Cock 'n' Bull

I don’t care where Farms goes. He can go to Auburn and play for a coach named something like “Cheezit,” or N. Carolina who lost to a S.Carolina team that played only one half of football with a backup QB. And, at UNC he will second fiddle to the Bball team and wear powderpuff blue. That’ll be cute, although they have mixed in dark blue to look more like Duke now.
Well, Cock and Bull, you're named appropiately. The last time South Carolina played North Carolina was in 2008 and they had no quarterback problem. The SEC officials in the first five minutes of the game gave South Carolina a touchdown and stole a touchdown from UNC. I said during the game, after the game and ever since the game that if it were my decision no SEC official would set foot on Kenan Stadium soil again. South Carolina won by seven. Spurrier cried about how lousy his team played after that game. Your record against UNC is 34-17-4. You've lost two for every one you've won, and that's all you've got to brag about.
South Carolina is the graveyard of coaches. So far, Frank McGuire is the only coach to win at a National Championship caliber level there and he couldn't do it after you pulled out of the ACC because of the ACC's rule that an athelete had to score 800 on the SAT and Paul Dietzel couldn't find players that intelligent that would go to South Carolina. An 800 score means you can spell your name and usually find the classroom unassisted.
South Carolina ended the coaching careers of some very good coaches. Hall of Famer McGuire, Eddie Fogler, Paul Deitzel, Dave Odom and Lou Holtz. It remains to be seen if Spurrier will survive. If he doesn't it'll be fitting since a friend of mine who went to Science Hill High in Johnson City Tennessee with him told me that he was, let's say, a jerk (he used an A word) then too.
As for "Carolina Blue", you'd be hard pressed to find any college ball fan in the country that doesn't recognize it. You'd be just as hard pressed to find anyone outside of the southeast who has a clue what South Carolina's colors are. That would be because South Carolina's athletic program is just as pathetic as it's academics.

Does anybody know what the word COMMITMENT means anymore? I have heard there was a time when your word actually meant something. these guys can visit a hundred schools if they want to, heck I would, but once you commit, that should be it. If you want to wait till signing day thats fine, just don't commit!

I visited and applied to several colleges when I was deciding where to go and I wasn't playing football. He has to decide where he feels that he will be the most successful - academically, athletically, and socially. He is doing what all high school seniors should be doing.

The fact that the AJC lists Farms as a "top" recruit is funny. All the major schools (SEC) have passed on him with no regrets.

I know this kid well. He is a straight A student and is well qualified. He is just a kid having to deal with adults who are filling his head with promises. Keep an eye on him, you just might see him playing on Sundays. He is that good!

Columbia and Spurrier have so much in common both well past their prime.. Spurrier without Gator recruiting is average at best.. Columbia is the ugliest College town in the South.. UNC or Auburn will be a much better choice for the kid.. As a fan I hope he goes to an SEC school.. Also Clemson owns Columbia

Michael - I think it is obvious. Johnnie has someone close to him (family or friend) that is trying to influence him to North Carolina. I've heard one particular recruiting analyst that has followed the situation (and has talked to Johnnie several times) say that several times. UNC may be the right school for him. I am not suggesting that at all. What I am saying is that I think you are seeing the evidence that he isn't sure what he wants to do- but whoever is close him is sure.

He;s doing what most adults do when they look for a job. keep scouting for the best deal, the best opportunity based on his criteria, not people who never met the young man. And for those of you who think he is playing the sdhools- Alabama seems to have played him a bit too. Everyone is looking for the best match. Just because he is younf and full of promise and opportunity, dont bash him. The comment about his grades is quite perplexing, as I doubt that person is privy to his graqdes, test scores, or other criteria used in assessing scholastic aptitude. Every just think if you had 10 employers or 10 law schools vying for your talents and they all had the same deicion date, wouldnt you seek out the best opportunity? I wish him well,

When will these kids who play games with these colleges realize that life does not revolve around them? The sad part is many of these kids do not learn the world does not revolve around them until it is too late. that is when their eligibility is used up and then they have nothing such as in no degree and no job. I realize it goes both ways yet maybe if kids actually stuck to their decisions the recruiters would not resort to the tactics they do.

Right Deb, WHO REALLY CARES! My first impression is that he has NO honor, changing commitments like changing the oil in your car. I wouldn't touch him... Sounds like he has an ego problem. I could be wrong and I really hope I am wrong, but when you give your word, that should be your word! The fact that he is a kid is NO EXCUSE for your word meaning nothing!

If he goes to SC, the most he can hope for is MAYBE an 8 win season (they only have five in their 116 year football history). The best the Gamecocks have ever achieved is mediocre. Good luck to Farms, wherever he goes.

Signing day isn't till Wednesday and he is free to chose whoever he wants for whatever reason he wants. Whereever he does go, he is going to have to work his butt off waking up at 5am to lift weights and run before going to class. I say good luck to you Johnnie Farms and don't take any lip from a redonkulous sportswriter. I am a SEC fan but Farms is actually correct, UNC DOES have an excellent academic reputation...the only school in the SEC that is better is Vandy. It takes a lot of courage for a 18 year old kid to stick to his guns and tell that to Steve Spurrier....and what would you reccomend your 18 year old son base his decision on?

Nice, Cock. Call a high school kid a loser because he doesn't want to come to your school. He's a kid. Cut him some slack.

Anyone that commits, then de-commits, then sets up an official visit with a third school (UCF), then cancels the visit with that school obviously has some issues. I would be wary of signing this kid regardless of how many stars he has on Rivals.

They play football at South Carolina? or UNC? nice. that is news to me. As to UNC being loaded? are we referring to blood alcohol content? Certainly not football talent! ha.
