Waitress’ Claims that Family Denied her a Tip May Be a Hoax

Sometimes calling someone by the wrong name can really put you on their bad side.

Remember the story about the Boston waitress who said a family did not tip her and left a hateful note on the receipt because of her gay lifestyle? It may have been a hoax.

After Dayna Morales, a waitress at Gallop Asian Bistro, posted claims on Facebook that a family she served called her Dan and refused to tip her, she received $10,000 in donations from around world and press went viral. An ex-Marine, she said she planned to donate the money to Wounded Warriors Project.

The family in question recently found out the receipt was theirs- and brought forward their copy. The side-by-side comparison shows that they tipped $18.00 and left no message. The husband claims Morales wrote it up.

So the question is- what was she after? Didn’t she see the bad press coming from the pastor tipping story months earlier? Who do you believe?

Innocent until proven guilty—Interested to see Ms. Morales’ comments after another copy of the receipt surfaced. Either way I hope the deserving vets at Wounded Warriors are the real winners. Newspapers and media outlets should donate to this fine organization since they profited from reporting this as a fait accompli’ rather than an alleged incident. Semper Fi!

How is their customer copy proof? Couldn’t they have just written in those numbers after the story went viral?

Its funny, the fives(.55) on both receipts look eerily similar. It looks like the customers tried to fill in the customer copy later to avoid the drama, but who knows for sure.

Simply another mundane news report by mundane news outlets posting a story that they do not verify….No more actual reporting, coping AP stories etc.

just remember, everything you read on the internet is true..Abraham Lincoln

@mike, @just me, The family in question also produced the Visa statement showing the $111.55 charge. Proves that they did tip and if the did tip then this chick is nothing more than a liar!

A janitor at my school alleged that a hispanic man had assaulted her. She got thousands of dollars in pity money, her new truck paid off, etc, but investigation showed she had made it up.

There are mentally ill people seeking to profit off the pity/outrage of others.

She should be fired. Most gay people understand, but there are a few that don’t: no one cares about your ‘lifestyle’. Most people see ‘gay’ as a behavior that should take place behind closed doors. The ‘breeders’ have no interest in watching you engage in gayness.

All of these no tip and ugly note deals sounds a bit odd to me. A tip is not a given it is a bonus for good service. I think people who send these “wronged” wait staff money are crazy there are plenty of legit agencies to send donations.n

Ned Ludd……..Every time I see the Wounded Warriors name in print, I think of only one thing. How that dirt bag Al Roaker of the Today Show tried to scam the WW program for his benifit. The most hated man on TV and he deserves every stone that gets thrown at him. It took some doing to jump ahead of Matt Lauer for that title but he is now #1.

Agreed Balt—let us hope that even self serving negative publicity from ratings desperate celebs serves to benefit the brave men and women who sacrifice so much to keep us free.
