David Sweeney Out At Cakes & Ale

Chef David Sweeney confirmed today that he’s no longer working at Cakes & Ale.

“I’ve described my departure from employment with Cakes & Ale as peaceable,” Sweeney said.

Sweeney didn’t care to elaborate. But it’s been suggested that things hadn’t been going as well as planned since he initiated a dinner small plate menu Wednesdays through Saturdays at the Bakery at Cakes and Ale.

Sweeney had been in charge of  lunchtime offerings at the bakery since Cakes & Ale chef/owner Billy Allin and his wife, Kristin, moved the restaurant to its new Decatur location in 2011.

At his now defunct Atlanta restaurant, Dynamic Dish, Sweeney was known for cooking with local produce from season to season throughout the year, finding creative uses for almost anything that Georgia farmers were growing.

On Sundays, you can still find Sweeney at the Grant Park Octane Coffee, where he presents a weekly menu of  farmer-friendly “Fresh Market Bites.”

Putting politics and personalities aside David should be put on a pedestal. Atlanta is on the low rungs of true hi caliber vegetarian restaurant options. Its actually a joke that we have almost zero options for veggies. David is very passionate and is just so creative with this cuisine. In LA, South Beach or NYC he would be rock. Let’s pray that he reopens Dynamic Dish in a great in your face location accessible to everyone every day.

I meant to say “In LA, South Beach or NYC he would be rock star”
