What will Greg Reid do on Tuesday night?

The state and (gulp) nation awaits, as Reid has transformed himself into arguably the county’s “hottest” college football prospect over the last month.

Reid, the AJC’s Player of the Year, will choose between Alabama, Florida State and Georgia between 6-8 p.m. on a local radio station that also broadcasts over the Internet.

Love him or hate him, Reid is nothing short of greatness on the football field. He is considered the rarest of prospects, someone who has the potential to improve a college team’s football fortunes from the very moment he arrives on campus. What will Greg Reid do?

The 5-foot-8 Reid had a dominating senior season at Lowndes High. If that wasn’t convincing enough, he played in Georgia’s North-South all-star classic and scored the game’s only two touchdowns on punt returns of 89 and 77 yards. If more proof was needed, Reid won MVP honors with two interceptions in the ESPN-televised Under Armour game, rocketing his Q rating through the roof.

What will Greg Reid do? Let’s give a quick breakdown of the three finalists:

ALABAMA: All Alabama had to do was get Greg on campus, which was quite a task. He was initially supposed to go on Jan. 9, but then switched to Florida State. Greg then agreed to visit Alabama on Jan. 23, but nearly backed out at the last minute for Tennessee. However, once Reid made it to Tuscaloosa, Ala., he said he was impressed with the tough talk and NFL background of Alabama coach Nick Saban.

FLORIDA STATE: Several members of Reid’s family want him to play closer to home, and Tallahassee is only 85 miles away. However; it appears that Greg’s biggest allure to Florida State is an opportunity to compete immediately for a starting position, as the team lacks depth at defensive back.

GEORGIA: There are so many things in favor of the Bulldogs, most notably that Reid told several prospects committed to Georgia that he will be joining them (then again, he could’ve told that to Alabama and FSU players, too). What also helped Georgia with Reid was the enormous positive reaction it generated throughout the South Georgia area when he said he planned to visit the Bulldogs. He likes UGA coach Mark Richt, and thinks he can be a calming influence on his life. Reid also thinks he has a shot at playing early for the Bulldogs.

What will Greg Reid do? What’s your pick? Post below and let’s see if you’re correct.

We will probably be having this dicussion again next year after he preps. Hopefully, for his sake, he will still be a “can’t miss” recruit. 15 minutes could be up for a 5′8″ corner.

Yeh…even after you finally had some good teams (since 1990…and starting your string of victories, you’re still behind in the OVERALL Series (and in SEC AND National Titles)….WOW….need I say more…
and if a history lesson of our program is what you need, I would be more than happy to provide that for you!!!!

I think this guy will be in a Georgia uniform next year if he qualifies. He has already been told that the jersey number 24 will be his when he gets here and the chance to stick it to Florida for at least three years will be very inticing. Can you imiagine he and Branden Smith lock down corners at Georgia for at least three years. They also do ther things like return kicks, something Georgia needs badly.

I met him and talked with him Saturday night during his official visit to Athens. He told me that he would be playing for UGA and he had told the coaches that night.

I understand the concern the GA fans have with UF. If I had their record vs. the Gators, I wouldn’t want to hear from them either.

I think Reid will have trouble qualifying academically to play anywhere this year. He will probably choose FSU in the long run..they are not as deep and when he does get in school he will be able to play sooner.

Hope he chooses UGA but wherever he goes I wish him well. UGA has some great recruits committed and Greg would be an outstanding addition. He and Branden would be the best in the nation as a pair of cover corners. Now if the Tech and Gator trash talkers will just stay off this blog it will be a great day.

He is going to choose the team that he can get on the field as soon as possible. Think he will play with Demps at FSU. But who knows. After reading that he already told several of his good friends who just happen to be UGA prospects that he’s coming to join them in Athens, well that sounds pretty convincing too. So, i just wish him luck where ever he goes.
