Pick 8: Patio Dining Near the Dogwood Festival

Two Urban Licks patio

Two Urban Licks patio

The quintessential welcoming of warm weather at Piedmont Park happens this weekend at the 78th Annual Dogwood Festival. Crowds will flock to the park to wander amidst shaded flowering dogwoods, revel at fine art from national vendors, and listen to the sounds of local music. We mapped out a few outdoor patios for alfresco dining before or after the festival.

NEAR: 0 miles

Park Tavern
500 10th Street, Atlanta
The sun-drenched patio is so close, you can reach out and touch the grass in the lower meadow. Ideal for sipping cool brews (they craft a few of their own). Plan to stay a while because prime location means big crowds.

0.2 miles

931 Monroe Drive, Atlanta
The humble, pet-friendly patio and counter service make this the perfect choice to satisfy your hunger right when it hits. This healthy gem always has an array of colorful salads, grilled chicken and hot or cold soups. They’re easily portable if you’d rather take them to the park for a picnic.

0.5 miles

187 10th Street NE, Atlanta
Wander towards Midtown for the refreshing sip of a margarita and Mexican fare. Come for the $29 bottomless brunch from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and be sure to order guacamole, mashed tableside. The casual atmosphere is perfect to kick back and relax after a day of festival wandering.

1.3 miles

Two Urban Licks
820 Ralph McGill Boulevard, Atlanta
This prime Beltline destination gives the illusion of an urban warehouse, complete with floating chandeliers and an open kitchen. The paneled patio doors open to overlook a view of Atlanta’s skyline. Wood-fired meats are the staples on this menu, but salmon chips are always a great pick to start.

1.6 miles

Inman Park
You’ll have to hike further down the Beltline, but upon arrival on North Highland’s strip (right after Freedom Parkway) is a pick of international culinary fare. Barcelona Wine Bar hums with energy and the prime spot is the tables by the outdoor fireplace. Sip on coffee or light lunch at the woefully underrated Market at Parish, where open air flows from the patio through the comfortable basement outpost. Fritti’s garage-style doors expose the restaurant to fresh air without having the sun beating down on you. The Napoleon-style funghi di Bosco pizza glimmers with mozzarella and earthy mushrooms.

FAR: 3.6 miles

FLIP Burger
664 N. Highland Avenue, Atlanta
The edgy rooftop bar is finally open, attracting the hip crowd of Virginia-Highlands to sip on patio cocktails and chomp on innovative burgers. The tuna tartare with compressed veggies or steak tartare with a fried egg are both quietly inventive picks.

We actually have the dogwoods in full bloom this year for the festival. It should be beautiful. Everyone have a great time.

Ahhhh Choo! take your allergy medicine.
Going to be nice to get out and about, but the watery eyes and sneezing from the pollen, make me want to stay in.

My wife’s friend fell from the rooftop patio at Flip last night.
She was seriously injured and is having another surgery this afternoon at Atlanta Medical Center.
Please pray for Charlotte Cantor.

Regarding the reported incident at the Poncey-Highland location of FLIP Burger Boutique, I have spoken with management and most employees who were working at the restaurant yesterday, and by all accounts no one was injured at that location.
Management is unaware of any incident involving any person, employee, guest or otherwise, falling from the rooftop patio.
The previous statement suggesting otherwise is either factually mistaken or a complete hoax.

@Barry Mills, just call Atlanta Medical Center and ask for the updated condition on Charlotte Cantor. That should solve the mystery.
