North Gwinnett’s Jawuan James, one
of the nation’s top offensive lineman, is finished with his world tour. Well, almost. James, who has nearly 30 scholarship offers, plans to attend Alabama’s spring game on Saturday.
Over the few weeks, James has traveled from coast to coast. On the west side, he went as far as Nike Country, i.e. the University of Oregon. Somewhere along the way, James also stopped by UGA, Tennessee and Florida.
The 6-foot-7, 305-pound James has a stack of scholarship letters and says his top five are Alabama, UGA, Florida, Tennessee and Oklahoma. And he’s really liking the Gators after spending five days in Florida last week over spring break.
“I got to see [Urban Meyer] every day,” James said. “He said they really like me, and need athletic offensive tackles. He said that don’t have a true tackle-sized person … they didn’t have another lineman on their team that was both as big as me and as athletic as me. They said I was on the top on Florida’s list for [offensive linemen].”
James got to see the trophies and rings for Florida, the reigning BCS champions. “I liked how all the coaches were hyped up and into it. It was a championship place. All they talk about at Florida is perfection. They want perfection in every play in practice, just in everything they do.”

Mtn Bama – You may be right. His teammate lineman Austin Sheperd committed to Alabama.

How come every kid Carvell writes about is “one of the nation’s top” whatever…And, the kid says “Urban Meyer]… “He said they really like me, and need athletic offensive tackles. He said that don’t have a true tackle-sized person … they didn’t have another lineman on their team that was both as big as me and as athletic as me. They said I was on the top on Florida’s list for [offensive linemen].””
Poor kid – he does not understand that Urban and the rest of the coaches with whom he has met or will meet, including CMR, says the same thing to EVERY recruit that they meet! Reality is going to be oh so hard when he gets whereever he is going!

Ugay man, why don’t you post lottery numbers since you know so much about the Gator program, and family at Ugay.

UGA man, Tennessee fans feel the same way about Marlon Brown as you do about this kid. Just because they leave the state doesn’t mean they won’t do well. I wish him the best wherever he goes.

Better education at Florida? What happened to Percy Harvin, wonderlic score of 12 and smoking weed?
Congratulation Mr. James. You will be successful where ever you go. Urban Meyer said he is looking for someone like you, everyone is looking for someone like you.
Stay at home and be a hero. Be a Bull Dawg for life!

I love the way these UGA fans come on to these blogs and bad mouth other programs just to beg for recruits. Pathetic. These young men can see for themselves what the real deal is and the real deal is Florida. Nobody recruits and develops to potential top notch talent like Pope Urban.

UF has a QB and a coach who will both be gone in 1 or 2 years. QB to the pros and the coach to Notre Dame. UGA has great QB depth and a great coach and human being that will be here. Friends and family can much more easily watch and support a Georgia prospect when they attend UGA. For those who cannot attend the games, certainly media coverage in Georgia focuses on in-state schools, not UF or any of the others outside Georgia. Wherever this prospect goes, he will do well. All the schools he has zeroed in on are good academically. He can be a Georgia hero that went to UGA or he can be that guy from Gwinnett that went somewhere out of state to college. I hope he chooses UGA and wish him well whatever he decides to do.
