IPA Day and 25 Best Craft Breweries

IPAday-main-300x400

Lovers of hoppy beer will note that Thursday, August 1 is IPA Day.

Founded in 2011, by the Colorado-based Brewers Association to “unite craft beer enthusiasts, bloggers and brewers worldwide, using social media as the common arena for connecting the conversation.,” it claims not to “serve any particular beer brand.”

Here in Atlanta, there are at least two breweries celebrating IPA Day:

August 1, IPA Day, SweetWater Brewing Co. — IPA inspired casks, hop-induced brews from the cellar, and food. $10 includes souvenir tasting glass, tasting tickets, and brewery tour. sweetwaterbrew.com

August 1, 3, 5  – IPA Week, Monday Night Brewing — Each public tour day they will be tap a cask of  Eye Patch Ale. $10 includes souvenir tasting glass, tasting tickets, and brewery tour.  mondaynightbrewing.com

Sweetwater and Monday Night missed out on the final ranking of the 25 Best Craft Breweries in America, posted on Tuesday by The Daily Meal.

In fact, Tampa’s Cigar City (ranked at No. 5, below Founders, Boulevard,
Stone, and No. 1 Dogfish Head) was the only Southern brewery on the list.

Unless, of course, we can claim those new Sierra Nevada, New Belgium and Oskar Blues breweries open or opening in North Carolina.

If you dare, see the complete The Daily Meal rankings here: www.thedailymeal.com/25-best-craft-breweries-america

Are you celebrating IPA Day?

What do you think of The Daily Meal rankings?

Dogfish Head is ridiculously overrated as is Cigar City. Stone, Founders and Boulevard are definitely Top 5 material.

Bogus BS…voting options for South did not include Sweetwater… obviously like yelp someone has to pay for something at DailyMeal site to get favorable ranking…anyone who believes otherwise is very nieve

Agreed, Matt.

2 VT breweries should certainly be in the the top 5.

The Alchemist — Heady Topper the long time (and still) number one rated beer in the world according to beer advocate. It is certainly the best beer I’ve had.

Lawsons Finest Liquids – 10 or so beers in the top 200 in the world according to beer advocate. I’ve tried several of Lawson’s beers and all are superior to anything Dogfish has ever put out.

The Wrecking Bar (292 Moreland Ave NE Atlanta, GA 30307) is going to have five different IPAs on draft today in honor of IPA day.

Victor IPA – English malts and body with American hops
Ryzealand IPA – West coast American body with single hop being Nelson Sauvin
Hoppy Hobbit Session IPA – 4% “IPA” finished with New Zealand hops
Denamelizer IIPA – 10.5% ABV with lots of malt and complexity to back up 140 IBUs
Cask Victor IPA with El Dorado hops

I think Hill Farmstead has to be somewhere near the top as well.

#1 IPA in America is——- HEADY TOPPER from THE ALCHEMIST BREWERY in Waterbury, VT.
John Kimmich is a legend in his own time for the incredible attention to detail when it comes to brewing, imho, the best IPA. It has the most brilliant aroma and and the body and balance of tight rope walker. The downfall: it is only available in VT.
#2 would be Wormtown Brewery’s Be Hoppy which is best from the cask if you can get it.
And many other honorable mentions which I won’t mention. Drink and be merry on this 3rd annual IPA day!!!

@slim Sweetwater is pretty bad when compared to almost any other micro.

Also, seems strange to have Boston Beer on there. They are not what I would consider a micro when they have more than 500mm in revenue per year.

Although IPA Day has passed, don’t forget Marietta’s Red Hare Brewing Co and their Gangway IPA. redharebrewing.com

The maker of Sam Adams is on this list.

I think that says everything about its credibility.
