Tantra Restaurant and Bar, a grandiose and unusual Buckhead restaurant that opened in late 2010 in a prime location on Peachtree Road, has a new owner and will be debuting a new concept in late April.
The new owner is Laurend Abraham of Paris Restaurant Management and Consulting Group. Abraham’s resume includes general manager stints at Tantra, Divan, Paces 88 and fine wine sales with Big Boat Wine Company.
Vin Vie Bistro is the name of the concept that Abraham will be bringing to the Tantra space, which will remain open for a few weeks, before remodeling begins, and the new restaurant is finally unveiled.
“We will be redesigning and remodeling the restaurant to give it a really nice look,” Abraham said. “It will be a little brighter than Tantra, and the patio will open up with more glass doors.”
As for the new menu, look for a “casual, French twist on a classic steakhouse,” where guests can expect to see everything from escargots to prime cuts of meat.
“It will be a French bistro that has more meat on the menu,” Abraham said. “It will have more options, as well as composed seafood dishes and, of course, French classics.”
Abraham will oversee an extensive wine list and act as in-house sommelier.
If your didn’t have the pleasure of dining at Tantra in its heyday, you might want to click back to John Kessler’s spoofing account, A visit to Tantra (finally!), which declares, “if you’re going to name your establishment Tantra, it suggests a booty call, right? Or, at the very least, an expensive session with a specialist.”
Have you been to Tantra? Going to try to hit it before it quits it?
