New Beltline Addition to Kevin Rathbun Steak

Here’s the artist’s rendering (above) and the word on the new addition from Cliff Bramble, co-owner of Rathbun’s, Krog Bar, Kevin Rathbun Steak and KR SteakBar:

Work starts this week on the new addition to Kevin Rathbun Steak.  The Beltline Patio (which is within feet of the Atlanta Beltline) received City approval to cover their 926 square foot outdoor space.  Watch for a structure of steel beams with radiant heaters, a twelve foot high wood-burning brick fireplace, (Beltline facing) along with dimly lit interior.  There will also be several stand up tables for enjoying a cocktail. The construction should be completed by the end of the year.

What do you think? Is the Rathbun Steak patio cover another good addition to the Beltline building boom?

I wish they would allow you to have your pup on the patio. Or maybe have it be a little less formal out there. Every time I pass by it’s a bunch of people in suits. It doesn’t really make me want to stop after I’ve walked to Piedmont and back.

I think it’s a terrific idea.
I trust these guys to make a classy addition to their already outstanding work in O4W.
Atlanta is lucky to have guys like Kevin and Cliff in town.
When Kevin struck out on his own he really took a gamble with the location of Rathbun’s.
At the time, the only thing in the neighborhood was a fledgling art space at Studioplex.
A bold nouveau Southern restaurant called Virginia’s survived less than two years in the space Kevin took over.
Since Rathbun’s opened, the entire Krog Street corridor has been revitalized with shops, restaurants, galleries and live/work space. The recent success of shops and pubs along Edgewood and Highland Avenues in O4W may not have occurred (as soon as it did) without Kevin’s and Cliff’s foresight.
Not to be overly political, but Atlantans need to be proud and thankful for guys like Kevin and Cliff who are unafraid to take chances and do the heavy lifting required to make Atlanta great.
A lot of us are confused and disappointed by the recent news about the Braves’ decision to abandon their attempts at promoting positive change in and around the area of Turner Field.
When times get tough you learn who your friends truly are, and as an adopted son of Atlanta, I can say for certain that Kevin and Cliff are truly friends of the city.

Sorry Stephie, but no one wants to pay $48.00 for prime cuts while they’re stepping in your Pomeranian’s business.
Next time you walk by and see us on the patio in our suits, just smile and keep walking.
When you get to Barcelona order a $12.00 glass of table wine and a $10.00 side of canned vegetables. You know you that’s what you’re gonna do anyway.
If you really want to comingle dining with nature, try the patio at Floataway Café. It’s right on the tracks and there are enough stray cats there to fill a dumpster.

stephie……..come on, you want to shut them down before they open? Nobody wants to eat w/ another persons dog at the next table. Could you only be thinking about yourself here? Hummm!

WOW – you all are brutal! There are County ordinances that prohibit animals in dining establishments and that includes on the patio, unless they are Guide or Assistance dogs. That said, I do think it would be lovely to have a few places along the BeltLine where dogs and their owners can sit and enjoy a refreshment under a fresh air canopy.
As for Rathbun’s outdoor seating – it looks wonderful and I hope to be enjoying in the spring.

Dogs enjoy ‘refreshments’ wherever other dogs cr@p. They could care less about the surroundings. That’s all for the owners.

Kevin’s accomplishments have enriched the lives of intown Atlantans for years. I can’t wait to have a wine with friends by the fire.

Does anyone else think this place is highly overrated? I was not impressed with my steak at all. And it’s heinously expensive!

Wow, “cautiously optimistic” writes in the same small, stupid paragraphs as Ford Fry! That’s amazing. Why didn’t you leave your name on that little piece of artwork, douche?

We get your not-so-subtle message, Ford.
Why can’t the Braves be more like Kevin Rathbun?
The truth is the Braves will be much better off in Cobb.
There are a lot more buffet restaurants in Cobb than there are in-town.
Have you ever noticed all the morbidly obese fans at the games?
It’s always some ginger family eating cotton candy and drinking Cokes, or a 20-something couple with six chins between them. The guy usually has on an Under Armor sleeveless shirt (because he’s obviously coming from or going to an event that requires fitness), and the girl just looks like she is so happy to be out of school and focused on her full time job of turning into her big fat mom.
Let’s face it: these guys need their Golden Corral. And the City of Atlanta just couldn’t deliver.
How can anybody be expected to eat 3,000 calories and then get in their car and drive all the way from Kennesaw to downtown Atlanta without falling asleep? It’s nearly impossible.
I, for one, am happy for the Braves and all the people in Cobb County with nothing better to do than eat at Ryan’s Steakhouse and go to the Braves game.
Go Braves!

Marsh’s only friend…….Well, you managed to get in about every type of person @ 12:22 but bigots. Not wait, you are the bigot, sorry. All groups covered now. Try not to say those things in person to someone, we would all hate to lose you. Only cowards have that type of thought process. Run little girl, run! lol

Yep. Guilty as charged. Superbigoted. Scared and angry.
Luckily I’m the only person in all of Atlanta who carries any animus.
I’m nothing like all the good Christian folks posting comments about the Braves’ move with words like “ghetto,” “thugs,” and “bums.” Those people are all caring and sensitive and courageous.
Obviously I look up to them as much as you do, and I realize they were making light-hearted jokes.
Unfortunately, everything I say is hate speech, by design, and I couldn’t tell you the meaning of the word satire if my life depended on it.
I’m just a big chicken. Even if I weren’t afraid to speak up about social issues in real life, I still wouldn’t do it because it is impolite.
Anyway, good luck with your diabetes, loser.

The Rathbun’s team has done a great job down there and any expansion will be a plus. As an out of towner it is hard to figure why a 17 yr old stadium is no longer serviceable.

Marsh’s only—your comments betray your true identity. You say you are a big chicken, I propose that you are actually The Big Chicken! How many years did your big beak flop up and down saying nothing? Thanks for finally putting it in writing.

The patio sounds like a lovely place and will be a nice addition to the neighborhood. Sorry Stephie, but Rathbun Steak isn’t a place conducive to having pets or sweaty joggers mingling. You see those people in the suits and nice dresses? They’re dressed appropriately for the venue. Your shorts and sweaty tshirt belong someplace a bit more casual. I’m all for having great places along the beltline, and I like someplace casual to stop at when I’ve been walking or biking. But, I’m not going to expect to sit in a higher-end establishment where $70-100/person meals are the norm.

This is gonna be great!
I’m really excited to add this one to my itinerary on the Beltline BarCrawl.
These guys always do an excellent job with an extensive list of quality California (and a few Washington Pinots) wines, and the food is delicious.
I have been a huge fan of Kevin since my first bite of the rabbit tortilla at Nava.
That must have been nearly 20 years ago now. Time sure flies. That’s okay, though, because life just gets better with age. I have absolutely no latent anxiety regarding issues beyond my control.
Rathbun Steak PatioBar on the Beltline, here I come.
This is gonna be great!
