Garrison’s, Joe’s on Juniper, and more file for Chapter 11

BAKERY_x007E_1The companies behind 5 Atlanta restaurant chains filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection last week, the Atlanta Business Chronicle reports.

The entities that control Joe’s on Juniper, Einstein’s, Garrison’s Broiler & Tap, Sugar Shack, and Metrotainment Bakery filed for Chapter 11 on June 13th in order to reorganize the companies. This comes in the wake of a judgment ordering the companies to repay over $2.1 million to Miller Capital Ventures for defaulted loan payments, accrued interest, late charges, and attorney’s fees. The principal amount at issue in the suit was a $1.45 million loan, $73,279.38 in late fees, accrued pre-judgment interest of $487,955.56, and $132,000 in attorney’s fees.

The four companies are Political Concepts, LLC, (DBA Joe’s on Juniper), Peach State Restaurants, LLC (DBA Einstein’s), Vinings Dining (DBA Garrison’s Broiler & Tap), and Mystical Pizza, LLC (DBA Metrotainment Bakery and Sugar Shack.)

Behind all of these companies are managing member, restaurateur, and CEO Jeffery Landau. Landau is also the founder of Hudson Grille and Cowtippers, but neither of those restaurants are part of the chapter 11 filing.

Currently, there are no plans to close any of the restaurants included in the filing.

A copy of the final judgment for the lawsuit can be found here.

A loss for the Classic City. Always good cooking and fine service. Good luck to the excellent staff.

Five restaurant chains? Huh? Isn’t Garrison’s the only one with more than one location? And this doesn’t mean closings. It’s a reorganization.

When will Atlanta area have a restaurant that will cook a fried oyster Lousianna style with cornmeal rather than flour or flour/meal combo? Flour holds too much grease. My most recent try was Hugo’s in Roswell, same thing! I give up….
