Hawktoberfest, Saturday beer, and Sunday wine

Hawktoberfest

hawksThe Atlanta Hawks are hosting a craft beer night with eight Atlanta-area craft breweries at the March 30 game vs. the Orlando Magic. A dedicated “festival-like” space inside Philips Arena will feature beer, German food and a live band.

Atlanta craft brewers, including reps from Monday Night, Jailhouse, Red Brick, Blue Tarp, Terrapin, Sweetwater, O’Dempsey’s and Wild Heaven, will mix and mingle with guests at half-time at Taco Mac.

To gain access to Hawktoberfest, purchase a ticket to the game @ hawks.com, and go to the arena to grab a Hawktoberfest passport for $16, which includes tastings and a Hawks-branded stein.

Saturday Beer

On Saturday, March 23, LivingSocial’s Hoppin’ BeerFest  is back in Atlanta for the second year, with craft breweries, wineries, local food trucks and live music. College basketball fans can catch March Madness in a lounge fitted with five flat screen TVs. Tickets: LivingSocial.com/events.

Sunday wine

On Sunday, March 24, Holeman & Finch Public House in Atlanta hosts A Showcase of Wines from Oregon’s Bethel Heights Vineyard featuring viticulturist Mimi Casteel. $50 includes six wines, complimentary hors d’oeuvres, and a Bethel Heights zine. Purchase tickets online here.

On Sunday, April 7, Vino Venue in Dunwoody presents the 2013 Georgia Wine Celebration, where guests can enjoy tastes from Georgia’s top wineries, and samples from Georgia’s farmstead producers. $30 online or at Vino Venue or $40 the day of the event, if available: http://vino-venue.com.

It’s fun to celebrate big events like this but we deserve the right to put our safety FIRST and choose marijuana instead of alcohol. Marijuana has repeatedly been proven to NOT cause cancer, heart disease, brain damage, liver disease, emphysema, or any other significant health issue, and its addiction potential is about on par with coffee. Our legislators in Georgia need to END the marijuana prohibition and give stores the right to sell legally-grown marijuana to adults at a price low enough to prevent illegal competition.
