Distiller Troy Ball at The Barrel Bar

On Tuesday, get to the The Barrel Bar at Food 101 for a meet-and-great with Troy Ball of Troy & Sons Distillery in Asheville, N.C., famous for the likes of Blonde Whiskey. In case you didn’t know, Troy is a she and one of the few woman distillers on the scene today. Atlanta Eats Goes Live at Verizon

Atlanta Eats, the weekly restaurant roundup TV show hosted by Steak Shapiro, will take the stage at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Alpharetta on October 6 for a “rockstar” program and benefit for Staplehouse and The Giving Kitchen. Atlanta chefs Kevin Rathbun and Linton Hopkins will be honored during an evening featuring food and drink from 30 Atlanta restaurants, including  Hal’s, Rathbun’s, The Optimist, 4th & Swift and Watershed, chefs dueling in demos and karaoke contests, and live music. Atlanta Cheese Festival at Park Tavern

The inaugural Atlanta Cheese Festival sponsored by Gourmet Foods International takes off on Friday, October 11, from 5 to 11 p.m. at Park Tavern in Piedmont Park. Among the evening’s festivities: a Grilled Cheese Meltdown competition; a cheese market where attendees can taste samples and purchase items directly from the producers; live music from The Packway Handle Bar and Moreland & Arbuckle. VIP ticket holders get a special beer and cheese pairing seminar. Tickets: $35; $50 VIP with proceeds going to the Giving Kitchen. atlantacheesefestival.com.

Taste of Atlanta Turns 12

In its 12th year, Taste of Atlanta has grown into an iconic local event. On October 25, it kicks off with Atlanta’s Taste Revival, a music and barbecue block party with Ron Eyester and guest chefs, including Ford Fry, Kevin Gillespie and Kevin Rathbun. Then, more than 90 Atlanta restaurants will offer samples at the weekend festiva,l October 26-27. Atlanta’s Taste Revival tickets: $70-$150. Festival tickets, $30-$85. No mention of the Greek Festivalthis weekend? True, it’s not a haute cusine event but it’s been a popular one for years.

I mean, they’ve got a drive-through for heaven’s sake.

The Great Miller Lite Chili Cook-off is this weekend, October 4-5, at the The Georgia International Horse Park, 1996 Centennial Olympic Pkwy, Conyers, Georgia 30013.
