Fall 2013 Dining Guide: What’s your favorite dining neighborhood?

Westside dining options (photo by Becky Stein)

Westside dining options (photo by Becky Stein)

Sometimes dinner begins with a hard-earned reservation. Or a drive across town to a specific address plugged into your GPS. Or a 90-minute wait in a crowded reception area waiting to hear your name over a loudspeaker.

But sometimes dinner begins with a stroll. Your destination isn’t the specific restaurant, but rather a neighborhood filled with options.

In recent years, many of the metro area’s town squares, thoroughfares, shopping malls and planned communities have developed into full-on dining neighborhoods. Drinks, dinner and dessert don’t all have to be in the same place. Discoveries abound, waiting to be made.

What are your favorite dining neighborhoods? Please let us know here. If you’re feeling fancy, please upload a photo to Instagram or Twitter and tag it #ajcwheretoeat.

We’ll tell you ours on Friday, when our Fall Dining Guide drops. Thanks!

The Westside until 2014 when Krog Street Market and Ponce City Market open then it’ll be Inman-Park – Poncey Highlands – great thinks happening on that side of town.

Decatur
Followed by the west side, Inman Park and Roswell ( canton St )
Agree O4w is great too. Edgewood construction has been a deterrent but hope to check out more soon.

I am pretty sure Decatur is going to win this one! Brookhaven has some good eats, too. I don’t go out in Midtown/West Midtown too often because i work there and am just ready to get the hell out of dodge.

If any chefs/restaurteurs see this, it’d be great to have a good restaurant in the Chamblee Tucker Road area in unincorporated DeKalb near Henderson High, etc. We have nothing except a few small operations – El Matador for Mexican, the Mediterranean place and Heart of India. You can drive to Tucker for a pretty good gyro. I was excited to have Three Dollar Cafe open when it did, but it sucks. and there is a nice large empty building in the same complex just waiting to be occupied…

I don’t mind losing out to Decatur, because seriously. Decatur. But if Historic Roswell doesn’t get an honorable mention, ya’ll don’t know food.

For a cheap adventure or expensive culinary experience, there’s still a lot on Buford highway.

Taco/Pambazo crawl in Fiesta Plaza, set-priced banquets at the stone house, dumplings from around the world, etc. Go Chinese Buddhist for vegan food or eat half a cow at one of the Latin American stops. Just at Lee’s bakery, there’s a vast demographic popping in for the bread.

Buford Highway Mkt still has the overwhelming produce section in Atl, meat and seafood you rarely see at other ethnic mega groceries, and now they have a cafe.

Though not on the scale of Decatur, folks who live within walking distance of the Marietta Square have a lot of great options nowadays.

There are so many good qualities about several neighborhoods. South Buckhead as mentioned (Watershed, Saltyard, Holeman&Finch, Cafe Sunflower, Sufi’s, 1Kept, R.Thomas) is closest to me, but I do enjoy venturing to West Midtown, Decatur, out Buford Hwy.
