Breakfast out? Try Bantam & Biddy

Bantam & Biddy's chilaquiles

Bantam & Biddy's chilaquiles

Where do you go for breakfast out? I’m not talking drive-thru fare. I’m talking about that good, hearty, full breakfast your grandmother always tried to feed you.

I’m always looking for spots that have dishes with a little more pizzaz than a plate of eggs, bacon and potatoes or the you-name-it-topped sugary french toast. I’m looking for items like chilaquiles, which can be found at a few restaurants in town.

Bantam & Biddy offers a nice rendition of this dish on the weekends. A large bowl comes filled to the brim with softened but still the tiniest bit crunchy salsa-coated Los Amigos tortillas. A sunny-side-up egg and soft avocado slices join the fiesta, as does my addition of Bantam & Biddy chicken. Add a quick squeeze of lime and you’re set.

Next time, I may try the breakfast burger, a pork sausage patty topped with pimento cheese and a fried egg on jalapeno-cheddar bread. And where else can you have poutine for breakfast?

Next time you’re looking for a spot to have breakfast out, consider Bantam & Biddy. In the meantime, share your breakfast eats with us.

What is that propping up the tortillas to make them reach the brim of the bowl? Cabbage? Or cheese?

I’m a sucker for corned beef hash and I’m always trying to find it when I’m traveling. I haven’t had much luck locally. I’m also one of those weird folks who thinks a good spicy Pho soup makes for a great breakfast.

I too am a sucker for corned beef hash. I on the other hand look for goetta on the menu. So far have only found it in S Ky and SE Ohio. It is a pain in the butt to make. We make the effort every Christmas because the whole family helps. If they don’t help they don’t get any goetta. Tough crowd!

my dad had corned beef hash at Twain’s in Decatur’s brunch several months ago and loved it.

You never see SOS on breakfast menus. Though you should; it’s very good if made with care. And reminds me of my dad. Anyone seen it out anywhere?

Philistine checking in here. Farm fresh, local, grass fed yadda yadda – but $10 for a sausage and egg sandwich? Yeah. No.

I realized I’m a few days late here, but I can’t believe the amount of free publicity this restaurant has received from the AJC. This must be the 3rd or 4th article. Reminds me of Leon’s in Decatur. That restaurant also had all kinds of free advertising.

I haven’t tried Bantam for breakfast, although I do eat lunch there often. I really like their chicken. But for breakfast you must try MetroFresh. They are just down the road on Monroe. Try their smoked gouda grits and eggs. Their staff is great if you have any food allergies.
