The Cooking Channel’s Gerry Garvin features Atlanta restaurants and recipes this month on his show “Road Trip with G. Garvin.” The program takes him on the road to explore the flavors of the South.

But Garvin, an Atlanta resident, doesn’t have to travel far for the upcoming episodes featuring Atlanta and the “Best of Georgia.”

Atlanta gave chef and cookbook author G. Garvin his start in the food industry with jobs at The Old Vinings Inn, the Ritz-Carlton and Veni Vidi Vici.

In his quest to find the best Southern food on the show, Garvin visits JCT.Kitchen for fried chicken and a sweet tea cocktail, Piece of Cake for a slice of red velvet and Local Three for shrimp and grits. The Atlanta episode airs tonight at 9 p.m.

Garvin will stay in Atlanta for one more week as he highlights his favorite Southern food in Georgia for the May 14 episode. Look for appearances by Yeah! Burger’s bison burger, Brick Store Pub’s fish and chips and The Fickle Pickle’s Cajun-fried pickles.

The recipes for each of the dishes featured can be found on the show’s website.

Lived in Atlanta my entire life and the restaurants that were chosen are not very good for what Atlanta has to offer. I will not tune in.

G. Garvin is a fantastic chef. I’ll certainly tune in, as I’m sure many others will.

I love G. Garvin’s recipes. His style and taste in food is very similar to mine, I always enjoy watching him on tv. Keep up the good work G. and i’ll be watching.

The Cake @ Piece Of Cake is Dry, over priced and not good, I have never had a moist piece of cake from there.
I heard when they first opened it was good, now they dont care.
