A Different Approach to Valentine’s Day

fairygodmother.0207Valentine’s Day is a big day not just for romantic couples, but for the restaurants too. It is estimated that more than a quarter of American adults will dine out, making this day one of the busiest days in the kitchen besides Mother’s Day. And this year it is on a Friday night.

How are you going to spend your Valentine’s Day? Many Atlanta restaurants have been trying to figure out just how to win their diner’s hearts and their reservation.  They’ve thrown out the prix fixe menu in favor of these alternatives.

If you want just desserts: Indulge in an “off menu” dessert experience at Osteria Mattone. Six dessert courses will be served in the restaurant’s intimate wine cellar. The reservations are first come, first serve and available Thursday February 13 to Saturday February 15 at either 7:45 p.m. or 9:30 p.m. Email information@osteriamattone.com.

If you want to win together: Old Vinings Inn is looking for the couple with the most romantic proposal story. Submit your photo and story on Facebook by February 13. Winners of the $100 gift card are announced on Friday.

If you want to learn together: GARDEN owner Matthew Klyn is teaching you how to create and maintain your own terrarium while you get to sip on wine, cocktails and enjoy light bites. The class is $100 per person.

If you want to stay at home: Star Provisions is bringing Anne Quatrano’s cuisine into the comfort of your living room. A four-course meal to-go is $150 and includes savory tastings like a thyme crusted beef tenderloin and a Hudson Valley Camembert heart. Make sure to place your order by 5 p.m. on Wednesday February 12.

If you are anti-Valentine’s Day: Meehan’s Public House in Vinings is waiting until February 15 to celebrate that the day is over with a “Rods and Rulers” party. Upon arrival, girls get a ruler marked at a certain length and guys get a rod of a certain length. The challenge is to find your match.
