James Beard Restaurant Committee members have been visiting Atlanta and tweeting up a storm.
Here’s a sample of what these restaurant critics and food writers, who seem to have been everywhere from OK Cafe to Octopus Bar, are saying about dining (and drinking) in Atlanta:
Rick Nelson @ricknelsonstrib, Minneapolis Star Tribune: Breakfast at the OK Cafe in Atlanta. If it’s good enough for Harper Lee, it’s good enough for me.
Tom Sietsema @tomsietsema, Washington Post: Best overall meal in my tour of Atlanta so far: @Cakes_and_Ale in Decatur. Awesome service/drinks/lamb w/minted yogurt.
Alison Cook @alisoncook, Houston Chronicle: One of my favorite things about Atlanta is pimento cheese everywhere I go. Here @ Table 1280 @Woodruff arts complex.
Kate Krader @kkrader, Food & Wine: This charred cod collar with tapenade rocks @KRSteakbar.
Jennifer Cole @jennifervcole, Southern Living: Best way to recover from a food hangover? Hair of the dog: Pimiento cheese w bacon jam at @ESSouth.

I could see them visiting OK Cafe for some “down home” food. It isn’t gourmet by a long shot but for what it is, it is good. But Table 1280 lost its luster long ago. Last time I stopped by there, they only offered a 1-choice pre-fixe “menu” that looked dreadful. The dining room was empty and this was before a show at the Alliance. I don’t know how it stays open.
