To compare Ealy with Herschel Walker is a bad joke. “The Johnson County Flash” was bigger, had World Class speed (just ask Carl Lewis) and gave 100% every play. There will never be another talent like Herschel so let’s don’t even waste time having that debate…..how soon we forget…..and Herschel was also an honors student at his High School………All of these young bloggers need to watch the old films of Walker leading the Bulldogs to a National Championship.

The biggest hurdle for Ealey will be his attitude. I have watched him play football & Basketball and his behaviour was terrible. My favorite being the Ealey for Heisman towel he pulled out and danced and waved at a WTOC/11 news camera after a touchdown in a close playoff game (A game that should’nt have been close).
He has the potential and I wish him the best but when he gets pushed at GA, we will seperate the men from the boys and so far he has never had to deal with that.
Another great example would be the Brooks co. game of the champ season,he was like school on saturday.

1. Caleb King is not a good running back. Yes he tore up class AA high school defenders in the state of Georgia, but he is not translating that well to the college game. He has the chance to be in the national spotlight as UGA’s next star RB. However, he is putting forth no effort. He doesn’t run hard and is a terible blocker. In fact if Caleb King starts, UGA will not win 6 games this year. He is going to he a HUGE BUST.
2. Ealy…the verdict is still out. He is not a 4.4 guy, but he is big, strong, and powerful. I’m personally looking forward to seeing what he can do at the next level. Only knock on him is that he racked up all those yards playing class A ball against sub-par defenders.
3. Richard Samuel and Carlton Thomas should be the two guys. Samuel is a big, powerful runner. He runs hard, unlike Caleb King. Samuel also has some speed in the open field. His all-round excellent running ability coupled with Carlton Thomas’ “change of pace” style would be a great combination in the backfield. Plus if we can get some production from Ealy, that would be a pretty stacked backfield. There is a reason Samuel beat out King last year, before the injury, and hopefully he will do the same this year. If Samuel starts and gets the majority of carries with Thomas and Ealy accompanying, UGA will win 10 games again and have a chance to do some pretty good things this year. Lets not forget that Joe Cox is a winner, and with him and Richard Samuel in the backfield, it will be a good season. If King starts, not so much….

The OL will be better this year. The RB that can block will get the starting job. The QB has to be protected. I don’t see a Knowshon in any of these RBs. All of these running backs can get the job done. Welcome to UGA Ealey. The OL will be stronger in two more years. When is the last time UGA has seen a veteran OL. wow.go dawgs.

He was particularly bad during the Under Armour All American Game. He just didn’t have the vision to be a great back when he was matched up with the best. Every time I saw him run, he took the hand-off and ran straight into the D Tackle. Probably doesn’t have a quick enough mind to make decisions at the college level. Class A football usually produces recruits worthy of FCS teams only. This guy will probably be a bust at the college football level. He just can’t compete with the SEC defenses.

It frustrates me every time I read or hear about the ‘attitude’ problems so prevalent with young athletes these days. Gone are the days when athletes respected their elders (i.e. coaches), and showed a little humility when it came to their athletic abilities & performances. Yes, there are still some who do/did – Calvin Johnson, David Greene, Peyton Manning, Matt Ryan, etc.). However, so often the sports media shows the attitudes/behaviors of the Allen Iverson’s, Milton Bradley’s, Terrell Owens’, DeAngelo Hall’s, Stephon Marbury’s, Mitch Mustane’s, etc, etc, as if it’s just part of the ‘game’. Sad, sad, sad I say.

Hope this kid adjusts his attitude if in fact there truly are issues.

Matt, where did you get your “Masters degree”? Deepstep University? Wherever you got yours, that institution must not have had an English department. FYI, it’s “master’s degree”. Please post where you received your post-graduate degree, so I can know where not to go for my doctorate.

Great player-will do good things at Georgia. 40 time is a stretch though, as it is most of the time. I remember hearing 4.4 about Moreno and the same about Darius walker a few years ago. Turns out they both ran 4.6 at the combine.Having seen all of them play in person, Ealey is closer to 4.6 than 4.4.

It’s not fair to compare any young running back to Herschel. There’ll never be another Herschel. The National Championship in his freshman year? And almost another in his junior year. Given that, I saw Ealey play as a junior and he was sensational, easily the best back I saw that year. He was injured as a senior, and that impacted his game tremendously. Who knows if he’ll fully recover, but if he does, I’m glad he’s going to be a Dawg. I don’t know his birthdate, but I’m willing to wait and see how he does on the field before I judge him. Is that too much to ask of other fans?

You have the one claim of 101-84 in men’s hoops. If you add the sports together, UGA has a more than comfortable 400-307 advantage. Nice winning percentage of .434% techies…….So I guess our response from now on to your 45-42 chant will be 400-307…..or it could be one of the following…….

Just a little history lesson. Sanks was actually a very good RB who got a case of the drops, some real fumbles, some not, but drop the ball in critical times he did against UF and Tech that I can recall in 1999 (his soph season).

Do you know that he was the 3rd leading rusher in the SEC that year as a sophomore? He actually had about 100 yards more than the guy that everyone now says was so much better, Jamal Lewis (and he had a much higher YPC average).

Obviously his confidence and playing time diminished after the Tech fiasco and then I think he got kicked off the team or out of school his senior year. But who can blame him for being bitter and/or disillusioned given the circumstances of his imminent fame and fortune, which turned to ruin along with being despised by his own fans.

Cut that guy some slack please.

Guys SLOW DOWN! The spring game is a glorified practice/scrimage. Anyone who thinks that game is an indication of how good OR bad the team or any individual player will be is simply football ignorant. It is far too early to label Caleb King bust or boom. Did anyone ever consider that with Samuel and Jackson coming back in the summer from injuries that Caleb was told to take it easy in the game because we can’t afford for him to get hurt? As for Ealey why would anyone want to support or feed into a RUMOR about the kid’s attitude when no one knows him personally? Also keep in mind this is a PUBLIC forum and before you decide to bash a kid who has had limited carries in games (Caleb) or hasn’t even set foot on campus (Ealey) remember there may be recruits and their families looking at these blogs as they try to make deciscions on where to send their kids. Many of the critics I’m sure have little or no athletic ability or true football acumen. So please stop feeding rumors, before you post a criticism make sure it’s legit, and just THINK for a moment how would you feel about sending YOUR son to UGA after reading some of the crap that’s on these blogs? Everyone needs to just relax and see how things unfold this fall. Be a fan, support your team and stop all the doom and gloom and always looking for the negative. At the end of the day only time will tell what kind of team we will have this season and all this school girl “he said, she said” crap won’t have one bit of impact on how they do on the field this fall, BUT it could cost us a recruit. GO DAWGS!

Will Ealey graduate from UGA?? That is the real question. Or will he be apart of the Under Graduate Association like the rest of the buck athletes of that University of so called high standards…. He needs to go to a real University that cares about the person after sports. A University that will make sure he is a productive citizen in this society. He needs to go to a HBCU. He should be at SSU. He will be more career focused than he would be if he goes to UGA. I’m not talking about the NFL (Not For Long).

We have a good O line and it should get better. We need to find the best QB and the best RB’s and let them play. It appears that Cox is the starter, I hope he proves to be the right choice. However, from what I have seen and limited stats, Logan Grey may be the best we have for this season. If Murray is ready and he is the best, get him on the field. As far as RB’s go, King has potential, but is not living upto the hype. Perhaps it was the broken leg, I don’t know, but he does not appear to be delivering. Thomas is our best bet at this point from what I’ve seen and read. With all that being said, Coach Richt and Coach Bobo certainly have more knowledge and experience with this than I, so I will trust them and their decisions. They do get paid the big bucks. I’m with Samoan and will reserve comments on Ealey and other recruits until they make it on campus this summer.

dd, There were enough beautiful women in ATL to keep me worn down. In fact, on most any night you could just stand outside & they would come cruising through the campus. I’m not joking. We didn’t have to rely on round-heeled coeds to select from.

Getting back to football, I sure hope the doggies have a great air game ( highly suspect at this point) because the ground game doesn’t look too promising. Maybe the defense will bail them out! Har Har.

I have been watching this kind of thing play out at UGA for almost 40 years and this kid looks like Gold. The small school thing hurt him in the ratings like it did with Garrison Hearst and other smaller class players. Everyone wanted him but didnt think he would be all that great.
This guy will be in the National headlines by mid season. He has super ability. He and Carlton Thomas will be co-starters and Samuel(lacks vision should move to will LB) and King (lacka physicality) will be distant memories. This is an easy one to spot for an old guy like me.

Cro 25. How do test scores not affect his school grades. These are the requirements he has to meet per NCAA regulations.

For athletes who receive a scholarship from a Division I university on or after August 1, 2008, their initial eligibility will be evaluated under the 16 core course rule. (2004-2005 ninth grade)

you will need 16 core courses as outlined below:

4 years of English
3 years of mathematics (Algebra I or higher)
2 years of natural/physical science (one must be a lab science)
1 year of additional science, math or English
2 years of social studies
4 years of additional core courses (they can be from any listed above or from nondoctrinal religion or philosophy or foreign language)

I thought everyone had to do these just to graduate. I hope the kid does live up to my standards then he’ll do just fine after Football.

I wish young Mr. Ealey the best and I hope he becomes a productive (taxpaying) citizen one day. But I have words of caution for the UGA fans: don’t count your Herschel Walkers before they graduate high school. I know folks at ECI and they tell me it’s not likely he’ll make it. They also tell me he was 19 yrs old when he was running over Single-A high school defenses full of 14, 15 and 16 yr old kids. Life will be different playing against SEC defenses… By the way, I couldn’t find his birthday listed anywhere, so I don’t know how old he is. If anybody REALLY knows, correct me.

From your earlier postings I can see you don’t agree with the treatment this young man is already receiving when he hasn’t even stepped onto the Ga football field yet. But I do have to add that when you are struggling to finish High School in a po-dunk town in the middle of nowhere then there’s an issue. Yes, you can say that we are showing our adolescence by saying such mean things but the truth of the matter is it’s sad to see such a talented athlete who can barely speak much less graduate with a below average GPA. 2,0 isn’t average to me. A 2.0 is a lame excuse of a GPA. I know kids who slept in class and got a 2.0. I hope the kid proves me wrong but until then I’ll live blissfully in ignorance.

First of all Ealy is a good kid and I hope everything works out for him. Guys let us not past judgement on Caleb King until he has the whole starting offensive line in front of him. Let us keep in mine that when he had that great G-day last year he had the starting o-line in front of him, but keep in mine without them his avg was 4.0 yds per carry his problem was blocking and his blocking was good saturday ,so please give him time.

The kid has talent but the thing that really bothers me is the fact they he is worried about graduating from High School. High School was a joke. If he can muster a 2.0 GPA and a minimum 750 on his SAT then he should be able to play a little next year. I wonder what his class schedule will be for next year? Any suggestions?
