Originally it was friends, family and chefs from Atlanta and beyond coming together on Feb. 26 in support of Fox Bros Bar-B-Q head chef Charlotte Nelson, who was diagnosed with stage four inflammatory breast cancer in 2012.

Sadly, Nelson died unexpectedly on Saturday. Now the event at Sweetwater Brewing Co., dubbed “Charlotte’s Web,” will be a tribute to Nelson’s courage and a benefit for the The Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

Nelson worked with many of Atlanta’s chefs at restaurants including Atmosphere, Taurus and Canoe and collaborated with Gary Mennie to help open Livingston Restaurant. She joined Fox Bros. in 2009, and became head chef in late 2011.

“Charlotte’s love for what she does shows in her food; there was no question that she is who we wanted leading our kitchen,” Jonathan Fox said in an earlier press release about Charlotte’s Web.

Fox Bros. Bar-B-Q and Friends Present “Charlotte’s Web…Cancer Touches Us All” at SweetWater Brewing Co., $100, includes samples from 16 chefs, hors d’oeuvres, cocktails, live music and a silent auction. 6-10 p.m. Feb. 26, www.supportcharlottesweb.com.

My deepest condolences to Charlotte’s friends and family. I sure love the BBQ at Fox Bros. and I’m sure she was a big reason for the quality of food there.

While it is easy to remember the wonderful times we have with family and friends over a nice meal it is easy to forget the folks that work hard to make that possible. I have never met Ms. Nelson, but have many wonderful memories of eating at Fox Brothers with family and friends and I have no doubt she contributed to those positive experience. My condolences to all her family and friends.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Fox Bros. BBQ family (employees, friends and family of Ms. Nelson). Never had the pleasure of meeting her either but I can only imagine how she will be missed.

So many people volunteering their time to raise money for such a great person now have the chance to help so many people by supporting this charity. Maybe the research financed by our donations in her memory will save many lives in the near future. May Charlotte be remembered by those she has helped and those she continues to help.

Sorry to hear this. Best wishes for her family and friends.

Fox has had some bad luck recently. First a huge tree falls on the restaurant, then they have to get permits from the COA- it has taken almost one year (like the COA wants to drive away successful businesses), and now this!

That’s way to young to pass away . RIP . I enjoy Fox Bros a lot especially their brisket .

I was curious though . Would she have been considered a chef or a pit master or both ? Thanks .
