ALSO: Ex-UGA LB recruit to visit Tennessee

UGA signed one RB last year -- Washaun Ealey, who is "almost there" with meeting college entrance requirements (AJC)
Washaun Ealey, who some say is the state’s most accomplished tailback since Herschel Walker, has to clear one final hurdle before making it to Georgia.
The record-breaking senior from Emanuel County Institute told the AJC that he is close to meeting college entrance requirements.
“I’m almost there. By the time graduation comes around, I should be fine,” Ealey said Tuesday night. “I’m doing good in all my classes. I’ve got the test scores. If I keep my grades where they are now, then my test scores are good enough for me [to be academically qualified]. It’s really looking good now.”
Ealey’s sprint toward graduation is a major storyline over the next two months for UGA. The Bulldogs lost Knowshon Moreno to the NFL, and only signed one running back in this year’s recruiting class, Ealey. Georgia coach Mark Richt, who rarely talks about recruits before they arrive on campus, has often mentioned Ealey this spring as a strong candidate for the tailback rotation next season. Ealey’s name will appear on the depth chart the day he reports.
“Georgia fans don’t need to worry, I’m good … I’m going to make it,” Ealey said. As a backup plan, Ealey said UGA coaches have told him that Hargrave (Va.) Military Prep or Georgia Military Junior College are emergency plans. “But we really don’t discuss those options, because we’re all confident I’ll be at Georgia.”
Last weekend, Ealey attended G-Day, his first visit to Georgia’s campus since January. “It was great. I got to meet a lot of the recruits I didn’t know.”
The 5-foot-11, 205-pound Ealey said he is at nearly 100-percent after being hindered with back and ankle injuries during football season. “I’m a lot better. I’m playing baseball.” Ealey plays outfield for Emanuel County Institute and bats leadoff. He has been clocked in the 40-yard dash at 4.4 seconds and is a constant threat on the basepaths, stealing as many as four bases in a baseball game.
During his prolific high school career at the Class A football powerhouse, Ealey rushed for nearly 8,000 yards and set state records for career and single-season touchdowns. He is ranked as the country’s No. 11 running back by Rivals.

I just don’t feel we should put him on the same level as the greatest running back in college football history. I know Twin City wants to take this distinction from Hershel and his hometown Wrightsville, but its very unlikely. To do so, he must enter as a freshman, make immediate impact, be the starter, and lead the team to a championship. That would be great, but ijdk.
Also, as far as ECI being a powerhouse, give me a break. I few flash in the pan good seasons does not equate with the Lincoln Co., Clinch, Hawkinsville, and others in higher classes.

Ramble On: we got a NCAA Regional back in June where we outscored NATS 24-6 in two games. It’s amazing what a three point victory (your first in 8 tries) at Sanford does to the “faithful” alumni of the flats. Enjoy the thrill (and the rings) while it lasts.
Just don’t spill pepsi on your calculator.

Ealey’s problem is the GA high school graduation test. which is difficult to manipulate. Expect Ealey to be the best running back at Hargrave. Don’t expect the see him in Athens any time soon.

Ealey’s attitude is a concern? No it’s not. His attitude is fine. He seems pretty humble for being as great as he is…
I can’t wait till he gets to UGA. We need him now.

Rambler, I recall a loss to Tech in baseball in 2008 during the regular season. How did that end up? 18-6?????????????????????
wardalucci, the only clown on here is you. I’d like to see you try and tackle Ealey. Taking shots at a kid who gets a full ride to play major D-1 college football makes you an @@##!!clown.
Realistically, with the blocking responsibilities required, Ealey is probably looking at a RS year but you never know. He may be good enough to get it done.

Wardalucci,
People have God given skills in lots of different areas. Some have to work harder than others academically. I can assure you that this young man is neither stupid nor a loser. He is doing his best with what God gave him. It is a shame you are not doing the same. It would be hard to exceed the stupidity of your comment. Grow up and realize that your own short comings may well be far greater than those you accuse other of.

Number 1- This Ealey is no Hershel Walker, you will soon see. There is no comparison. UGA fans don’t get your hopes up for that. He is not even a Moreno. Ealey is a hothead. When he gets hit by Florida, Bama, or LSU, you will see. Also if you watched the Dome, he is like Moreno in that he takes himself out when he gets tired or hit hard. He runs closer to a 4.6 or more, and is hardly a constant basestealing threat I have seen him play baseball. Also word has been for a while there is definite reason to worry about his grades and making it, so don’t be surprised when a story comes out about how he “almost” met requirements.

We are holding our breath that this clown makes it out of high school and meets minimum requirements? This clown is either a loser or stupid. Either way should make the UGA faithful proud.
