Three Taverns Tasting Room Opens Tonight

Three Taverns bar

Last night, Brian Purcell, the founder and president of Three Taverns in Decatur, stood in the loft above the bar in his brewery’s new tasting room and asked the crowd assembled below to send good thoughts across the Atlantic to Joran Van Ginderachter.

Van Ginderachter is the young man Purcell hopes will soon be moving from Belgium to Atlanta to become Three Taverns’ head brewer — maybe even in time to toast with the Belgian-style spiced Christmas beer Van Ginderachter designed.

Three Taverns tasting room opens to the public for the first time tonight, though the Grand Opening tickets may be sold out.

At Thursday’s sneak peek, four beers were on tap: Single Intent Belgian-style single ale; A Night In Brussels IPA Belgian-style American IPA; Theophan the Recluse Russian imperial stout; and Decatur Ryeson, a special collaboration with nearby Twain’s brewpub.

Like the rest of the $1.9 million brewery in East Decatur Station, the tasting room reflects Purcell’s vision of old world craftsmanship. Brick walls, roughhewn timbers, and vintage light fixtures give the space the feel of an ancient European beer bar.

But during a brewery tour, Purcell seemed happiest showing off his shiny new bottling line.

Tasting Room Grand Opening tickets on sale: Oct. 11, 5:30-7:30 p.m.; Oct. 12, 4-6 p.m.

Tickets at: threetavernsbrewery.brownpapertickets.com.

Three Taverns, 125 East Court Square, Decatur, 404-687-0990, threetavernsbrewery.com.

One good fart will clear that tavern. Poor ventilation.

Time to jump this design shark.
“Brick walls, roughhewn timbers, and vintage light fixtures…” maybe a farm table too.
somebody please bring back the faux tiffany, brass & fern look of the 70’s, 80’s…

Gee whiz, fellas. Do you go for the taste of the beer and some unpretentious fellowship and good times, or do you go for the fakeness and plastic-feeling of elevating your status in your own mind (which nobody else will care to recognize 5 minutes after you leave)?
