Getting in one last meal at Dante’s Down The Hatch

Dantes1-240x300As many of you know, Atlanta’s long-standing destination for all things pirates and fondue, Dante’s Down The Hatch, is closing its doors on July 30th. The space will be cleared to make way for an apartment tower.

After being in business for over 43 years, Dante’s has accumulated a large and diverse crowd of loyal Atlanta fans. Mark Davis over at AJC.com recently joined one of the groups gathering at Dante’s to say their final farewells.

Check out the full story at AJC.com here.

With a little over a month and a half to go, the window to get one more night at Dante’s is closing. Do you plan to revisit Dante’s one last time?

Nope – and if there were some way to erase the first and only time I went there, I’d do it.

Went there once. There is only so much fondue one can ingest in making a meal. An interesting place as far as decor and style, but that just doesn’t sustain a restaurant. Reality came knocking. Hope they got some good money for the site (if they owned it).

He owned the site, if I recall correctly from when the story first broke. Part of the reason for closing, maybe a big part, was that the real estate taxes were becoming a huge burden on his cash flow. Another case of the land being worth far more than the business/house/building located thereon.
