The best Valentine’s Day chocolates in Atlanta?

Chocolaterie-300x200

These days, drugstore chocolate box mainstays like the Whitman’s Sampler or the Russell Stover red foil heart seem a little less than exciting as Valentine’s Day treats. Especially with local artisan chocolate makers, like Cacao in Atlanta and the Chocolaterie in Cumming, producing bean-to-bar and hand-painted delicacies.

In fact, this year, if you want to give your Valentine a really sweet adventure, Cacao is offering chocolate workshops where you can spend some time making candy  with your loved one.

It marks the first time since moving to its new chocolate factory that Cacao is opening the doors and inviting visitors to come experience its Willy Wonka-like world first hand. Spaces are limited, so you’ll need to grab a reservation at CacaoAtlanta.com, where you can find details on different workshops for kids and adults.

Will chocolates be a big part of your Valentine’s Day? Where are the best Atlanta chocolateries right now?

The absolute best chocolates with fun and provocative flavors are MChocolat. They have an AMAZING assortment of fillings, designs and packages. I love them.

Love Cacao.

Aaron Russell, Restaurant Eugene’s James Beard Award nominated pastry chef, is making his signature bonbons to order through H&F Bread Co. at hfbreadco.com

If flavors like Luxardo Cherry White Chocolate and Rose Hip Milk Chocolate aren’t enticing enough, they’re striking visually as well.

Verrry disappointed with Cacao–I bought presents of mixed truffles, peanut butter cups, etc. for 3-4 peeps this Xmas and they all separately told me how mediocre the chocolate was. I tasted it and was also underwhelmed. It’s fairly pricey (about $2.50/3 per truffle) and the flavors were muted.

We actually enjoyed Chocolate South more–my wife got a sampler as a gift and they were very interesting flavors. Maybe 1 or 2 “mehs” out of the 10 we got–overall, very tasty.

M Chocolat has the freshest chocolate-dipped strawberries I’ve ever had. Their chocolates are handmade with natural ingredients that give them a bold, rich flavor. They are definitely my favorite chocolate shop in Atlanta by far!

The Chocolaterie in Cumming is my go to place. They make the best truffles I have ever eaten.

Maison Robert by far the best. They also make without a doubt the best bread in town. I think they also have chocolate making classes, that could make a great Valentines gift.

I’m a chocolate snob, I have tasted the best from European shops, which sets a high standard. Cacao has met that standard with aplomb. The truffles are some of the best in the world, you rarely find this quality outside of Paris or Brussels. I’m intrigued by the offerings from H&F Bread, I’ll have to give them a try.
