New 5&10 Athens location open
On July 10, chef Hugh Acheson’s 5&10 moved into its new, fancier home in a historic house on South Milledge Avenue in Athens. The restaurant is offering light lunch, dinner and brunch in a remodeled space that features three dining rooms, a bar and a coffee counter.
Meanwhile, Acheson revealed to the Athens Banner-Herald that he has big plans for the original 5&10 location on South Lumpkin Street. Look for a locally inspired Mexican spot, tentatively called Cinco y Diez, with former Farm 255 chef Whitney Otawka in the kitchen.

Chef Hector Santiago at Abattoir
Former “Top Chef” contestant Hector Santiago is the new executive chef at Abattoir, the meaty restaurant from Bacchanalia chefs/owners Anne Quatrano and Clifford Harrison.
Santiago was the chef/owner of a trio of popular Poncey-Highland Latin concepts, Pura Vida, Super Pan Latino, and El Burro Pollo, which closed in 2012, when the lease expired on the space. He said he’ll be making changes to the Abattoir menu in the next few weeks.
