Florida’s Urban Meyer offers Georgia’s No. 1 sophomore prospect

BCS champs want Vaughters (Tucker Tigers Football)

The reigning BCS champions want James Vaughters (Tucker Tigers Football)

Florida coach Urban Meyer jumped into the sweepstakes for Georgia’s No. 1 sophomore.

Tucker LB James Vaughters made an unofficial visit to Florida, and sat down with Meyer for about 45 minutes. Florida is offer No. 8 for Vaughters, who also has scholarships promised from UGA, Georgia Tech, Alabama, Clemson, Stanford, N.C. State and Central Florida.

“It was great to meet Coach Meyer,” Vaughters told the AJC on Friday. “Florida has won two national championships in the last three years. He let me see the rings and everything.”

The 6-foot-2, 220-pound Vaughters claims no early favorites. His eyes got big when he was shown around the campus of the reigning BCS champions. “They definitely put a lot into weightlifting. Florida’s weight room is bigger than gyms I’ve seen. [Meyer] seems very interested in character, which is something else that is very good.”

“[Meyer] was also talking about how the team goes to church at 2 p.m. on Sundays. They also have a religious meeting before the games. That’s very important to me. If I went to Florida, I wouldn’t have to worry about finding a church home because they already have that put together.”

Vaughters also discovered that he had an unique connection with Urban Meyer. His mother was a student at the University of Cincinnati that same time Meyer and his wife were there. They didn’t know each other at the time, but they do now. Vaughters checked out Florida on Thursday and is headed to Central Florida for Saturday.

This past season, Vaughters was one of the top defenders for Tucker High School, which won Georgia’s Class AAAA championship and was overloaded with prospects. Tucker is one of the state’s top annual producers of football recruits, and had five seniors sign with major colleges last February.

Valdosta tight end Jay Rome, and Gainesville linebacker A.J. Johnson are some of the state’s other top prospects for 2011. The most impressive thing about Vaughters is not only is he one of the nation’s elite linebackers, he also boasts a 4.0 GPA, which makes him as “automatic” as it gets when offering a sophomore.

The Dawgs need to get on the ball with the early recruits. The Gators are racking up on the best recruits.

Urban very interested in character. Heck, he is known far and wide as someone interested in character. Not. Hopefully James will keep investigating before committing to anyone.

Meyer is interested in character????????? Made me laugh out loud. Virtually every school in the SEC puts football prowess above academics and character (Vandy excepted). But that comment is sooooo absurd, there is no program in the SEC that sells out its integrity for football more than Florida does under Meyer. Not even UGa stoops as low as UF does.

I find myself hoping for UF to fail in football simply because it is hard to root for the school that has the LOWEST average SAT scores of any school in the FBS division of Div I…the lowest ..in the nation. It’s AVERAGE SAT scores could not get admitted to most ACC schools, imagine what some of their lower scores are. Kinda like Percy Harvin getting the lowest score of all seniors tested on the Wunderlich. Disgusting, and disgusting that they are not up front about it.

If you want a true human being and all around great person to send you to the NFL son, you’ll go to UGA. UGA will tell you the truth. Id like for any rival poster on here to name one kid that has transferred fron UGA football out of disgust and hate. Since CMR has been there…not ONE! YOu get the truth here. Cant say the same about UF. They have had several. Tech puts kids in the NFL don’t they? LMAO. UF puts them there also but not before they fail drug tests and blow Wonderlic test scores wide open….12? How in the world did Harvin pass the SAT or did he? LMAO. NO issues with UGA my friend. Id be willing to bet our program has more godly teachings in it than any program in this country and I would also bet that UGA would make you a productive member of society even if you didn’t go to the NFL. How many ten win season since CMRhas been there? Thats what I thought. I laugh when I hear Oscar Meyer talk about Church meetings and such. Devil in disguise. UGA is your home!

Vaughters is coming to Georgia Tech. He’s a secret commitment. He won’t be playing for preacher coach and the mutts. Neither will Stephen Hill. JV, Tucker High School and GT have something in common: We are both the 2008 STATE champions!!! We both got rings to prove it. 45-42, 45-42, 45-42. CPJ for President.

James looks like he’ll be a perfect replacement for Spikes, if Lyin’and WhiningRicht don’t feed him his repetitive pack of lies.
