Sun Dried Restaurant & Lounge opened for dinner on Tuesday and will be open for lunch and dinner today.

Located on Sandy Plains Road in East Cobb, the restaurant’s mission is to serve “World Cuisine” with “local seasonal produce and regional ingredients,” according to Cameroon-born chef/owner Alain Njike, who recently relocated to Atlanta from Chicago.

Njike’s fine dining background includes stints at Charlie Trotter’s, the Peninsula Hotel, NoMI and Park 52. In late 2012, Njike partnered with the Chicago Bears’ Israel Idonije to open Alain’s — an African-inspired American restaurant in Chicago’s South Loop, which closed its doors after only a few months in business.

What can we expect regarding prices? It looks like they’re still working on the website.

The reporter should have contacted the people in Chicago to confirm what was written. You should be asking why the sudden relocation to Marietta when he has such a history in Chicago. I am live in Chicago BUT born & raised in Mtta.

Good point, Speck. Trust but verify. Hope Bob will give you an answer.

Njike did not tell me about Alain’s. I ferreted that out from news reports.

The fact that Njike partnered with Idonije to open Alain’s was widely reported in Chicago, as was the sudden closing. There was a report of a soft opening but it’s not clear to me exactly what happened next. I’ve been advised that it is a ‘legal matter.’

I thought it was important to include the Alain’s history in this quick post. I assumed it might prompt some reaction. I will update and correct if there is more information.

Here’s a link to a post on EATER from 2012:

I am so glad this restaurant opened in Marietta. The owners are nice and friendly. I really enjoyed the blackened African style fish with corn, it was amazing! Looking forward to seeing more from this talented chef. Wouldn’t be surprised if those young men bring one of the best food in town.
