Salt Factory Alpharetta Delayed, and more newsy bits

After a series of delays, restaurateurs Hicham Azhari and Fikret Kovac of F&H Food Trading Group and culinary director Bob McDonough were set to debut their fourth venture together on Oct. 14 with the second location of the Salt Factory Pub in historic downtown Alpharetta. But now it seems the opening has been delayed, again, with no word on a new date. The other three F&H restaurants, all on Canton Street in historic downtown Roswell, include Opulent, Little Alley Steak and the original Salt Factory Pub.

Renovated Taco Mac reopens in Decatur

Taco Mac in Decatur, which closed for renovations on Aug. 4, reopened this week with a swanky new look. Taco Mac CEO Bob Campbell said that after 12 years, it was time for a refresh and redo. That job fell to Atlanta’s ai3 Inc., the company behind the design of fine dining spots such as Miller Union, 4th & Swift and Holeman & Finch. Look for a new patio along Ponce de Leon Avenue, an expanded bar area with 100 draft taps, new, more comfortable seating, and upgraded LED HDTVs throughout the restaurant and bar. 240 W. Ponce De Leon Ave., Decatur. 404-378-4140,

Union Hill Kitchen opens in Chamblee

Chef Alexis Hernandez, a former contestant on “The Next Food Network Star,” has softly opened Union Hill Kitchen in Chamblee. The restaurant is open only for lunch, so far, and the website is still under construction, but it contains this explanation of the concept: “a celebration of New American Cuisine thoughtfully prepared, often playfully interpreted.” Early online reports say service is fast casual at lunch, with sandwiches such as egg salad and grilled chicken on the menu. 5336 Peachtree Road, Chamblee. 770-458-6252,

I hope the TM in Decatur revamped the service as well. I had to stop going because the service was so poor and the beer was ALWAYS under carbonated…..That’s of they had what I ordered. Many times I would have to make a second, third and fourth choice after my original selection was unavailable.

Great Meal!

A group of us went to Union Hill Kitchen for lunch. The food was really good, especially, any dish with the hickory grilled, citrus marinated pork. It comes in a burrito, a sandwhich or as a plate with sides. It was delisious! I can’t wait for dinner, full service (right now, at lunch, you order at the counter and they bring you the food), and the bar to open. There’s not much in Chamblee, so this will be a great addition to the neighborhood.

Nice job, Taco Mac. Now it’s time to add Smyrna/Vinings/Smynings to the stable. Hasn’t been the same since you closed the E/W Connector one 2 years ago.
