Christians always have their critics. Anytime someone speaks out in faith, it doesn't matter whether its controversial or whether it is genuinely good-hearted in nature like CMR's comments, there will be someone that says "what a joke..." So, Christians always have their critics, but we have our faith in God. Keep looking up y'all. Forget the naysayers and just keep looking up.

You really decided to make fun of a honest and caring Christian man?

Have you heard the story about his adopted children?

I'd rather have a class act as my coach than some pre-Maradona, because that's the way things are done down here in Georgia.

I find people who denegrate others for their faith to be sad. A life lived without faith and hope is an empty and wasted life. Many of this vent's posters are arrogant and immature individuals, who may only learn that truth too late in life.

The key to prayer is to pay for God's will and to have the faith that it will be accomplished if you are true to his values.

Hope those of you who demonstrate no respect for God or for another man's faith will one day find your own strength and values through a faith in God

I'm sorry I mentioned Saban losing to Hawaii...I could have listed LA Monroe...but I thought that wouldn't be fair (it's certainly not funny to most Bama fans). I was simply comparing their first two years at their respective schools. Saban at Bama and Richt at UGA. If I said something that was not correct..let me know. :)

Seriously, a strong Bama is good for UGA as a strong UGA is good for Bama. Rarely are Bama and AU strong at the same time, and we play AU every year...same with UT and UGA...

FOR THE LOVE OF HEAVEN...... I am SO SICK AND TIRED of CMR critics and their remarks, last time I checked he is the coach not you, so if you can do better by all means fill his shoes. Until then you have no right to judge him or others. As far as the praying, we should all be doing that in these times, especially with the economy. Prayer does work but ultimately it is God's will that makes things happen. If it is meant to happen God will make it so. I am praying that the true UGA fans get behind their coach and team and support them, also pray for them, with these critics and "So Called" fans UGA needs both prayer and support. Do Not make a mockery out of prayer. GOOOOOO DAWGS! God bless you this season with no injuries and the right players!

Look Techies. You know good and well if this same article was written about CPJ you would be bragging about what a great man of integrity he was. Just becasue you hate the team CMR coaches doesnt meen he is a terrible or stupid person. I dont hate paul Johnson. I hate GT. But i dont hate people affiliated with the school, i just hat the school. Im fine with CPJ and think he did a great job of turning you program around in his first season but there is no reason to bash CMR simply because of the school he coaches for. If CMR were techs HC and PJ was the dawgs HC i guarentee the yo would hate CPJ just like you do Coach Richt.

I'm more impressed with the new basketball coach than Richt. Some one should devote some of this limitless UGA blog space to Pete. He took a pack of scrubs to Ky and won. The only bball team worse than UGA is Tech. Both of them should be kicked out of their conferences. I listened to WSB last night to a UGA bball event for the first time in
my life and was delighted that this coach got a very noticeable win. His
enthusiam and devotion is remarkable. How you can find anyone to take on a team in midseason is hard to believe and I'm glad he finally got some spotlight. I hope UGA bball wins the nat champ. This is what college sports is all about. A team that wins all the time is one thing for sure- boring.

After the health of his family this will always be known as "The Richt
Prayer". Recruits at UGA is always the topic of the prayer meeting.
Pastor Richt knows that with 4 and 5 A's UGA 3rdWorld Nation will always accept losses. They will never accept recruiting losses. The team should be remonikered as the UGA "Recruiters".

"Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."
Philippians 4:6-7

Kudos to Coach Richt for not being afraid to talk about his faith in Jesus. The responses on here make me wonder if some people even read the article or are just posted based on the headline. Does God care about football? I don't know but I do know he cares about Mark Richt because Mark Richt is one of His children. I wish I was surprised about some of the comments but I'm not. We always hear how Christians are intolerant but the truth is that the real intolerance comes from the unbelievers toward Christians. But that's okay- Jesus told us that people hated him and they would hate us too.

BTW -- prayer by a believer does work. I can recount tons of answered prayer in my life.

"But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him." Hebrews 11:6

Nothing offends an unbeliever more than those who dare to believe.

I have been a critical of CMR but I don't knock his faith and its role in the program. HEY DUMBASSES. This country was built on the very Christian foundation Richt proclaims. It built this country, not you half witted Socialistic Obama lovers that have absolutely no faith rooted conscience. Wake up pinheads. We went from God,Democracy and great economic prowess to Socialism and depression overnight because
you never picked up a bible. Prove these idiots wrong CMR.

Bamafan:

It is much better to lead young men in the way they should go because that is quite often a huge challenge while beating GT really isn't that big of a deal after 7 wins in a row. That 45-42 probably prevented many Bunglebee suicides. Anyone who prays that God will help them win a game has no concept of what prayer is about. One should respect the rights of others to believe in whatever god they like or have been brought up to believe in, Muslim or other.

Richt uses religion as a recruiting tool for mamas and grandmamas. If he believed what he professes in public, he would do something about the disgraceful behavior of his players both on and off the field. Richt is Barry Switzer in lambs' clothing. This behavior will get him some talented recruits and eight wins a year, but no championship rings.

PTC DAWG,

What's with the digs on Saban? Its only been 2 years you blithering idiot! So he hasn't won an sec title in only 2 years of rebuilding Bama. So what? Richt hasn't won the sec in 4 years. At least Saban has won a division and at least Saban had a far lesser talented Bama team beating Florida in the 4th qtr of the seccg before losing by 11 rather than getting blown out 49-10 by the gators. Saban has 2 sec titles and one nc in fewer years in the sec than Richt does in 8 years at UGA. Also, I don't know that Saban ever lost to Hawaii either at Bama or Lsu but I do know that everyone has their share of embarrassing losses. Just ask Richt. He lost to both Vandy and Kentucky in the same freaking year. How do you do that? Man are you just freaking stupid!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

With the exception of one or two, Tech People are morons. Why do you take cracks at CMR's faith. I thank the true college fans that are and those that are not UGA fans, but still find the class to make respectable comments about CMR.

I just don't get the lack of class from 95% of the tech nerds. Florida fans can come on here and say possitive things about this article shows me that that do have the class to put football aside and acknowledge a good person. The Nerds are so envious of anything that has to do with Georgia it's pathetic. Losers, most of you.

God Bless Coach Mark Richt and any coach or person that is not afraid to show their faith in God.

Here's what many of you apparently don't understand: A person who has great faith isn's afraid of sharing that faith. It's not about football or recruiting. It's about having faith in a higher power and being able to turn things over to that higher power. CMR has great faith and is willing to share that with anyone and everyone. This isn't about anything other than that.

I think for the most part Richt is a classy coach who really cares about his program. Which is why I was so shocked 2 years ago in Jax when he encouraged his players to pull that stupid stunt against The Champs. Now say what you want Dawg fans, that he didn't mean the whole team and yada yada yada...it was STILL an unsportsman act he encouraged. From a punk like Lane Kiffin I would expect such antics but that is not Richts M.O. Remember, that season he had just admonished his team about dancing on Vanderbilts logo...Vanderbilt??? Anyway, since his little meeting with Pope Urban, It looks like he's back on the straight and narrow.

VolNation, how in the world could you get "God cares about Georgia football more than any other school" from this article?

Perhaps you would prefer CMR and his coaches rip their shirts off (ala Chippendale Dancers) at a "pep rally" with football recruits.

LOL at a UGA fan pretending to be LSU Fan. I don't think LSU fans would call it the Chicken Bowl, and I know they wouldn't get their panties in a wad over a GT-UGA discussion.
Why don't you pretend to be a Mississippi State fan?

Bill, I'm quite surprised when posters such as yourself engage in a public forum and the only thing you accomplish is draw attention to your ignorance.

So a coach and their assistants should be held accountable for every action of their 85 players? You trash a coach because of the mishaps of teenage athletes?

My mom and dad were, and continue to be, great parents. They instilled a great work ethic and moral barometer in me and my siblings. All was forged from a strong faith in God, Jesus, and prayer. From their guidance, I knew wrong from right. However, even with such a solid upbringing, I made many mistakes during my youth. I, nor anyone, should hold my parents responsible for the irresponsible decisions I made. The circumstances with coaches are the same. They can offer great guidance, and extend a forgiving nature, but they are NOT responsible for every action of their players.

Food for thought since you like to criticize the misdeeds of athletes. What percentage of non-athlete college students also get arrested for similar mistakes? Probably equal to, or greater, than that of athletes.

Perhaps you shouldn't be so pious and condescending. Instead, get your own house in order.

Prayer is powerful. God cares about every aspect of our lives. Mark Richt is a godly man and I appreciate the fact that he is not ashamed of his faith. Way to go Mark. But, watch out the rabid ungodly Georgia fans will eat you alive if you ever have an eight win season. I hope you can be a positive witness for them and the competition. By some of the comments Tech has more than a few agnostics and unbelievers that could use a touch form God.

I previously wrote an article that was deleted for an unknown reason. There was no profanity or anything offensive. To be a professional writer, it seems like one would be able to muster a response instead of just deleting criticism. Do you think Rivals.com would print this joke of a piece? I would actually like some insight to Orson Charles instead of what people do during their personal time. The LA Times has better coverage of UGA recruiting right now. This is one of the worst written attempts to draw attention to what the ajc now calls "sporting coverage."

In regard to Mark Richt, he is content with the unity of Football and the Church. He will never be fired for that fact that the his religious stances, specifically what the Atlanta Journal is trying to endorse here, outweighs his real performance. UGA - 4th in the SEC recruiting race

Stafford #1 at his position
Moreneo #1 at his position
Wonder what would happen if Saban had these kids?

Religion is a curse laid on the rest of the world by lunatics from the Mid East. New world coming, hopefully, soon, free from lunatics who speak for "God." Not that it matters, but a guy making $4 million a year is a lot more Jew than Christian.

Ridiculous – how about PRAYING that he does his job and beats Florida. 39 point defeat, with more talent than the Gators, is disgusting. Walking out of Alltel listening to him brag on how proud he was of his team made me want to puke. He now has a losing record against SOS at UF, Zook ( who was fired!) and Meyer (2-6 total ). Is there a more underachieving team in America year in and year out? All this in a state with a huge talent pool & and an athletic association that perpetually ranks in top the 5 in profitability…Not to mention $250.00 donation requirements for the worst seats in the house, not to mention taking away all tailgating parking spaces so that we have to park in the decks, at 25.00 a pop, which were already built and paid for by the tax payers of the state of Ga. BLAH~!
