricting, but Parkview, Brookwood & Peachtree Ridge have not been affected by redistricting.
In recent years the following schools have been affected: Collins Hill, North Gwinnett, Duluth (Peachtree Ridge), Dacula, Collins Hill (Mill Creek), South Gwinnett, Central Gwinnett (Grayson), Mill Creek, Dacula, Collins Hill (Mountain View) & Central Gwinnett, Grayson (Archer)

Man!! I feel sorry for Douglass. The closing of Bowen Homes has caused problem, I only saw about 35 players and that was with b-team players. It will be long year for Douglass, a double a team playing at quint a. The #11 for Douglass/ Godden is the truth. For as Mays defense, once again here we go with that wad of grass out of bull aZZ! Mays defense was lackluster went into the game knowing it was a win. So that why they gave 3 run over 25 yds, unacceptable for Mays defense. Mario Turner for Mays had pretty good game/ but because he the defense anchor, I give B
for the game. But I know with rematch with Whitewater the defense will show up.

Did anyone notice the small article from the AJC writers about the game. Two nationally ranked teams and such a small article. If PeachTreeRidge had won the game it would have been the lead sports story of the day. Such obvious bias from the AJC highschool writers. The lead story on the page was Grayson’s narrow win against a rebuilding Northside team. Give the North teams like Grayson, PeachTreeRidge, all the ink and teams like Lowndes, Camden, Northside will take all the State Championships. The trophy will stay in the south. And stop all the talk about how Graysons offense is built to slow the pace. Grayson pulled out all the stops the offense is not very good. Struggled alot against two rebuilding programs.

GRAYSON WORE LOWDNES DOWN LAST YEAR BECAUSE THEY HAD TOO MANY PLAYERS GOING BOTH WAYS.IF NOT FOR GREG REID IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A BLOWOUT.I DON’T THINK LOWNDES CAN PLAY 4 QUARTERS OF FOOTBALL AGAINST GRAYSONS.THAT DEFENSE IS BETTER THAN LAST YEAR.DO LOWNDES HAVE MORE THAN 11 PLAYERS THAT CAN PLAY OR IS IT ABOUT THEM 11 GETTING SCHOLARSHIP INSTEAD OF 22 PLAYERS. I KNOW WHAT IT IS AS LONG AS WE WIN STATE AND YALL BOYS BUILD UP MY STATS AS A COACH AFTER YOU GRADUATE YOU CAN WORK IN THE MILLS.PEOPLE IN TITLETOWN KEEP TALKING ABOUT TITLES .
