A few weeks ago, Jenny reported on the expansion plans of the popular Indian restaurant Bhojanic into Buckhead. Well, they aren’t the only local restaurants eyeballing new locations. Here are a few successful Atlanta favorites that will be cropping up across town, and beyond…
Community Q heads to the Westside
The popular Decatur barbecue spot will soon take over the old Burger Joe’s location on Marietta St. in West Midtown. Owner Dave Roberts has confirmed that the new location is currently slated to open in late June. Diners can expect the same ‘que (and almost more importantly, the same mac and cheese) that made the Decatur shop so popular to appear at the new location.
West Egg Café heads to the Eastside
The perpetually crowded West Egg Café, the popular brunch/breakfast spot in West Midtown, announced plans to open new location later this Fall near Emory University. The new location is being opened by West Egg owners Ben and Jennifer Johnson, but the pair doesn’t plan to open West Egg clone. The new concept will still focus on breakfast/brunch, but expect a different menu than the flagship Westside location.
Victory Sandwich Bar to open in Decatur
Inman Park’s popular sandwich spot, Victory Sandwich Bar, is moving into Decatur. Known for their small, creative sandwiches and delicious alcoholic slushies announced via the contact page of their website that a new location will soon arrive in Decatur. They will be moving into 340 Church Street, the old Karma Boutique/Johnny’s Pizza building. No word yet on when the new location will open, but it is in the works.
Tacqueria del Sol to open three locations in Philly
Eater Philadelphia reports that local Atlanta taco purveyors, Taqueria del Sol are finally expanding beyond Georgia. Franchisee Christopher Blythe confirmed that Philly should expect three new TdS locations by the end of the year.

I do enjoy Community Q’s bbq, but I’ve never seen anything that special about their mac & cheese. It isn’t bad, but it isn’t that memorable, either.
Hopefully the TdS attitude from their Decatur shop won’t be transported to Philly.

You forgot Camelli’s Pizza opening this month in Little 5 Points! How close will the new West Egg be to Rise’n'Dine by Emory?

Shout out to anyone going to Savannah soon. Ate at Johnny Harris’s, in business since the 20’s…….Unreal good. I had the BBQ and my wife had the broiled seafood platter. Really really good….Old school…….

Is this a sign of a turnaround in the economy? So many restaurants are struggling.

Philadelphians can ooh and ahh over cheeseteak tacos at Taqueria del Sol the way Atlantans do over barbecue tacos. None of that for me, thanks.

lorenzo: if you look closely, most restaurants are hiring – yeah burger, doc cheys come to mind.
I think I saw that camelli’s had a sign up too.
Many others are hiring as well.
So, um, struggling? Many probably are, but a lot of them are hiring.

Here is what the “Now Hiring” signs mean…A lot of out of work professionals have tried to re-enter the workforce in the resaurant industry and have failed because they underestimated the difficulty of doing it right!
It must have looked pretty easy when you were the customer right?

So will they be hiring for surlyorder takers and rule enforcers (aka Taco Nazi’s) at the Philly TdS’s? Thats the ONLY way anyone will get a true TdS experience…. food is great but I tire of the attitude….

And now there’s a sign up for Fox Bros. Rib Joint in the former Maddy’s/Old Hickory House store on Scott Boulevard near North Decatur Road.

Bigo, I phoned Harold’s to confirm. Their number is disconnected. This is a real shame if true.
