Toothpaste, anyone?

IMG_6387I’m pretty particular about most highly flavorful things, but toothpaste isn’t one of them.

For as long as I can remember, Crest has been the default brand in our house. It was the flavor, the only flavor, the toothpaste flavor. Then, one day last month, a couple of tubes of Aquafresh bought on sale appeared and pushed the Crest aside. The flavor seemed so sharp and aggressively mouthwash-medicinal the first morning I tried it, but after a couple of day it became the default flavor of toothpaste in my mind.

Now, we’ve just gone back to Crest, and it tastes so sweet in comparison! That, and it has an almost clove-like spice. Does anyone else notice this, or am I crazy?

I don’t care. Costco has a Kirkland brand that isn’t bad..and you get a LOT. :)

I love the AquaFresh! It’s the only one I’ll use now. I use that and then I don’t have to take the mouthwash that burns as it seems to do the job of both! Crest is way too mild for me. Lol!

I am also a big fan of the Costco,s Kirkland brand toothpaste. Works great, low cast and not too sweet.

Toothpaste is “more” than food all right.

I will go with regular Colgate always.

Try some European toothpastes, like Marvis Cinnamon, Ginger Mint or Amarelli Licorice for some different toothpaste flavors.

Whatever’s on sale…plain baking soda and water in a pinch…

Sensodyne is the dark horse here. I’ve gotten improved comments from my dentist since I used it (about 1 year).

I tend to agree with Bhorsoft – I was recently on a trip and grabbed a sample tube of Marvis Classic Strong Mint. It was level of amazing – miles beyond Crest and Aquafresh – think King of Pops compared to Pop Ice. I only wish I knew where I could find some locally

Seems like around ten or so years ago, aquafresh had their same old formula that they’d always had (I remember consumer reports saying that the old formula had almost no flouride), and also a new ’super fresh’ formula.

I think that now they may only make the super fresh kind, but I’m not sure. All I know is that the super fresh gives me chapped lips, something in it is just a bit too strong and makes them chapped and itchy. I’ve had similar problems with other toothpastes. Now I use a dab of regular Crest and all seems ok.

Highly recommend Himalaya Neem & Pomegranate toothpaste available @Vitamin Shoppe. True story – I had my first cavity (I’m 51 years old) six months ago. After using this toothpaste, the cavity is no longer there. My dentist had side by side x-rays of then and now and his expression was priceless.

I used to be a devoted Tom’s of Maine user, and still like it. I can’t stand sweet toothpaste and Tom’s (and the Trader Joe’s knockoff) is very minty and not sweet. However, I picked up some of the Kirkland toothpaste recently and I like it just as much – it’s minty and not sweet. And a lot cheaper than Tom’s.

For me, something I spit out doesn’t count as food. Unless I’m at the Cheesecake Factory.

You used to be able to get Marvis at Anthropology, not sure if they still offer it, however.
