Georgia High School Football Daily Spotlight: The GHSF Daily chooses its Class AAA Super 11

On Sunday, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, in partnership with Georgia High School Football Daily, will release its 25th Super 11 team, a preseason list of Georgia’s 11 best senior football players.

This week, GHSF Daily will select its Super 11 for each classification. Today, it is Class AAA. (Note: These selections are not the AJC’s.)

Remember that these are seniors only:

DE Henry Anderson, Woodward Academy: Had 70 tackles, 10 for loss, and six sacks last season. He’s a super student (4.1 GPA) who is going to Stanford.

DE/LB Neiron Ball, Jackson: Super fast defensive end, might play linebacker at Florida, to which he has committed. Scout.com reports Ball had 19 sacks in 2008 for a team that ranked No. 1 in scoring defense in Class AAA. The assessment of Ball’s coach, Mike Parris – “He’s good as hell” – is one of our favorite preseason quotes.

QB Terrell Brigham, Burke County: The Augusta Chronicle player of the year passed for 1,797 yards and rushed for 1,155 for an 8-4 …

Georgia High School Football Daily Spotlight: A look at the state’s top defensive backs

As part of an ongoing series, GHSF Daily is listing the best five players in Georgia at the following positions – quarterback, running back, receiver, offensive lineman, defensive lineman, linebacker, defensive back and kicker/punter.

Today, we resume with defensive backs. In making these choices, we value a history of production over potential (listed in alphabetical order).

NOTE: These picks are made by GHSF Daily, not by the AJC or its staff.

Ryan Ayers, South Paulding: Ayers is a two-way player who had five interceptions and 16 pass receptions last season. He’s almost always the fastest player on the field. Scout and Rivals each rate him among the top 20 cornerbacks nationally.

Isaiah Johnson, Sandy Creek: Probably the best defensive back in school history, Johnson had seven interceptions and 35 solo tackles, including several sacks, last season. When he was named to the GHSF Daily’s preseason all-state team for all classes in June, he was not highly rated by the …

Georgia High School Football Daily Spotlight: The GHSF Daily chooses its Class AA Super 11

On Sunday, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, in partnership with Georgia High School Football Daily, will release its 25th Super 11 team, a preseason list of Georgia’s 11 best senior football players.

This week, GHSF Daily will select its Super 11 for each classification. Today, it is Class AA.

We struggled with AA a little more than A and regretted leaving out a couple of Region 6-AA receivers (GAC’s Julian Horton and Blessed Trinity’s Jake Skole) and a pair of Division I-A offensive linemen (Adairsville’s Catlin Alford and Buford’s Du’Von Millsap), among others. (Note: These selections are not the AJC’s.)

Remember that these are seniors only:

WR Markeith Ambles, Henry County: Recently committed to Tennessee, Ambles caught 40 passes for 764 yards (19.1 per reception) and eight touchdowns in 2008. Ambles is a consensus top 10 recruit in Georgia and perhaps the best receiver in school history over recent graduates Jamal Patterson (Stanford) and Chris Jackson (Auburn).

QB B.J. …

Georgia High School Football Daily Spotlight: A look at the state’s top linebackers

As part of an ongoing series, GHSF Daily is listing the best five players in Georgia at the following positions – quarterback, running back, receiver, offensive lineman, defensive lineman, linebacker, defensive back and kicker/punter.

Today, we resume with linebackers. In making these choices, we value a history of production over potential (listed in alphabetical order).

NOTE: These picks are made by GHSF Daily, not by the AJC or its staff.

LB Michael Carlisle, Jonesboro: Carlisle had nearly 10 tackles a game for Jonesboro, which won seven games – more than the previous three seasons combined. Carlisle appears headed to Mississippi State, though he has not committed.

LB Michael Copeland, Lowndes: Copeland and teammate Telvin Smith form perhaps the best linebacker pair in Georgia. Copeland was the more consistent on the field last season with his 102 tackles, six sacks and 16 tackles for loss. He is leaning toward taking an offer from Vanderbilt.

LB Tyrone Cornelius, …

Georgia High School Football Daily Spotlight: A look at the state’s top defensive linemen

As part of an ongoing series, GHSF Daily is listing the best five players in Georgia at the following positions – quarterback, running back, receiver, offensive lineman, defensive lineman, linebacker, defensive back and kicker/punter.

Today, we resume with defensive linemen.

In making these choices, we value a history of production over potential (listed in alphabetical order).

Garrison Smith, Douglass: Smith had a monster year in 2008 with 14 sacks and 27 tackles for loss. Smith is rated the No. 2 defensive tackle by Scout and Rivals, keeping up a recent tradition of highly rated Georgia players at the position. DeAngelo Tyson of Statesboro (2007) and Abry Jones of Northside Warner Robins (2008) had similar ratings. Smith has committed to Georgia.

T.J. Stripling, Southwest DeKalb: A 6-foot-6 defensive end, Stripling had 18 tackles for losses and 14 sacks last season for a 9-4 team. Rivals ranks Stripling the No. 2 overall player in Georgia behind Calhoun receiver Da’Rick …

Georgia High School Football Daily Spotlight: A look at the state’s top receivers

As part of an ongoing series, GHSF Daily is listing the best five players in Georgia at the following positions – quarterback, running back, receiver, offensive lineman, defensive lineman, linebacker, defensive back and kicker/punter.

Today, we resume with receivers.

Markeith Ambles, Henry County: Recently committed to Tennessee, Ambles caught 40 passes for 764 yards (19.1 per reception) and eight touchdowns in 2008. He also was one of the most dangerous return men in the state, running back three punts and one kickoff for scores. His numbers should go up substantially in 2009 now that teammate Jamal Patterson is off to Stanford.

Blake Gowder, Union County: Gowder caught 77 passes for a state-best 1,453 yards in 2008. Only Division I-AA schools have made Gowder offers so far, and he might wind up as a tight end, H-back or fullback in college.

Tai-ler Jones, Gainesville:
