Buckhead’s W Hotel will soon have a new gastropub, Cook Hall, to replace Market. Renovations begin next month to create what a press release calls “a place where chefs would dream of gathering.”
The beverage program will be the handiwork of 2011 James Beard award winner Belinda Chang, whose resume includes time at New York’s Monkey Bar and The Modern, as well as Charlie Trotter’s of Chicago. Cook Hall will serve boutique wines and a daily menu of handcrafted cocktails.
Chang has also designed the Cook Hall Cocktail Kit, a signature item for the beverage program. The kit will serve 2-10 guests and will include a spirit of choice with tinctures and mixers for custom cocktails made tableside. Recipe included.
Cook Hall, a concept conceived by Culinary Concepts Hospitality Group, will serve global gastropub fare under the direction of chef David Gross. Think small plates, charcuterie, tacos, flatbreads and sandwiches.
Local design firm Blackdog Studio will redesign Market’s interior, incorporating “found objects” into the design, as well as a new 18-seat bar.

- Nava, Buckhead Life Restaurant Group’s southwestern-themed spot, recently closed its doors. Buckhead Life also closed Bluepointe last November but plans to open Pano’s, a nod to the former Pano’s and Paul’s, on the main level of 103 West event facility. 3060 Peachtree Road N.W., Buckhead.
- Nava’s prime location won’t sit empty for long, as the space has already been snapped up by chef and restauranteur Ford Fry. Fry also has ownership in JCT.Kitchen, No. 246 and The Optimist. His newest restaurant will serve wood-roasted meats, fish and fowl. The restaurant will serve both lunch and dinner, with lunch entrees incorporating wood-roasted products into lighter sandwiches and salads.
F & B now open
- Owners Fabrice Vergez and Cindy Brown of the former French American Brasserie (F.A.B.) returned to their roots in Buckhead with the opening of F & B, a new concept in the Ritz-Carlton Residences. The French American Brasserie began its life as Brasserie Le Coze at Lenox Square Mall but relocated to a downtown spot with the new name F.A.B. when Neiman Marcus expanded in 2006. Last December, F.A.B. closed, a few months after the announcement was made about the new concept. Table 1280 closes temporarily
- Table 1280 at the Woodruff Arts Center closed after brunch this past Sunday. Manager Will Sprewell indicated that the restaurant will not close permanently. He said, “As you know, the majority of our business comes during symphony and theater season. During the next two weeks, we will be closing down and revamping.” According to Sprewell, the restaurant will reopen for dinner when the season resumes, but the exact date and lunch service are both “up in the air.”
Busy Bee Cafe to open new multi-unit concept
- Tracy Gates, owner of Busy Bee Cafe, is a busy bee herself with a new multi-unit concept in the works. The new restaurant will also serve soul food favorites including Busy Bee’s famous fried chicken and ox tails.
Taqueria del Sol expands to five new markets
- Taqueria del Sol has plans to enter five new markets across the country. Contracts for multiple units have been signed in Philadelphia, Orlando and Cary, North Carolina, near Research Triangle.
Fox Bros. Rib Joint to find an alternate location
- Although owners were originally eyeing the former Maddy’s location, Fox Bros. Rib Joint is now on the hunt for an alternate space. Buckhead locations are being considered, but no decisions have been finalized.
Swit Bakery & Cafe changing name and concept
- West Midtown’s Swit Bakery & Cafe, which opened last spring, will soon be changing both its name and concept. It will convert from a bakery to a bistro and bar.
Buttermilk Kitchen opens this fall
- Suzanne Vizethann’s new breakfast-centric spot, Buttermilk Kitchen, is on track to open this fall in either October or November.
Fig Jam gets new chef, new location
- Fig Jam Kitchen & Bar is making changes by naming Andy Thomas as the new executive chef. It will also make a move to a smaller, more casual 2000 square foot space at 1010 Peachtree.
5 Napkin Burger closed
- What Now Atlanta recently reported that 5 Napkin Burger in Midtown closed. The Atlanta location’s website has been taken down and its name removed from the national listing on the the 5 Napkin Burger website.
Del Frisco’s Grille opening this fall, now hiring
- Del Frisco’s Grille, serving steak, seafood and comfort cuisine, will open a location in Atlanta this fall. The restaurant is hosting a job fair 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. on Aug. 18 for a range of positions. 3525 Piedmont Rd. N.E., 7 Piedmont Center, Suite 300.
Share Our Strength’s Annual Give Me Five Dinner this Sunday
- Share Our Strength, an organization devoted to ending childhood hunger, will host its sixth annual Give Me Five Dinner this Sunday. Six chefs, including Pano Karatassos, Kevin Gillespie and Heather Hurlbert, will serve five courses with wine pairings by local sommeliers.
